Really glad you guys enjoyed this. One thing I worry about is how it was marketed. Like how you guys thought "Us" was marketed, they also tried marketing this as a horror movie when REALLY it's a sci-fi movie with a few horror/thriller elements. That actually threw a few people I know off when they watched it.
the monkey thing isn't unanswered....it's a wild animal that Jupe thought he had a connection with. Jupe thought he tamed the money, but he didn't. The monkey avoided beating him to death because it couldn't see his eyes (obscured by the yellow tablecloth). Also, Jupe thinks that the standing shoe signified a miracle, even though it was just a random event. As a result of all of this, Jupe never truly learned the monkey's rules. It's a wild animal that attacked when it was scared, and it spared Jupe because he didn't look it directly in its eyes (it didn't see him as a threat at that moment). This is why the alien killed him....Jupe did not learn the alien's rules like Oj and his team did. He believed he could tame the alien and he died because of it. Basically, Oj's dad said that some beasts can't be tamed. People thought they tamed the monkey, but it brutally mauled humans....same with the alien.
@@JeshuaSquirrel brooooooooo I didn’t think about that.🤯 I knew everything else about him not learning his lesson and him considering that the standing shoe was a sign of a miracle. But, never did I once consider that he was staring at the shoe and not Gordy
For anyone actually wondering - the government changed the term from UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) to UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) because literally anything in the air that you don't know what it is is technically a "UFO" - a frisbee is a UFO if you don't realize that it's a UFO. UAP specifically refers to the phenomenon of an aerial craft/animal/object that cannot be identified by official means. UFO just means "something in the air that I don't recognize right now," and UAP means "we tried to figure out what this shit is and we can't."
And as for whatever the creature is - it could be extraterrestrial, OR it could be a "cryptid," an unidentified species of creature from here. (UAPs can also be, and usually ARE, earth-based. They're usually things that just weren't identified at first, and are later on.) I think that's why there was so much focus on animals in this movie. You can't always explain why/how an animal behaves, like with Gordy. That's the same situation with whatever this creature is. A big thing with a lot of animals is DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT. They see it as a challenge/threat. Once OJ (Kaluuya) realized that it was an animal and that it was behaving similarly to some animals, he changed his behaviors. You have to learn as you go.
You almost got there. But why they changed it is to make it a broader term. Cause whatever unidentified thing in the air could not always be an object. It's more accurate that way. Could be a swarm of birds or just some weather phenomena or even something from the actual camera that's capturing it, UAP can fit both meanwhile UFO cannot.
@@KenSahaja "You almost got there." Fuck off with the weird arrogance. And FYI, they changed it because it was TOO broad, you dipshit. I said that in my previous post.
The cinematographer who sacrificed himself was earlier shown taking some medicine. Earlier in the movie he responds to "the deal of a lifetime" with "hopefully not my lifetime." The dude had a terminal illness. This was his last hurrah.
@@avamin.s me neither, I was looking around for a probable explanation for his suicide, this one seems to fit the bill, especially because he looked at his other footage disappointingly as if he could never get the perfect shot, so to end his suffering and fulfil his dream, he sacrificed himself. this is totally one of my favorite movies now
The reason Jean Jacket puffed up into its “jellyfish” state is because it was displaying its dominance. Similar to how a cat will hiss and puff up its fur, or how a bear will stand on its hind legs to appear bigger. The wire Angel wrapped himself in hurt it, so it grew frustrated and began seeing the humans as a threat- so it attempted to intimidate them. Jean Jacket's behavior is a lot like real animals, which is the point. Many animals see eye contact as a sign of aggression and will quickly become hostile. Many animals also attempt to intimidate whatever they feel threatened by. The reason it didn't kill OJ I assume is because while he stared it down, he backed up slowly- showing Jean Jacket that he wasn't afraid of it but wasn't a threat to it either.
@@HeWhoLoMeins138 Ya that was my first reaction too, its big fast and deadly but also clearly made of thin billowy material. Like a jellyfish tear a hole in it and youve seriously injured it.
Right! He grew up being exploited as a child actor Hollywood, so exploiting first his trauma (charging people to visit the Gordy shrine) and then Jean Jacket is the only way he knows how to cope.
