Couldn't help but chuckle a little bit watching this one. Lowskilled's APM was consistently 3-5x that of RockMan, and that reminded me of a quote I heard once "It doesn't matter how high your APM is if 73% of those actions are shoving your thumb up your butt."

11:55 - Dark Archons in SC:BW can cast Maelstrom, Mind Control, and Feedback. However, they have no normal attack.
Regular Archons formed from High Templar cannot cast any spells but have a powerful splash attack, just like Archons in SC2.
It would be a joy to see you play some Broodwar. Also this will be the only time I know something the Captain doesn't. 😅

"Frog in it's pond" means that he is comfortable and safe because in the pond the frog it's in its element, it's domain. Like a spider in it's web or a bear in his cave. Not only are you sitting the chilling but you are more powerful at home or something like that. I never heard this before but i get what he meant.

The problem is you generally don't have an air army even if you go stargate for oracles early game. If you switch to carriers without upgrades against a zerg with upgraded hydras, you're going to lose that fight (even without the vipers). Carriers are only good when upgraded, in large numbers, and with their interceptors already out. Admittedly then they are amazing; but getting there is very difficult unless the opponent is asleep for 6 minutes.

They don't need to win the fight, just need to stall for time for your main army to wipe their bases.

Detection is the main issue vs. Ghosts as well. In PvT they just scan and snipe the Observer. Then ghosts can do whatever they want.
The +1 vision for the pylons is a good call, but is still not enough. I mean we admit that Protoss has a vision problem. Maybe +1 vision on the Cannons as well, idk. The problem is the detection. Other than that, I think Protoss is fairly balanced right now.

  • @kugeltmg

This level of play won't get you to 3300 mmr. Zergs go mass Lurker almost every mid-game in plat/diamond; so you've got to learn that you just don't attack into that many. Like tanks, don't let them get there or accept that that's a zerg base now.
I think Lowskilled was majorly thrown off by that proxy hatch and then got ptsd again when he saw lurkers probably because he's lost to them so many times. I can relate to some weird bs throwing you off. It happens all the time but it comes in so many flavors that it's often a surprise.
What's truly IMBA is anything weird and aggressive early game. Any random stupid crap is almost always harder to defend than to do because the doer pre-planned it and the defender learned about it once it was well underway. You'll notice Harstem has a rote response to this, like pilot memory items; you have to know how to respond before it happens. It's never clear at that level what the hell is happening.

    Dear Harstem,
I’ll just put it straight up. Human players are imba. In this game, my opponent set my predetermined strategy to “Economic Focus”. I thought we were going to have an epic macro game as I droned up as much as my programming allowed. My opener was solid and I was ahead of my human opponent for most of the game. Everything was going perfectly until bam, two dropships full of marines and marauders drop in my main. There was nothing I could do. One by one, my buildings fell and I had minimal army units to fend off my opponent. It was a disaster. I requested to surrender to my opponent but to my dismay, my opponent said NO to my request and continued to destroy the rest of my buildings. Not only was my opponent imba, but they had the audacity to bm me as well. This is surely imba, as I was not allowed to commit more resources to building an army, but I’ll let you tell me Captain. Is it imba, or do I suck?

2:30 - Captain, the phrase "like a frog in it's pond" isn't so much an idion/turn of phrase as a comparison. In their home turf ("ponds") some frogs sit still and let their food come to them, then do the often illustrated tongue whip. He's saying that the Zerg ends up turtling with lurkers that make it dangerous to attack him (for fear of unseen predators), then just crosses the map and ends him.

  • @douglasbessette6045
    @douglasbessette6045 6 місяців тому +4

A frog in a pond is not an expression, its a description. The way all you can see of a frog is its eyes poking above the water.. I admit that lurkers don't look much like frogs so I can see how you would be confused.. I'm pretty sure you can take out a single lurker with 3 zealots coming in from different directions right? Hope this helps.

In Brood War you had regular archons made from high templar that are basically identical to the archons in SC2 (just attack only with high shields) and you had dark archons made from dark templar that were spellcasters. They couldn't storm, but they did have other spells like feedback (given to high templar in SC2), mind control and maelstorm (an aoe spell that immobilises).

This works for clearing supply depos quickly with liberators as well.. You can siege your liberators analize and decide to kill a few supply depos or a single tech structure, and also que up retreating after they are done, with pathing. congrats on the recent tournament btw, I love your work.

I think "a frog in a pond" refers to the frogs in a russian children book (a traveller frog), where regular frogs are pictured as a creatures that always praise their own swamp where everything is better then everywhere else. In contrast with that special "traveller" frog that was collaborating with birds to experiment with travelling. Sadly, that brave frog could not manage to travel far enough, ended in an another swamp, bragging with her new friends about how good other places are. So probably "frog in a pond" is someone who does not want to discover something and step into the unknown.

I'm all for BW attempt. The Dark Archon has Maelstrom, but it only seems to work well in limited situations. I've been playing Protoss since 1998, (rarely though) and I don't think I've ever made a Dark Archon. That's your series, "Dark Archon to S-Rank"

I’m pretty sure the frog in its pond thing just means that it’s ready to spring an attack at any time. Frogs can jump very high with their legs, and basically instantly, so a frog sitting in its pond is ready to jump, and strike I guess.

19:16 why are the disruptores in front of the army?
And yes, yes i know the answer is: because of no control groupes!

Without even watching the full video yet: use storms or disruptors
After watching the video: yep, should have used storms or disruptors instead of running whole army into lurker field what's wrong with you

  • @DiverDrive428
    @DiverDrive428 6 місяців тому

Wise man said: "Each lurker is like a tank and a half. If you wouldn't go into an area where are fifteen tanks attacking you, then you shouldn't go where there are ten lurkers attack you."

  • @AtillaTheFun1337

Ngl, as a Zerg player, I only use lurkers if I absolutely must. As much as I can complain about things like teleporting BCs, widow mines and skytoss death balls, it feels absolutely disgusting to have even just a handful of lurkers and just Thanos snap an entire ground army in seconds. I’m not quite sure what they were smoking when they gave a unit with linear splash damage a huge range upgrade and giant anti armor damage, but it was clearly some strong stuff.

This was a brutal iodis: the worst fight in recorded history of iodis, he is more brain damaged than his opponent and he sucks. But, 'frog in a pond' is a great expression, let noskill go down in history as the linguistic mastermind who came up with that.

Sure, try "a little bit of Brood War", but mark my words, even with loads of practice you won't be anywhere near Artosis level. As a former W3 player you have no idea about the BW mechanics. But would love to see that of course :)

Just based on the early game alone, I’m pretty sure the Zerg could have built a quick roach warren and just won off the proxy hatch. The rest of the game is LowSkilled losing when he should have lost at minute 4.

You are mistaken slightly. Storming is from High Templar, take two to get an Archon, those two units are pretty much the same as in SC2. The Dark Templar are very similar to their SC2 successors, no blink though. Take two of them to get a Dark Archon, which special gimmick is to mind control an enemy Unit - Permanently. I'm not certain you can even make Dark Archons in Multiplayer...

  • @Lazycat410

In coop artanis has archons that can cast psi Storm. They might be in the campaign too, but I don't think they are

  • @rajahava

White Archons cannot cast anything, they are just ordinary unit like in SC2. Dark (red) Artchons are purely caster type with 3 abilities: Feedback (energy drain), Maelstorn (stasis) and Mind Control (permament effect, basically a Wololo).
