  • Hey guys! Nyob Zoo! Welcome to Sweet Little Home!
In today’s video I will be sharing with you guys how to build your very own HIGH-END & BEAUTIFUL CONSOLE CABINET from a typical, standard, & not so pretty looking bookshelf! YESSSS! LOL. This console cabinet is for my living room makeover that I have been working on for months now and so I thought it would be nice to share this process with you all, as well as to help inspire and encourage you guys to build your own too! I won’t lie to you guys; this wasn’t the easiest DIY to tackle. But I believe this was difficult and took us forever to finish (2 weeks) was because this was our very first attempt to do something like this. So that explains why we made so many little mistakes.
Measurement of the finished console cabinet: 36” w x 12.5” d x 40” h. Total cost to build the console cabinet is approximately $115.00. I don’t know about you guys, but this is such a money saver! I see a lot of these that goes for $250 + for smaller scale ones too!
Here is a list of all the items I used in this video for anyone who’s interested:

Love the idea of the legs and using the yardstick as a border. So creative!

Drilling a bigger pilot hole will probably help with the pull screws and to get a cleaner look on the paint use a foam roller

It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

Just use a larger drill bit so the screw slide straight through which will prevent stripping.

I love this. It is a beautiful high-end looking piece and you’ve been very creative without using a lot of high-end equipment. The hinge part is scary but otherwise I’m really thinking of making this.

This is the best tutorial on this! No crazy power tools and realistic. Love the yard stick idea and showing where you had issues. *chef kiss*

Great job, and very creative. I love your use of the yardsticks to add interest. If you wanted perfectly smooth edges, wood filler is excellent to fill in spaces without adding any dimension.

To make sure you don't put a whole all the way threw the wood measure the depth and use tape to mark the depth on the drill bit

great tips! thanks for sharing your experience in making this. it came out very well. one suggestion. find wood with nicer grain, less raw. it will look better in the end, painted or not.

You did a great job for a beginner. Save yourself the five coats of primer and buy soft wood trim the width of a yardstick in the trim department. They're sold at 36 inches in length and 1 1/2 in or smaller in width. Sense it's softwood, it's easily cut with a miter box and a hand saw.

Benjamin Moore Advanced Waterbase semi-gloss paint is the best paint for wood! It is a hybrid between water/oil that cleans up with water and you do not need to seal it.
    Great job!!

Hello Sweet L H when drilling holes for the handle screws use the the next size Drill bit up from the one you used .Those srews are only designed to have no resistance from the wood.

A great piece and turned out beautiful- maybe this will help for other projects:
    - these screws are a bolt type screw, they should just slide through the hole you’ve drilled - they’re not made to have resistance. They stay in place with the attachment of the door handles on the other side.
    - Also, when you add glue to raw wood, pin nails are only used to adhere the piece while glue is drying - the glue is actually stronger than nails once dried. ( I know you mentioned you would use nails if you had them - there really is no need with trim unless you don’t have enough clamps).

Another note: sample size paint is not the same as the brand paint. Its pigments floating in a dryable, stable liquid allowing people to see how the real paint will look on th air walls. If you are not using a clear coat such as verathane, you will want to use real paint for your project.

  • @Jan-bj2ku

for how simple that cabinet was. I think it was better to buy a piece of furniture with doors. You would have saved money, time and effort.
