I had a theology teacher once tell me “what draws you in is what keeps you there”. If it is not the truth of God’s word bringing them in, it will not be what keeps them there.
This is one of those nice-sounding quotes that also happens to be false. Despite the amount of effort that Paul spent teaching the truth to many ppl, a lot of them still fell away(Acts 20:17-30, 2 Cor. 11:3-15, Col. 2:18-19, Gal. 1:6-7, 1 Jhn 2:19) . _The love of the truth_ is what keeps someone in God's Church. Christ's problem with the Laodiceans is that they have no love for the truth. That is how they fall away(2 Thess. 2:10).
My grandparents are missionaries, and my grandfather is a pastor. I remember asking my grandmother why she didn't have a big engagement/wedding ring like everyone else, she wore a simple band. Her answer was that she worked with the church and wanted to stay humble. Also, working in other countries, she didn't want to come off a certain way. I thought that was so respectable. She shines with who she is, not what she wears.
I met a pastor’s wife and she said she was wanting her husband to upgrade her wedding ring another carat. 😳 One of the first of many red flags. We left that church.
It leaves "you" a wierd feeling, but maybe not everyone. Maybe it's the lense you're looking at them through. Have you considered the things that you like or enjoy, and if you had the money to buy something that you like, would you be tempted and how do you know how you'd respond and if you'd buy it or not??? Do unto others that you want others to do to you. We get so caught up in everyone and everything around us forgetting they are human beings with flesh and desires too! Have you thought about praying for them if you think they're wrong rather than having a public "Christian" gossip fest. Quit talking about them, and pray for them instead!!!
13:10 is so true. I lost my son about a week after he was born. I was really sold into the prosperity message. So i didnt understand why after all my prayers and service i lost my first child, son, after three years of trying to concieve him. The church i worshipped at made me feel like I was doing something wrong. So i left the faith completely for 5 years. I just returned back last november. I realise now that we must be with God irrespective of what happens to us and not just because of what he will give or bless us with. He is God no matter what we do.
Welcome back to the family! Was just reading 2 Timothy yesterday and was reminded that everyone who wants to live a good life in Christ Jesus WILL BE persecuted! Keep the faith. Run the race. Fight the good fight so that we may receive that crown on the day we are with Christ Jesus our Lord 💛
So sorry for your loss. 🫂 God is always here, waiting for us to return and hold us. There is a reason behind all of our losses, as hard as they are to bear. But God IS faithful to us and works in mysterious ways. 🕊️
The same is true when ppl start treating pastors like John MacArthur and Charles Stanley as celebrities. The common theme i find from ppl who follow them is that they direct ppl toward something those men say instead of the Bible.
Our pastor literally said this past Sunday that he purposely dresses “drab” so as to not distract from the sermon. He literally wears the same 3-4 outfits: jeans, brown shoes, and an untucked dark colored button down shirt. In the winter he wears a sweater sometimes 😂 Very thankful for his taking his role as pastor seriously in every aspect, even something as benign as what he wears.
@@Romans08.31True. I must admit that I’ve stayed away from church for seasons in life because I didn’t have anything to wear and the “dress code” in our church is like what you see at a fashion show. It’s a shame that the modern Christian church in North America has become all about looking good instead of being holy. It’s not just about the clothes either, the entire modern protestant church in North America lacks holiness and humility in my opinion.
@@thefuturista7836 that’s the way Jehova Witnesses shine with great cloths and jewelry. And been brainwashed by the Holy ones in the Tower been the only ones that have the Spirit!
This is one of the many, many reasons I'm so thankful for pastor David Rosales of Calvary Chapel Chino Valley. He does not try to put on a show, become famous, or be an entertainer. He just teaches what God's word says.
My husband is a lead Calvary Pastor and I can say, many of the Pastors within CC have that heart like David R! Humbled, pursuing the truth of God’s Word and making only JESUS known!!
I went to an Elevation service this morning for the first time. Everyone was so welcoming and excited I was there. The music felt like a concert and it was a lot of fun. There is so much crowd participation and everyone was engaged. I am not surprised that so many folks really enjoy going. I am Catholic, but I felt like it was exciting and fun going there. The ambiance and aesthetic is so comforting and the music is really upbeat. From that, I didn’t even notice The pastor’s clothing, shoes, or if any of it was designer. His message was one of trusting in God in all times because the concept of time doesn’t limit what God can do in your life. For me, I don’t care what he wears. A $900 belt? Cool. A $5,000 pair of sneakers? Neat. Doesn’t mean anything. If you have the $$, spend it on what you like. No sense in struggling or putting up with junky sneakers when your salary is six figures. Everyone loves to judge those who are wealthy and criticize how they spend their money. It is rooted in jealousy and that leads to bitterness. Nobody will ever be enough to satisfy everyone. If the pastor came out wearing Walmart shoes and a discount store suit, people would judge him for making the church look cheap.
I attended Elevation for five years. I lead small groups. Volunteered in almost every area. Did a lot of service projects and was at the church multiple nights a week every week. I don’t go there anymore but I can tell you I think one of the main reasons that Pastor steven got into the sneaker thing was because Elevation has a massive push for diversity and woke Ness. I think initially it was to relate to the young black community and attract more of them. He is always trying to seem like more relatable to the black community. Almost in a very over-the-top way. Also morally he is incredibly faithful to his wife and did not even kiss her until his wedding. Also, he’s never had a drop of alcohol in his entire life because his dad was an alcoholic. I think this is his one thing that he splurges on. I go to a church now, which is a much better fit for me. But it was nice to go to a church where you had faith in the pastor that he was not going to make a major moral misstep related to cheating or alcohol. I trust him completely in those ways. That is my honest assessment from being up very close to the church
Thank you for your mature response. This type of forum is what held me back from seeking God for 14 years. I don't have time to chronicle the beautiful, yet crazy journey of my faith from a disillusioned teen pastor's daughter to a mom who raised 3 Godly children... But I think many here would say, "God wouldn't send you THERE"... He doesn't do things THAT way... Well. That is what I once thought. Relax people. I'm nearly 60, and back in an "acceptabe" church, and my go-to station is Moody Radio... but my "God ordained journey" was much more colorful ❤ (He healed me among those who BELIEVED I could actually be healed-- GOD love 'em all...)