It also feels like sensationalizing was how he was FORCED to cope. As the only uninjured survivor, he must’ve been interviewed dozens of time by so many news companies. Then with social media, tragedies spread like wildfire. And then you got people that make fun of tragedy, like SNL. Looking at his tragedy through a lens was all he knew given the environment he was stuck in
Someone else had pointed out that when he was asked about what had happened to him, he responds with the skit ABOUT the event, and not his own experience
The Gordy scene scared the shit out of me because of how realistic it is, because if you know anything about chimps, you know that they will either kill you or make you wish they did
That was actually something that happened irl u can find the call online where the woman’s friend called the police while the chimp was ripping her face apart
Sheera guessed one of the themes of the movie within the first 12 minutes with what she said about animal stress. People attempting to gain money or fame off of animals and 9 times outta 10 it never ends well. Jupe was the one who survived the attack by Gordy and thought because of that he could tame the alien when in all reality Gordy couldn’t make eye contact with him because of the sheet. Great damn movie Edit: Fun fact, Jordan Peele loves Akira and the slide was absolutely intentional
She nailed so many parts of this movie as it was happening. She even understood the significance of the chimp and Jupes reasoning for thinking he could tame Jean Jacket.
The way Peele just flexed on us with the aliens being kids scene. Bro just said “I could definitely do a typical alien horror movie if I want, but nah. Catch this flying Umbrella”
To explain Angel suddenly becoming part of the main cast. The actor was originally supposed to be there for a bit part, but Peele loved the actor's performance so much that he expanded his role to a secondary character. XD
What I love about the alien (who, BTW, was actually named Jean Jacket in reference to the untamable horse) is that it ended up being none of the things Angel first suggested it was. It wasn't aliens looking for peace, nor a world destroyer, it was just a hungry animal acting like an animal would. A really big animal with super weird biology, but an animal nonetheless.
what I loved about that line angel said is that it directly correlated to the expectations for the people who cam to the theaters! Jordan peele literally knew it too! every trailer breakdown of this movie referenced one of those things or both. Theories were going crazy lol.
The digestion scene was so unnerving, it stayed on my my mind for days…. I couldn’t stop imagining how horrifying and disorienting it was for those people.
@@joshuanaylor3416 Well, to me, it wouldn't just be the squeezing/crushing claustrophobia and agonizingly slow digestion... but the darkness. Literal darkness, particularly when it became nighttime hours later when JJ was roaming through that rainstorm. When Jube and his audience were first abducted, it was around morning/during the day. When JJ sucked them all up into it's gaping maw and set everyone inside it's "stomach", you could see (what I believe to be) natural light shining through it's body's soft tissue & membrane. Eventually, it got dark, and those poor souls were still trapped inside that massive beast. Trapped inside that it's tight, claustrophobia-inducing digestive tract, with 0 light coming through, is a nightmare. Those people were certainly experiencing Hell as they were being abducted, but to suffer several hours in a compact space, tightly cramped together like sardines, while being slowly digested, IN THE DARK??? I'd regret being born if that was me in there, over and over and over again.
When this first came out people were really making fun of the way jorden peele made the alien look but personally if I saw that thing flying at me I’d sh*t myself 💀
Even the store clerk named angel was foreshadowing for the design because the crew interview said the ufo was designed like some drawings of the perception of an angel, a bunch of wings spreading from I giant white light in the middle.
It's easy to criticize, but much harder to try to come up with a creative design. I think people believe aliens should look fathomable to the human mind. I feel people typically expect a humanoid and/or clear animal-like design, but something that is truly "alien" could very-well be unfathomable to our minds. (Kinda like cosmic horror, I guess.) Not saying Peele achieved this, but he definitely did a good job in my opinion. I don't think it's possible for us to create something visually unlike anything that we haven't already seen. That would be the God-level creativity.
@@zangetsu1597 Exactly. Reading your comment, I immediately thought of the alien designs from Arrival. Another example of non-traditional alien design that worked phenomenally.
@@zangetsu1597 that’s what I like about Jordan’s mind he designed an alien in a way no one els has and it really makes you think about how if aliens showed up they could literally look like ANYTHING there’s a good chance that how we see them in movies won’t be how they actually look (if you believe in that)
Even the "nope" was an integral part. Everybody hears something in the sky or a disturbance and they look at it and watch it while the protagonists went "nope" and just got tf out of there, ignored it, and survived.
The monkey scene was tied directly to the themes of the movie as it was all about "the obsession with spectacle" and the idea of a "bad miracle". The shoe was the bad miracle as it was tied directly to a tragedy but it's presence ended up saving Jupes life. As for spectacles and the obsession with them its how that obsession can turn tragic when it is craved too much (which also ties right back to Jupe and his thinking he was chosen by the beast and it in turn killed him and everyone around him".
What's a bad miracle? A spectacle. Jupe said to the audience, "I bore witness to..." but instead of the expected "a miracle" he said, "...a spectacle." It ties into the opening bible quote.
