  • When installing a upgraded camshaft there is much more to look at then just the cam specs. You need to look at all the components effected by the higher lift and rape rates of your "big cam". Followers, timing sets, push rods, rocker, springs etc. Address these weak points now before there is a problem later on.

Here's a little trick I picked up a few years ago. When you have something metal and it is tight going in get yourself a can of air and turn it upside down. be careful you can really hurt yourself doing this it is best done with gloves on. I do a lot of small engine work out in my garage and I don't charge friends and neighbors unless I have to buy parts. Some of these engines have the valve seats that fall out. Instead of waiting for the freezer to do its work I just grab a can of air and I can have the head back on in most cases 10 minutes. the good thing about doing it this way you don't have to worry about it warming up.if it does warm back up hit it with the air again.
    I'm enjoying following your videos.

Good trick! ive done that before with small bearings and a can of keyboard cleaner held upside down. That certainly would have done the trick on this project.

Robert Fletcher I also have a question of opinion, I bought a new set of OEM rockers for my new Mast 305 heads instead of transferring mine off my stock heads.
When I was doing my trunnion upgrade (Smith Brother Bronze Trunnion Upgrade) I ran into an issue, like you stated in the video the bronze bearings are a tad larger than the stock needle bearing, making for a tight fit. As you suggested, I froze the bronze bearings and then pressed them in, but this is where I had a slight issue or what I think is a slight issue. On three of the rockers an even bit of the bronze was peeled off of them on the out side as I pressed them in, I cleaned them extensively and had them set aside, just in case there’s an issue. However, the neighbor boy who has a rare form of autism likes to come over hang out and help me in the garage, you know do man stuff since his dad abandoned him and his sisters. Well he started to play with the new upgraded rockers and accidentally mixed them up and now I have no idea which ones had the scraping. Deep down, I personally don’t feel it’s an issue, as they spin super freely and don’t hang up at all. Do you think I need to spend another $500 and start over with my rockers, or do you like me, feel I’m ok? Don’t worry, I’m just looking for an opinion, you have no liability at all. 😁 I also found these sites about our engines which have great information in them. Thanks for your help!

I rewatched this again, did you use the stock rocker bolts w/o washers, or did you opt for new rocker bolts with washers?

No issues, have driven the car about 10k miles since the engine work. If i were doing it again I would go with the CHE kit. You dont have to press the bushing in. Just put this in another Z06 project and I really like it.

Robert Fletcher sorry to hear man! Hopefully they get their ass in gear and get them to you! I’m about ready to tear my 07 Z down and get started on my upgrade. Your videos have helped tremendously

Robert Fletcher same head package you went with from TSP/PRC, the dual valve springs, SS exhaust valve, street porting and cut deck. Going with their stage 3.2 Cam - 240/252, .657"/.655", 111 LSA
Kooks 2” headers and catless x pipe, stock npp rear section
