A better band than most people credit them to be, I've read that they were excellent live. The hits were certainly catchy, Clare Grogan had instantly recognisable voice, and of course, bags of sex appeal. UK pop was full of talented bands in the 80s, like the 60s, and some of the UK/Irish talent actually made a dent in the US market, the great barometer.
This is what the 80s is all about easy listening music oh how we miss this era I was privileged to be part of this decade of great music as a teenager ❤
Altered Images played at Lancaster in 1982 and of all the gigs I went to that year theirs is the one I still remember. The band was on top form, and played a blinder, but Clare made the whole thing special. That voice, that face, that figure - she was totally wonderful. I wish there was a video record of that night.
It was May 11th 1982 - it's on this tour programme/poster that someone posted on Twitter - photos of band members and handwritten messages from Clare and the others. As good as most of the 80s UK bands and I Could Be Happy sounded just as Scottish as Big Country. Plenty of jingle jangle guitars around back then, as much as the synth nearly took over.