The monkey was symbolic in showing how you can’t make things a spectacle because you can’t control it. This can been seen with the horse being spooked as well
i meannnn it's kind of a paradox becauseeee technically it's still a spectacle in the sense that it happened (monkeys killing humans in captivity is rare , especially high quality footage of it).
there are two main themes that i noticed on this movie and they both get connected by the monkey story. The themes are animal mistreatment/disrespect and also the media's obsession with spectacle. Jupe processed the whole gordy thing as a spectacle and he did the same with jean jacket, which is why he died the way he did, he didn't learn his lesson. As for the shoe, it's kind of like a "bad miracle" that OJ references, which is a miracle because it saved Jupe's life, but it happened under horrible circumstances. Another banger vid from you guys
@@decirto6454 To be fair, the perspective of the shoe is from a traumatized kids point of view. So it honestly might've not been like that, but that's how he remembers it. Similar to how he internalized the monkey going for the fist bump as a way to believe he can be someone to calm/tame a wild animal even though in reality, the monkey had no idea what was going on and if it's eyes weren't covered, it most likely would've killed him too.
@@decirto6454the shoe is generally up for interpretation, I get what OP was saying that Jupe calming down and even finding amusement at the standing shoe could’ve possibly saved his life. But I saw a different explanation that I agree with more which is that shoe standing is itself a spectacle. Even with all the horror and danger around Jupe, he was still enamoured by the fact the shoe was able to stand upright amidst the chaos. It’s just another symbol to the greater theme of the movie how we can’t help but make a spectacle out of bad things.
Just found out that Logan Paul, someone who was very vocal about his opinions that nope sucked and had no meaning, apparently bought a miniature pig named pearl and later after she inevitably grew, neglected it and abandoned it and barn owners found her near death beside another dead pig. Couldn't understand, for the life of him, a movie about people attempting to use animals for clout without actually caring or trying to understand them. Or people trying to make a spectacle out of something that should be taken seriously (Japan trip 2017)
The whole movie is Jordan Peele’s criticizing and calling out on the film industry’s obsession of the spectacle to attract audiences, they do what it takes to get it even if it means to exploit animals
That prank those kids played was legit scary. I was 100% anxiety the whole time. The way they moved, the noise. All that anxiety switched to anger when they were found to just be kids lol.
Someone did that prank to me it would end the same way a punch to the face I involuntarily punch things that jump out at me it's how I react when I get scared it's why people who know me try not to do that.
A lotta people complain about non-anime reactions but I'm here for y'all. The chemistry and humor from YOU, THE REACTORS. Also shout-out to the editor for the hilarious edits here and there. Makes everything you react to, all these reactions very enjoyable to watch. This is a dope channel and I hope you grow bigger and succeed in every way. I know, it's corny to say all this lol but I had to say it.
Gordy was a violent backstory but it was still just backstory. It was to explain why Jupe felt "chosen" to tame this giant wild animal: he's been traumatized by a similar situation, where he survived and thought it was because he had a special bond with Gordy. -- OH, Sheeragan came through. 🤣👍
I absolutely loved Nope. The scene where they're inside Jean Jacket and where Jean Jacket rained blood on their house will always stay with me just pure Lovecraftian horror. Exploring the horrors of spectacle and the inability of humans to truly train predators.
I love the bookends of this film. It begins and ends with a balloon popping. It begins and ends with a series of still photographs. I also have a fondness for movies that spoil themselves. It tells you exactly what's going to happen by showing you Gordy upfront, it shows you the thing's mouth, and even that quote. Other things I dig: The inflatable waving arm men look like they're people being pulled up when they're working. The alien/megafauna/Jean Jacket looks like a giant eye when it's sideways. In the trailer, Emerald does a spin right before she says the "skin in the game" line. In the movie she does the spin (again) after defeating Jean Jacket. (I wish they'd left the first one in the movie.) I like how the Jean Jacket story explains her relationship to the family and the business. That was probably not the only promise that got broken so it makes sense that she doesn't prioritize helping out. OJ *never* gets loud and does a lot of non-verbal communication because he's around the horses all the time. (Even when he yells for Emerald to leave and it echos he doesn't sound as loud as when Emerald tells him to run earlier in the movie.)
I'm glad y'all enjoyed this movie, for whatever reason, a lot of my friends didn't really enjoy it. Maybe because the themes aren't presented in a conventional way. But I absolutely loved everything about this movie. Edit:(Also love how y'all were really invested in this movie. Like at 9:24 Lupa already notices the groundwork for what the movie is about. )
I understand no movie is for everyone but it pissed me off that a lot of the criticisms from people who didn't like the movie was blatantly wrong bs like "the monkey scene served no purpose". Makes me feel like alotta people just weren't paying attention.
ngl i didnt enjoy it first time watching and i think its because i expected a faster pace. so the surprise slow pace and the fact that i didnt get the themes kinda ticked me off. after resolving the two issues tho, i have come to like it :)
@@rightguy200000 yeh a lot of peoples critics kinda made them look like they were just being unintelligent or inattentive. They treated Jordan like he was trying hard to be cryptic and out of the box but the hate just seemed so forced
@@rightguy200000 it happens a lot these days. Like, pay attention to the dialogue, facial expressions, etc. But unfortunately, people these days have short attentions spans.
