This is so much better than Come on Eileen IMO
You could not be more right!
Very much so 👍
What a fucking monumental sound. Fucking great. Back in the day when the UK gave the world great music.
Just a masterpiece, the most unique talented band we’ve had the pleasure of listening to, take me back to the early 80’s.
40 odd years later and I'm still dancing to this classic - love it
Me n all kid, sadly whilst doing chores
Where did that time go....but totally agree 👍
Keep dancing x
its kin mint innit
Me too a classic 👌
i was at a french scooter rally , and the DJ started his set with this , followed by shout to the top, style council, and then gil scott heron , the bottle , man id died and gone to heaven...... magic........
just who are the young soul rebels!!!!
This song is better then geno, and that was a classic.
Nothing is better than Geno!!
Nothing is better than geno!
Im 16 and quite simply want to know why music like this isn't made anymore ? Love Dexys midnight runners
mad that you’re 24 now, hopefully life is going well
@@jackrock2841 Make that 25 ...
Now you have to form a band.
blame technology and lack of fresh ideas
I‘m 16 years old too!!
I was a young soul rebel, I’m just a soul rebel now but I still love this!
My FAVE dexys song . I,m 61 ! and have loved em since they started!
Ditto!
One of their lesser known hits but their best one imo..
This video, for me, always epitomises what the original Dexys were all about. This film should be in a museum because of it's importance.
This was on the turntable almost 24/7 when I bought it in 1981. Australia was a long ship trip for delivery of records. Played it on repeat all the time for many years. Have two vinyl copies, a young soul rebels t shirt which I got back then I’ve had to replace. It’s a masterpiece and I just found out it’s in the 1000 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. At least they have taste.
I booked DMR to play my Students Union Glasgow Tech 1980, March I think....was at the sound check...Instant fan...saw Dexys a few weeks ago...they were great
The spirit lives on…keep wearing the beanie!🤟💕
Message to Kevin Rowland. If you got Dexy's back for one gig you would sell out !
Didn`t he aiready sell out wearing that dress ? lol.
@@ponyboycurtis9345
Don’t knock it - until you try it ☺️
Dexy's widens my spirit, a young rebel soul from Spain
Me too, a young soul from the Midlands x
Their best track by far 🤙
This is so much better than the other pop one. Yes I was around for the original release
Why hasn't this video got millions of views!? So underrated...
This song has so much energy. Brilliant track
Absolute genius. Kev, get the boys back together for pity's sake before i pop my clogs.
Fabulous stuff! I had the great pleasure of seeing these guys and the Q Tips in successive weekends, blue eyed soul joy overload
A top tune from my childhood, which was a happy one thanks to bands like this, along with ELO, Supertramp and Queen, to name but a few.
Still as fresh as ever !
Dexy's must be the most underrated band of all time and "Searching for the young soul rebels" the most underrated album.
one of the best debut albums ever
sat for hrs listening to this album.... still one of the best albums out there...
Spot on comment
Not by me, it’s a fucking classic.
No there not
Hugely underrated song.
+72moon I come back to it again and again. Love it so much.
"Underrated" means you can't understand why no one else likes it as much as you do. Believe me, there's loads of us who feel like you. Who cares about the rest of the worlds idiots.
This is absolutely fantastic gold 😍
one of the best videos ever made, iconic
That bass line motoring thru the song 👌🏽💪🏽
First dexys bass line I learned to play
Searching For The Young Soul Rebels - what a masterpiece !!!
My favourite DMR song
I love that brass sound. Reminds me of my first party and my first kiss in my early teens. Happy days. The brass sound would go through you when stood close to the amps
On kids TV programme 'Tiswas' Sally James asked Kevin Roland "where they got their name " .
Rowland replied 'you know what Dexies are ? '
(Prescription) Dexedrine tablets .
I've had this album since 83, when I was 16, little gal from Mississippi. Boy has more soul than most of 'em over here, for sure. Still waiting for the young soul rebels, but at least my daughter is one! :)
Yep, still listening in 2018.
I am so impressed that you had this album in 83, in my opinion you must have been the coolest girl in school ! Searching for the young soul rebels took my breath away when they brought that album out in 1980 ( I was 17 then ) sadly the band soon broke up in their original hard hitting soul based format and became a shadow of their former selves releasing some very unpleasant and sickly songs such as Come on Eileen !! Keep playing that album Vanessa.
