Playing with the PSVR2 all day I would say OLED isn't worth the trade off. The pixel arrangement is very obvious and prevents it from looking very sharp. I mean it's shap enough I can see the screendoor. The blurring is pretty bad and the chromatic abberation is really bad. The FOV is great compared to my Quest 2 and much better than my Reverb G2, seems similar to the Index. For a very affordable $500 headset is pretty good but not making me wish I could hook it up to my PC. I still greatly prefer the Reverb G2. I am getting the Pimax Crystal and hoping that lives up to everything it claims.
I see so many reviews complaining about how it's not compatible with pc. That would be a stupid thing to do from Sony's side. How many vr headsets are compatible with a playstation?

I heard that the reason why SONy went for Fresnel-lenses was that they wanted to make a headset that could show a very bright image. HDR maybe. I'm not a technician so I don't know but this is how I remember it.
In VR it’s either pancake or OLED/higher FOV. No In-between. I see PSVR2 as giving opportunity to ps5 players to play an entire separate library of games on top of the already great lineup of first party games available and coming. Definitely a solid buying point.

Nice review, I'm finding it hard to use because of the grainy/blotchy screens, when playing gt7 my eyes keep automatically focusing on these rough looking spots across the whole screen. I don't know if it's just me or I got poor quality screens. It's very noticeable and distarcting..its like looking trough a screen protector that needs to be removed.
I think there are about 40 PSVR1 games confirmed with upgrades already. The vast majority are free. Hopefully as time passes, and the headset rolls out fully, more devs will cash in on the new audience and release upgrades. I'm looking at you; Skyrim, Borderlands, LA Noire, and most of all Hitman. GET IT DONE. 👊
It is called mura effect rather than screendoor? Thanks for your review. I really like your enthusiasm and am impressed with all the headsets you've collected behind you.
Great review. interesting how we differ. (Im new to VR) .I think the god rays are really bad with black screen and white text... but other than that I very rarely will see it (so far) .I was able to put on my controllers (testing it) without pass through.. so its possible with some practice if you want. .FOV is serviceable to me. the Stereoscopic effect is about equal to my real life (where my nose blocks.. so Im only missing 2D periphery.. so its good enough, but certain situations the real life 170° would be useful with multiple enemies. .I dont think the wireless would be better in today's VR offering. .I was actually very pleased with the provided earbuds. Mine stayed in even after brushing the wire with my arm from climbing. the heaphone sound quality is also not middle of the road. Slightly better than your average earbud so its actually going to be my audio of choice when Im not sharing my headset (at which point Im using my high end over ear headphones) .I differ in my clarity satisfaction. Even when in focus.. things are just... kind of a soft clarity. I take it off and look at my TV and the TV is definitely more clear.. but should be expected as the VR screen is incredibly close to my face lol
I'm a VR noob, but PSVR2 has sold me. Backed up by the PS5 and the Sony 1st party banger machine, this was the time for me to join in. Don't give a toss about the cable, I prefer power. Don't give a toss about the lenses, I want brightness over a bit of limited godrays now and then. Good design should avoid Godrays anyway. It's waiting for me at home now and I can't wait to get GT7 and my rig hooked up with it.
I want to play gt7 in vr for long time , but I have had enough of quest 2's sweet spot so small which psvr2 use the same lens, I have to think about it... Thanks for the honest review and thanks for the english review , english is not my mother tongue too.
Everything about this looks great. They even had a reason to use the old lenses for the OLED display. I will ask though, is Sony on a mission to make the worst battery life on a controller ever? Seriously. The number one complaint with the duelsense is the battery life. So for the pro version and PSVR version they made it even WORSE. Why Sony? Why?
I might get one when the RE4 Remake VR mode is available. And I'll use it to play Beat Saber. If RE7 and Borderlands 2 would also work on PSVR2, that would be a no brainer for me.
High end PCVR just became very affordable, I sold my expensive PCVR rig when I read the specs of the PSVR2 and saw its software lineup, I then bought a PS5 and pre-ordered a PSVR2, this sort of VR experience used to be very expensive and cumbersome with PCVR setup and driver issues.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that most people complaining about blurriness are VR newbies. I’m convinced a lot of people aren’t wearing the headset right unfortunately. For Most people, the image is clear and sharp. The only way your VR can be blurry is if your headset is not worn right or you got a defective unit. But as of now, I’m leaning towards people not wearing it right. Many people resolved their “blur” issues by simply following instructions. You would be surprised how many people did not follow directions! Pushing the headband towards the far back of your head makes the world a difference.
@@Red-Eyez420gamingBut even still…if you’re new to VR and came into it expecting crystal clear FULL 4K UHD clarity then you overshot your expectations. Compared to previous generation headsets, this thing is on another level. 💯