Thank you for bringing out Pastor Steven’s strengths, Laura… we also attended when we lived in NC and both served at Elevation. I appreciate Steven and Holli and trust them and their message…🙏🙌🏼
Thank you for being honest and real about Ps Steven Furtick. Oftentimes, all I see is negative criticisms about him from people who has never attended or work at his church. So it was nice to see a honest assessment from someone who've actually served at Elevation.
His own morality is not the main issue. It is false teaching leading many to Hell. Too many cannit see this truth and it is because they are spiritually blinded, know no better or are weak believers who were groomed in false churches
Bring brought up in a non Christian family - I went to church with whoever could take me - then I married military and went to different ones. I try not to judge on their looks and clothes but in the message and if it lines up with the word of God. I do feel like different churches are called for different ministries and different people. Right now we are at Life church - I feel honored to be part of a church getting the Word of God out by an app to anyone for free - helping any church have any tech they create for free. God can move in different ways.
I think many of these preacher's are life coaches rather than men who preach Gods Word. We moved from a church 7 yrs ago because the pastor was always bringing the subject back to himself So prideful Our church now is about Jesus all the time
This was a very interesting conversation, I definitely learned a lot from it. I’m grateful my pastor doesn’t wear the most expensive or flashy clothing, he just wears a nice and decent black suit.
My husband is an LCMS Lutheran pastor. On Sunday mornings, he wears the alb he has owned since he was ordained 18 years ago. His shoes are Croft and Barrow from Kohls.
The irony is that my father, five uncles, and grandpa were preachers. They wore nice looking, formal suits they bought on discount or at used clothing stores. Much nicer looking than the expensive yet ugly, casual hipster gear. But they earned middle class incomes and were known locally. They preached at medium sized churches of between 100-150 members. Not rockstar celebrities of "megachurches."
When you see them in suits, see the Easter dresses, the answer always is “because Jesus deserves the best”. They do it in reverence as a way of honoring God. Respectable look, respectful price. These other ‘pastors’ only honor themselves when they wear expensive items of jewelry or shoes. They are not preaching reverence in to God in their bodies but greed and sensuality.
The more this all becomes issues for other religious faiths it makes me realize the sanctity of the priest and the ways they are presented to us and just the importance of their marriage to the church in general.
I mentioned missionary Hudson Taylor yesterday in my comments, and a certain part of his early Christian life has come to my mind pertaining to today's "Relatable" subject. This quote from "Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret" has stayed with me ever since I first read it: "Hudson's employer, Dr. Hardy, paid him a salary adequate for covering his personal expenses. The young assistant gave 10% of his income to the work of God, and devoted his own time on Sunday evenings to evangelistic work in the poorest part of town. And the more exposed he became to the needs of the poor he met, the more seriously he began to think about his own comfortable lifestyle. If he spent less on himself, would he find even greater joy in being able to give more to others? Hudson decided to live out an experiment to try to answer that question." (Spoiler alert: he was very pleased with the results.)
This is EXACTLY what Pastors must do. If they placed a portion of their income towards a cash fund to help people in need for God Glory that Pastor is doing it right.
@@amandastjohn4735 many Christians do . But I was referring to the Pastors as examples. I honestly tell people not to idolize or worship the Pastor. He’s a teacher, but no more, if I didn’t see a good example of a Christian I’d leave.
1 Peter 3:3-4 (ESV): 3 Do not let your adorning be external-the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear- 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.
I totally agree about pointing all to the glory of the Lord! The false prosperity gospel destroyed my marriage. It is filled with groupies and if you aren't wealthy and healed you don't have faith!😢
My Wife left without a word while following the Sheets brothers daily, in their prayer group. Praising other idols, death raiser and phony healers on Facebook since then. She finalized the divorce on Zoom recently. She was too gutless to meet and counsel in person. Typical self loving charismatic christian. I am praying for her.
Ben Kirby is spot on watching these designer preachers leaves a very weird feeling I would really have to stretch my imagination in order to see them as anything other than con men
Con Men is what they ARE; but they also have a congregation that LOVE to help them CON themselves into a LUXURY LIFESTYLE. Their Congregation will NEVER give money to a Single Mother with a Disabled Child who has no place to live; nor help her find a place to live, or Even give that Single Mother who is also a Christian a Place to Live with her child in their Big empty fancy homes. But they will Gladly Continue to SUPPORT the CON ARTIST PASTORS.
My church has been going through 1st Timothy for the past few weeks. There are incredibly strict rules that God laid out if you are to be a pastor or deacon.
This type of commentary is very important for new Christians. It’s really really easy to be misled when you are born again and searching for your church. Thanks!
