The best part is that the range of Halo CE's shotgun is almost realistic. Real shotguns actually do have an impressive range as we commonly use them to blast birds out of the sky. It's weird to me that other games seem to think shotguns can't hit anything further than 15 ft away.
Thats pretty much entirely just for balance purposes If shotguns were made realistically in Video games they'd basically just be the only weapon worth using because they'd be almost impossible to miss with and would tear everything in half. The only way to balance that is to add extreme damage fall off after a certain point which is more or less just extra work when capping their range entirely is gonna more or less do the same thing. That being said, fallout 4s shotguns with explosive rounds did make me extremely happy, carrying around a shotgun that effectively shelled whatever i pointed at was extremely satisfying
Buckshot in videogames actually acts pretty realistically if you accept the low damage of each individual projectile. Look at Infection for example - zombies have no shields, and therefore fewer hit points: the shotty oneshots them from further away than a shielded target, whom you need to barrelstuff.
If I remember rightly, the halo shotgun is an 8 Gauge-magnum with a large 3 & 3/4" chamber. So I'm guessing that with more shot and each shot being a bit bigger, the halo shotgun would be better at longer range than most modern irl shotguns.
Because they have to be balanced, and unless you're going to make a system for armored and unarmored enemy like Tarkov or something, they'd just be overpowered mini DMRs.
Imagine the utter horror on the faces of everyone in the Institute as a man in a half ton of titanium power armor with an anti material sniper and 8 Gauge shotgun simply plow through your “secure” bunker
*crocodile dundee voice* That's not power armor, that's combat armor. @@jansenart0 rampancy worked differently in Marathon, and I’m referring to how Cortana couldn’t have been around to see all of that. The Spartan IIs got their armor in 2525, and Cortana had to have been created in 2549 because Halo 4 takes place in 2557.
UNSC "Smart" AIs like Cortana are created using human brains. The process destroys the brain, so they usually did it on the dying or recently dead. Then one day, Dr. Catherine Halsey started experimenting with clones of her own brain. The first few attempts failed, of course. The 7th was a system-infiltration-and-data-retrieval specialist named Cortana. I believe the 8th was Halsey's personal assistant Kalmiya. (Actually, since Halo Reach overrides several other things in the novels, Kalmiya might not be canon) Smart AIs have been known to have access to some of their human life's memories, especially as they grow closer to Rampancy. Halsey personally paid John a visit when he was a 6-year-old kid winning at KOTH on a school playground, and kept a close eye on him since. So, in a way, Cortana kind of wasn't lying. She was likely referring to Halsey's memories of John's career.

Also a little tip for anyone who wants a bunch of .308, 5.56, .44, and .50 cal. There's a vendor directly south of diamond city called fairline hill estates. There will be 2 yao gui but they can be avoided, there's a trailer on the north side of the buildings you would run into it first if you're coming from diamond but it's a bit hidden from terrain. With this you'll have access to the .44 revolver, assault rifle, and any mods that need .50 cal, good luck to any newcomers.
I have an idea for a character challenge for the future, can you beat Fallout New Vegas as The Spy? Rule 1: You can only use revolvers and knives as weapons. As these are the only weapons Spy uses in TF2. Rule 2: You can only wear a suit (Businesswear, Benny’s, White Glove, etc.) for armor. This is because the only Spy ever wears is his suit. The only exceptions are for if you happen to get into combat whilst wearing a disguise, or hats. Rule 3: Speaking of disguises, you can only interact with people of major factions if you wear a disguise for that faction. The only exceptions are the White Glove Greeter (otherwise, it would be impossible to even get into the ultra-luxe), the Boomers, and Goodsprings (these factions don’t have disguises). Of course referencing the disguise kit and it’s use. Rule 4: Stealth must always be prioritized when facing a combat encounter. Rule 5: You have to sleep with at least one woman. Scout has to exist eventually after all. So you also have to get the Lady Killer perk ASAP. Rule 6: Don’t side with Mr. House. He is essentially Gray Mann in this run, one of TF2’s main villains in its lore. Other Notes: Veronica does not count as a brotherhood disguise. Companions are allowed as long as Rule 4 is still followed.

I loved messing around with the Halo mods for Fallout 4. I had some that added a bunch of the weapons from Halo Reach, a couple of armor/outfit packs, as well as some faction/enemy conversion mods that: turns the Raiders into Elites, Super Mutants into Brutes, and Ghouls/Radroaches into the Flood. It even gave the Elites and Brutes approprate weapons such as Plasma Repeaters, Plasma Rifles, Energy Swords, Fuel Rod Cannons, Plasma Turrets, Brute Spikers, and Gravity Hammers. I didn't really focus on the main story and just explored around in Survival Mode and in my headcanon, the Boston area was a wasteland not due to nuclear war, but a Covenant attack on the Earth. It was hella fun to take the weapons from Halo Reach that I became so familiar with and be able to customize them to my heart's content with Fallout's weapon customizing mechanics. It was great. The only issue is that even without mods, Fallout 4 on console has become a rather poorly optimized mess with high chances for the game to break or crash. Adding mods increases those chances to the point that I pretty much can't get anywhere near the Cambridge Police or downtown areas without the game 100% hard crashing. After doing a little research and some digging, I learned that even without mods, these areas have become near unplayable for a lot of players to the point that there have been massive mods made to solely focus on making these areas less likely to crash. The issue for me with these mods is they are so big, that they would pretty much be the only mods I would be able to use given the limited space for mod allowance on Xbox. It made it that there wasn't much point to playing Fallout 4 anymore because the only reason I wanted to play was to just screw around with a few mods. If I couldn't mess with the mods I wanted to...why even play?
I remember doing this, not as the master Chief but as my own Spartan. I did it like four times doing all of the endings. Kinda stinks though that no one ever mentions the appearance like if your character is taller. Or something, just kinda feels a bit disconnected
I did so as well and it was quite fun doing. It can be fun to do a themed run without having to play as a name character from the series the themed run is based off of

The best part is that the range of Halo CE's shotgun is almost realistic. Real shotguns actually do have an impressive range as we commonly use them to blast birds out of the sky. It's weird to me that other games seem to think shotguns can't hit anything further than 15 ft away.
Thats pretty much entirely just for balance purposes
If shotguns were made realistically in Video games they'd basically just be the only weapon worth using because they'd be almost impossible to miss with and would tear everything in half.

Kinda sucks how that line no longer works due to the 8 year AI rampancy thing.
@@Slender_Man_186 Rampancy comes from the Marathon series from the 90s.
(Actually, since Halo Reach overrides several other things in the novels, Kalmiya might not be canon)
Smart AIs have been known to have access to some of their human life's memories, especially as they grow closer to Rampancy.

@mr.wendigo That would actually be a great ideal for a sequel run.

Technically Chief WAS sprinting in the old Halo games. He felt slow because he was covering such a vast distance on foot and his reaction time is perceived by him and by extension us as time moving slower. The Sprint introduced in the new Halo games are more like an overcharged sprint like if they were moving at 60kmh normally the Sprint in the new games is like them going 80-100kmh.