I wish people explained field of view a bit better. Does the image take up your entire view when looking straight, or will you see black borders? Also, what is the image quality like compared to flat screen visuals? 720p? 1080p?
There is definitely still borders with the psvr2, but not nearly as bad as the original PSVR, the 110° field of view has definitely opened up the borders a bit, still noticeable though

I have to disagree with your statement of the quest 2 and psvr field of view feeling the same I notice a substantial difference in that department , I agree with everything else but wearing the quest feels like your peering into another world using binoculars but the psvr 2 feels more like your looking through a window is the best way I could describe the difference , and I was playing the quest the day before my psvr 2 arrived , was first thing I noticed
@@voodoodevr-en true your ipd can effect it but even at the smallest and largest points the psvr is better , I believe it's the extra vertical fov that makes the difference
Great review. Would advise against buying the recharge station Sadly it's dogshit as you have to fiddle around to connect the controllers to the charging docks. PSVR itself is mind-blowing stuff. Worth every cent.
I have a very large IPD, 75mm, I can use headsets that are slightly less, but not below 70mm. Can you measure the max IPD setting with a tape measure? This is the one thing holding me back from buying one.
I saw another reviewer say he had a 69 IPD and used this and he did his fine... not sure that helps you at all, but I don't think he maxed it out either, I could be wrong
Sound: What about the Sony 3D Pulse headset? Can you use it with the bluetooth connection to the PS5? Would the sound be in sync with the picture? Or would it be better to use the cable and connect it to output of the PSVR2?
It works, and it looks good. Not as clear as your 4K 75" TV at 5 feet away, but it is passable with nice OLED HDR color. I may use it to watch movies in occasionally.
I don't how people are finding it acceptable! It's a blurry crap fest. Get the latest phone put it in a lunch box and strap it all to your face and you're now experiencing psvr2 cinematic mode.
Gonna wait until either PlayStation themselves comes out of their shell and enables pc support (I get from a business perspective they make most of their money from games, but I highly doubt anyone like myself only willing to buy if it is pc compatible wouldn’t try out their games anyways) or if someone makes a work around for it because I have freinds that play and I want to play a lot of cooler games that wouldn’t be on psvr2 and that’s just a huge deal breaker which sucks because the features and fact I can play ps exclusives on it is cool, but not cool enough to disregard the pc support
It will be up to the developers to upgrade PSVR2. Because of the complete difference in tracking, it would be difficult to switch to the inside-out tracking of the new headset. I am willing to bet that as this gains popularity, more PSVR games will update to PSVR2.
Well they did say that pancakes would block out a lot of light and they (Sony) didn't want to compromise on that. But idk how much light aspheric lenses block in comparison to pancake. PSVR 1 had aspheric lenses and OLED display. AFAIK.
Congratulations on creating a clean, beautiful product! Is the Omni One compatible with Quest 2, and somewhat speculatively, with Quest 3 available in the near future?
@@CMgaming-2469 which media player for psvr2? I use SkyBox in my Quest 2 air screening from my Mac. Still do not know how to watch on my new PSVR2. Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
The more I see this from the developer's view the more I realize why making it backwards compatible would have been a terrible idea. There would have been many incompatibilities when trying to convert the entire Move based library with external camera and light sensing to an internal tracking system w/ 2 Sense controllers. Or would they still have people use Move controllers to preserve the integrity of the game? The whole idea becomes very messy. Then you have the very blurry graphics of many first PSVR games which would look out of place with PSVR2 games. Would the developer still have to update all of this manually? And work for free to make, those of us would bought it years ago, for $3, happy? I don't think any developer would want to agree to that. The best option is the one they have taken... Upgrade the best of the best, from last gen.. Give them perfected Sense controls, haptic feedback - in controller/HMD, adaptive triggers, much improved resolution, HDR support, Tempest 3D audio support, and maybe charge $5 or so for existing owners to upgrade. That sounds like the most fair deal for both the owner and the publisher.
They all need upgrading other than than the worst of the worst. It is easy to do and that has been proven. Ditching everyone’s previous games is a deal breaker for most I know. They simply will not ditch all their old games to update to psvr2 so Sony has shots themselves in the foot hence the low sales. I have a bad feeling about this head set they have gone about in a bad way and rushed poor marketing. 3-4 hours charge? Lol
@J Miles: Low sales? I'm seeing this selling quite well. Where are your sales numbers? Also, if you're basing your thought on the fake Bloomberg article it was debunked immediately by Sony themselves. Though Bloomberg didn't bother to issue an apology or change their wrong article.
3D. All VR headsets use 2 displays. 2 slightly different point of views of the game world are rendered into each display. This way you'll see everything in 3D.