@@johnsadler3833 you have to pay the bills or drift off into obscurity, easy choice
@@johnsadler3833 lol, nah, I was the weird kid, remember that I said Mississippi, lol! All the people in school were either into Michael Jackson or were metalheads, I stuck out like a sore thumb. Come to think of it, I still do. But my favorite bands are still Dexys and The Alarm.
@Jack D'Ripa thanks Jack!
@@ChristChickAutistic Really cool for someone to be into this album at that age in the American south.
The best song they ever produced and so active live. The Railway Hotel Harrow and Wealdstone 1979. Oh what memories!!!!!!!!
its a pub full of Micky Pierces.
One of the best albums ever made!
Whaaat?? 😁😁
Certainly is!
YES!!!
All the best from Sweden.
Probably the best for me. It’s a suite that I have to listen from beginning to end. ❤❤
Great memories, such a tight band with a great sound.
"Ricky, you're always so happy, how the hell? You're like a dum-dum patriot". This line is priceless!
Yeah but it's addressed to Robin not Ricky
Spent years thinking he sang "You're like a dumb dumb pastry" Don't know why I didn't hear the 'ot' at the end. Sounded like gibberish but always gave Rowland the benefit of the doubt as someone who could make even pastry sound angst ridden and meaningful.
What a band... totally ahead of the curve... lyrics are absolutely outstanding... a ray of sunshine in a very dark British era 👍
when i heard this album in 1981, it made me want to play music
I seen Dexys perform this in 1980 at a club in Liverpool called Gatsby’s where they performed all their up coming Searching for the Young Soul Rebel material, I loved that gig that much I’ve been slightly disappointed ever since and I’ve seen everyone, Kevin’s haunting soulful voice full of angst and despair echoed millions of youths lost in the cracks of Thatcherism and the horn section was fierce as was the Hammond organ
I was at that 👍
U was a lucky one
Yes you were lucky
So underrated........they had 2 number ones in the UK (Geno....and....Come on Eileen), and two other chart toppers; Show Me...and...There there my dear
You know you're listening to good music when you remember every word of the lyrics all these years later.
One of the greatest songs ever written..
Timeless classic sounds new so many memories thanks Dexys Midnight Runners And not forgetting The Emerald Express .
U can bring this on every day of the week.brings back alot of memories when I was 18,57 now and still Rockin to it.
Hello UK friends. Thanks for all the artists you provide to the world. This being one of them.
You're very welcome.
hector mc. cervera thanks for killing most of the people in my country, taking their children, enforcing them into slavery, stealing their resources, damaging the sacred land and finally refusing entry for anyone else.
:) #australianproblems
hector mc. cervera this is part of the anglo irish tradition. first generation paddys like myself
The people from Britain who stole the land in Australia and settled there are now called "Australians". The people who live in the UK weren't responsible.
You'd rather be sleeping in a cave, starving to death at 28 years old?
I chased up and had to buy this album as an older man, what a force of music and quite remarkable band these where amongst Duran Duran and Culture Club..
You had to be there .. and i was .. and still am .. this music never leaves your soul .. if only the kids nowadays has this i wouldnt fear so much for the future
That album. I'm 44 years old and I only discovered it 12 years ago. But, seriously, one of the best of all time, in my opinion. And I listen to about everything from 1920s blues to new electronic music.
This album is just utterly brilliant, a masterpiece. I will soon buy it on vinyl as well.
Yeah I'm a big fan of DEXY"S this is my favourite song by them ,the brass section is tight as a drum .I still got a vinyl of searching for the soul Rebels ,🍺😎👍☮️❤️☯️🎷🎸🎺🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
They sounded great, and looked great. The docker look was a good choice
I was a little kid when these songs came out and just now finding them. What a nice change from Ariana Grande and T-Swizzle.
Kevin and the brass section sure stand out love the keyboards as background harmony.those were the days ❤
They was allsome in the day
Dexy's was my bombers, my Dexy's, my high!!
