In 1981 Kevin did an interview on Radio 1, where he stated true or not that he listened to Aretha Franklin's say a little prayer every morning, I was 17 and his enthusiasm for life lifted my spirits, loved his bravery and music ever since..
Kev, you were my hero 35 years ago and now in 2016 you still float my boat! What an absolute fucking legend you are........possibly the most underrated musician of all time!!
Ibiza...wow you must be doing it tough Kianu... hahahaha. Yeah i hope you get to see them....i'm in Australia so its highly unlikely i will see him live. Nice to chat my friend... keep in touch and take care!!
This is the best version of this song, it's a positive beautiful upbeat style rather than the drab and sad versions...I love Dexy and Kevin's voice is amazing and this band is among the best of best if not indeed the best...don't ever stop doing what you're doing Dexy, it makes me "wiggle"...your treasure is recognized now and will be discovered by others as time goes on...thankU for sharing your gift!!!
Kevin Rowland epitomizes the flawed genius. A magnificent vocal talent who strangely always seems to be three steps ahead in a nostalgic sort of way. God I talk shit. Love always Kev.
Rolando Aponte me too! I just showed my husband this one & the documentary on Dexi’s. He loved this song by Judy Collins & said he likes this version of it.
At 66 years old that band is part of my history. Just seen this for the first time, love it. Saw someone wearing a Triumph ring. My Triumph Bonneville motorcycle is my one constant love through my life. Poignent..?
Love you! Met you in Brussels Hard Rock Cafe. Serviced your burnt pizza, Not my responsibility, many yeas ago, You were not happy! You are cool and survived! Maggie, the Scot, Keep going! This world needs you. No pressure. But your lyrics are fab. And get better..
KEVIN, I graduated in the early 80's. Liked your music. Now in my mid 50's discovered your cover videos! Amazing!! Please do more! Thanks for sharing your talent!🎶🎵🎹
The genius that is Kevin Rowland. One small thing (in the myriad of things he has recorded), but 40 years later and nobody has come close to replicating that chunky rhythm guitar sound on "Geno".
Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere Looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and they snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way that you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show And you leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions that I recall I really don't know love Really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say, "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all It's life's illusions that I recall I really don't know life I really don't know life at all
I subscribe what 80s Music said: "I find the modern incarnation of Dexy's deeply moving not just for the quality of the songs but also the dignity in the way Kevin is a survivor who is still able to produce beautiful, uplifting music that keeps on getting better and better." So: 12 stars in 10 possible! Thank you guys for those toutching songs and videos !
I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with the original version of this song! It’s a captivating melody. The lyrics are beautiful, yet sad in a way. But the clincher is Joni. Mitchell’s melancholy voice that always tugged at my heart. Fast forward to this innovative reincarnation from Dexys and I’m listening to this song in a whole new light! Something about the quirkiness of this up-tempo remake just makes you feel good!!! Well done 👏👏👏!
Simply genius! Thank you for continuing to grant into us such amazing music! So very few have the gift to shine emotion directly into others souls, you all have this gift. I count the world a brighter place with you having used your musical storytelling talents!
One of my favourite songs , a song I would like played at my passing . Excellent cover and Kevin's voice is made for this, jimmy nail does a very good version as well , and I know jimmy nail is not everyone's cup of tea but his vocals singing this song is raw emotion
Love this and love you Kevin... saw you in NYC 35 years ago.... great concert great memories Slan go foill Peace, Deirdre Hostess of The Independent Stage Radio Show
This video is awesome. It's like a reunion with an old friend. I never thought of them aging like the rest of us. They were always Dexys Midnight Runners on the street corner in their bib overalls. Thank you for sharing. So good to see the gang again!
How good is this cover! It has given me reason to listen to it totally differently from the original. The production, musicians the whole song, SUPERB!!!!!!
This has so much of a northern soul beat to it. Take me back to Cleethorpes Winter Gardens in 1977 and let me play it to my friends. I know they would love it.
It's a cracking tune,, been listening to dexys since I was 7, 8 Yr old awesome band,, can remember going to Scarborough on holiday at 8 Yr old and somebody played dexys all the way there on the bus obviously young soul rebels, I'm now 49 and still love dexys 💕💕
The best track on Let the Record Show is The Town I Loved So Well. Peak of the album. Simply brilliant rendition. For me, How Do I Live and You Wear It Well would be next, but I love Carrickfergus and Grazing in the Grass too though.
