      Wow! A bearded dragon! 😁 That’s very interesting! 👍 You are so on the right track with doing research. That’s what I did when I was starting. It helps a lot for zero casualty.😃 It’s a really fun hobby. As they say, “it’s cheaper than therapy”, which is so true. Happy Planting, Diana. I’m excited to hear about your first purchase. 🤩 Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It’s really nice to hear what people have to say. I really appreciate it. 🙏🌈

    Very helpful video, thank you. This answered all the questions I had. I'm in South Wales, UK. I repotted all my succulents yesterday in John Innes Number 1 compost. The compost was slightly damp and my instinct was not to water. All the succulents were potted in garden soil before, outdoors and struggling. I have a small conservatory so I've put them in there now. I was careful not to compact the new compost too much. Fingers crossed! Thank you again. Great saying that too

      Hi John! UK is one of the best places to grow succulents. You guys out there barely need to water your succulents. They are also not likely to suffer sunburn out there. You were on the right track not to water them after replanting. Huge apologies for the late response. 😅 I’ve been so busy. I’m sloooooowly trying to catch up on responding to comments and inquiries. I can’t believe I’m 1 year behind now. 😔😅 Thank you so much for the comment. I really appreciate it. Wishing you more blessings, love and good health! 🙏❤️💫

    My niece was staying with me last summer. I told her I wanted some car us. She picked out some healthy ones. Those are doing fine. I went to my grocery and they had different succulents that were mistreated. I bought all I could carry. I bought all them home, repotted them and do. I realize I did everythin wrong after watching your video.but I did wAter them because they had been neglected. I realize now
    They are doing okay. I am happy to have found your video. I hope pI do a lot better now and I can return and watch your video again.

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  2 роки тому

      Hi! Gritty mix is okay, just make sure that it gets really soaked when it’s time to water. They can be too fast draining that it takes time for it to soak up enough water. what is the frequency to water succulents please? Initially, i observed that leaves tend to rot in presence of water. I always thought succulents need extremely little watering. thank you

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  6 років тому +2

      You are so right, Parinita! 😀 They can't stand being wet all the time. The best time to water is when the soil is completely dry. You have to make sure that the soil AROUND the roots is dry before watering again. It is not enough to just check the top soil or the bottom of the pot, especially if the pot is big. How fast the soil would dry depends on the temperature, air circulation, humidity and precipitation in your location. 😀 My apologies for being too detailed in my response. 😅😆 I just have to make sure that all the information is available to my viewers. Please also check this video: ua-cam.com/video/rykY1RSzTQk/v-deo.html on how and when to water succulents. 😀 Sorry for the long response again. 😆 Thank you for leaving this comment. • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  Рік тому +1

      Hello Jasmine, I placed a wire mesh so the soil wont fall through the base of the pot. It doesn’t keep all of the soil from falling through, but it does help. I just buy a piece of screen (the ones used on windows) and cut them in small pieces. Thank you for the question! My apologies for the late reply. suculents, can live with no direct sun on them.? they can live with wall reflected sun light but not direct light? i have a north west balcony .. and sun comes from left hand side on balcony right wall and bounce inwards.

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  6 років тому +1

      Hello! 😃 Some succulents like that kind of light like some Haworthias. 😃Aloes are also great indoor plants, so they would love to stay in your balcony. Most rosette succulents would stretch out without enough light. It really depends on the kind of succulent that you have. What kind of succulents are they? 😃

    • @zepppac3602
      @zepppac3602 6 років тому

      crosolla argenta... aloes veras? what about echeverias ? stay in wall bounced afternoon sunlight? time sun comes is about 4 30 to 6 30 pm.. give me the list of suculents that can live in bounced afternoon sunlight... by the way its 4th floor and its can be windy too..

