one of the best movies this year!
Netflix has a blooper video for the movie
100% agree! From the cinematography, the writing, the acting, the music, the sets/clothing/hair etc, whoever was in charge of creating the chaotic melting pot of eras aesthetic (the 1970’s, present day, futuristic, 2000’s, 90’s), AND OF COURSE THE ACTING!
Jamie Foxx killed it though that is no surprise. Teyonah Paris absolutely murdered this role! Being able to not only keep up with Jamie Foxx but also stand out is really some crazy talent.
The commentary in this movie was insane
If you guys liked this ya’ll neeeeddd to watch Sorry to Bother You!!!
That chicken was a shot at Popeyes chicken sandwich for sure, had black folks going crazyyyyyyyyyy!
Frog is like a human version of the Cheshire cat in "Alice in Wonderland." Always speaking in riddles and leaving little clues lol
Think hes the old wise fool trope aswell
"Niggler" needs to be the official trope name now.
This reminded me of the MKUltra shit the government was doing
everything he says tho is so accurate its in the air its on youre head its under your head
What messed me up was that Tyrone had his own counterpart homeless wino, and I wondered if that was just for a little sight gag or if that was a lore Easter egg.
Not to reach, but I see in his character commentary on how invisible the homeless are, which is how they see a lot of shit and because they’re often dealing with mental health challenges, that info is locked up in maze.
Sheera was on some 4d plane of existence this time. All her callouts were on point point
Its scary yo i said this! She had a long track record of it too.
She’s definitely the most perceptive of the three. Always paying attention to detail.
😕
Glad this movie is getting traction. This movie was buried by UA-cam, NONE of the usual movie reviewers nor reactors touched this shit. It def deserves the acclaim
LEGIT, I was literally tryna search for more reactions to this and the first result that popped up is their reaction lol
Same thing happened with Nope!
It's because they pushed the release date back. This was supposed to come out last December. The hype died down
@@mentlinc fr nope was is a damn classic
This feels like it would've been perfect for a Boondocks special.
they already got the chicken part lowkey
“Not black eye witness man, I HATE black eyewitness man!”
They actually did cloning in Boondocks with Stinkmeaner. Remember his hatred was so strong that Ed Wuncler funded in cloning him because his beef with Robert is so profitable.
@@BlackBaudelaire And that episode where they made perm out of like an explosive 😂
Uncle Ruckus would hate this movie... except for the music on the club scene DJ's playlist.
I was worried nobody was gonna react to this! It's such a good movie!
Same! I’ve been scouring youtube for reviews bc it’s soooo good and really makes u think 🧐
Same! I'm hoping that @YaBoyRoshi is just ahead of the curve and that many more reactions will follow!
Most folks reacting will be black folks because anytime a film that comes out that's not white centric most Caucasian reactors won't watch. Sad but this is the society we live in. Plenty of good black films that been out for years that don't get the recognition it should
26:55 They didn’t catch that the church was doing a rendition of “Back that Ass up” by Juvenile and that’s arguably the most hilarious part of the movie 😭
I was like how did they not catch that?😂 Especially with the way those people was getting down in church lol. Reminds me of the Ginuwine song Kanye had a rendition of when he was doing sermons in the wild. I never trusted that. Like how you turn a sexualized song into a gospel? 😂
I was sitting here thinking .. they don’t hear that 😂
I ain't catch that either. Shame there's no lyrics lol
Because they were too busy talking 😅
I’m loving this whole Afro-surrealism movement going on at the moment. Would highly recommend “Sorry to bother you” if you enjoyed this.
I know they either mentioned watching it either on a stream or in another show/movie reaction. So they did see it already.
No one talks about STBY and it pisses me off! It was so good and funny lol and bizarre
the whole soundtrack for this movie was so good too. i don't know if y'all caught it, but the ending song was "Tyrone" by Erykah Badu, but they got her to make a version called "They Cloned Tyrone". this movie is an INSTANT classic.

