First and foremost, we typically don't absorb nutrients in supplements the same way we absorb them when they’re found in whole foods. When we eat real food, we’re not consuming single nutrients, but rather a range of vitamins, trace minerals, enzymes, and proteins that work synergistically in our bodies. How well you absorb a given supplement depends on its quality, your personal diet, gut health, and more, so it’s nearly impossible to put a number on how much of any given supplement is used and how much is flushed out as waste.
This topic raises another key concern with supplements: lack of research and regulation. Although the FDA technically “regulates” dietary supplements, no clinical research, approval, or notification is required for a company to start selling a supplement. Unless a brand provides third party reports, consumers have no guarantee that the supplement they’re using actually contains what it says. Similarly, consumers have to trust that their supplements aren’t contaminated with toxins, heavy metals, or filler materials. While foods may have varying levels of nutrients, eating a variety of whole, plant-based foods ensures you’re getting plenty of nutrients with little risk of “overdosing” on any one vitamin.
While many people overestimate the positive impact a supplement will have, it’s also imperative to mention the danger of underestimating the power of a supplement’s active ingredients. Just because something is “natural,” does not mean it’s safe for everyone. For example, Vitamin E and gingko can both thin the blood, and St. John's Wort (a common herbal supplement) makes medications for HIV/AIDS, heart disease, depression, organ transplants, and birth control less effective, which can have serious results.
The Benefits of Eating Whole Foods
The word “supplement” itself describes how we should think of them - supplementary to a healthy, whole food diet. A supplement may help fill nutritional gaps, especially for those with medical conditions and dietary restrictions. However, getting the majority of our nutritional intake from real food comes with many benefits.
      1. Optimal Nutrient Absorption
As mentioned above, nearly all foods have more than one vitamin, mineral, or enzyme. “Food synergy” is the concept that a food’s overall effect on our body is greater than or different from the isolated actions of the individual vitamins, proteins, fats, etc. that make up the food. Real, whole foods contain a wide variety of nutrients we need, often paired with other compounds that help our bodies use them efficiently.

You never cease to AMAZE me with the depth and breadth of your content . Hallelujah that you share this knowledge with the wider world as quite frankly your “run of the mill” local doctor is on “pharma frequency “ and no where near connecting the dots of diet and disease. Some doctors don’t even know what functional medicine is and treat this understanding as if it was Mumbo-jumbo. That’s the feedback I got last week when I asked to be tested for leaky gut. I was evidently knocking on the wrong door.

Carnivore with certain veggies improved my eyesight. I eliminated gluten and grains and sugar. But it takes time, I noticed the improvement after 4 or 5 months. So one has to be patient. You ve got to be strict for a few months. I still do dairy but raw and fermented.

Thank you so much for the information on gluten and eye diseases. I was diagnosed with Occular Hypertension in my eyes (borderline glaucoma). The Opthalmologist wanted to perform surgery to reduce the pressure. Could this be gluten induced and which condition would it fall under considering the descriptions of the various eye conditions you gave? When I don’t eat gluten it seems to reduce the pressure/pain in my eyes and also reduces the migraines and stiffness in my neck. Is there any link between ocular hypertension and gluten consumption please?

My x wife she loves bread at 40s old she developed hypothyroidism and went on levothyroxine.
At 42, she jumped from 25-to 175 of levothyroxine.
She wake up one morning and I was in the kitchen already washing dishes.
She said to me , I don’t want to have sex with you or any man.
I was shocked because I had not done or talked about sex in over a month.
After she said that I can remember she changed. The sweet nice loving wife, was gone.
I waited for years for her to return, I was thinking that she was in pre-menopause. Or something like that, but he Doctor said her blood test was normal.
so, 2 more years, she was extremely irritated, constipated, negative heavy menstrual cycles, argumentative, and I started catching her lying.
She was a total different woman, one I simply could not talk to her without her getting angry, over any even very simple things.
In a nutshell, I believe she changed to a narcissistic psychopath.
She became a nightmare to deal with, and she has ruined our family and friends.
Because, of her diseased, I lost my wonderful wife.

It kind of funny coming across this video today I’ve seen some of your other videos about celiac and rice wheats etc because I ate some rice based macaroni and cheese yesterday and today I could hardly see very blurry rubbing my eyes all day I could hardly read my phone and I have 20/20 vision normally. My son is 6 and has been getting headaches like me and his teacher mentions he shows signs of poor vision sometimes we went to an eye doctor and tested at 20/20 no need for glasses which my wife was upset but I prepared her because I dealt with the same issues my whole life occasionally I just can’t see correctly and tried to prepare her for the truth that he’s like me and could be from diet issues and that’s what the optometrist said that her son deals with occasional blurry vision from low blood sugars later in the day at school. I had mentioned they most likely will find he’s got 20/20 and it’s most likely from his diet. He shows signs of early fibromyalgia he gets restless legs and tells me his legs feel weird and has to move them around which he’s more then likely wheat and grain intolerant. This video is invaluable to me because it helps me to educate my family on the unfortunate likelihood we will all suffer from eating grass foods. I had a doctor onetime tell me he thinks I deal with Reiters syndrome I’ve kind of forgot about it that was 15 20 years ago I’ll have to revisit that, thank you.

@@alli65b58 is it possible to have a life long magnesium deficiency? I’ve had fibromyalgia pretty much my whole life I’ve always been allergic to wheat just didn’t realize until couple years ago finally found the strength to change my diet last year I feel tremendously better but the fibromyalgia remains chronically fatigued as well. I may be chronically deficiency wheat allergy took a serious toll on me. My gut health is still poor

Requires a bachelor's degree in any field but there are post Bachelorette programs that can take a full year if you have basic math but no bio chemistry. Then it's 4 years after that. If you have a science bachelor's already, it will take less time.

    • @maricamaas2326

Yes, and the temporary reaction could eventually induce chronic inflammation. You might benefit from implementing various methods of detoxification; as well as supplementing with BVits and Milk Thistle to support the liver; and especially from boosting Vit C intake, since it's a natural antihistamine.

Vit C works in unison with, and therefore spares Glutathione. For women a fair dosage during recovery is 70mg Vit C/kg bodyweight p.d. (for men it's 90mg/kg), with the dosage divided through the day. (However not too late, since it energizes one, and can interfere with sleep.) Sodium Ascorbate is said to be a good choice, especially since Sodium assists in Vit C absorption and helps to keep it functional within the body. Interesting to note how - in turn - Vit C assists in absorption of Iron.
