    Thank you for these videos. Your succlulents are beautiful and this is very helpful. I live in Michigan and would like to have these indoors. If they are in an east-facing window, will they still get enough sun to retain their colors? I don't have many colorful ones, but would like to get some and I want them to stay pretty, but I want to enjoy them inside. They don't do well outside during summer heat or snow.

    • @ChopstickandSucculents

      ellenoid the colorful ones elongate faster when placed indoors or in the shade. If you want to grow indoors, select the ones that requires low lighting.Try zebra plants,, panda plants, jades and haworthias. I always try to experiment. Ones they start stretching, I move them outdoors.

    Great video. It says it all. By far, the most often mistake made with succulents by overwatering. I have an Echeveria Von Nurnberg that dropped a petal or two and it occured to me that I probably overwatered it the last time I watered. I'll use this one as an experiment in that I'll let it go say 2 weeks without water and when I do, it will be with a dropper, not a watering can with a spout. That way, I can be sure not to overwater. What do you think?

      They both need to be planted in well draining soil and overwatering is the easiest way to kill them. I am geared more towards collecting succulents as I can use them for a lot of projects. I believe you can, try to use coarse sand.

  • @chasendashgreen5576

    Videos on succulents from other channels vary so much as to watering, soil, position etc, everyone has there own ideas on growing watering and propagating , there does not seem to be any hard and fast rules to growing succulents. Some say do not get water on the plan itself others say you can get water on the leaves.! I am a bit confused as to which is right and which is wrong, does anyone else have opinions about this? I am just curious..Cheers from down under.....PS.I really enjoy your videos, love you garden.

    • @chasendashgreen5576
      @chasendashgreen5576 5 років тому +1

      Glad you feel the same, They never say what time of the year is the best time to propagate .and also one of them says when you succulent is stressed if you water them they will change to green, well i have had Jelly beans in the garden in a pot and they have bee getting a lot of rain and they are a nice red coulour, according to succulent sites if they are watered they will revert to green !.. Who can you believe? @Mohammad Ayub Mirza

    • @ChopstickandSucculents
      @ChopstickandSucculents  5 років тому

      I understand your confusion. The leaves of some succulents are very delicate. The water that settles on top of their leaves will not cause any damage if the weather is just mild, but if it is hot, it can magnify and make it very hot for the leaves which in turn can leave a dark sunburn mark which will not go away.

    • @ChopstickandSucculents
      @ChopstickandSucculents  5 років тому

      Watering succulents vary depending on what variety you have, the size if the plant, location, humidity level, sunlight exposure, and even the container and soil used. The best way to understand succulents water requirements is to understand their uniqueness and the special way they handle water. Always bear in mind that although all succulents store water, the way they handle water is not the same.

  • @Lildizzle420

    whats wrong with elongated? i hear people talk about that but i dont get it, doesn't that add to the variety? I like when my plants have strange or different features from each other. some of my house plants fell over and grew kind of sideways but i don't care

    • @ChopstickandSucculents
      @ChopstickandSucculents  6 років тому +2

      Lildizzle420 there are different kinds of elongation. If they elongate because they are matured, you are right, it adds to the beauty of the plant. But, when they elongate because they lack sunlight, it’s different. When the original plant that looks like rosettes becomes elongated in just few days, with leaves that looks pale and small, that means that they are Not really happy with where they are. They look sick sometimes. Their stem can become very thin and weak. It does not reflect a healthy plant. But, it’s always up to the you what is beautiful in your eyes. Just like some people love crested succulents and others don’t.

      lester lee you’ve got good collections of crassulas there. Most crassulas need some shade during hot summer months. Those with vibrant colors would require bright light to attain and maintain it. Those which are originally green should do well indoors but may will still need some light from time to time.

    • @ChopstickandSucculents

      Trevor Maralli succulents love the sun and they need full sun in order to be colorful. Some succulents however are more delicate than others and can get sunburned easily. Yes, especially those delicate echeverias. Those with fleshy leaves and those matured and rooted ones can tolerate more sun. However, you need to slowly introduce them to direct sunlight to allow them to acclimatize in order to cope.

      Matured ones will eventually produced babies. When they are stressed out, they become dormant and usually does not produce offsets as well.

      They are kind of the same. Here, we have potting soil mix. Tiu can use garden soil but mix it with perlite and sand to make it well draining.

    I am super frustrated with myself because I keep killing the succulents I buy.
    I follow your exact directions but they still die. :( usually from too much water. But I wait until the soil is super dry and then soak them and let them drain.
    They are indoors by huge windows with no direct sunlight but lots of indirect. I do live in Florida so maybe it’s just too humid to use the soaking method?
    Or should I repot them in different soil?

      Those are general guidelines mostly geared towards outdoor succulents. Indoor succulents should be treated with extra care when it comes to watering. Check your soil mixture, check the size of your container in proportion with the plant ( how big is your plant and how much water you think your container will hold? That would be the amount of water that the plant will absorb) because the water will not evaporate fast indoors, therefore, your plant will be sitting their for days in wet soggy soil. You need to assess your plant as well and determine if they need water. Who knows, they are still full of water and you watered again.

      So the pot cannot be too large in terms of proportion comparing with the plant. If the plant is small, use a very small pot, so, you'd rather the pot is too small rather than too big......am I right?

    New sub and definitely hooked on succulents. One place I've had success buying them and it's at my local Lowes store. They have a reduced plant section so I buy those and bring them back to life. What type of fertilizer do you use? Water soluble or time release fertizer? Thanking you in advance. Love the passion that you have for growing them.