I don’t know any of the people shown… I just think Jesus and the Gospel should always be center stage, in the spotlight, front and center. I cannot speak for others but for me, I used to feel value in the brands I wore and it gave me some sort of validation, when I turned to Christ, that completely disappeared because my self worth and value is all in Christ, in loving and trusting Him, in faith. I want His approval, not the world. Again, this is not to say others don’t feel the same way, it is just part of the huge shift I personally experienced and am experiencing as Christ continues to make me a new creature in Him and continues to soften my heart and open my eyes. Love you guys! God bless and keep you. 🤍🙏🏻🤍
This was such a great conversation and a relevant one at that. I appreciated the insights shared and agree with so much of it. I just can’t imagine the great preacher, Jesus, wearing expensive sandals and designer robes as he’s teaching the people and his disciples about the kingdom of Heaven. His life was one of surrender and submission to the Father through and through, and far from drawing attention to himself through outward accoutrements.
I really liked Ben Kirby, well-spoken and I very much appreciated his (and your) views and the discussion to flesh out what seems so disingenuous and concerning about “pastors” who seemingly want more attention for themselves than the glory and limelight that belongs to God alone. Thank you for this important conversation to open the eyes of some who are blinded and may have been swept up in this hip church sales job. Everything about Jesus was humble and common so the Truth overflowing from the Spirit out his lips was the star!!⭐️
I was moved in so many areas that Christians have normalized based off my discernment. Now that I’m focused on Biblical study, I’m seeing I was being led correctly and then hearing points made here and through many sermons, it’s great to see others pointing these things out.
I also attend Elevation Church and am as involved with so much of what you mentioned. I'ts hard to find such a man of faith. Living it out in daily life. He is a solid prayer warrior. True to Jesus. He simply 'pastors' different. He has ADHD and is so passionate about getting us to 'hear' the Scriptures. He has ideas and stories that drive Scripture home. Pastor Steven's first church attendance was as a youngster. He didn't care what color the people were. He just wanted to sing and be with others who love Jesus. He was the only white guy regardless of day. Someone invited him and he never looked back. The pastor of that church became a 'dad' figure as well as a mentor. He was encouraged to become a Bible teacher for a group similar to Sunday school. I can testify that this man has insecurities... how? ... He tells our congregation truthful intimate details of his struggles a I'm so grateful that he does. NEVER is self inflated. Sadly, it's the opposite. His childhood with an alcoholic father was disturbing. Trying to protect his mom was his place he felt. When something did happen, he considered himself a failure. That shines through now and then but we all have our 'thing'. If you were up there after hearing criticism about yourself... would it be easy to stay focused and come back each Sunday?? He is a man of God. It is just like we are a small church. So my question is if he doesn't wear a suit every day... what should he wear? He's a young 43 yr old and dad of 2 teenage boys, Elijah just left for college last week. Majority of the time he wears sweaters and hoodies, etc that were gifted to him by church members. He absolutely should dress nice and clean. But he is not about his attire. Ever. We all like to look our best. I have attended this church since my children where in Middle School. They are now 22. They are triplets who have very special needs. They welcomed us instead of trying to quiet us. My nonverbal daughter was actually given a lead role in volunteering. Patience and kindness and the love of Jesus are felt in this church the same as the small one I attended as a child. But church basement cookout type feeling. But the main thing is the pastor preaches the word and loves Jesus. This is not a megachurch it's actually the size of a large Auditorium. This is a good man. He teaches God's Word nothing added nothing taken away. He mentioned in Sunday's sermon how people think elevation is a cult and many other ugly names but he doesn't care. Cares about our salvation and seeing what God can do through us.
Furtick is a false teacher. Says his mentor is TD Jake's who is another false teacher. I've heard him preach. First time I ever saw him on the internet, I knew he was either fake or decieved himself.
Thank you for this conversation as someone who is new to Christianity I was sometimes feeling that discouragement and you’re so so right I appreciated this conversation
I'll say the quiet part out loud... It doesn't matter if you're a good steward of money; if the purchase isn't necessary, you're not a good steward! Nowhere ever, is buying 1000$ shoes an example of good stewardship. Again, the question is, is it necessary?
If you’re definition to being a good Stewart of money (even when you have loads of it) is if it’s not NECESSARY it’s being a bad steward. Very untrue and not sure where you’re getting that belief?
@@nicolestanford4955 It's not untrue. The only reason anybody ever buys shoes that cost that much is because they want to show off how much money they can spend. It doesn't make them good stewards. Like the old saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted.
Ummm I def think the preachers in sneakers thing is unwise and a bad message to send to your congregation/the world, but the standard is not “unnecessary”. I mean coffee is unnecessary. But it doesn’t make someone sinful for getting a latte. Let’s not be absurd lol
Necessary might not be the best word, but you get my point. A 5$ coffee isn't necessary, but it's not even comparable to 1000$ shoes. It would be equivalent to buying a coffee for 100$.
You guys would like my dad. Earlier this month he preached his 5000th sermon! That is not a typo, I did say five thousandth! I don't think he's bought a new suit in ten years, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't own a pair of sneakers. He has dress boots and work boots, loafers for church (including a pair that used to be his grandfather's. Completely not kidding, he inherited them and he likes them.) He'll be 80 next year, so he's from a different era, and would definitely raise an eyebrow at this IG account... if he had any clue how to use IG. Not sure he knows what it is, lol.
The so called “Pastors” mentioned in this video are wealth/prosperity, seeker sensitive bums who act like they’re walking down the great cat walk rather than towards the pulpit to exegete the Word of a Holy God!
@@HiThereHeyThere no. Backwater pastor in the middle of nowhereville. He's always gone for the tiny churches, but pastors people from all over the world. Currently taking a hiatus from learning language #14.
This was my favorite podcast that I have listened too!! So good! A seemingly little thing like expensive sneakers is a picture of a huge issue of the heart!!! I hope he goes on the Babylon Bee!!
I was told as a worship leader to “dress nicer”. 😕 I was mostly concerned with being modest so it was confusing to me that anything else mattered. They were looking for a certain level of style and outward presentation that I wasn’t able to meet.
