What a Road! | BMW R1200GS | Nockalm | 30 MINUTES RAW BOXER SOUND

- I was, once again, on a one day trip in the southern part of austria. In this region is the famous "Nockalmstraße". It's one of the highest paved roads in austria.
Beeing that famous, this road is normally quite full of tourists/people, who simply don't belong on a road like that, with their driving skills....
I had the chance to test out the 2011 R1200GS from my riding buddy and saw the opportunity for an epic RAW on this beautiful road. The pace was more relaxed than usually, because I didn't want to let my buddy that far behind, as we were connected with our intercoms....

I have a 2015 R1200GSA that I love but I won't lie that the sound on the "old" oil/air-cooled engine is just the best !

That clunky gearbox and I can hear it from miles away , I owned a 2008 bmw gs 1200 , and the gear box is the same and worst , every bmw mechanic Said sounds normal 😀 I really can’t get used to it ! Nice video !!!
Thanks! I didn't found it too bad on the one I've ridden there. But I've tested the old 1150 once.....man that thing sounded really clunky, altough it didn't felt so. Maybe due to my lousy shifting back then...😂
We air/oil cooled 1200gs owners find the gear box just fine. I think the rider just gets the feel after a while.
Yeah, you just have to adapt a bit to the BMW gearboxes.

Die Straße ist ja außergewöhnlich wenig besucht! Wann warst du da und um welcher Uhrzeit? :-) Und wo hast du das Mikro gepackt? Tolle Aufnahmen auf jeden Fall, geiler Sound und schönes Motorrad, der Boxer ist einfach eine Freude auf Passstraßen
Ich war Anfang Juni dort. Das Mikro war in einer alten Bauchtasche auf dem Rücken. Die Straße ist deswegen so leer weil man da ordentlich Maut abdrücken muss und sich das auf 35km verteilt.

Great video and sounds. Is that a standard or aftermarket exhaust ? If aftermarket, what headers and muffler ?
Thanks! It was the stock one. In general, one of the best sounding stock exhaust I know.
@@StromerUA-cam thanks. I just got my 2010 GSA and was considering changing exhaust, but now I think not. I’m used to my Ducati multistrada 1200s 2016 with full termi exhaust. Still watching your video and enjoying as I type:-)
Thanks for Watching! Changing the exhaust on a DOHC 1200 Boxer is a waste of money soundwise :D. Totally different than my old 1150 (even with a slip on).

Для того что бы КПП не издавала ударный звук при переключении нужно переключать передачу не после того как рычаг сцепления был выжат, а почти одновременно с этим.
The microphone was more or less directly above the gearbox...so it sounds worse than it actually was.

This is a 2011 one I think. The last evolution from the oil/air-cooled 1200 Boxer and the only generation I can really recommend. The early generations from the 1200 had the servo brakes(-2007) that like to fail and until they switched to the DOHC engine(since 2010), the valve shafts on the exhaust side are a bit weak and CAN fail when running hot.

@@brianrundle9219 on a 2011, just check the clutch and the final drive. Put the bike on the center stand and slowly rotate the rear wheel. Also wiggle it a bit around to see if there's any movement side wise. If the bike has ESA test all the settings. Valve check is still every 10.000km(6200miles)!
If you're unsure if it's a DOHC model just check how many valve cover bolts are in there. 2=DoHC 4=OHC.