I'm with Sheera, I think Frog was an old Fontaine that took the "just do nothing and keep playing your role" option after figuring everything out
Fun Fact : He's a Tuskegee survivor in real life 💁🏾♀️
@@straightdrpp5668 WOW
I don't think he's fontaine exactly, but I agree I think he found out and they gave him the same option. So now he just drinks the days away. So many incredible little details.
@@mollywopper22he wasn’t saying he was literally fontane but he found out everything just like fontane did
@@ReallyVic oh aight. misunderstood. I think they did at first that's why it was in my head. They being roshi/sheera/lupa.
Probably the best film that came out on Netflix all year. The plot, story, performances, cinematography, score and soundtrack were all excellent. 8/10 film for me, low-key wouldn't mind seeing a sequel of some sort in the future.
One of the best black movie to come out of Netflix…yes!
We really need 2 movie sequels to the movie, it was freaking amazing
@@spartan1142 That would be dope
@@spartan1142 They could legit have Tyrone who shows up at the end be the main protagonist for the first half of the sequel, it could be him figuring shit out about him being a clone but the last half of the sequel could have Slick, Fontaine and Yo-Yo could show up in LA, finding Tyrone and help him find LA's underground facility.
Loved this movie but no reason for it to have a sequel. The story's been told
I need to see John Boyega in more things ASAP. He definitely has future GOAT energy.
if Jonathan Majors goes to jail, Marvel should cast John Boyega as Kang
@@DelusionalNYChe’s already talking about returning to Star Wars so I doubt it
@@Echo-nn8dt
Really hope he ain't gonna get stiffed again
Its crazy just how badly star wars misused his talents... every movie he's in just shows how disney fucked it up.
he is sucks, as a man and as an actor
LOL The script for this film is god tier. So many funny lines. Plot wise, this is actually pretty scary because the US Govt pretty much views all of us like this. Nothing more than cows to be farmed, manipulated, and milked for taxes -- funding they can then use for more shady shit.
39:19 this scene was heart wrenching to watch. He already knew his life wasn’t real, but to see how deep the rabbit hole was by opening that door and nothing but a voice recorder in there. Even worse, that’s probably the cleanest part of the house; you can see how beat up the outer side of the door is compared to the actual room. Nothing in his life was truly real, great movie.
This movie really messed with my head😂 I’m glad you guys watched it❤️🔥
I once read the book called "1984", and I learned that not only was it about the main character in a colorless hellish world, but rather about the story of that only character who is built different from everyone (at each place) that worship a totalitarian government called "Big Brother". So I would say that this movie has a small amount of reference to that book, but it was not all about clones and stuff like that. Question: Has anyone else ever read that book "1984"?
@@paulwilson2628we read 1984 in school it was crazy
I’ve heard of it but never read it. Gonna start soon though
y’all are soo damn over dramatic.
yep it’s the book for my eng essay 😒
This could be a reach, but I just realized that in the beginning when the kid is talking about SpongeBob, he’s specifically referring to the episode where Patrick started copying SpongeBob’s entire aesthetic (i.e. became his clone) in order to achieve success. 🤯
Oh snap! 😳
Nah I think it's the ep where Patrick gets a job at the krusty krab and he's answering the phone
@@desireewhatever3138yeah- OP was stretching like a mug 😅
@@desireewhatever3138that’s the same episode
The “gang gang ice cream so good” fucked me up I forgot they be adding audio over clips sometimes 🤣
I WAS SO CONFUSED
Omg I was like was that girl in the movieee??😩😭
OH OKAY I THOUGHT I WAS LOSING MY SHIT 😭
I think the reason why it feels so retro despite having modern things like crypto and Apple Pay is because they keep reusing the same memories for all the new clones and as we saw the og Fontaine was old af so if the memories are from his time then it would explain why everything’s seems old but they are also being influenced by the outside world so it’s merged together in a way.
I hope that made sense but that was kind of my theory about it.
omg I think your right
Right, when I saw previews I thought it was a 70’s film lol
At the end we see why.