I'm wondering why some "worship" leaders aren't advised to dress more modestly. This shameless pursuit of "with-it-ness" is shallow, distracting and ironically un-attractive, even to the un-churched that they are purportedly trying to attract
People forget that the Word of God is alive - it is the Word that minsters to people and changes their lives NOT the clothes, the music , the building, etc. There is a big difference in having faith in Him and His word versus having faith in all the things even if the things appear good or godly.
Years ago people would refer to wealthier Catholic churches were a "Fur Coat Parish". Today most mega churches are flimsy with the Gospel, and not much more that cat walk for some. Allie, important topic!!
If you are someone that is not well of, struggling to pay bills and you are tithing to your church, how does it look for your pastor to be wearing crazy expensive clothes, driving fancy cars and going on luxurious vacations?!!
Exactly. And do most churches, with or without fancy-dressed pastors, welcome poor people like they are supposed to? "My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?" (James 2:1-5 ESV)
@@marebear09 Of course, but I really appreciate the fact that we have these kinds of things already dealt with and spoken on by councils and the holy fathers. It’s a lot easier to follow the phronema already laid out and lived by by countless godly men and women. That felt a lot harder to find as a Protestant
Mathew 6 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?” It’s because it’s forming to the worlds standards of what is important.
became your instafan after hearing your critique of tate am suprised by this podcast - not many take on the prosperity cult these "pastors" who pretend that the eye of the needle is a wide gate they have been around for decades now - but most Christians dont attack their position which is a poor sign of the times keep up the good work!
VERY TRUE WHAT YOU BOTH ARE SAYING .I GREW UP WITH PASTORS THAT WERE HUMBLE AND POOR THE FAMOUS ONES SEEM TO HAVE STYLISTS AND IT IS OBVIOUS THERE STUFF IS EXPENSIVE AND THEY LOOK TOO MUCH LIKE THE WORLD!!!
This was such an enjoyable conversation. Well said, respectful, insightful👌👍 And I actually like the advertisments from the sponsers. This podcast is the only time I hear a commercial and look into it after or during the podcast. I appreciate getting informed about companies who share similiar-same values. Thanks Allie👍
So...let me ask a question. And I am poor so I am not asking because I wear designer shoes or clothes. How do we know if people are wearing these clothes because they like them? I like false eyelashes. I discovered them after my husband died two years ago. They have become an excellent tool to keep my tears at bay, particularly when I am talking to others or working. I shop at Goodwill but don't carry a sign that says so. Being a pastor can be a tough road. In my humble opinion, taking care of one personal's appearance or the fact that someone likes loud colors (not all of us like the same thing) should not be used as a measurement of piety, holiness or dedication to God. My son is 15. He is a good Christian child who loves and serves Jesus and has a strong testimony. He's a sneaker head. There are shoes I'd purchased for him if I had had the money. What I have been able to get him are not super expensive buy it has stretched me. Why? I love him. He likes cute sneakers. How does that impact his walk with Christ? I really struggle as I feel that we are trying to judge heart motivations here. I do not ascribe to the prosperity, health and wealth, name it and claim it position. But judging people by what they wear...again, this I struggle with. Love and peace.
Carlee Jean is too expensive for me so I don't think I'll ever get around to purchasing any of that brand, but I appreciate the modest and classy style😬🤷♀️ I also can't afford good ranchers either, but God bless them for providing good meat alternatives to those who can get it lol.😊
Yeah, what Allie Beth calls affordable is still not affordable for some of us. May not cost $600, but over $100 for a pair of jeans is more than I'm willing to spend. Not so relatable after all...
It’s hard to find jeans under $100 unless you go to a thrift store. American eagle, Levi’s, hollister…they’re all expensive. I’ll get a perfectly fine pair of American eagle jeans for $15 at the thrift store. We budget for goodranchers though..worrrrth it
Currently I may not be able to afford Carly Jean either BUT for the output of quality she is providing, the cost will be equal. Unfortunately good quality means a pretty penny sometimes. She may not have the capital to provide lower pricing if it means not gaining her rightful profit or if it means a lower quality of clothing. Fast fashion is just more affordable for some and our hope as Christians is that more Christian businesses can climb to the top and be accessible to all income levels. I hope to purchase something from Carly soon as it seems like really great, high quality basic pieces that I could keep forever.
Emphasis on "sometimes" good quality comes at a pretty penny. Yes, sometimes, but not always. I can get a pair of jeans for under $100 at Maurices and other stores (I havent gotten any of my clothes from thrift stores as of yet), but location may also affect that just like it does most other things. I've been fortunate to get some pretty great quality clothes that have lasted yrs for less than the prices of Carlee Jean. I'm not hating on Carlee nor am I assuming that her prices are high for any malicious greedy intent (I mean she lives in California and from my understanding things tend to be priced pretty high in that particular state). I'm not ignorant to the fact that there are many factors that go into figuring cost of product and such in a business. As I said I appreciate the modest and classy style and even more so that they are a Christian based company, but again, it's not in my budget. I do find similar things for cheaper that are good quality and maybe sadly like most needs/wants that must be purchased, may not be from a Christian based company, but they provide what I'm looking for while also fitting my budget.
I struggle with UA-cam because almost everyone on youtube promote products that aren't within my budget. I've never thought that I was poor. I think my husband makes a good income, it is a little off-putting that youtubers are promoting products that I actually can't afford. If I didn't watch myself, I could feel pretty less than.
