Tbf a reactor on factory usually doesn't mean shit, any decent player knows that the scout on whether a Terran is playing bio or mech is dependent on seeing the extra factories/rax. Edit: But in this game he scouted the mech army comp with an observer before going thermal. Honestly this game is funny just because "Mech" comps like this in TvP aren't viable and it feels like someone is playing a challenge against you when they try to do this if you just make immortal/zealot/archon(if no ghost) and/or disruptors especially if there's Thors or ghosts.

Diamond things: Splitting so bad that A-moving would be better Tech swapping from 3/3 upgrades into 0/0 upgrades I see this stuff all the time in my games
Two things anyone aspiring to be diamond should take note of: both players in this replay have almost no scouting. And both players are only at 130 supply @9:30. The benchmark Diamond players should shoot for to max is 9 minutes - you can do it in less. This is evidence that you can (and should) brute force your way to Diamond just by polishing your macro. Macro is arguably the most fundamental of the game.
PS. I got to Diamond from Gold 3 doing this and I've even had Diamond games where I lost 30 workers in the first 8 minutes, but was still ahead in army _and_ workers because it's common for even Diamond players forget to macro while they micro - not macroing while harassing or microing is the same as hurting yourself. You're better off simplifying your learning goals and just focus on your macro until you can slowly incorporate harass and micro in.

My main race zerg is only platinum 3 for comparison I could probably do the same sort of cheese to, but I'd rather reach higher legit. I've been playing for 2 months although I've been watching since release.
Macro is *unarguably* the most fundamental part of the game. Almost every pro and grandmaster has incredibly refined macro. Even the cheesers have to macro up enough for their timing to work.
I just want to say, I don't play Starcraft at all, never have and probably never will. And I have still watched so many hours of Harstem's videos. The comedy really is gold. The analogies. The stories. Better than most standup comedians.

Though obviously as Harstem says map control and positioning go a long way to make the mobility disadvantage less strong. One way to tell an opponent to leave the game a long time ago was to use fleet beacons to wall in the bottom of the ramp of their base, and spam photon cannons around their final top cliff base, and surround from every direction until they left the game. The Fleet Beacon has so many meanings, one cannot toil with the power of the beacon. It isnt just a building, it feels like something more. Thats why its so irresistible, every body succumbs to the siren call of the carriers and the tempests and the motherships. A strange game, but slightly interesting. There was a moment there where an interceptor pulled a widow mine shot onto 4 cyclones to get the one interceptor. Im curious as to what happens if that occurs alot, there could have been an interesting moment there if he had all inned his carriers instead of pulling the interceptors back, where 4 or 5 interceptors where targeted why widow mines but where over his entire terran mech army, that could have been really bad if the carriers had not microed backwards and cancled all the widow mines shots due to the range validator, he could of ended up with his own widow mines friendly firing his entire cyclone army at 24:17. Perhaps thats a lesson: not to fight carriers ontop of your own mines. Widow mines are good at clearing large numbers of interceptors, but not if those interceptors are over your own army. A risky unit to use against carriers.
The reason why to wall on the natural side is so that if the reaper escapes he cannot do more damage on the unwalled side (the 3rd). Him being able to jump between natural and main creates a bit more headache. While the reaper would rather come from the 3rd side rather than from the natural, I'd not exactly call it a niche scenario. Maybe in the higher leagues this doesn't matter as much, though -perhaps because at that time when the reaper could do substantial damage to the natural they already fall off in effectiveness.
The thing that drives me nuts here is that he spent 700 minerals, 600 gas on one singular colossus: (300-200) colossus, (200-200) robotics bay, (200-200) thermal lance. I'm not 100% sure on those costs, but point still stands, never uses robo bay again. Of course the main killer here is poor map control and positioning.
This was really a sad game. It was indeed a build order win for the Toss but he avoided cashing it in by somehow keeping his immortals from engaging in fights. Then they do engage once and he kind of wins but tells his opponent that he has no clue how to actually finish the game. The opponent is indeed kind of delusional for thinking he could still win by just rebuilding. But the Toss stops building immortals (freaking pacifist immortals just refusing to shoot the enemy) and thus manages to actually die.
The opponent still had kind of a chance tho, because for the next minutes he always was up in army value and could rebuild very fast (but maybe that was just because the protoss stopped any pressure to tech switch to carriers)

Probably transitioning into carriers whenever they are ahead in the late game but have no clue how to finish is just hardwired into Toss's minds on that level. Every time I watch Iodis of like diamond and platinum players I feel like I could wipe the floor with them, it seems like they are essentially brain Dead. Makes me wonder why I’m stuck in gold. Then I remember the only people who send in replays to iodis are just coping that they lost a particular game or to a particular play style when in reality they just don’t know how complex and challenging this game is. One of the reasons I enjoy the game so much is that it’s so hard to be really good
In fairness, it's hard to choose the right units for Protoss or Zerg, they are very specialized and situational. Terran can pretty much build anything at this level and it's viable at any stage of the game.