The Paul brother was the perfect example of a critic that just couldn't understand the movie and s*it out of pure ignorance and everyone clapped him for doing the same thing years ago in Japan.
The live-action Akira slide is easily one of the best cinematic moments of 2022 for me. This movie is so good and has so many layers that you learn something new every time you come back to it.
Jupe thought he had a special way with animals because of what happened with Gordy. Gordy killed or maimed everyone else, but just gave Jupe a fist bump, and the shoe standing up just added to the surrealness of the situation and made Jupe believe there was some spiritual connection there when there wasn't. The movie has a theme of control and respect. You can get horses to more or less do what you want so long as you respect their boundaries and keep them calm. The film crew at the beginning didn't respect the horse enough and ended up freaking it out. Jupe fed some horses to the monster in isolation but had absolutely no idea how it would react to a crowd of people all staring at it. He just assumed it would do what he wanted it to do because he was special, because Gordy didn't hurt him. Also, Gordy just snapped because the balloons popping on the studio lights startled it.
Jupe believed he can tame the UFO, because he thought he tamed Gordy, but the monkey was tamed because he wasn't looking at his eyes thanks to that tablecloth
I believe part of the reason Jean Jacket looks so strange when it's "spread out" is because the design is somewhat based off of an Angel from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
To help out with how the monkey scenes connects, it does relate to quote about the spectacle. the primary theme of the movie is how human society make spectacles out of everything for example the tragic accident with Gordy becoming immortalized in a SNL skit. later, we see how Jupe internalizes the incident and thus tries to do the same thing to the alien that was done to Gordy. Its why i love the only way to defeat the alien is to not look at it in the eye, thus to not partake in the spectacle itself. Also theres a lesson about animal nature. Jupe adds another great layer as being apart of the spectacle himself as a marginalized child star, SO MANY LAYERS with this one!!! Was 10/10 theater experience for me!
The message of this movie is that everybody loves a spectacle, which is why Gordy snapped and all everybody wants to do is exploit the alien, Keke’s character wanted to get a picture in the end so she could become famous
the tablecloth covered jupe’s eyes and that’s part of the reason it didn’t attack him, but he likely assumed he had some sort of special ability to connect with and tame animals only to realize he was wrong in the end
13:24 Fry's Electronics; this specific one is located in Burbank, California. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from all the major studios. The franchise closed permanently nationwide sometime during the middle of the pandemic lockdown, and was notable for the sci-fi dioramas of famous classic movie aliens, robots, and giant mutants that lined the aisles.
I JUST watched you guys’ Bullet Train movie reaction two days ago and started to wonder if you did NOPE. Kinda crazy how you all uploaded now this is perfect 😂
As far as I understand it, the cool thing about using the well camera to capture the 'Oprah shot' is that that type of old-school analog camera is near impossible to spoof
so i’ve watched this a number of times, and there’s a LOT to notice! one of my fav details is the relationship between the siblings. one is reactive and charismatic, the other subdued but disciplined. OJ was perfectly suited to train horses, but emeralds energy made the dad decide not to train her. since then she’s been fighting to prove herself and be successful in her terms, but the two are only successful with each other! she has dads charisma, and oj has dads discipline. i also think, as a pet theory, that OJ and emerald both display a lot of traits of autism and ADHD respectively. i know i’m painting in broad strokes and it’s not universally true, but kids with autism tend toward logic and rules, and adhd is connection and expression. the two represent extremes and balance each other out. i worked at a camp for kids with learning disabilities, and one of the things i loved watching is seeing the kids with autism and adhd learning to work with each other, because if you can handle an extreme, you can handle anything in between. i really love this movie and the story it tells. both of their flaws alienate them, but together they’re strengths. emerald is the only one that can bring OJ out of his shell, and OJ is the only one that makes emerald feel seen. their trust in each other was so well built! it’s a fairly straight forward movie but there are SOOO many details to notice!
@@mainstreetmafia6605 honestly! these characters were crafted with such care, and after all my years working with neurodivergent kids i couldn't not see it!
When asked about the animal touches in his film, Peele describes the use as "a reminder of how we treat anything that doesn't qualify as human” in an interview with Fox Washington DC.
