One of San Diego's hidden gems is Palomar Mountain from snow during the winter to lush green trails during the Summer & Spring. Palomar Mountain makes you feels as if you’re in Central CA with the large trees and super-fresh air. This is a great place to escape for the day. Palomar Mountain is notably the highest point in all of San Diego at approximately 6,140 feet above the sea. It is filled with dense pine, big cone Douglas fir forest and ferny meadows which contribute to its Sierra- Nevada like atmosphere.
Sitting above 5,000 feet above Sea Level, Palomar Mountain offers the only area within driving range with measurable snow in San Diego during the Winter months. Here at Palomar Mountain you can go play in the snow, ride your snow sleds and have snowball fights!! Please be respectful to the residents and habitat when you are playing in the snow.
The drive up to PALOMAR MOUNTAIN can make you feel that you are in a movie. Wintertime is lovely. Lots of fog, cool weather and barely any people on the trails. The drive may be a little scary, but it’s also surreal.
Palomar Mountain offers the best hiking trails for everyone, whatever the weather. The beautiful forests, the mountain meadow, the wildflowers and the spectacular trail views make the expedition a memorable experience. Some of the trails covered are Boucher Hill Trail, Adams Trail, Baptist Trail, Weir Trail, Upper French Valley Trail, Doan Valley Campground, Thunder Spring Trail, Chimney Flat Trail, and Silvercrest Trail.

Cell phone coverage is spotty at best in the park as well as on the entire mountain. If you're desperate for cell phone coverage, go to Boucher Summit (site of the fire tower and lookout) or Silvercrest Picnic Area. Here's a map.
Note that there are no gas stations on Palomar Mountain.
Unless you're driving a rugged vehicle, it's best not to attempt to come up Nate Harrison Grade because its condition is unpredictable, especially during the rainy season.
Bring cash or check. The park doesn't take credit cards, and the nearest ATM is 4 miles back. If you have to self register, note that the entrance fee for day use is $8.00 per vehicle.
Check weather conditions and come prepared.
*Bad Weather: Please check road conditions before you drive up. Chains may be required in snow.

Thank you... it was fun.... there's only two areas in San Diego county to see snow depending upon the elevation.. One is Palomar and the other is Mount Laguna...

This is only one of MANY places in San Diego that get Snow. The Laguna Mountains get the most, Cuyamaca mountains the second most, Julian gets quite a bit, and all the mountains in between from the border to Mount Palomar..

Concur, we were just up at Mount Laguna yesterday and captured video and we’re going back again. Tomorrow video will be coming up either tomorrow night or Sunday of Mount Laguna .

Wow, more snow than where I went in my last video! And I see you have a great taste in music as well (I used the same music in my video LOL).

Palomar normally has more snow since it’s at a higher elevation at 5,000 feet. We’ve never been to Mount Laguna. Thank you for taking us there. I’m paying more attention to the music just like in my last two videos at South Coast Plaza, and the San Diego Lunar New Year celebration at City Heights in Little Saigon

Thank you for watching... Here's one of the web cam links for Mt Palomar www.see.cam/us/ca/crestline/palomar-mountain. I recommend calling (760) 742-3496
Palomar Mtn. General Store and ask the staff... When we went we mainly hung around the general store area.
For Mount Laguna I recommend going to lagunamountain.com and halfway down on the page you can access Mt Laguna's realtime webcam... If you haven't done so check out the Mt Laguna video....

Carmen, have fun if you go... both Palomar and Mt Laguna have limited bathroom facilities and access to gas is limited as well...