For a very affordable $500 headset is pretty good but not making me wish I could hook it up to my PC. I still greatly prefer the Reverb G2. @@WOojerVest3andQuest3onMe well, if any of them would be it’d be God of War and it wouldn’t be the full game, it’d be like a horizon situation where maybe it’s a little side story. Long form games like that just aren’t meant for vr and any that are long form are usually shooters. I mean just look how slowly we move around horizon vr and how dumbed down it is. Sure it’s cool, but I don’t think many would want to do it for 20-30 hrs. Developers generally make vr optimized games. Yeah, the headset has HDR.

Psvr 2 is absolutely amazing love it so much
In VR it’s either pancake or OLED/higher FOV.

They put a filter in front of the display making it slightly blurry.
Thanks for your review. I really like your enthusiasm and am impressed with all the headsets you've collected behind you.
mura or nomura ...the headset is utter rubish...
Great review. interesting how we differ. (Im new to VR)
.I think the god rays are really bad with black screen and white text... but other than that I very rarely will see it (so far)
.I was able to put on my controllers (testing it) without pass through.. so its possible with some practice if you want.
.FOV is serviceable to me. the Stereoscopic effect is about equal to my real life (where my nose blocks.. so Im only missing 2D periphery.. so its good enough, but certain situations the real life 170° would be useful with multiple enemies.
.I dont think the wireless would be better in today's VR offering.
.I was actually very pleased with the provided earbuds. Mine stayed in even after brushing the wire with my arm from climbing. the heaphone sound quality is also not middle of the road. Slightly better than your average earbud so its actually going to be my audio of choice when Im not sharing my headset (at which point Im using my high end over ear headphones)
.I differ in my clarity satisfaction. Even when in focus.. things are just... kind of a soft clarity. I take it off and look at my TV and the TV is definitely more clear.. but should be expected as the VR screen is incredibly close to my face lol
No issues here.
Very good review. Does this have the pentile subpixel layout?
I was spend two entire evenings to watch different reviews for PS VR 2 and this is the best one! So informative! Thank you very much!
19:02 hopefully (ps5 HD camera) gets an update that supports psvr2, so it could track the out of sight movements the headset couldn’t detect.
There are no trackable LEDs on the HMD. It's also really a non issue for 99.9% of the current games, and as the SDK improves it'll not be an issue.
I want to play gt7 in vr for long time , but I have had enough of quest 2's sweet spot so small which psvr2 use the same lens, I have to think about it...
Thanks for the honest review and thanks for the english review , english is not my mother tongue too.
Pancake lenses are not next generation, they are an option where you compromise brightness and colour gamut for compactness and weight.
And clarity without distortions. This is a huge benefit of pancakes.
Plus added clarity, no glare, god rays, and distortions. You're extremely misinformed about the pancake lenses.

Your VR tech reviews are the best I’ve found, vielen Dank!
Why Sony? Why?
It's because of the haptics and the adaptive triggers. They use a lot of power.
Wont be an issue when they finally sell spare controllers which is my plan have a set on charge to swap to
There are too many disadvantages. Because of that I will not buy it. Now Pico 4 is the winner
The quest 2s FOV is garbage......The haptics in quest 2 controllers are barely able to be felt.....thats why the batteries last so long
I might get one when the RE4 Remake VR mode is available. And I'll use it to play Beat Saber.
If RE7 and Borderlands 2 would also work on PSVR2, that would be a no brainer for me.