There are a lot of symbolic meanings from just the standing shoe itself, there are many theories for it but my favorite one is that the shoe was quite literally the embodiment of the saying "waiting for the other shoe to drop" which means to wait for an expected and inevitable event to occur. Gordy went riot by his animal instinct because of the popping balloons, reminding us that no matter how cute looking or gentle a wild animal appears to be, it's still a wild animal. If you remember in the flashback scene another balloon (the last balloon in the room) popped when he start killing that other dude. And the moment Gordy starts sitting looking confused about what happened or what he just did, there was no other balloon that could trigger Gordy again and there was only one person left at the scene who still lives. We subconsciously expected what was gonna happen next, Jupe's going to die, but the thing is he didn't, or at least not yet so at that moment we were eager to find out what was gonna happen next, we were waiting for the other shoe to drop in the entire film just like Jupe did at that moment, to reveal us of what's gonna happen. And the shoe drops when Jean Jacket happened. We've always known that Jupe's gonna be the next victim, it was inevitable, it just didn't tell us by who or what. It's so simple and yet deep at the same time I love this film so much.
I think one of the main reason they wanted footage goes back to their ancestor who was filmed and forgotten yet the footage of him was more than famous and made many rich. He didn't get paid so the fam is trying to make sure this time they are on the other side of camera where the fame, wealth, and opportunities live!
The "Akira slide" was totally on purpose. Jean Jacket is actually based on an angel from Neon Genesis Evangelion (and how it's described). Jordan Peele is a big anime fan and makes lots of nods to them : )
Casual Geographic did a video on the real life inspiration of the monkey attack and how it relates to Nope. I'd highly recommend it. This movie was amazing to me.
Jordan Peele was in talks to direct a live action Akira, but he decided that he wanted to focus on original content and passed on the project. The slide is a nod to that.
Two things about the monkey scene 1) It's suppose to represent how our own desire to consume spectacles or what we perceive as spectacles of the out of norm often leads to our undoing 2) The show stand up drew Yeun's younger characters attention away from the ape, the Ape like the Jean jacket space ship sheet thing saw these characters as a none threat once their attention was off both spectacles (Ape or Gordy and space ship)... Gordie and the space ship for humans are seen as spectacles in this movie, if you look away from them you're out of harms way because you're no longer seeing these threats as larger forms specificals
This movie hit real for me as someone who grew up in the general area of this shit. Seeing them driving on the freeway, Agua Dulce, and shopping at Fry's Electronics, that shit drew me in for real. They really used the area in a way that's believable and I loved it
It's so funny that when they get scared in jumpscare/horror playthroughs on stream, they respond with "yeahhhhh????" instead of nope XD love the channel and the work you put into your content!!
A thing that no one really realizes is the non ufo form of Jean is inspired by biblically accurate angels , they are very similar to Jean in appearance and pele said that in this universe people mistaked these creatures for ufo’s and angels
Holy shit im so glad y’all watched this. I swear I have tough skin when it comes to stuff in movies but fuck the screaming in the sky marking where it’s at and the scene where everyone got ate still have stuck with me after watching the movie several times 💀💀💀

This movie is amazing and I love hearing the different ways people interpret some of it's imagery, like the shoe standing up, the correlation between Jean jacket and Gordy the chimp, it's just so interesting to have a movie that makes people truly think about it for days afterwards, I think even the people who hated it can take something away from it. Definitely my fave Peele project so far.
The monkey scene actually shows a perspective of the Glenn character because he didnt look the monkey in the eyes, the reason he survived the attack is because he was staring at the weird shoe like the Alien you dont look it in the eyes. Thats the whole point of the monkey part
lovely review! I love how you all discuss collectively and use ONLY context in the movie to make your own interpretation. I've seen lots of reviews on this movie because it's one of my favorite and various people forget to value the exposition and understand the incentives of characters. If you're curious, there's a guy on youtube that broke down the biology of Jean Jacket and how he is similar to some animals particularly some in the sea. Especially Jellyfish considering they engulf their meal. That would be a cool reaction. Glad you liked it!
Sheera can break down and understand movies, animes, shows so well 👏 lol she’s definitely the back bone of y’all team 😂 I had to yt the movie after watching it to understand what happened and they said the exact same thing sheera did lol love y’all ❤ my fav reaction yters 🙌 been a fan for a cool min 😂
The alien Is designed in such a way that you can’t fully tell what it is because that way you can’t give it human qualities, or a face. We, psychologically, are always trying to find the “face” of everything so we can humanize it and understand it. Things we can’t find a face to make us uneasy, confused and uncomfortable. The design of the alien is pretty smart actually.
So in regards to the monkey thing, I believe it was meant to show that when the animals are around it, they freak out and don’t know how to react to it because they can’t see it similar to fight or flight, Jupe trying to fist bump him was him trying to calm down and relax the monkey with something that it is familiar with like a dog being hugged when it’s afraid of lightning so that he wasn’t freaking out like that anymore.
I think i saw somewhere that it has to do with the fact the jupe romanticizes his trauma and because gordy didn’t kill him he thinks the alien won’t either. He thinks he is some chosen one type shit, which is just tragic. He’s definitely the best character imo.
Nah Gordy went berserk because of the balloons not JJ. What they share in common is that they were both dangerous animals treated as props and not seen or respeced for the threats that they were.
