- The highly anticipated PlayStation VR 2 is here and we got the chance to unbox it ahead of its release. We take a look at the PSVR 2 headset, the brand new controllers, as well as a the charging dock. We also compare the new headset against the original to see how the new form factor stacks up.

The reason the PSVR2 isn't backwards compatible with the PSVR isn't the controllers. It has to do how tracking is done. Original PSVR used outside in tracking with the PlayStation camera and lights on the move, headset and dualshock 4 controller. The PSVR is inside outside tracking with the camera embedded in the headset and the new controllers ring being tracked by the head set.
That is such a weak reason. There are a multitude of different VR headsets on PC all with different tracking techniques that work with steam VR
Sony said back in early January a lot of PSVR games will have FREE PSVR2 upgrades whether it's a digital game or you own the disc, with more upgrades coming over time.

Foveated rendering is the true gamechanger for VR! We can finally get much closer to flatscreen graphics without sacrificing performance! Kayak Mirage VR is a great testament to FR as well as RE Village and HZ CotM. Vive 2 is the only other headset that has FR. It's only a matter of time when the modding community work their homebrew magic and make this PC friendly! Doubt it will need a mod chip since ps5 is x86 afterall.
Also the fact that you need a cable to connect it is not a negative it will actually eliminate all latency that comes from wireless meaning locked framerates!
Modding community might take years to get basic features working on the headset
Apparently it’s similar to a 3090ti if you account for foviated rendering, it sounds awesome

Cant wait! Capcom please upgrade Resident Evil 7 for PSVR2 and also SOny needs to update Blood and Truth! Those were two of the best VR games but using old tech.

I’m actually glad to hear the controllers are a bit smaller. They looked bulky in previous videos. Less chance in them bumping into each other when you’re playing

The dpad issue isn’t really a issue. The vr games utilize the psvr2’s eye tracking by making so that if you look at the item in inventory for example and press x you can select it
When you put the handsets on the charging station they kind of look like one controller together at those angles. That’s neat

Seeing as Sony officially released and are supporting DualSense drivers for PC on Windows and Linux, I'm excited to see if they're going to also support drivers for SteamVR!!!

My PSVR box has always had this purpose. It's just very convenient for the headset not to get dusty.

Sony are smart as they intended the PSVR 2 box to be a storage box for the headset and controllers as they mentioned it in their official unboxing video and it’s cheaper when compared to the original as the original had to be used with a camera which costs and you also had to spend extra on the move controllers but the only thing Sony didn’t do was give us a dust cloth for wiping the lenses but I’ll use my PlayStation VR dust cloth
I’ll just use the cloth that comes with my glasses

@Unmei 110 is impressive for the pricepoint and form factor of the headset. Obviously the bigger the FOV the better, but there are very few headsets pulling off 110 right now, let alone significantly more.

Really curious what plans Sony has for VR Oculus really has a strangle hold on the space but doesn’t seem to be getting the development properties it needs to really take off in the mainstream.
Oculus/Meta used to put a lot of money into financing 'AAA' VR titles for PC and were pretty much alone in doing so but since the Quest became the most popular PCVR headset they have stopped doing this,perhaps because quality VR games aren't possible on weak Quest 2 hardware so the finance isn't really needed.
Just let the amatuer basement dwellers produce crappy Quest games and someone will still buy it.
VR is fun for like an hour. Console/PC gaming is much better

So you plug in the charging plugs only once … first time when you use them … you don’t need to take them out every time you play and plug them in when you want to charge ..

Those headphones don’t look like the ones included in the original psvr. They made another updated psvr and maybe it was on that one but not on the original launch psvr