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  6 років тому +2

      Jades are great indoors. Your crasulla argentea (a Jade) will do great with bounced light. They can live indoors. 😁 panda ears (Kalanchoe tomentosa) do great indoors too. Crassula arborescens ‘Curly’ would be great indoors too. I have an Aloe Vera that has been in my living room for over a year now and she is doing great. 😁Since your balcony can be too windy, top dressing can keep the soil from getting blown out of the pot. 🌪

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  6 років тому +2

      Hi Ana, I didn’t. I normally would just allow the stalk to dry completely. 😃Once it is completely dry, I would try to pull it really, really gentIy, if there is even the slightest resistance, I would still wait a bit longer. 😁 I just really wait for them to be done with whatever it is that they are still busy doing. 🤓 One of my nerdy ways of trying not to interfere with nature, as much as I can...at least, when they are blooming. 🤣😆 Thank you for asking this question. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want. I’m more than happy to answer them. I really appreciate your comment. ❤️🙏🌈

      Split rocks are not Lithops so they don’t split the same way. They can split any time. You also water like normal succulents, when dry. There’s a good FB group with all sorts of great info, but they are def nit Lithops. Lithops are living stones.

    "Energy Flows Where Energy Goes" Thats such an important message. So true! :) I tend to underwater my succulents and a small amount of leaf drop is soooo much better than over watering. When im too on top of my watering my succulents do worse than when I am more relaxed about it. Its always better to wait a day and see then chance and water too soon. :) Great Video. :)

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  6 років тому +15

      Unfavorable situations will always be there. Like people, situations can never be perfect. 😃 We just need to divert our attentions to the things that we are still supposed to be thankful for. 🙏 ...little things like how lucky we are that we are still alive. When we start to focus on the small things that make us still feel a little fortunate, it multiplies...meaning we will receive more things that we can be grateful for. 😃 No matter how dire a situation is, you can still find something positive in it. I see unfavorable situations as an opportunity to show how what we got inside...like how tough we can be when the going gets rough. 🙏🌈

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  5 років тому +1

      Hi! I hope they’re still alive. Space out watering intervals and when it’s time to water, please give them a good soaking. This is the key. They need to experience a good dry spell, but when it’s time for them to drink, their leaves need to plump up. Thank you so much for the message. I really appreciate. More blessings to you! ❤️🙏🌈 My apologies for the very late response. 😅

      Do not overwater them. Go to the hardware store garden section and buy some fertilizer that says for cacti or succulents. I use Schultz’s Instant Cactus Plus liquid plant food. Add a droplet to one quart of water. Other brands are “Cactus Juice” or “Algoflash for cactus”.

  • @whitleymunns9727

    your living stone is beautiful! But I think you are overwatering it! They should never have 3 sets of leaves like that. it means that too much water is in the soil so they're using that instead of what is in their leaves.

      That’s so true! I read that too when I was doing my research on Split Rocks before my fist purchase...that they usually come with a pair of leaves. 😁 I knew she was very special that’s why I chose her, but I didn’t notice that she was splitting when I picked her. It was only when I got home that I saw a sign of split. ❤️❤️❤️ (was too excited to look at the details) 😆🧐 She is such a blessing. 🙏🌈 Thanks again for leaving a comment. Great tips! Thank you so much for sharing. I think I kind of been doing this because when ever I get a new succulent I'm too lazy to repot them, so I end up leaving them in their nursery containers for a while and just water them in their original home. I do keep them in the area that they will be living and eventually I end up repotting them. So I guess I'll continue to do this, haha ;)

    I recently got some succulents and I’ve been watching videos to learn how to take care of them. I noticed in your video you were loosening up the roots before putting them in the pot. I didn’t do that when I transferred my succulents from the nursery pot into the pot they are in now, will they be okay or do I need to take them out and loosen the ball of dirt/roots and put them back in?