I feel like KiKi Palmer is the main character of the Film. She goes through a huge character development through the movie, from wanting to live out her dreams of being a Hollywood Star, to ending up fighting for her family's legacy. She ends up not only losing her own brother (her last family memeber, her own flesh and blood) to wanting the Oprah Shot, but she ends up "taming" (killing) Jean Jacket. You can imagine your own interpretation for what the ending showed, but I personally think OJ dies, which plays off on Emerald having to do the problem on her own, which she finally did with a huge life changing event. It's very symbolic of how she wanted to tame her horse, and she does so in the form of a giant animal in the sky. Also, if you look closely at the Jupe Balloon in JJ's mouth, you can see that the part thst popped was Jupe's finger, symbolic to how Gordy died from a gun shot to the head. God, I just love this movie so much. Definitely my favorite movie of 2022.
Nope...Signs but darker and funnier at the same time...Jordan Peele really surprise us in the right way with his projects !! It's refreshing for the horror genre !
This movie is one of my favorites!! The acting is next level…it truly felt like real people instead of a bunch of actors. The humor was so good and actually funny. Especially Keekee she was so so good in this movie. Also as someone who is interested in UFO’s or rather UAP’s this movie was soooo on point. I love how the movie transformed into different SCI fi genres as the movie went on in the same way the creature transformed as the movie went on. Also I understand the whole monkey bit now that someone explained it to me…with it having to do with humans obsession with spectacle especially violent ones and ones including wild animals under the belief that we have control but really they are wild animals/predators. All of that stuff was fine but I could have done without it or at least less of that and had more attempts at trying to catch the UFO/being on camera. Starting off as a mystery, then horror, then creature feature like jaws, then action adventure. Also they had the the footage from the camera as well as the old fashion photo in the well.
I have seen this movie 7 times, and loved it each and every time. But watching it with you guys took it to a whole new level. I am so glad I found this channel !!!
Gordy is plenty answered. Trying to train wild animals for our own human spectacle. Which Jupe continues to do. The balloons were popping from the heat of the lights on set.
Just walking in going through different reactions and just holy hell, blown AWAY by the intro for this channel. Wildly the BEST I've seen for any reaction channel. Also you guys's analysis of the movie's themes and connecting Jupe's history and everything was spot on!
This was my movie of the year 2022, though I haven't seen everything everywhere all at once yet. But man the cosmic horror stuff in this one feels like it was made for me and me alone, I loved this one
Based on the poster - which looks like a halo over his head, and the fact that the entity is rather terrifying to look upon... I can't help but think maybe it's a Biblical angel. Not the kind we're presented in most art, or modern media.
Hey guys thanks for all the content you've given us, each time hearing from the 3 of you has always made my day. And I'm grateful for finding your channel. Wish you all a good year
True. There’s just something about giant monsters eating tiny people and seeing the people perspective being digested is truly disturbing. And then screaming makes it even more creepy. My dick will shrink in terror and chills.
I remember when I saw this in theaters and how it went from alien movie to straight up monster movie. All I could think was Nope the new Jaws. I was also going, “Nope!” at different parts of the movie. It was a fun ride.
NOPE = Not Of Planet Earth. also when the alien changes form, that's an intimidation tactic that's seen with a lot of predators. once the alien saw that its "prey" was outsmarting or evading it over and over again, it decided to use a different and more threatening method. that's what the green square was. a hypnotic trick similar (sort of) to cuttlefish. i assume that form is how the alien would normally hunt in its natural habitat but since no one has ever seen anything like it, it was able to hunt just fine in its dormant state until it couldn't
People can say what they want about this movie, but what happened to that crowd (and how it was portrayed) is probably one of the single most disturbing things I have ever seen.
Awesome movie!!

IM TELLING YOU ITS HIS PREDICTIONS!!!!!!
the monkey thing isn't unanswered....it's a wild animal that Jupe thought he had a connection with.
Also the shoe grabbed Jupe's attention so he wasn't staring at the ape allowing to the ape to calm down.
@@JeshuaSquirrel brooooooooo I didn’t think about that.🤯
I knew everything else about him not learning his lesson and him considering that the standing shoe was a sign of a miracle.
But, never did I once consider that he was staring at the shoe and not Gordy

@@JeshuaSquirrel yes! Thank you for adding that, it’s one of my favorite details of the movie
Also to sort between older and newer information regarding unidentified aircrafts
I still believe the WAP "Whatchamacallit Aerial Phenomena" would have been much better
The cinematographer who sacrificed himself was earlier shown taking some medicine. Earlier in the movie he responds to "the deal of a lifetime" with "hopefully not my lifetime." The dude had a terminal illness. This was his last hurrah.