It's not so much that it's blurry. It's that film grain on the lenses. It's really off putting for me...called the mura effect or something...

There is definitely still borders with the psvr2, but not nearly as bad as the original PSVR, the 110° field of view has definitely opened up the borders a bit, still noticeable though

I think I have a faulty unit. Although the eye tracking is working I don’t think it’s rendering the picture. My resolution is bad and gainy. No matter how much I try calibrate it. The sweetspot doesn’t get any better
My Image is Sharp and Clear everywhere I look even in the distance the image is clear. Did you follow all the steps on to a tee…? Did you adjust your IPD wheel to get 2 perfect green rings..? You may want to try it again. I even wear glasses, doesn’t effect my visual quality at all, however, the Sweet Spot is very tiny so once you find it. Spin the knob on the back to lock it in place.

Sadly it's dogshit as you have to fiddle around to connect the controllers to the charging docks.
PSVR itself is mind-blowing stuff. Worth every cent.
I have no such problems whatsoever. Personally I think the dock is a necessity.
I have a very large IPD, 75mm, I can use headsets that are slightly less, but not below 70mm. Can you measure the max IPD setting with a tape measure? This is the one thing holding me back from buying one.

You can use it wireless with Bluetooth and the sound is in sync
I used the Pulse headset with mine all day yesterday with no issues. Works great and stays in sync, and both can be worn comfortably.
cinematic mode non vr games why nobody istaking about it ?
Because it's blurry and useless. Looks much worse than an actual TV. If you have a 4k TV it's not even worth checking it for the novelty factor.
What about cinematic mode?
I mentioned that in the review
AFAIK.
Psvr2 is a cool concept but it is very inpractical in daily use. Returning mine

Lol
They wanted to wipe the slate clean, basically.
@J Miles: Low sales? I'm seeing this selling quite well. Where are your sales numbers? Also, if you're basing your thought on the fake Bloomberg article it was debunked immediately by Sony themselves. Though Bloomberg didn't bother to issue an apology or change their wrong article.

Bad:
7:42 you can see the chromatic abberation (fringing of the colors blue and red). You have to put the headset perfectly to minimize it but that tiny sweet spot wouldn't stay where I wanted. I thought it was my lenses misaligned anwas going to to return it. But watching these videos I see them everywhere. For regular folks it prevents certain objects from being sharp. Hate the halo strap because uber tight is the only adjustment. I still want a counterweight but my VR Balance is too heavy and won't fit.
The cable is a meter or two too short for roomscale and I tried running it up on the pulley system and it was too short.

Price. Yes it's a bargain and makes up for everything else. If you own a playstation 5 is a no braner. If you own a PC... got to with HP Reverb G2 despite the fov. It supplanted my Pimax 8k+.
You can extend the cable 1 meter, according to Virtual Reality Oasis.
It is nice not having pressure on your face while wearing it, but the lack of a facial interface makes it much harder to find and keep the headset in the sweet spot.
I'd prefer off ear speakers, but was surprised with the quality of sound from the earbuds - which I intended to throw away.
RE8 and GT7 are fantastic. If Sony continues with hybrids like these, I can see PSVR2 becoming a "Must Have" headset.

I just got the VR2 and in a min of wearing it my first reaction is this thing is sooo uncomfortable. The whole weight of the item falls on my nose bridge. In 30 sec I come up with a simple design solution. The headset should of had a band that stretches over your head, so the weight of it falls on top of your head and wears like a hat instead your nose is doing the support. So ridiculous how do you test this product for years and come up with something so uncomfortable? This crazy...I am so pissed right now.
Are you tightening the ring around your head? It should be supported by your forehead, not nose
Use the wheel on the top of the headset to move the lenses out some. They should not be digging into your nose.
Follow the on screen set-up properly. There’s a button on the front of the headset to pull the lenses away from your face. The headset does not sit on your nose bridge.