As a proud Canadian, I am so pleased to hear this. A really beautiful version.
I am absolutely captivated by the fashion and style of the clothing in this video.
Yes, great style for sure!
500k views?? Criminal...the coolest video and greatest cover version of a classic you could ever want ❤️
Kevin captured me at 14 years old. I am now 52. His music is the background of my life!

we all get to the age that we look back and say if only but then we go on hoping for the best
Magnificent cover. Kevin can do no wrong
The cinematography on this vid is phenomenal.
The music as ever Top Class.

Oh Boy, Joni Mitchel is the greatest songwriter of many generations. And this is a briliant interpretation
I cannot get enough of Kevin and the Dexys, I feel every word of this song in my heart... I love you guys... I love you Kevin ❤️
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how you cover a song.
Superb, different version of a classic tune.
Just wonderful
Kevin Rowland epitomizes the flawed genius. A magnificent vocal talent who strangely always seems to be three steps ahead in a nostalgic sort of way. God I talk shit. Love always Kev.
Wow! This is a real treasure trove of one charismatic thinker, singer and cultural icon, and those talented folks who have worked with Mr KR.
I've found myself going back here almost every day. This is addictive and this gang feels almost like family.
Rolando Aponte me too! I just showed my husband this one & the documentary on Dexi’s. He loved this song by Judy Collins & said he likes this version of it.
@@24sunny48 Me too! It's my morning pick me up:))
This is bloody wonderful. The whole album is a joy.
That is a song that had to be written by Joni Mitchel and had to be performed by Dexys. Great enjoyment.
At 66 years old that band is part of my history. Just seen this for the first time, love it. Saw someone wearing a Triumph ring. My Triumph Bonneville motorcycle is my one constant love through my life. Poignent..?
Ever changing Dexys, band members come and go and come back again but one thing stays the same...The amazing voice of Kevin Rowland......
Look at his THREADS OMG ! QUALITY STREET.
One of the loveliest songs ever written. (Kev really knows a good tune doesn't he?) Nice version too. Great to have Dexy's back!
He does ! And he wrote a few too !
Dexys, Joni, Pellici's cafe, Blackman's Shoes, Bethnal Green, the style and what a cover!!
Love the piano on this one.
KEVIN, I graduated in the early 80's. Liked your music. Now in my mid 50's discovered your cover videos! Amazing!! Please do more! Thanks for sharing your talent!🎶🎵🎹
Love it. Kevin and Dexis, you must visit PORTUGAL. We love u so much.
Just found this brilliant, reflect life at 52.
I love many of the facial expressions captured here.
The genius that is Kevin Rowland.
One small thing (in the myriad of things he has recorded), but 40 years later and nobody has come close to replicating that chunky rhythm guitar sound on "Geno".
also the sound of the bassguitar on "searchin ..." is one of the best ever
God bless Kevin Rowland and Dexys. What an amazing interpretation of this song. Goosebumps and smiling ear to ear!
After 27 years without a Dexys album Kevin is on a roll now!!
I love the people in the video, the facial expressions, and the diverse fashions.
Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
Looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and they snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way that you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
And you leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions that I recall
I really don't know love
Really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say, "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange
And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
It's life's illusions that I recall
I really don't know life
I really don't know life at all
Judy Collins' version of this gives me the chills...Bill
Love this!
Los franceses son muy localismos pero igual saludos desde ARGENTINA nos gusta su musica👏👏👏👏👏
He sings this song sooo well!! ❤️
I thought I was going to hate this, but was pleasantly surprised!
Fantastic version and amazing video
They haven't lost it...think they sound even better now (if that's possible)..superb cover of a classic.
Who said they'd lost it....?? They OWN IT....!!
Undoubtedly this best version of this beautiful song!
Just checked for Eileen...and shit, another band I'll have to check and eventually buy albums from... It's cool but almost tiring and EXPENSIVE!!!! ;)
Впервые услышал DMR в 1982 на радио BBC, с тех пор слушаю и люблю
I am completely mesmerized by this video. The cinematography is stunningly good. I really do want to know these people. Thank you so much for this.
Ultra high end bespoke fashion house, around 50k worth of clobber on half a dozen actors