"For this is the will of My Father", Jesus said " that EVERYONE that beholds the Son and Believes in Him...may have Eternal Life and I Myself will raise him up on the last day." John 6:40
"Celebrity" pastors have been wearing expensive clothes and shoes for a long time. It just changed from ridiculously overpriced suits to stupidly expensive sneakers. Meanwhile a lot of regular old pastors can barely afford to pay their taxes and their insurance.
I am a 77 year old married great grandma and the expensive clothes and shoes are outrageous!!! A real turn off for me and I'm glad Jesus looks at the heart and not the outward appearance!😐
Being an olde Gen X'r I just wear 40 dollar sketchers which are 10 dollars too much in price IMHO. Can't believe someone would drop 1000 on a pair of kicks
My husband and I practice the discipline of simplicity. But if I find a designer item at a thrift store, I feel like I have to explain, I got it at the Goodwill!!!!😂
I was a member of a church growing up where there were a lot of wealthy people. So as the church grew of course there was a lot of money given by the wealthy members. It was a good thing, but years later when a new pastor/preacher came, his salary was pretty big and so he bought a Jaguar!!! Well, the deacons and elders of the church told him quickly that that wasn’t appropriate. I was so glad to hear that they said that to him and he took it back and got something “normal “ and not flashy.
How many Godly elders and congregations have so faithfully embraced, nurtured and mentored our young fledgling pastors? And praise God those young preachers were able to maintain a tender, teachable spirit. I think that's how it's supposed to work.
The prosperity Gospel exemplifies C.S. Lewis' quote about our desires: "It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea." What are money and possessions compared to selfless love, unshakeable peace, and eternal happiness?
WOW the example with the meat sacrificed to idols example was SPOT ON, Allie!!!!!!!!!!!! Love this episode. I used to really love Mike Todd’s teachings when the church was just starting to gain popularity and my husband and I watched every week for a couple of years and even tithed to Transformation Church for a while and eventually I was really turned off by the expensive clothes and other large wastes of money for example things used for visuals/ props and that really made me feel sad in my heart. There are people within arms reach of all of us that are starving not only for the gospel, but physically, could that money not have gone to better use? 😣 And I understand that pastors don’t all need to live as lower class citizens in regards to pay, and I don’t mind seeing pastors work hard and live well even be kinda “rich” but if I see a pastor going around in a Luxury car like a Lamborghini etc. that really makes me think twice about the way they are stewarding the money of the church.
I am an old lady by any definition. I wouldn't even know if someone were wearing super expensive sneakers. I thought the 50 dollars I spent recently was excessive. But someone could very easily look at my life and possessions and judge me. Our clothes definitely do communicate something.
I’m only 1/3 of the way through the podcast but my perspective also goes back to what these pastors are supporting by purchasing those brands, abortion? Sex trafficking? Transgenderism? Etc. etc. etc.
i think there might be two other concerns to all this: 1) if you portray yourself as successful, wealthy, etc, as a prosperity pastor, it strengthens the deception (ie: "look- i can be what they are if i follow what they say..."...), and 2) it might be one of the reasons why we're seeing some Pastors quit ministry altogether and/or commit suicide: human beings are not "supposed" to be worshipped...the "celebrity" vibe can (and often) adds pressure to their lives that didn't used to be even a consideration (unless you were writing a lot of popular books, etc)...
So, I fully appreciate the commentary on Celebrity, got it! Men and woman of God, are called to not display the trappings of the world. So our pastors and Preachers have a separate judgement, yet they flaunt the goodness of God and fall prey to the tricks of the enemy by being like the world. The Holy Spirit has problems with this hence, the lack of fruit in the body, which is primarily because of the malnourishment in the church. Pastors are called to feed the body with the washing of the water through the word. Where is the good old repentance teaching, It worked for Jesus. Great presentation Allie. I had trouble seeing you through that HUGE drinking fountain,
14:08 You have just made an excellent point for how Catholic priests and monks dress. While the single clothing item is more expensive, they have lots fewer. I think they are allowed to have exactly two garbs, for monks, and exactly two cassocks, for priests, one to wear while the other is washed. And they wear them for years and mend them, until mending is no longer an option.
I agree with lots of what this conversation has offered. I think we have to be careful when we say "especially the pastor" I think we should all strive to love, honor, act with humility but not elevate anyone.
It makes me not tithe. I was up to my eyeballs listening to my priest talk about how the church needed money while he was living in a huge 3 car garage home with all of the bling.
I THROUGHLY enjoyed this podcast!!! Your guest was GREAT!! I shared with my husband, who knew there is this sneaker subculture?!!...I have said for years many of these "teachers/ministers" start out with heart to CHRIST... $$$ & fame come and they are no longer the people they once were in their teaching of the HOLY WORD. 😢...Allie Beth THANK YOU!! and GODS BLESSINGS upon you, your family, your delivery of bringing new life into this world...❤🙏 your Relata "Belle" in the ❤ of MO 🐐🐏🐄🐓
1 John 2:18-19 (ESV): 18 Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.
Would these people on stage be willing to continue in “ministry” if they could only afford basic clothing, a modest house and car, or were likely to go to jail for years for preaching the gospel?
I love Golden Goose sneakers. I DONT buy them for $500 but for more than half on Postmark or other discounted platforms but I love them for look and quality. BUT im not a pastor and just a regular girl, ppl dont look at me or judge me coz I worked to buy them. When a pastor wears these kind of shoes it automatically feels like the congregation bought them for him, coz that's where his paycheck is coming from.
Consider: Pastor's receive gifts from family members, special discounts from stores and/or companies for promotional purposes. Common criticism of pastors, large and/or luxurious homes: consider ministries need to accomodate large groups, ministers, visitors that includes several individuals.