A grieving man who dealt with grief by calling up his favorite shadow gov
“What year is this production going to take place?”
“This century”
“Which decade?”
“Yes”
The movie was freaking awesome, crazy how they give it a 6/10 when it's easily a 9/10
Who?!? Let me guess ign
certain "folks"
Who is "they"?
This giving me SECRET INVASION vibes right now 😂😅
Who is they?
Cloning a mf and naming the clone Chester is some evil shit
Not to be that person, but I'm going to be that person!!! I've always wanted to see what some black interpretation of certain genres would look like. I hope there's a zombie apocalypse through (for lack of a better phrase) a black culture-lense. I really want to see a zombie apocalypse set in an "urban" setting. Jordan Peele has been doing his thing with his projects, so I'm excited to see more from the spectrum of "black interpretation (again for lack of a better phrase).
You know what I've never seen that'd be interesting? Black High Fantasy. Swords and magic and imaginary creatures. I feel like that could be really cool and different.
Nah a high budget zombie apocalypse Jordan Peele film is bound to be a blast.
Kinda hate you for making me want to see something that'll never happen.
@@gregwillson7952right?!
@@X3MAnticsI’m sorry😂😂but Lord would it be amazing?!
I 100% agree with this
It's a mixture of an ode to blaxploitation as well as sci-fi and afro-surrealism. they (i believe teyona) confirmed that the film takes place "outside of time" though its vaguely modern, which is how they're able to pull everything together. the characters' mixture of intelligence and hijinks along with the set design and costuming really help as well.
Also known as "Anachronism Stew". Which depending on place and location can occasionally be a surprisingly realistic trope. The retrofuturistic aspects are really grounded in this film. Minus the plot, clothes, old school gear, everything else is very much mirroring the present.
Remember the KFC commercial with black people dancing with chicken? That really happened.
54:57 did y'all notice the LA version of Frog did not serve as an oracle to Tyrone? He had no cautions or wisdom to impart.
Yep. And LA is still Modern.
The soundtrack and visuals to this movie were AMAZING!
This movie is something else 🍿
Was that soulfoul vocalizing from a song? It sounds amazing. Is there a genre just for that? I mean after Fontaine gets shot
When “Back that azz up” started playing in church music, that shi had me CACKLING😂😂😂
This movie was so damned good. Every little thing had meaning. I'm so glad to see more films like this on the come up. The Blackening was hilarious too!
The movie is a callback to old Blaxploitation films combined with references to science fiction, music, and real-world conspiracies. It's basically like a combination of Black Dynamite, Get Out and The Boondocks.
This movie was amazing from beginning to the very end. Even having Erykah badu singing Call Tyrone during credits
Actually the director said that he was able to get Badu to re-record certain parts of the song to say cloned Tyrone 👍🏽
@@AnaAcuraErica that makes sense bcus when she sung the song it was different from the original u could tell it was partly live
I was looking for this. I was bout to turn it off until I realized the lyrics were different.
I loved how Lupa was so worried about the time era for like half the movie
Only thing y'all missed was the commentary on Black women and how Black women (and sex workers) are of no concern to anybody. Like, nobody gives af about us.
-
Also, the actor playing Isaac plays Lil Murda on P-Valley and he honestly deserves an Emmy nom. He's an AMAZING actor!
I got a couple of theories now
1: Frog said you got that new car smell cause he used to be friends with the old Fontaine and keeps seeing him return to the same age for decades so that's how he knows and why he's still human cause of their previous friendship.
2: This movie is a prequel cause Tyrone is at the end so now we gotta follow Tyrone for the sequel.
Lupa: "What year is this?...."
Me: "poverty lupa...the year is poverty"
The story takes place in a retrofuturistic setting.
I liked that they kept the time ambiguous
I didn't even notice till this video LMAO.