Well, even if you get trashed, you still get free coaching. Harstem pointed a lot of mistakes as well as points of improvement, even from the early early game. I think it's definitely worth it.
@@DalmarLesage Plus it's a nice confidence booster for ladder anxiety seeing all these mistakes out of players that are objectively pretty high up the ladder. While the skill gap between Diamond and the best players is quite high, in terms of the overall ladder it's not exactly a low skill league.
Diamond has the largest MMR difference in its league. Diamond 3 / 3300mmr where these players are is a lot closer to platinum 1, this is "low Diamond" - Diamond 2 and Diamond 1 might be more like 3600mmr / 4000 MMR, approaching master at the upper echelons of diamond 1. There's a lot of variance in diamond league.
Diamond 3 is just platinum 0 basically, like the guy said its much closer in mmr to platinum than it is to the middle of diamond. Diamond goes from like 3200 to 4300mmr so the "average" diamond MMR as in the middle of the league would be about 3800mmr so about 500 higher than this game, which is more than the difference from silver to platinum. Tl;Dr: From Blizzard trying to force an overly large amount of players to be in diamond league, the league encapsulates like virtually every player and has such a wide MMR range that it's meaningless without the specific tier division 1/2/3
Honestly, if you're not Masters 3 or over, please don't submit these .... you don't even play the game correctly. I'm the same MMR as these two, and it boggles my mind how this guy thinks he even has a right to an opinion on balance ....
Most of them have been long patched out by now, but I think there were definitely a few historical examples of balance issues primarily at the lower levels, in the sense that there were a few builds that could fairly easily be executed by low-level players but were fairly demanding for other low-level players to counter. Mass WoL void rays were probably the worst offender. From what I recall I believe the typical advice was to make sure to win the game before the mass void ray player builds too many of them, rather than any specific advice on how you might deal with the army. The void rays of today, of course, are not nearly as threatening.
He took horrible fights and was still winning because Terran mech sucks against Protoss, and yet he still managed to lose in the end by switching out of his winning army comp for no reason lmao

Its a very meaningful statement. Its said to distinguish it from real builds made by mid-high GM players. Players who are not in that tier are not considered to be able make real builds, because their designs miss game mechanics that makes their builds very sub-optimal for their intended design.

In fairness, it's hard to choose the right units for Protoss or Zerg, they are very specialized and situational. Terran can pretty much build anything at this level and it's viable at any stage of the game.

then first break down:

Well, even if you get trashed, you still get free coaching. Harstem pointed a lot of mistakes as well as points of improvement, even from the early early game. I think it's definitely worth it.
@@DalmarLesage Plus it's a nice confidence booster for ladder anxiety seeing all these mistakes out of players that are objectively pretty high up the ladder. While the skill gap between Diamond and the best players is quite high, in terms of the overall ladder it's not exactly a low skill league.

Diamond has the largest MMR difference in its league. Diamond 3 / 3300mmr where these players are is a lot closer to platinum 1, this is "low Diamond" - Diamond 2 and Diamond 1 might be more like 3600mmr / 4000 MMR, approaching master at the upper echelons of diamond 1. There's a lot of variance in diamond league.
Lol no 50apm is a massive exaggeration. Micro isn't something you need to get to Masters anyway.
Diamond 3 is just platinum 0 basically, like the guy said its much closer in mmr to platinum than it is to the middle of diamond.
Diamond goes from like 3200 to 4300mmr so the "average" diamond MMR as in the middle of the league would be about 3800mmr so about 500 higher than this game, which is more than the difference from silver to platinum.
Tl;Dr: From Blizzard trying to force an overly large amount of players to be in diamond league, the league encapsulates like virtually every player and has such a wide MMR range that it's meaningless without the specific tier division 1/2/3
Honestly, if you're not Masters 3 or over, please don't submit these .... you don't even play the game correctly. I'm the same MMR as these two, and it boggles my mind how this guy thinks he even has a right to an opinion on balance ....
Most of them have been long patched out by now, but I think there were definitely a few historical examples of balance issues primarily at the lower levels, in the sense that there were a few builds that could fairly easily be executed by low-level players but were fairly demanding for other low-level players to counter. Mass WoL void rays were probably the worst offender. From what I recall I believe the typical advice was to make sure to win the game before the mass void ray player builds too many of them, rather than any specific advice on how you might deal with the army. The void rays of today, of course, are not nearly as threatening.
He took horrible fights and was still winning because Terran mech sucks against Protoss, and yet he still managed to lose in the end by switching out of his winning army comp for no reason lmao

Aggressively missing the point doesn't make you look smart.
Its a very meaningful statement. Its said to distinguish it from real builds made by mid-high GM players. Players who are not in that tier are not considered to be able make real builds, because their designs miss game mechanics that makes their builds very sub-optimal for their intended design.

@Supergoon1989 And you're still not getting it. A real build is not just better, they have no flaws within the context of their intent, and their counters are known quantities.
This is fundamentally different from a scrub non-build which doesn't have an intent that makes sense, and their counters are unknown quantities, i.e. limitless random stuff.