You know what? Stephen Furtick brought me to Jesus. He got me right into service work feeding the homeless after one sermon, lifting me right into doing something I had never done. Personally, I see no issue with a pastor wearing nice clothing. I stand by Elevation Church.
I have spent 40 years within local charismatic, Pentecostal, independent evangelicals, prophetic movements, messianic Christina’s , baptists, and traditional Roman Catholics and even charismatic Catholics. The conclusion is this at 47 years in the Christian faith : 1. 97 % don’t know how to read and research the Scriptures written by hebrews and Jews. 2. The pastors that do know keep their mouth shut to avoid confusion. . 3 Every denomination or independent churches create eventually their own doctrine not following the true facts of the writers 2000 years ago. 4. Pastor manipúlate the masses so they won’t leave and stop giving their ties , which is unbiblical anyway. 5. They say all of them have the Holy Spirit in them and some just live for their own EGO & Glory, and PLEASURES, not attending the sheep , just milking them. They don’t care to ordain a copastor, or train young people to learn about God’s gifting and calling on their life. They have a spirit of control that not even de elders can control. They even lie in order to keep doing their own vision and lifestyle.
@@Goawaypleasenow anyone who tries to obey de commandments is a just person, but the flesh is always present . Our roots came from the Catholic Church and still no one tells us cause many will loose their faith.
Would be interested to hear you talk about Nancy Mace's remarks at the prayer breakfast. Seems like it's dividing Christian conservatives from merely culturally Christian conservatives.
My husband is the pastor of our church. We’ve been in ministry our entire marriage. I can say that I see both sides, but there’s definitely a balance. I do think that pastors and church staff are held to a different standard. They shouldn’t be flashy and distract from what the message is. I can say even if we could afford expensive clothing, we wouldn’t use our money towards that. We purposely wear clothing that the typical person walking through the church doors can relate to. We live in a more rural area, so my husband wears jeans, Tshirt, and sometimes even a ball cap up on stage with his cheap sneakers from Walmart. We want anyone walking in to feel that we aren’t on a pedestal, that we are one church, one body, each part as important as the other. I’ve encountered people that think we should live poorly, and shouldn’t own nice things at all, which I also don’t think is fair. Not many know that the typical everyday pastor has 1 or 2 side jobs to supplement and their spouse works a full time with a side hustle. Then there’s people who are offended that my husband doesn’t dress up enough. They don’t like that he doesn’t wear a suit or whatever they think is appropriate. There’s really no winning lol. I’m glad that ultimately it’s Gods opinion that matters the most and he knows our hearts.
When I was in South Africa the pastor of the church we worked with had a BMW it was an amazing carry, but so expensive. And I found it very distasteful, but he was taking care of us while we were there so I couldn't say anything. It was weird but they were lovely people. He said it was about safety, but I still can't be certain.
Who cares...I'm sorry this talk show has made you start to think badly about someone you liked not because they had a BMW but because of who they were ..nice people.
@@nfcapps no I'm not look up the meaning of troll ...I care that you no longer think well of the "nice people that's all.. this video only ran down people for an hour and selling a book with the same content so I think the term fits them more than me. @@tammyhoushour8070 I'm sure you taught your kids right. They are all pastors with large families that don't use birth control and don't enslave themselves by taking on debt. The wives work and grow similarly strong and biblical children. The love and respect just flows between all their relationships and not one divorce. I will think badly of every pastor who doesn't live a biblical life. Nice cars don't mean non biblical. Nice cars at the expense of helping the people in your flock is sin and pastors who do evil things will get harsher punishments, as God Himself stated in His Word. I'm not sure what things you did in your life that you are now feeling convicted about and are trying to rationalize that feeling away, but you should probably do what God is telling you that you need to do to correct yourself instead of trying to convince other people that that what you did is ok because it's ok when other people do it. I did not say I disliked those people. I said I found their outward property distasteful. They were lovely people and I wasn't there long enough to gauge whether those purchases were creating problems in the flock or not. Go do whatever it is God has obviously been telling you to do for a long time, get yourself right with Him, and be joyful.
I take a stark interpretation of the Bible's financial requirements for the Christian. I'm openminded to an extent, because I'm still figuring things out. But these are the kinds of verses I string together to form my views on the subject of Christian financial responsibility: There's the "Great Commission", where Jesus tells us to evangelize the world (Matt 28:18-20). Then, there's Peter's statement that Christ will not return until everyone who will believe the Gospel and repent does so (2 Pet 3:3-4, 9). Paul reminds us that such salvation can only occur if evangelists are sent (Rom 10:13-15). Then, there's this command by Jesus: "Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys" (Luke 12:33). The early church carried out that command in Acts 2:44-45; 4:32-37. (It is in the "aorist imperative" tense in the Greek text, so it is a command.) Then there's the renouncing of possessions Jesus calls for in Luke 14:33. Anything we retain should be for God's purposes, either directly or indirectly. (Pastor John Gray's $5,600 sneakers are not the shoes of the "gospel of peace" in Eph 6:15.) Jesus later calls on us to spend our money for the express purpose of saving souls (Luke 16:9). His phrase "unrighteous wealth" here is meant to contrast mere money-the currency of this unrighteous, passing world-from the eternal, heavenly victory of saved souls.
I know several ppl w/ ordinary jobs who dress like this. One friend is a barber, his wife a make up designer and almost everything they wear is a luxury designer they dress there baby like this too and he isn’t even one. Meaning this your fashion choices are that your fashion choices salvation doesn’t change that neither does ministry. Long as ppl aren’t misappropriating funds why do we care what designer they wear ?