Damn, didn't even think about that
@@avamin.s me neither, I was looking around for a probable explanation for his suicide, this one seems to fit the bill, especially because he looked at his other footage disappointingly as if he could never get the perfect shot, so to end his suffering and fulfil his dream, he sacrificed himself. this is totally one of my favorite movies now
@@Russellsauce Yeah, but did they got his filming of the alien?
@@TheYvesL I'd assume so. I dont think peele'd killed him off they didn't. that would mean his suicide'd be for basically nothing
@@Russellsauce That would 100% fit the themes of the movie though. To sacrifice someone just to record a spectacle that ends up not working out.
I like that idea
It got cut up by the barb wire... Why does no one realize this?
@@HeWhoLoMeins138 Ya that was my first reaction too, its big fast and deadly but also clearly made of thin billowy material. Like a jellyfish tear a hole in it and youve seriously injured it.
Actually at that moment, OJ tried to make an agreement with Jean Jacket like he said earlier during discussion and succeeded in doing that.
I don't think animals are "showing their dominance", more like they're scared and tryna look tough
Jupe's obsession with Gordy shows how traumatized he is. Sensationalizing it was his way to cope. He really never moved on.
Right! He grew up being exploited as a child actor Hollywood, so exploiting first his trauma (charging people to visit the Gordy shrine) and then Jean Jacket is the only way he knows how to cope.
@@breezus3928 And now Jupe and the rest of his audience can cope over it in Hel- Heaven. I was going... to say Heaven.
The Gordy scene scared the shit out of me because of how realistic it is, because if you know anything about chimps, you know that they will either kill you or make you wish they did
Men get it the worst, they go for the face and the nuts. Chimps and orcas are just pure b*stards yet everyone needs them for shows.
That was actually something that happened irl u can find the call online where the woman’s friend called the police while the chimp was ripping her face apart

Yeah, it happened to a lady who had a chimpanze, she changed her haircut, and the monkey got scared or something and attacked her.
@@victor1189Fr, it made me tear up. Especially hearing the chimp screaming in the background while attackinf the lady
Great damn movie
Edit: Fun fact, Jordan Peele loves Akira and the slide was absolutely intentional
She nailed so many parts of this movie as it was happening. She even understood the significance of the chimp and Jupes reasoning for thinking he could tame Jean Jacket.

To explain Angel suddenly becoming part of the main cast. The actor was originally supposed to be there for a bit part, but Peele loved the actor's performance so much that he expanded his role to a secondary character. XD
Honestly based and I adore that Peele was like 'Okay, this character is fun, you get more screentime' lmao.

The monkey scene was tied directly to the themes of the movie as it was all about "the obsession with spectacle" and the idea of a "bad miracle". The shoe was the bad miracle as it was tied directly to a tragedy but it's presence ended up saving Jupes life. As for spectacles and the obsession with them its how that obsession can turn tragic when it is craved too much (which also ties right back to Jupe and his thinking he was chosen by the beast and it in turn killed him and everyone around him".
this
What's a bad miracle?
Wait so explain what you mean by the shoe, because I’ve always wondered why it was like that?

Gordy was a violent backstory but it was still just backstory. It was to explain why Jupe felt "chosen" to tame this giant wild animal: he's been traumatized by a similar situation, where he survived and thought it was because he had a special bond with Gordy. -- OH, Sheeragan came through. 🤣👍
i like how sheera casually correlates the gordy situation to jupe's mindset towards JJ
Lupa already sweating before the movie starts is just him being ready for the bewilderment.
I absolutely loved Nope. The scene where they're inside Jean Jacket and where Jean Jacket rained blood on their house will always stay with me just pure Lovecraftian horror. Exploring the horrors of spectacle and the inability of humans to truly train predators.
The Ape is basically a realistic parallel to what's happening in the main story and an origin to Jup explaining why he is the way he is
I love the bookends of this film.
(I wish they'd left the first one in the movie.)
I like how the Jean Jacket story explains her relationship to the family and the business. That was probably not the only promise that got broken so it makes sense that she doesn't prioritize helping out.
OJ *never* gets loud and does a lot of non-verbal communication because he's around the horses all the time. (Even when he yells for Emerald to leave and it echos he doesn't sound as loud as when Emerald tells him to run earlier in the movie.)
it also starts and ends with a shot of a frame around an image of a black man on a horse.
I'm glad y'all enjoyed this movie, for whatever reason, a lot of my friends didn't really enjoy it. Maybe because the themes aren't presented in a conventional way. But I absolutely loved everything about this movie.

Listen!! Shera’s theories come true every single time!!! 😂😂😂
Sheeragan, baby!
