  • 30th January 1965: No "Match of the Day" broadcast due to the coverage of Winston Churchill's funeral.
6th February 1965: With no League program the previous week "Match of the Day" returns with the stand out game of the weekend - Manchester United's visit to White Hart Lane against Tottenham Hotspur. Following a dip in form United have dropped to 3rd in the First Division while Spurs are one place below in 4th still well a drift of the League leaders Leeds and Chelsea. With the game taking place on the anniversary of the Munich air crash just seven years before both sides are wearing black arm bands.

I was there, I watched this game with my Ol' Dad. The crowd was too big and I was put on everyones shoulders and heads to get on to the pitch to avoid being crushed. I watched it crouched on the sidelines.

Lovely to watch this even though my team lost, Spurs were the better team on the day as Mr Barnes Great game by Norbert Stiles best I have seen him play, RIP Nobby a proper Manchester lad who went to St Pats our local Catholic School, all my mothers family attended.

Great to see so many excellent players on the pitch. However, Spurs pitches were quite dreadful in terms of playing conditions, particularly when it came to late autumn. Indeed, even by April, the White Hart Lane pitch still looked like a muddy and rain sodden field. Things wouldn’t dramatically improve until the late 70’s.

Wow that took me back!! It was Henry's one and only goal for Spurs. MOTD has changed out of all recognition. No action replays, no off side lines, no interviews with the managers, no studio setting.

He was still really young then - his talent was obvious but he hadn't matured physically or as a player. A bit like Ronaldo between about 2003 and 2005

The match programme listed the other matches being played. Each match had a letter attached to it. You would need the programme to find out the halftime scores.
