Great job. I like your attention to detail. Actually I've watched several of your videos more than once. Great content, good entertainment and well laid out.
My Z06 is your cars twin brother LOL! I have a 2009 Cyber Gray 1LZ car with chrome spiders. This past spring I replaced the heads with off the shelf Trick Flow 260 LS7 heads along with 1 7/8" ARH headers with cats, BB PRT axle back, Haltech 108 intake and Elite Engineering catch can. I just bought a Cam Motion Stage 2 cam and Johnson lifters but I don't think I'm going to install it until Spring. To anyone tearing into the LS7 I recommend replacing the lifters with a high quality aftermarket lifter like Johnsons. I replaced the lifters in mine when I did the head swap because I had a bad one and 2000 miles on the new set I have another lifter bleeding down which is why I bought the Johnsons. Thanks for documenting your cam swap.
I just watch your video, hit the like button and subbed. Nice car and well done on your head install. I liked how you marked your head bolts. I sub to watch me wrench as well and I too saw his video on measuring for pushrods and his technique was genius. Thanks for the videos and hope to see more on your beast.
GREAT VIDEO SERIES!!! I'M IN THE SAME PERDICAMENT WITH MY Z06. IM IN FORT LAUDERDALE. DO YOU KNOW ANY LOCAL MECHANIC SHOPS WHO YOU WOULD TRUST TO FIX MY VALVUE GUIDES????

Was the fundamental problem of the misalignment of the centers of the exhaust valve and the valve guide corrected? If they just replaced the valve guides and reground the valve seats wouldn''t you basically be back at square one, like how it came from the factory?
I noticed your final torque sequence on the head bolts is a 45 degree angle with m12 style bolt whereas any info I can find on the LS7 seems to be qn M11 bolt w/ a 70 degree final pass... I'm confused lol. I just finished putting my heads on my 09 C6Z a few hours ago and followed your torque sequence. Any help would be great, thanks!
Thumbs up, Brother, you know your stuff, and you pay attention to detail. I have a 2012 Z06, one of the 19 cars painted Crystal Red (which I had to get from Ohio), and although I would love to be able to do the things you've done to your car, my back is too messed up, and I don't have the location to work. I'm in Fort Lauderdale also, and I'd be grateful for any advice on a place that can do the work for me. Stay safe!
Robert Fletcher I’m in CT, but keep my Z06 near Pompano as well. I’m putting the parts together to do mine and would prefer to have someone do it if it’s reasonable. I’ll have to checkout Redline Motorsports as well. If anyone has used them for this job, please post up here!
to install the heads it doesn't matter. but you will need to follow the procedure when installing the rockerarms. normally I put it at tdc1 before I assemble.
You did a fantastic job. My only concern is that I did not hear you speak about changing the head bolts. They are torque to yield and should not be reused. What cam did you upgrade too. Also what is the address of the company that did the heads. Thanks. Jerry.
Jerry, thanks for the comment. The head bolts were changed with NEW factory GM head bolts. I think the previous video in the series had all the parts listed and I think that is where I covered the TTY bolts. Texas-Speed and performance did the heads. Check them out on Google. Cam is from Vette-Air called the black widow.
The video's are all part of a playlist. The next video has the trunnion upgrades. The video after that has the rocker install. Just keep watching and you will see it all. lash caps go on the intake only.
South Florida Gearheads boss I bought a ZO6 that had a blown engine and antifreeze came out of the oil lines and drain plug aswell and a piece of metal came out! 😂 do you know what it might of been?
South Florida Gearheads yea for now I know the intake manifold had oil & antifreeze coolant aswel when we took off the oil plug from the oil pan and it didn’t have coolant in the radiator or any oil in the canister
I just bought a LS7 crate engine and then found out about the "valve drop" issue. I haven't installed it in the car yet so my plan was to go with Texas Speed as well. could you give some info on what you have paid for the parts and services with those guys? Also your videos are very informative. thanks for sharing your adventures in the LS7 world. Lol
Hey Robert, love the video. In the process of doing my own heads right now. I had a question about your head bolts, the guides I have seen show settling torque at 22ft/lbs, a pass at 90 degrees and a final pass at 70. This is specified for a M11, but I see in your manual it says they are M12 bolts with a 60ft/lbs, 90 degrees and final pass at 45. Any input on which one is correct? (mine is an 06 if that matters) Thanks!
@@southfloridagearheads I am looking at a GM service manual, it says the LS7 head bolts are M11 x 2 x 100 & M8 x 1.25 x 45, LS series Post 2004. That's why I'm confused yours is showing M12. The two processes are slightly different in your manual vs mine.
Robert Fletcher mine is a pdf version lol, so I’m not sure. I’ll dig into it a bit more. When I buy all the headgaskets and such from the dealer I’ll see if the have an FSM I can peek at.
These are re-worked stock heads. There are a bunch of companies out there making aftermarket heads also. To be honest i'm not sure if this is a permanent fix or not. Ive just about racked up 10k miles on my heads so I plan to inspect them again to see if there is any guide wear or not.
Thanks for the reply. Can’t wait for that video. I’m wondering if the reworked head or aftermarket (specifically AHP) fix whatever issue these motors had
@@trevonwilson1 my engine needed the heads rebuilt because the valve guides were out of spec so yes it was worth it. I believe it was around $1300 for the package.

@South Floria Gearheads is this so, that the official GM release on info on the LS7 head issues are for 2008-2011, and only certain ones? thoughts?
yeah, problem is I have yet to see where they release what VIN are effected. So its a total gamble if you get a an LS7 with bad guides or not.
Did you end up having to rotate your crank to TDC?

You should get a spec and flow sheet.
