I've been looking for this my whole life, well 2 years 😊 - "How do I know if my form is correct during the lunge?" "Should I be feeling it in my front or back leg?" All my questions FINALLY answered! Thank youuuu!
Probably people suffering some PTSD from their first couple of times doing lunges, and they're just rage "disliking" every lunge video they can find now.
This was a brilliant explanation, best I've met in all my years of thinking squats were the bees knees! I shall be taking lunges seriously from now on. I was put off them years ago when I was doing 100 a side daily, leaning too far forward, and my quads became too big for a balanced leg.
I'm so glad I saw this . My trainer has me doing walking lunges and Bulgarian squats with weights and I have never done this before. My knees are crying
Thank you, sir, for the great recommendations. I started with walking and have knee issues, so I'm going back to stationary. Really appreciate the advice and commentary. (Fallen arches likely source of knee pain & ankle instability, but there are other exercises to do for that.)
Learn alignment with all your joints if your out of alignment your doing it wrong. Just yourself strength knees if will get better work on just bodyweight before adding load
I'm glad I looked it up before attempting it because I gained a lot of weight and I'm trying to exercise again and wanted to do lunges. That's a great way for me start off.
Brisk walking is great for losing weight! Easy on the joints and is a whole body workout. I make a Whey (not soy) protein shake with bananas before and after my brisk walks. I lost 12 pounds in a week. Protein is natures diet "pill" and bananas provide the proper amount of nutrients and carbs. Yes, carbs! Muscles need carbs for energy and protein for building (before) and repairing afterwards. So I make a protein banana smoothie! Sometimes I add strawberries. No sugar is necessary especially if you use very ripe bananas. That delicious shake is my reward! Use a free pedometer from your phone's app store. I wish for you to enjoy less pounds, a healthy heart, and a very nice body!
Awesome video... I wish he walked me through all my movements at the gym , A very scientific but matter-of-fact tone That’s believable and optimistic. Two thumbs up!
This here just saved me from starting walking lunges without correcting my form. I’m working on my anterior pelvic, tight hamstrings, sacroiliac joint pain and other pelvic issues. Last thing I needed was to mess up my knees. My lunges and squats are all over the place. Thank you! Subscribed!
Walking lunges are incredible for your core, knees, and overall strength, especially as you get older. I only do them on the beach in deep sand where the pressure is decreased on your knees and ankles but lateral balance in those areas is increased! Sand is inherently uneven, meaning it works all your ligaments/tendons but at decreased pressure so you can simulate real world circumstances without the damage of actual high level sport performance. You are not going to move in a forward lunge in such a linear way in the real world, so there's always a chance that you will have an injury from not being balanced when your body is suddenly called upon to perform after developing your muscles in this manner.
finally! im. always unsure if im. doing it right, like how far my feet should be from my body, everytime i do this. and that aligning thing, i dont even realise (newbie here, sorry😊. been watching your great vids since few days ago & already subscribed) thank u so much danny! wow! u guys are great! 👏👍🤗💕
Awesome! I thought the lunge was more of a quad exercise, I didn't realise it was half and half. This also explained my knee pain. To be honest, the beginner variation just looks like a better exercise all around for me.
Just started working out at home and doing body weight squats and stepping lunges My knees burn after my workouts - so I will definitely try the stationary lunges from now on. Thank you!
OMG thank you sooooooo much. I just started working out again. This helps me out a lot because I tried modified lunges but my knees would hurt (and I would have stop).
Male, nearly 50 years old, and always avoided lunges/squats because of lower back pain and previous knee surgeries. This is the first time I’m excited to try a lunge instead of relying on stationary bike with resistance and/or walking/stairs throughout the day as “lower body” work. Much appreciated!!
Thank you. I watched another video before this one. This is exactly what I was looking very well detailed and also the explanation to when to inhale and exhale. I dislike lunges but I know is because I am not doing it right. I will follow all your tips, start with the position from the bottom, to do it for 3 weeks before to incorporate reverse or walking lunges. Awesome I subscribed and I will check it our mure your channel.
the ground up advice is super useful. I don't have anyone to check my form so when doing the lunges there's no way for me to tell when all the parts are moving.