Except for the "egg theory" on Train to Busan
The fake alien prank from the kids had Lupa sweating 😂😂😂

I JUST watched you guys’ Bullet Train movie reaction two days ago and started to wonder if you did NOPE. Kinda crazy how you all uploaded now this is perfect 😂
As far as I understand it, the cool thing about using the well camera to capture the 'Oprah shot' is that that type of old-school analog camera is near impossible to spoof
yep, and the fact the jupe balloon can be seen in it also means they have a reference for scale.
so i’ve watched this a number of times, and there’s a LOT to notice! one of my fav details is the relationship between the siblings. one is reactive and charismatic, the other subdued but disciplined.
OJ's aversion to eye contact too, if he was written as autistic it might be the best depiction of it I've ever seen
@@mainstreetmafia6605 honestly! these characters were crafted with such care, and after all my years working with neurodivergent kids i couldn't not see it!
I'm sorry but the duality of everybody getting demolished by Gordy and Roshi just focusing on the lady's shoes ended me. And all of them. And Gordy.
considering that jupe staring at the shoe instead of gordy was part of what helped save him it actually works really well. lol
When asked about the animal touches in his film, Peele describes the use as "a reminder of how we treat anything that doesn't qualify as human” in an interview with Fox Washington DC.
41:39 “What am I looking at?” - literally all of us at that exact moment 😂
You know it's gonna be a fire reaction when Lupa is already sweating in the first minute.
I like how in 17:00 we see Lupasan face is completely dry, but after that whole scare he was sweating bullets
Jordan Peele is a big anime fan and makes lots of nods to them : )
The subtle little Easter eggs in the movie is so good! Like the UFO on the back of the jacket
Two things about the monkey scene
1) It's suppose to represent how our own desire to consume spectacles or what we perceive as spectacles of the out of norm often leads to our undoing
2) The show stand up drew Yeun's younger characters attention away from the ape, the Ape like the Jean jacket space ship sheet thing saw these characters as a none threat once their attention was off both spectacles (Ape or Gordy and space ship)... Gordie and the space ship for humans are seen as spectacles in this movie, if you look away from them you're out of harms way because you're no longer seeing these threats as larger forms specificals
See Sheera's take on the whole monkey thing makes a lot more sense because I was genuinely upset that they never explained it and it left me confused.
This movie hit real for me as someone who grew up in the general area of this shit. Seeing them driving on the freeway, Agua Dulce, and shopping at Fry's Electronics, that shit drew me in for real. They really used the area in a way that's believable and I loved it

A thing that no one really realizes is the non ufo form of Jean is inspired by biblically accurate angels , they are very similar to Jean in appearance and pele said that in this universe people mistaked these creatures for ufo’s and angels

30:22 I'm dying. I've replayed this like 5 times. Here's a timestamp for those who also wanna keep seeing that 😂 great reaction y'all. I wish i saw this in theaters but sadly i had to miss it but it was still a wild ride
My second favourite Jordan Peele movie right after Get Out.
Nope is a fun ride with a deep message hidden in-between the lines.
Speaking of Steven Yeun. I think, according to an Instagram and twitter post, an Invincible season 2 trailer should come this month or next month
@@Nini-kc5ss That actually makes a lot of sense for why he was so interested in the props from the show and why he had them on literal pedestals.
@@BronyGaming-or8kv yea, i think that shows how he idolizes the event, which is just such a unique way of showing his style of coping.
Nice. This was definitely my favourite movie of 2022. Awesome to see you guys react to it.
This is such a good movie !! So happy y’all reacted to it
Hope you guys are good, I’m seeing COVID symptoms guys.
Lupasan drenched in Sweat like y’all just finished Water boarding him at the beginning of the reaction before actually reacting 🤣🤣🤣
Lupa sweating bullets when y'all got to the first scene with the "aliens" had me dyin. That scene always gets everyone on the first watch 🤣
Hey guys thanks for all the content you've given us, each time hearing from the 3 of you has always made my day. And I'm grateful for finding your channel. Wish you all a good year
26:17 one of the most disturbing scenes ever
Wait till you see the real irl victim
@@yeeeze7461 been saw it
Surprise kaiju films are the best kaiju films. lol
36:29 THAT SCREAM SOUNDED HEAVENLY????
NOPE = Not Of Planet Earth. also when the alien changes form, that's an intimidation tactic that's seen with a lot of predators. once the alien saw that its "prey" was outsmarting or evading it over and over again, it decided to use a different and more threatening method. that's what the green square was. a hypnotic trick similar (sort of) to cuttlefish. i assume that form is how the alien would normally hunt in its natural habitat but since no one has ever seen anything like it, it was able to hunt just fine in its dormant state until it couldn't
Lupa: “This is actually sucking me in.”
Me: Good choice of words
The digestion scene is the most terrifying scene I’ve ever watched in the movie
That digestion scene on IMAX still haunts me
People can say what they want about this movie, but what happened to that crowd (and how it was portrayed) is probably one of the single most disturbing things I have ever seen.