How to radically downgrade a good product with least amount of effort and money. Just slap some contrast and immersion braking freshnell shit in the hmd
it's actually a great headset. Its comparable to the Index, which I also own. So you're wrong, but whatever. Sony actually nailed it.
@@Stonehorn Im not saying it isnt good value headset. The point was it
Could have been superb and by skimping from the wrong place they reduced the image quality More than the one area they saved little money as what oled brings to the table is somewhat diminished by using freshnell lenses. Its like bying a super fast Car but then you put tires on it that has max speed limit 60km/h.
I had index for 2 weeks. Good fov. Good audio. Shitty blacks and the freshnells made the image even worse 🤮
And tbh, its mostly comparable to index BECAUSE OF THOSE FRESHNELLS
@@MrMetaloholic it looks great, works great, and is reviewed well because of that, period.
@@Stonehorn nothing i said was not on the review. Also If you think so that just great 👍
Everything is subjective.
What one expects and gets
I have one and not much difference from the first. Rubbish titles on release. Not worth the hype.
You think games like Pavlov, Re 8, GT7, Moss 1, Moss 2, Kayak are rubbish? Yea right I don’t believe you even own a PSVR2.
@@vincevirtua on release date actually first thing. Thank you very much for your concerns but probs much sooner than yours arrived. Stop being silly! Not much improvement and you know it
@@Brasslantern007 my point was they’re objectively not rubbish.
@@vincevirtua in your opinion
Gt7, re village and horizon are fantastic. I’m thinking you don’t have one.
I was very underwhelmed. Had mine for 3 days. I was dissapointed on nearly every level. Rattle off all the specs you want, it feels the sane as psvr1 to me and the people I let try my unit. I got outrageously sick. The image quality is way below what I expected. Games were very average at best most were like tech demos or carnival games. VR is no wear near mass adoption and no one will make any money off psvr2. I returned mine already.
1:1 with my experience and opinion....im gona return mine aswell...
I think I found the problem of the psvr 2. It uses a compressed video signal. The cable is not a video cable it is a link cable like in the oculus quest. What people think to be the mura is the video compression artifact.
Nah not really. Mura is due to un even Ness in oled panel
This is over priced crap..packing mine for return..disappointed 4K my ass
You want resolution? Look into varjo areo. With a 4090 iam running most games at 90hz at nearly 4k an eye.
Returned mine aswell, it was so blurry in the corners. When I held my head steady and just looked around all corners were blurry. Only the center had normal resolution. Horizon felt like an old ps4 game
@@arnoldboulz1365 you did not set your headset up right
@@arnoldboulz1365 also that doesn’t make sense because vr2 has eye tracking.
@@xstatixtribalelectronicmus2787 that's not how eye tracking works. And he is right, the edges are blurry.
Not wireless- not buying it.
Got a PSVR "1" but will never buy 2 f u Sony.
Yeah .. you Germans love a bit of rubber 😂
It gets blurry (visual fidelity), shades of the first one. Can't say I'm impressed with it at all. Talk about pre-release bias reviews from people who got sent one. No different than the PSVR 1 when you're in a game or on the main menu. Same quality pretty much. I am not joking. And how hard is it to add a media player with a 360 video option?
I agree, I've had mine for one day and I'm not really interested in using it any more. It's too blurry for me.
I Heavily disagree it’s perfectly clear and the visuals are amazing if you get the IPD right
Agreed, it is much blurrier than Quest 2.
@@dylandavies9553 We know there's a filter applied and softening of fidelity to ensure high frame rate. It's not a crisp image. Even SadleyItsBradley agrees the image is not sharp and he's the authority on VR, he talked about it in a recent youtube live stream and will be doing video on it soon.
Yep. I was by no means blown away. I have only used a PSVR1, I have 3 of them. Hitman 3 on PSVR1 looks as good as any of the 7 games I played when I tested my PSVR2.
The headset is on ot comfortable. I couldn't play more than 2.5 hours before having to take it off. I could do 10 hour stretches in my PSVR1 with no issue.
I actually don't like the controllers either. As silly as it sounds, I much prefer the old wand in my hand.
Wish I would've waited.
I despise console gaming on every level
This channel has the worst viewers lol!
@@vincevirtua agreed
Very childish attitude.
Still not as good tracking as PC.
You mean lighthouse tracking? on pc you also have mixed reality for example and that tracking sucks so bad.
The PC doesn't really determine the tracking. PCVR HMDs all have different levels of tracking.