I like it too, but man my sis, her friend, & I kept guessing what time period were we in from what they've been saying 😂
@@artkxd8290no fr
I kinda pinned it as an alternate 2018 or so. Felt right lol
I love the cinematography in the scene where Fontaine is talking to his original. They were literally on opposite ends of the spectrum.
@yaboyRoshi The funniest part of this movie is we don’t see Tyrone until literally the end of the movie. 😅 I was like who this Fontaine guy.
jamie foxx and teyonah characters dialogue is my favorite part of this movie
I was surprised at how much I loved this movie! A lot of reviewers are nitpicking this movie, but I just turned it on with no expectations, and I was blown away. Can't believe this is the director's first movie
During the church scene the organ player actually starts to play" Back that A$$ up" 😂
they were playing "YOU A FINE MOFO WONT YOU BACK THAT ASS UP" in the church scene
I never picked this up watching it but i think Slick and Fontaine look like they stuck in the 70s because theyve been getting produced since the 70s and they just mever updated the model
Holy shoot that makes sense haha
The "gang gang" @ 9:14 was hilarious 😂
I love how Sheera called the Mom part lol. Sheerangan Eyes going crazy as always.
This movie telling everyone a whole story about themselves
I just noticed in the church scene, the music that was playing, was Juvenile's "Back Dat Ass Up" 🤣🤣🤣
Bruh...the time period of this movie didn't even cross my mind when I watched this...now ya'll got me wondering to.🤣🤣🤣
Yow how you be talking about clones transitioning from black to white, reminds me of the joke they made in the beginning of the movie about Mj. This is lit y'all
The part with the Chicken is a message for what happened with that Popeyes chicken sandwich. People was killing one another for it and don’t nobody understand why but people kept saying it was something in that chicken.
Loved this movie, the scene where the man started using commands reminded me of Bioshock for some reason
Maybe cause one of the characters us literally named Fontaine.
Would you kindly try to recall why it reminds you of Bioshock
They got Erykah Badu to remix "Tyrone" for this movie. You hear the song at the end credits.
Glad yall watched this and showed it to your audience. Not enough people are talking about it

Based on hella actual events throughout American history. Still gettin experimented on til this day.
Erykah Badu re-doing her song Tyrone for this movie was a great touch!
I feel like there was a plot hole with the "Olympia Black" command other than that great film. Also to answer Sheera's question about "Why can't they do the reverse?" at the assimilation part, "Get out" was the whole premise of that question.
Look up the author and you'll see the types of books she has written. It ties in to the theme of the movie.
Surprised yall didn't notice that was David Allen Grier in a Frederick Douglas wig in that church 😂😂 Along with the altered version of Erykah Badu's song. She's singing "They cloned, Tyrone" - this movie is great lol.
This movie is too good, sad its getting lost in the strikes & Barbieheimer craze but glad yall watched it!
Yall missed the song in the church scene was Back that Azz up which is just too funny to me, had me cryin laughing when I recognized it
Side note, but those chicken commercials reminded my of General’s Fried Chicken from Undercover Brother, 😂.
Might just be me, but the fact that Fontaine didn't actually have a mother makes me wonder if Yo-Yo really had a grandmother.
Well yo yo isnt a clone so its very likely that her grandma is actually real lol
This had such a special old time feel mixed with modern times. Shit was on point
Y'all missed Erykah Badu singing they dun cloned Tyrone at the end 😂
This movie was insane! Reminded me of a grittier Undercover Brother. Also, i had to keep rewinding the church scene to realize they were dancing to Back that azz up.
I knew the intro when the song first started but couldn't make the connection when I first heard it, I had to rewind it. 😂
I knew immediately what it was when I heard it I just wasn't completely sure until the church folk got down lol
This movie high key just revealed how the devil gets to people nowadays for those that peeped it you know
One of the best movies of the year. I hope more creative movies like these are made.
Bro the movie was already great and funny, but with them reacting to this makes it 100x funnier 🤣 😂
W Reaction 🔥
This movie so ill in so many ways... the comedy, the aesthetic, the subject matter, the actin. Elite in every way
Genius audio editing, "gang gang ice cream so good" I almost wish that was in the actual movie. Salute editor on that.