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  5 років тому

      Hi Sierra, it’s okay. You didn’t have to. I was actually just removing some of the older soil. It is not a requirement. I just try to remove as much of the old soil as I could ‘cause the little guy probably has already used up most of the nutrient in it, ‘cause they’ve been in there for quite a bit. Thank you for asking this question. I really appreciate it. ❤️☺️🌈

      Hi, KaylanMarie! I always use cactus soil mix in pots. The soil that I used here is a commercial cactus soil mix. In my “soil video” though, I planted my succulents in regular soil and they got really fat. They are still alive up to this day. Hi! Are they in a thirsty state before you transplanted them? If they are not, I think it is risky to water them immediately after repottjng. They are quite different from regular plants. Succulent Cuttings can be placed in water within the same day, but for some reason, they are more likely to die when introduced to wet soil, unless they are in a thirsty state prior to repotting. My apologies that you might have to do it all over again, especially if it’s not too warm out there. It’s summer here in the US, going into fall. I think it’s the exact opposite out there. Thank you for asking your question. I really appreciate it. Blessings to you! ❤️🙏🌈 My apologies, too for the very late response.

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  5 років тому

      Hi! As long as the pot is big enough, there’s no real need to keep repotting them. The stem will grow thicker and more sturdy as it grows older. It is always better for them to be in an already bigger pot so that you won’t have to keep repotting all the time. They grow and multiply really fast. 👍 Good question. Thank you so much for asking. I really appreciate it. More blessings to you! ❤️🙏🌈

    Thanka for the video! I just bought a split rock that had already bloomed and has the stalk left. Should i cut that or just leave it to wither? I watered it the second day i got it. I figure I'll give it a couple weeks to recover from moving, blooming, watering.

      Hello! Congratulations on having flowers on your split rock. Just let the stalk wither. I normally just leave mine until it’s very withered. Withered and dried stalks are easier to pluck. I wanna put it in a terra cotta pot instead, so can i just pick it up out of the plastic pot and pop in it tje terra cotta while its dry? I watched this because I bought a split rock from a pet store, not from a nursery. It got replanted in a new pot from Lowe's that had dead succulents. Bought it for the pot mainly. I'm fairly clear on watering. I need instructions on lighting. Some afternoon sun in a kitchen window? Low light on a table? Bright light on my front porch? 🐀🐾

      Hello, I think your front porch is the best spot. Some afternoon sun in a kitchen window is okay, too, as long as it doesn’t get too hot. We’re almost past summer, so that’s the other good spot. Thank you for the question. Wishing you more blessings, love and good health! 🙏❤️💫

    Do you have a video for succies that needs direct sunlight and indirect. I put my fred ives and 2 hawo and jadelet in one pot. And I've learned that Hawos and Jadelets love indirect sunlight..while fred ives loves direct sunlight.
    I repot them after watering, hope they wont they. This is my third day since repotting and I am planning to water them every 14 days. However the bottom leaves of my jadelet is wrinkled and falling. Any tips??? Thanks

    Could you give me some advice please?
    I really wanted to follow every advice given in the video but I panicked when I realized my newly bought (and first ever) succulent's roots (well, one root to be precise) were growing out of the plastic pot it was in when I bought it. When I pulled it out of the plastic pot (carefully) they seemed way too long and too coiled, like the pot was really too small for it, and so I couldn't think clearly and changed the pot immediately for a bigger one and I put the succulent in it with all the soil it came with and a little bit of regular plant soil because I didn't have any cactus/succulent soil at home. And I had watered it just the day before so the soil was a bit damp though not saturated with water but still :( I just hope I didn't mess up the proportions of the soil too much and/or killed it with my actions. I made so many mistakes even though I watched half a dozen videos and read articles on how to properly care for succulents and I thought even as a complete gardener novice I wouldn't make stupid mistakes.
    And I had been so happy too when I bought it because it seemed sturdy and has two growths at the base (it's a haworthia type of succulent) so I was looking forward to getting two baby succulents along with the normal one.
    Is there anything I can do? I was hoping to buy succulent soil, a new bigger pot, and wait a few weeks before putting it again in the new pot. Should I pull it out entirely and wait a few days until I can get it some proper soil that's dry so there's no risk of it rotting?