Hey, thanks so much for this info, so useful but I have a question, if I simply am too weak to perform lunges,( instability, falling on the side, no balance strength), what other exercises can I do to improve so I can do lunges in the future?? Thanks so much for your very educational videos.
Excellent explanation and guidance on how to do a correct lunge. My quads are so tight that I have difficulty lowering my back leg down with my knee bent. Any advice on a safe way to start working on that issue?
I've been doing it wrong! Where were you all this time... :) Thank goodness I found this vid. I'm predisposed to knee pain because I'm a very keen cyclist. I did a lot of Gym spinning and that is where my knees got bad. Thank you for the tips.
no wonder im in so much kneepain. i jumped right away into walking lunge with dumbellls LMAO. im gonna start doing the stationary lunge for now. thank you.
stopped doing my weighted lunges to check form. found this and realised my whole foundation and stability has been BS all along. So annoyed at myself for not knowing this before. Groud up lunges are legit. Will have to put weight down for a bit
This is the best video I've seen for starting lunges properly. Starting lunges from bottom position is the best piece of advice for people how are dealing with knee pain like patellar tendinitis. Interesting that you don't mention back lunges
Okay so need a lil help here . Have never worked out before what should I start with that doesn't need any equipments and easily be done at home ? Have a good day ahead ❤️

This is the problem with college/academia trained personnel. The more words they use, the more intelligent and correct they seem. Another saying - Keep It Simple, Stupid. You don't need a 400 page manual to do lunges.
I am up to doing 60lb Dumbbell Squats, but a co worker suggested trying Lunges to hit all the leg muscles. After watching your video so I don't upset any joints ( 38 Years old ain't no teenager anymore lol ) I can say... These are friggin HARD despite having very strong legs already! Thanks for putting out this simple floor up technique, it works really well. She did a little 75 Day Boy vs Girl challenge that I intend to win, we are both in decent shape so it's more motivational than actual competition.
0:50 - If I'm not wrong, that's a "Split squat" and not a lunge. Lunge starts from standing posture then goes to split squat and again retracts to standing position. Correct me if I'm wrong. Great explanation though. 👌👏👍
I did not thumbs down this, but it’s an extremely flawed presentation. He talks and talks and talks and talks, but does very little - almost none - of actually SHOWING the desired movement… it’s shown briefly and buried under all that verbiage about how NOT to do it. It’s fine to explain things, even at great length, but it must ALWAYS be accompanied by SHOWING the correct movement in sufficient time and detail so it can be absorbed by the novice viewer. Sure, someone who already knows all this may not need this shown as clearly, but then he actually doesn’t need this video, as he’s already experienced; this is pitched at the beginner, and in that respect it’s a serious failure. Plus for all it’s talkathon, it’s in fact quite sloppy, as it doesn’t even label things correctly - split squats are not lunges, and because he fails to spend enough time actually demonstrating the movements, he can’t even name things correctly. Sorry, but he needs to do a WHOLE LOT better than this! I’d look elsewhere for a beginner lunge instruction. FAIL!!!
My trainer started making me do 100x lunges per walking, I just can't. Bad shape, bad knee pain. Walking lunges are not for anyone, especially if you have long legs and inward knee.
As many others have said, this tutorial is exceptionally clear and informative. But the name "stationary lunge" is an oxymoron, so it's rather confusing ("don't-move-lunge"). Maybe "pseudo lunge", as it's really a kneel done in lunge stance?
Omg thank you!! I am a beginner and I have been doing walking lunges and wondering why my knee was starting to hurt so much. I’ll stick to beginner lunges for now. I had no idea!
Question: starting on the floor, left leg in front, I can't get up without holding something. Once up I can go up and down ok, unless I go ALL the way down. (Stuck) What muscle is weak? Right leg in front, I can get up.
