I have been delivering packages sense 1964 and still learning. I put all the boxes is the back seat in number order. I put all the envelopes and bags in the front passenger side foot well and seat in number order. If it is not on the seat next to me it is in the back seat. I very rarely have to look for a pack if I have sorted and loaded them properly. I am a little slow at the station but can make up a lot of time by being organized before I leave. This can be a fun job, all you are doing is visiting people, taking them stuff and delivering smile.

My wife has a van and uses a laundry basket on the front passenger seat for all the envelopes and organizes them by stop number. Boxes go in the rear also organized by stop number. Works well!

The way you load your car is exactly how I loaded for UPS personal vehicle delivery & it worked well. I used to load marking each box w/ a 1, 2, 3, 4 ect, but we had more time to load our cars. I am now a DSP delivery driver w/amazon & when I have time, I sharpie the address on my overflow boxes ( lg. boxes) to quickly see the address. A little time organizing in the beginning, saves time later.

  • @thinkchefly8737

I do something similar. I bring along a large plastic bin that I put all the envelopes in (in order of the yellow stickers). I scan and sort all of those first. Then I sort out all the boxes in order on the cart they come on. There's usually 4 levels so 1-10 on the top, 11-20 on the second, and so on. Then if there's any really small boxes I put them on top of the envelope bin if they are early in the route. Next if they're are any really large boxes that wouldn't fit in the cabin area I put those in the trunk (highest number to lowest, as not to have to dig). If you don't have any xl boxes then skip to this next step. Load all of the boxes (highest number first) starting deep in the trunk working up. The when that's either full or you get to the point where the remaining packages would fit in the open space in your back seat then load the rest there in the same manner. Doing this will ensure that you only have to open a second door for a larger package early in the route (can usually just reach the packages in the back seat from the drivers seat if not too big, don't wanna pull a muscle!). Then when you've delivered everything outside of the trunk packages, on the next stop where you need a package out of the trunk, move them all up to the front (when possible bases on size) and keep them in that plastic bin in the passenger seat to minimize extra door opening (and save time). Using these techniques I typically finish my 'logistics' runs 30 - 45 minutes early.

I DO SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT I ORGANIZE THEM BY LAST THOUSANDTH NUMBER ON THE TRACKING NUMBER IN BOXES LIKE ALL THE 1000'S IN A BOX 2000'S IN A BOX ETC... SO WHEN I GET TO MY DESTINATION I CAN JUST LOOK IN THAT TOTE THRU 3 OR 4 PACKAGES AND GRAB WHAT I NEED AND I ALSO GRAB THE NEXT PACKAGE BEFORE I CLOSE MY TRUNK BUT YOUR IDEA IS WORTH A TRY I ALSO WANT TO START LOOKING INTO THE MAPS BEFORE I GO AND SWITCH MY ROUTE UP TO DELIVER CLOSE BY PACKAGES BEFORE MOVING ON TO OTHER ONES NOT IN THE ORDER I GOT THEM

    Try the double scan method
What I do is double scan each package so I scan them all in then once they are all scanned will say 40 packages 35 stops then I'll scan the packages again because stop number one is always the hub I will number them 2 through 35 now stop 3 has 3 packages so I what number them 3x1 / 3x2 / 3x3 double scan has saved me approximately 30 to 45 minutes or so

Great information but unfortunately not all Amazon warehouses operate the same. Did my first block yesterday and my yellow stickers didn't have that X(stop #)-Y(Package #) information. What I did to organize my packages was to pull over after every 3-4 deliveries, check my Itinerary, and remember the next 3-4 street names. Then I would go through my packages and move those 3-4 corresponding packages to the front seat and continue. It also helps to scroll through the itinerary because I had two PRIORITY packages in the middle that could have been delivered sooner.

I use exact same sorting method up here in Ohio.
If you have the drivers aid sticker with 4 digit numbers, put in numeric order as well but, normally the delivery will be from largest number to smallest.
And lastly, if you have more than one sort zone, still sort numerically, but within that zone. Don't mix up packages for more than one zone, keep them separated and in numeric order..

Great video. However I think every warehouse might be a little different. I did my first drive friday and struggled because I couldn't figure out how to number them. But I had to scan every package. I did a route Saturday from a different location. I scanned one package and that took the entire route. But in either case I scanned again to get each number for the package order. I did see the sticker you're talking about. The next time I drive I'll have to pay more attention to it. Because some people have said it doesn't mean anything for the driver. Thanks again.