While I definitely understand the importance of pastors to lead their congregations well, which includes with humility, I don’t know that I agree with every point made. Yes, flagrant displays of wealth and not stewarding finances well, especially the church finances, are issues to point out. But the point that even if the GMC Sierra and the Mercedes (I don’t remember if that’s the one he said, but some luxury car brand) were the same price, you should buy the one that other people don’t associate with being expensive, is kind of preposterous to me. In this way, the critics are placing the same importance, if not greater, on the image and how it looks/perception, than the person who owns the item. If a person looks at someone at a church who has a Mercedes and automatically thinks “wow, they are being too flashy and are clearly not humble, and are either wanting to flash their money around or are not good stewards of their finances” then that person is indeed being judgemental, and has a bitter and contemptuous heart. They don’t know the circumstances. Perhaps the person/husband&wife researched their options thoroughly, though this vehicle was the best option for them for various reasons and liked it, and it’s a few years older model; which would actually be less expensive than the Sierra that is brand new. To assert they shouldn’t go in this direction because of the brand name and your association with the brand name would be quite self-righteous.
I feel like it ultimately comes down to the intention in someone's heart who purchases these items rather than the judgement of those who look upon it. I could have thousands of people look at me in my $300 noise canceling headphones that come away with a thousand different judgements. But ultimately, I bought them not because I want a Beats by Dre brand to flex on people, but because I had ADHD and the noise canceling technology in these ones are wonderful. You know what I mean? If a pastor simply just wants a Mercedes benz car, God knows *why* ... He knows if its to be boastful or if its because the person wanted that car because they like the design. Moreover, I think you've made a good distinction that a generality shouldn't be made about pastors with luxurious items: but its also important we don't insult the intelligence of Christians ability to judge them by their fruits. Like if a pastor has an Instagram and posts pictures with their car in their new drip, that's quite clearly boastful and gluttonous.
We got a Cadillac Escalade when we went to shop a Yukon because it was a better deal for a more comfortable ride. However. It makes me feel some kind of way every time i have to say it i can’t say Escalade i say Cadillac suv bc it feels so extra. Whether it’s warranted or preposterous or not, society’s perception matters. What Allie was saying, i believe the point there was, when you are looked to as a spiritual leader you are held to a much greater standard than the average Joe. If your choice is going to cause envy and bitterness in others - don’t do it. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. I left a mega church where the pastor went in this direction. Lots of flashy belongings, fancy house, then co vid showed me who this guy really was but i should’ve already known it by his fruits, which were rotten. Be in the world, but not of it.
At the end of the day those using their celebrity status for the wrong reasons will have to face God. It’s the world we live in. That’s why is so important to read word.
The main problem it's not the clothes, if those guys started preaching the true gospel and live out the gospel nobody would care about the price tag on their clothes…
This video came up in my feed (I have been blessed by Allie Beth Stuckey, and Allisa Childers have both been a blessing to me!), and lo and behold, what pops up right under it but a quote from one of the "Designer preachers"! Lolol!
I personally met a pastor years ago who claimed to have a silk tie that cost 350 dollars. 350 dollars for a TIE? Are you kidding me? Expensive shoes, ties, 1- 3 thousand dollars suits, worn by those who supposedly represent God and Christian ministry? Christian Himself said that He had no place to lay His head! Such flagrant excess by these " pastors " is an absolute disgrace to the name of Christ!
12 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” 14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
I am so tired of hearing Calvanists etc debunking the Grace preachers and I am 80 years old. This pretty young lady has dyed hair and probably dental treatment. She does not appear as a frumpy religious lady, no.... all of the photos in Internet show her to be very up-to-date and a willing photo-model.. So much for appearance! If you know the bible, you will know that many "chosen men of God" were exceptionally rich - for example Abraham, Mose, David, Solomon, Hiob etc. A quick PS.. Outlet is not so cheap when you are buying designer articles. Ask people like John McArthur, Paul Washer etc, how much they pay for their suits, ties, shoes etc. They also wish to make an impression on their congregations. If you want to buy a BMW like our pastor (I have a mini-cooper with BMW motor) then buy one. Don't be a hypocrite buying a different brand, costing the same, just to avoid negativity. Regards from Switzerland
2 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,
I had a theology teacher once tell me “what draws you in is what keeps you there”.

Kayla that's beautiful. Same with my grandparents. Intrinsic beauty is so much more powerful than anything else, and so much more admirable.

@RACHELHALL6502: Correct.
Yes amen!!! Coming to church shouldn’t be a fashion show if that’s the focus then it’s all wrong
Same! The most fashionable our pastor gets is wearing a white suit on Resurrection Sunday. :)
This in large part is the reason some traditions / denominations stick to wearing vestments.

Pastors getting rich from their congregation are not really pastors. The Bible talks about false teachers making wages of their flock
I'm glad you were entertained, but what do junkie shoes have to do with the price of shoes that are collector items ?
Collector item shoes make a statement of prosperity & success that is possible for those that follow their prosperity gospel.
@@Dn2earth more like a statement of ripping off their congregation. They're heretics.
With so many homeless and hungry people in the world? Can we not choose to live simply? How much lasting joy does a pair of designer shoes bring?
I'm nearly 60, and back in an "acceptabe" church, and my go-to station is Moody Radio... but my "God ordained journey" was much more colorful ❤

Thank you for bringing out Pastor Steven’s strengths, Laura… we also attended when we lived in NC and both served at Elevation. I appreciate Steven and Holli and trust them and their message…🙏🙌🏼
I place my trust in The Most High. I have no trust in man; especially a pastor.
Yyyyyytyytyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy6yy
As a catholic viewer I like that our priests have dress rules. Their vestments show reverence, respect (but also command respect) and dignity
This quote from "Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret" has stayed with me ever since I first read it:
"Hudson's employer, Dr. Hudson decided to live out an experiment to try to answer that question."
