    Wow, excellent video! Your information has made me finally change my mind about "I'll just give them a little water" between waterings. I think I have finally got it, leave them alone and let them live the way they were created to live. And I will now be spending more time learning about 'each' of my succulents. Thank you.

    I have rich colors, thick, compact/tight succulents which I do water frequently. They're outdoor, between 85-103 degrees. Partially shaded area, planted in cinder blocks. My chihuahua died so it seemed a proper memorial. Small, colorful, beautiful and compact.

    This is so incredibly helpful and arrived in my 'recommended videos' just in time. I don't water my succulents very often and yesterday I realized that I really have no clue how to tell when they need to be watered. The before and after visuals you showed were perfect. Now I know that my watering habits are what they need to be and I don't need to worry about under-watering my succulents, because it'll be clear when they need more water. Thank you!

    Thank you for your content! It helped explain to me what overwatering is, why you can't do it, and how succulents thrive without much water. Overwatering is the act of giving a plant water too frequently, not giving it too much water.

    • @ChopstickandSucculents
      @ChopstickandSucculents  4 роки тому +1

      bh6sic it can be both. If you pour too much water on a small plant, planted in big container, with a soil mixture that holds a lot of moisture, the plant can get killed even in a single time it was watered. It’s giving too much water that they can hold either by too frequent or too much.

    Great video. We all can appreciate the time that had to lapse for you to demonstrate your point. Succulents are my favorite and are a different ball game. They don't play by the same rules that other water loving plants like elephant ears and banana plants do, for instance. Overwatering them is by far the biggest mistake most people make. Personally, I love them. Most look rather royal and majestic, and live up to their reputation being survivalists under the harshest conditions. I even use a wall calendar and write on it when I've done what to which of my plants! Thanks for the video. 🪴

    Wow, 2 cups of water! That's why more water than I would think necessary for that small plant. And I didn't think it was good to let a succulent sit in water. So I definitely learned something from this video.

    • @ChopstickandSucculents
      @ChopstickandSucculents  5 років тому +1

      Pam Wiggins as I mentioned, this video is for demonstration purposes. Meaning, this is not how I water my succulents. I wanted to show how resilient succulents are when it comes to drought. That they will survive and conserve when exposed to this condition but will die fast with overwatering. I place this outdoors and part of the water will evaporate. This plant was revived and was not harmed at all.

    Depends on when, during winter you don't need to water much. Most importantly planting in grit allows the water to pass through quickly

      Part of what I love about succulents is the variety of containers you can adapt into pots. :)

    Ohhh boy. Definitely have been overwatering my jade plants. I'm home a lot so I'm constantly around them and think they need more water even if it hasn't been a whole week.

    Hi Chopsticks!! 🙋 Great info... I watched your other videos & soaking up all I can. I've always been fascinated by the beauty & variety of succulents, I kept saying one day I'm getting some.....That day came on 6/27 (wed of this wk) I purchased 5 of them @ Adams in Poughkeepsie NY. I got frustrated with my other plants, they were too high maintenance for me, So I opt for the lows.... The florist assured they'll be ok even with negligence. I love the colored ones I will keep replaying your video on how to achieve color in them. I'm in an apt so they're kept on the window sill, Sun exposure is maybe 4-5 hrs daily; haven't watered them yet, Should I do so in a wk or 2? Where can I find reasonably priced fancy pots?

      Maxine Gordon in order to make them colorful, they need full sun all day. Aside from that there are other reasons too like watering techniques etc.
      In Estate Sales, you will find unique and even expensive containers at a very friendly price. You just need to add holes to them though. Otherwise garage sales and thrift shops have a lot of them too.