What a track, lyrics are sublime
Quite simply the greatest song of all time
Really feels like it when I relisten to it. Only gets better
Where did that 40 years go! So many memories, pure gold. 🎶🎷🎷🎶
Thank you Dexy's. I loved your music as a teen. . Stil do! Don't let anyone curtail u x x
Totally agree, most of the world missed them, even now when I play this album to others they are blown away.
The wonderstuff do a fantastic cover of this classic👍😁😁😁
Dexys were so much more than just Eileen....love that this music lives forever
"Gino"..Brilliant!
I totally agree
The likes of Damon Albarn get credit for ‘fusing’ music genres. Kevin Rowland was doing it 40 years ago.
A truly INCREDIBLE album!!
a forgotten nugget of gold pure class
Ahhhhhh where has my life gone.Loved this album when it first came out and still do.
The smooth sound of brass nothing to beat it.
Wow! This song kicks ass. The intense rhythm, Kevin's heartfelt and uncompromising vocals and the beautiful power of the brass section.
Total power. Love it. What a sound.
Nothing beats it. God bless you Kev n Jim
This record reminds me when I bought it after hanging out in Portebello market (the interesting bit not the antiques) on a saturday, and burning incense in my bedroom as a 13 year old. Along with Geno this tune was an epihany and lead to a love of soul music for 30+ years
Changed everything for me, loved them then, and now.
Saw the great ones as a 14 year old summer '80 older brother snuck me in @ City hall Cork Geno in the charts Searching for the young soul rebels just out always in my memory seeing Dexys @ Olympia Dublin October '23 first time in 43 years can't wait 😎👍 ........
superb horns section and top tune
their show here is Lisbon, Portugal, launching tour of Searching... was best gig of me life, changed me as a person.
Quite simply the greatest song ever made.
Oi oi
Seven Days, Geno, the whole album RULES
Excellent tune, mate.
1980 was a very good year coyi
How fantastic is this record?
Christ the last time I heard this was at the youth club when it came out, I was about 12 or so, music is powerful
When music was music. Much better than any of the modern day shit. Proper song writers, musicians and singers. And that dance at the beginning and end is cool.
Still listen to the pure brass music, lyrics and I still have Searching on vinyl. Could have done without the Celtic soul vision... only diluted Dexys IMHO
A time when everything was so simple
The great thing about Dexys is that donkey jackets replaced our school blazer for a few years.
Followed dexys since 1980 and still crave new songs even now, their songs have lasted and represent life, such powerful lyrics
In my youth I fluctuated between Mod and SKA and loved Northern Soul music so these guys are and always were gods to us
SOULIES !! Oh Yeah !
Good taste Andi mate.
Andi Jones I was into punk but a northern soul fan on the qt. ... still absolutely love it ...
What category do DMR fall into? I've always wondered. No wave?
@@comoyoko soul kinda
‘Searching for the Young Soul Rebels’ defined my childhood music taste alongside Ska & finally Funk/Soul. Love it 👌🎶🤩
ONE OF THE MOST UNDER RATED SONGS AND ALBUMS SHAME THE YOUNG SOUL REBLES TURNED INTO COUNTRY BUMKINS COME ON YOU NO MWHAT ECT !
Any Dexy's Midnight Runners enthusiasts around here?
Watching a favourite film of mine (Kevin and Perry Go Large) reminded me of this underrated, yet brilliant classic. I love this
Their best song. The lyrics are sublime...
you r not wrong
I have seen many, many groups over many years. Saw Dexy's in a tiny club in Birmingham, just when they broke - the tightest band I ever saw.
Hagley Road ?
@@frankyw8803 I really can't remember, but it was 'downstairs' somewhere!
Loved the fact I had to buy lyric sheets to understand this top band 🥰
Absolutely marvellous!!
reminds me of getting a backie on a scooter ripping through the streets.
Brilliant. Great lyrics
Just a banging tune
As soon as I heard the first line it just took me back to the year I left school .. what a track
Unforgettable! Amazing band, wonderful memories.
style aswell as musical talent
Souvenirs d’un concert à Paris dans les années 80, avec des amis, grosse ambiance, gros délire.. c’est loin tout ça...mais inoubliable époque.
Love the drive and energy, and horns to die for🎺🎺🎺