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  4 роки тому

      Hi! Thank you for providing the details. I love how you provided all the information. It helps a lot. They will be okay. Just don’t water them again for about two to three weeks. Where are you at? It’s Fall here in Brentwood, CA, USA. If we have the same kind of weather, they will be fine without water for three weeks. There’s no need to repot again. Was the regular plant soil wet, too? If it wasn’t, it will even absorb the extra moisture in the soil from the original pot, so that’s even better. In fact, right now, I’m also in the process of observing whether the premixed cactus soil in bags that we buy from Lowe’s and Home Depot are best for them. They seems to be too fast draining, in my opinion. But I’m still observing them. I will definitely share the info once I have more facts and evidence. Thank you for asking your question. I really appreciate it. Wishing you more blessings. ❤️🙏🌈

      Thank you so much for your fast reply, it's such a relief to read! I'm keeping the pot indoors, and the temperature should be around 65°F at the lowest, 70°F at the highest, but since it's on my desk close to the desk lamp it's probably a little warmer :) It's also getting as much sun as possible from the window though there isn't much of it in France where I am. Unfortunately the soil I used was not exactly dry, as it was kept in a bag in a cold-ish dark room, but it was certainly drier than the soil that came with the succulent. I'll make sure to follow your advice and hope it all goes for the best :)
      Initially, I only wanted one small low-maintenance plant to make my room a little happier without having to care too much for it. I did some research because I wanted to do it right even if it is supposedly low-maintenance, but the more I read about and watched videos for plant/succulent care (including yours and a couple other people on youtube) the more I find it interesting and enjoyable! Thank you for sharing your skills, passion and love of plant care :D

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  4 роки тому

      Great! As long as you’re seeing growth in the middle, she’ll be fine. And since temperature in the room where she stays ranges from 65 to 70, I would suggest pushing back watering to 5 to 6 weeks to give the time soil to dry. The Haworthia that I keep in my home only gets watered once a month or so. They are always better off experiencing induced drought than getting watered too often. It would be great if you have a moisture meter or probably make a DIY one, since we can’t really stick to a regular interval, such as saying “water them every 4 weeks” ‘cause the soil’s drying time varies widely. I hope this helps. Thank you and you’re welcome! Have a wonderful day or evening! 😊

    In Australia during summer we have weeks on end where the temperature is in the mid 40c’s with humidity in the high 90’s. Today after a week of unforgiving weather I found some of my Succulents had wilted and we’re quite hot to the touch although shaded. I’m finding a quick mist 2 times a week is well needed in this climate. It’s amazing to see the colours that have come out because of the heat. but with no end in site for scorching temps, another 40c+ day tomorrow I may have to bring my babies indoors for a few days. Another handy tip for those in hot climates be careful to run your water for several minutes prior to watering as the weather can heat cold the tap water hotter than the hot water system heats. Hot water will kill your plants.

    • @SucculentFame
      @SucculentFame  5 років тому +1

      Wow!!! Mid 40’s is super hot! That’s scary hot. Taking them in is definitely a great idea. Hang tight. The best part about a harsh Summer is that Fall follows after, which is recovery season. My succulents are loving the winter weather. 😍 Thank you for sharing your best practice with letting the garden hose run until there’s cooler water coming out. I can just imagine how much color your succulents are showing right now. This is one thing that I love about them; how they change color with the changes in the season. 🤩😍😃 Thank you for sharing your comment. I really appreciate it. ❤️☺️🌈

      Most growers would suggest cactus soil mix for most succulents. If you are planting them in the ground, any soil is good enough. I have been planting in regular soil in the ground and they are thriving. Proper watering interval is more important. I highly suggest cactus soil mix for Lithops. Thank you so much for the question.