(Spoiler alert: he was very pleased with the results.)
This is EXACTLY what Pastors must do. If they placed a portion of their income towards a cash fund to help people in need for God Glory that Pastor is doing it right.
@@Mrs.CGravesThat's what *all* Christians ought to do.

Thank you for this video. I bristle when I see the flashing of wealth and you are so correct, pastors should be humble and sheparding well.

What a lovely guest.
Keeping it real and humble all the way to the end 💜🙏😊
100 percent AGREED ! ❤❤❤
5000! That's amazing. Tbh that's exactly the kind of pastor I think we all need. Faithful for decades, modest, glorifying God. It's just beautiful.
What a beautiful example of a man following Christ! I can read the love and admiration you have in your description. 😍
The so called “Pastors” mentioned in this video are wealth/prosperity, seeker sensitive bums who act like they’re walking down the great cat walk rather than towards the pulpit to exegete the Word of a Holy God!
Is it Jmac?
@@HiThereHeyThere no. Backwater pastor in the middle of nowhereville. He's always gone for the tiny churches, but pastors people from all over the world. Currently taking a hiatus from learning language #14.
He gets my thumbs up! Thank you for speaking the truth.
That wasn't a preacher that was a snake, that was a wolf please expose 😬😬😬
I'm wondering why some "worship" leaders aren't advised to dress more modestly. This shameless pursuit of "with-it-ness" is shallow, distracting and ironically un-attractive, even to the un-churched that they are purportedly trying to attract
@@debrahoffman2128I agree..
@@cedriceric9730I agree. Carl Lentz is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
It's not just mega churches.
Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?"
(James 2:1-5 ESV)
So, true. Also, most people don't understand how the 501c3 works.

@@marebear09 Of course, but I really appreciate the fact that we have these kinds of things already dealt with and spoken on by councils and the holy fathers. Mathew 6 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?” It’s because it’s forming to the worlds standards of what is important.

Great show! I’m having my teenage son, who plans to attend seminary soon, read the book and listen to this (and Ben’s interview with John Cooper).
Such a needed chat!!

I think a lot of these preachers are wolves in sheep’s clothing
Bingo
This is a lovely conversation, very enlightening.
Wow! I really love this conversation!
Lewis' quote about our desires:
"It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea."
What are money and possessions compared to selfless love, unshakeable peace, and eternal happiness?
WOW the example with the meat sacrificed to idols example was SPOT ON, Allie!!!!!!!!!!!! Love this episode. I used to really love Mike Todd’s teachings when the church was just starting to gain popularity and my husband and I watched every week for a couple of years and even tithed to Transformation Church for a while and eventually I was really turned off by the expensive clothes and other large wastes of money for example things used for visuals/ props and that really made me feel sad in my heart. There are people within arms reach of all of us that are starving not only for the gospel, but physically, could that money not have gone to better use? 😣
And I understand that pastors don’t all need to live as lower class citizens in regards to pay, and I don’t mind seeing pastors work hard and live well even be kinda “rich” but if I see a pastor going around in a Luxury car like a Lamborghini etc. that really makes me think twice about the way they are stewarding the money of the church.
Well not many preachers make the kind of money football players make. To me preachers are worth more than football player's
Thank you for covering this! Steve Fur ticks me off 😮
Yes, I’ve been saying pretty much the same thing for years.
It makes me not tithe. I was up to my eyeballs listening to my priest talk about how the church needed money while he was living in a huge 3 car garage home with all of the bling.

I think the obvious answer is NO!
@@Steve-og4ii yep. They're in deception and leading others into it
I love Golden Goose sneakers.
The conclusion is this at 47 years in the Christian faith :
1. 97 % don’t know how to read and research the Scriptures written by hebrews and Jews.
Wow. You’re just sir know it all then. Lol
Ultimately I left pagan Christianity but kept the Father, the Son and his Holy Spirit
@@Goawaypleasenow anyone who tries to obey de commandments is a just person, but the flesh is always present . Our roots came from the Catholic Church and still no one tells us cause many will loose their faith.

I look forward to buying Ben’s book. Really enjoyed this podcast.
I am so excited to listen to this! Just by the title.

But these are the kinds of verses I string together to form my views on the subject of Christian financial responsibility:
There's the "Great Commission", where Jesus tells us to evangelize the world (Matt 28:18-20).
Then, there's Peter's statement that Christ will not return until everyone who will believe the Gospel and repent does so (2 Pet 3:3-4, 9).
Paul reminds us that such salvation can only occur if evangelists are sent (Rom 10:13-15).
Then, there's this command by Jesus:
"Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys" (Luke 12:33).
The early church carried out that command in Acts 2:44-45; 4:32-37. (It is in the "aorist imperative" tense in the Greek text, so it is a command.)
Then there's the renouncing of possessions Jesus calls for in Luke 14:33. Anything we retain should be for God's purposes, either directly or indirectly. (Pastor John Gray's $5,600 sneakers are not the shoes of the "gospel of peace" in Eph 6:15.)
Jesus later calls on us to spend our money for the express purpose of saving souls (Luke 16:9).
I appreciate the denominations where pastors have to wear a certain uniform.
I'm new to your UA-cam. This is so good and I agree with you two so much. Thank you for speaking the truth ❤
At the end of the day those using their celebrity status for the wrong reasons will have to face God. It’s the world we live in. That’s why is so important to read word.
So thankful I'm Catholic and all our priests essentially dress the exact same way!
The main problem it's not the clothes, if those guys started preaching the true gospel and live out the gospel nobody would care about the price tag on their clothes…

13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