I don’t think frog is drinking his days away. I think he caught on, and the only way for him to get the message out was for him to become a drunk talking “bullshit”. He probably noticed that other people who noticed went missing, so he hid in plain sight. Even if he ways drinking his days away, he was still giving you the answers everyday, you just had to listen.
I think part of the whole thing with the ending with there being an LA version of Tyrone (and probably other versions of him too) is that even though we all live in different places, we all know a nigga like Tyrone. The block boys, and drug dealers.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one confused about what year this was set in. That had to be a conscious decision by the writer/director to throw the viewer off
Probably one of the most interesting mystery movies I’ve seen.
Hope they make a sequel or a film in this universe.
The chicken stuff was also a reference to Undercover Brother, where there was a conspiracy to put mind control stuff into the general's fried chicken.
Literally the whole time while watching this movie my brain was trying to pinpoint the timeframe. It was literally messing with me. lol
This movie reminds me of Undercover Brother, Get Out, and The Trueman Show all put together.
Dope reaction as always. I was a little disappointed no one recognized Sutherland tho but ig not everyone grew up on 24 😂
Yeah sad I watched the movie only because of him and ended up liking the movie
The writing ✍️ for this film is peak … and the acting 🎭 is beyond elite !!! Bravo 👏🏽 11/10 !!!
Me and my boyfriend literally just finished watching this movie a couple of minutes ago 💀
Deserves an Oscar, all categories, movie is epic! Best actor ! Best supporting actor! Best Supporting actress! Director
9:16 is too funny😭😭😭. I had to go back to check if that AI NPC soundbite was in the actual movie. Editor GOATED as usual💯
Am I the only one who heard “gang gang, ice cream so good.” At 9:19 😂
Perfect example on how the Church is so deceptive.
They also played "Back That AZZ Up" by Juvenile in the church scene. A year or so ago, they used Juvy and Manny to remake that song to get people vaccinated for the Rona, it's called "Vax That AZZ Up"...
This whole movie is a message.
20:09 im glad im not the only one who pieced that together so quick.....
And im not talking about the chicken.....BUT I AM TALKING ABOUT CHICKEN
So we smooth past the fact that they play a cover of Back that Azz Up during the church sermon
It was like afro Sci fi with a early 2000 flavor in a southern setting topped with a message meets horror flick 😅
I think it's so dope where black cinema has gone and is going !?
We have so many choices now

MY REVIEW:
I'm not even gonna lie this is one of the best movies I've ever watched. This is also one of the very few movies I've ever watched that I've rewatched so many times in such a short space of time and still be captivated and refreshed. The way the roles of Slick Charles, Yo Yo and Fontaine were executed was nothing short of impeccable. Many movies try to make interesting story-lines but overcommit to certain themes, or certain characters and their lives and it creates a branch off/ detour or extra story/stories within the main storyline which in my opinion can be overwhelming as the viewer because then you're left with soo much to digest and so many emotions to process and it exhausts me.
But this movie unlike so many others has a genius way of balancing everything. Not too much details in the storyline but providing plenty of details in the execution of the storyline for e.g the environment, fashion, music choices, sequence of how things unfold etc. which enhanced the movie even more.
It also doesn't try to place an over-emphasis on getting to know the character but instead emphasis was placed on the way these characters were executed in terms of their mannerisms, body language and personalities which left me captivated continuosly. It also kept a pretty clear and consistent theme that was easy to follow. It was just a steady flow of captivating entertainment that leaves you fully engaged. One of the most efficient movies I've ever scene. No wastages, no filler scenes, no plot holes, everything perfectly meshed.
That “Ice cream so good” edit at 9:17 took me out🤣🤣🤣🤣
It was the “gang gang” that did it for me😭
I love your movie reactions, especially for those I probably won’t see myself.