My secondary warehouse uses the 1-(1) etc system, but my primary warehouse uses UP(3 random digits + a random letter). It’ll be something like UP343D or UP197W. There’s no order and it’s completely random. Sorting is not an option unless I go through the itinerary and individually select each stop and then find the individual package and sort it that way.
Unfortunately that’s a huge waste of time, since I could just do that during the route anyhow.
They also mislabel envelopes as boxes and vice versa all the time.
Like most people I put all the envelopes in my passenger seat, as well as put all boxes in my trunk. My main tip is to just face and make every yellow sticker quickly and easily readable. Only the envelopes get stacked on top of each other because those I can quickly flip thru like a book.
Honestly just don’t be a slow driver and you should finish every block roughly 30 minutes and even up to 2 hours quicker.
Oh and after every delivery, listen to the navigation and remember which direction you just came from. “Continue on” means keep going the direction you were going, “make a U-turn” means go back the way you came from. Sometimes they’ll throw in a “Head north/east/etc on…” just imagine you’re a bird looking down at the street and follow the blue line.

  • @n9ne__ether30

This was so valuable I was struggling so thank you because all they wanna know is why you aren’t delivering faster they don’t tell you how to be the best, Idk where the miscommunication starts to lack but I thank you so much, I had no idea about the yellow stickers. Hope it saves me from termination 😂😅

What ya helped me most since a lot of the Dallas area warehouses use that random UP number someone below mentioned. I scan each package from the itinerary screen, it will tell you what number that package is on your list and mark it. Then I group then I’m numerical order

I have been driving for about a month now and I find it a lot easier to write down the addresses in the truck so you know what is there. Then I make sure the addresses are facing you so that they are easy to find. I also make sure to place each city together. I live in Delaware and I usually do not get more then 30 packages because I can drive up to an hour away to my first delivery. I also find it easier if you have room take help. My son comes with me in the after noon. While I am driving he is looking for the first couple and has them ready for me. Be safe out there.

Hi same here. Last night was my second time and I did 30 deliveries. The routes were all over the place and I finished over an hour of my delivery time block. I have a question tho (if u don’t mind) do you know if it’s okay to continue delivering even when your 3hr block says 5:00pm-8pm but you ended up finishing all of your deliveries around 9pm. I’ve read somewhere to return undeliverables after the scheduled block is over so I’m confused if I’m doing the right thing or not. Thank you. Btw, my first day was a breeze because I only had to deliver 3 packages in 3hrs and I finished it in 2.

I started my first shift yesterday with Amazon Flex and your tip on sorting them by numbers for each area of the car may work for me. I was so confused and so disoriented on where my packages were and I got frustrated because I only had 4 hours to work. I ended up finishing my last drop at 8:40pm. I worked 5-9.
I thought about putting all the plastic bags in one bin but separate them by the number as well as the envelopes in another bin. And put all the boxes in my trunk. That kinda helped but I’m probably going to try your method. Might be helpful. It’s just me driving.

Also, I managed to re-route myself on areas of the map to where I’m not back tracking a lot. And I had a 5-9pm block yesterday and managed to get done by 8:16pm. @@MrBrandonOBrien so yesterday's route was much easier because I pre sorted the packages by the stop number. I didn't get them all sorted because I ran out of time. I have another route tonight. Now that I am more comfortable I think I will be able to sort easier and faster.

I hate it when I deliver a package and go through everything take the picture and it goes to a map; what do I do with that? The other things when I deliver a package and it will not advance or scan and move to the next delivery? I have been adancing it manually so I can keep going.

My first block is tomorrow and I'm pretty nervous, I'm worried about the workload and not being fast enough! I'm not in peak physical condition and I have saw other videos about how much the workload is...I took a 5hr shift because of the pay, maybe that was a mistake for my 1st day but I guess I figured, if I can handle that, I can handle the others! lol Thanks for this info.

The best way to organize your packages is by alphabetical order. And put all big boxes in the car first

Can you still organize your car with the yellow sticker? In the fashion that you said? The reason why I'm asking like this is because me and my girl have been doing Amazon flex for a little bit now and I kept telling her that there's got to be a way to organize these with the stickers. She's saying that stickers aren't like that we work out of Maryland. I can't wait to go into our shift tonight to see if the stickers are like that. Anyway, easily my question is are the stickers still the way you said they were at the bottom it would say IE =1/1 first package.

I used to work for 2 dsp as a driver now I'm doing flex. I have sold all my swag and uniform on ebay and made a killing lol. I already knew about loading ur route and dsp drivers aren't allowed any packages up front. So the laundry basket idea will work gr at for flex. They r also preorganized bags. Each bag is an area of ur route so mix all those bags up and dump I to the car will make more work for organizing, more room yes but u have to organize each bag as they r listed on the itinerary.

I hate how the idea was to be your own boss yet they give you blocks and a vest to ALWAYS remind you that you work FOR them, not WITH them. But it is a peaceful gig if you wana escape the 9 to 5.
