For the bottle of modern products on your vanity, you could store them in a vintage hat box next to the vanity or a small wooden cabinet mounted on the wall beside the vanity. To keep your pictures straight, apply little dots of blu-tack to the corners and stick them in place.

Museum wax is awesome stuff! It might also work if she decides to put a vase or other delicate item on that table by the foot of her bed. I have a cup to hold pens and pencils on my end table that the cat likes to knock over that I stuck down with museum wax, and it even managed to stay stuck when I knocked over the table.

@Ane_Rikke The problem with beige minimalism is that they take it too far and spray paint their young children's toys beige knowing full well that children will put _everything_ in their mouths. On top of the fact that pediatricians and child psychologists don't recommend making everything beige. At least keep your children's areas colorful. It's important for development.

I saw a new one that looks old at Home Goods (I think). I hung mine on some pretty, but sturdy, hooks in a pretty laundry bag. I used a bedside table with shelves near it so it’s basically a closet.

5:16 I'm sorry, but the only valid reason to be so categorical about not reading a vintage (first published in 1910) epic novel about the Napoleonic period randomly found in a new flat, is that it's the last part of a trilogy. 😉 BTW one of the real historical characters featured in Gąsiorowski's Napoleonic trilogy is Joanna Żubr (Żubrowa) a seriously badass woman soldier. She left a memoir: _Pamiętnik życia Joanny Żubr, dymissyonowaney w randze podporucznika woysk polskich i ozdobioney krzyżem „pro virtute militari” z roku 1828_ ; The Memoir of life of Joanna Żubr, discharged with the rank of second lieutenant of Polish military and decorated with the cross „pro virtute militari” [Order Virtuti Militari i's like a Polish equivalent of Medal of Honour or Victoria Cross] from the year 1828. This could be interesting material for the Textory podcast, challenging stereotypical gender roles, etc.
FYI, you can rent a tile cutter at every Castorama! There should be some workshops and creative spaces in Kraków where you can learn how to use it. I know FabLab on Królewska street teaches woodworking tools, maybe they also have other cutting machines, or know who does?
11:47 Karolina! I'm a framer. We put bump-ons (little adhesive bumps of silicone or plastic) on the bottom corners of all our frames so that when you hang the picture, it sort of lightly grabs the wall & won't shidt, but also protects the wall from being scratched or whatever by the frame. You can get them at the store, they come in a pack like snickers, anywhere you might find other hanging hardware or adhesive hanging or stuff like that. Or probably Amazon too.
I love your decoration style. It doesn't look too much, like a set of a period film or something. It just looks like a modern home with interesting style. It looks comfortable. Put a small lamp on that bedroom table! Or a small statue
The little table in your bedroom needs a vintage washing bowl and pitcher. But since you need more storage, how about a little tray for some of your creams, lotions and potions? That way they're near to the dressing table, but not cluttering it. I wouldn't worry about hitting it with your feet, but if you're really worried, put a bottle of soda on it for a week and see if you knock it over.
To keep pictures straight, use a smidge of Blue Tak (it’s white, don’t ask me) in the bottom right corner of each one to stick to the wall. Use level of course. I say right corner, doesn’t matter except when you’re removing one- I like to be consistent so I know where to find it to peel off. Looking great!
Your flat is lovely! And for your yoga mat, perhaps keep watch for a vintage umbrella holder so it's both functional and beautiful? And rather than a built-in library wall, perhaps some vintage bookcases would serve the same purpose -and- you can take them with you.
For a more permanent solution, but more effort, you need to attach a wire to both corners because its not balanced and not heavy enough to sit straight.
Use two hooks to hang wired pieces and a small bullet level! I work at an art museum and that's how we hang everything. It's also safer for your art, your walls, and is more stable overall. Looking good! Love your growing collection :)
Haha, the artful shots of the messy room towards the end were excellent! And perfect timing, this just seems like the day for a cozy update! So fun to see how you're making the place your own, I've been loving all these flat update videos!
i love love love love seeing you happy, karolina! i'm finally in my first real home (i'm 60, so it's been a long time coming!). you can re-wrap the gift box with pretty fabric and ribbon to dress it up for putting the plate stand on. :)
11:40 You need to attach a line to the top-right corner of the frame, an equally long line to the top-left corner of the frame, and then tie the ends of these lines together. Then you tie that part with the long line coming from the ceiling.
It looks beautiful! I think the fact that you feel cozy and safe there is more important than whether you’ve gotten the skirting done or whatever. But also go for the library if you really want one. It’s true you never know what the future will bring but if you can honestly see yourself being happy to stay there for a long time, then build the library and enjoy it for however long you are there.
I would add a nice cute fern with long leaves on the corner table, it would add a lot of life to the corner and it will be heavy enough so you dont kick it down jajaja.
If you keep the bathtub shelf conditioned with something like mineral oil, it might hold up better. If it’s varnished, you can also strip and apply new varnish or strip it and keep it oiled instead. Or maybe it’s not worth it for that kind of item. Idk if that’s helpful, but mentioning it just in case! 😅
Here in the USA, there's a product called Command Hooks and Adhesive that you can use to hang pictures on walls that you don't want to or can't damage. There may be something similar available in Poland. You wouldn't have to drill the concrete if they'll work! 🙂
Your home is beautiful! A hack I use for pictures that won’t stay level, I use some poster tack or mounting putty on the back of the bottom of the frame. This doesn’t damage wall or frame and is easy to move around
You have made yourself a HOME - homes are not in my mind picture perfect at all times. Or ever completeley DONE. They are ever evolving with you. And finding myself with that good feeling of belonging in a space was and is my goal for my apartment - an to me it seems like you have made a place you belong for yourself. Thank you for sharing :)
Your flat is coming along nicely. There's no reason to hurry, if you do you'll just find that you regret something and want to change it, it's better to keep things slow and get a good feel for what you should do before doing it 😊
Yes, to bookcases they make every place cozier and great for organization. If you do it I recommend having the bottom half doors so that you can hide away the stuff that's just looks like clutter but you need. I think when you were in the yellow room one of the things you gestured at that you didn't know where to put it is ice skates, you could hang them, maybe in the entry way somewhere so they would look aesthetic and then you could take them down when you wanted to use them. When it comes to the tiles in the kitchen installing them isn't complicated but it's messy. It's definitely something you could do yourself just rent a tile cutter.
Karolina, you have done an absolutely FABULOUS job of turning your apartment into something gorgeous and cozy! I love, love, love your stlye! You are right to be proud of yourself. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you!
pffft the juxtaposition of the cozy tea and beautiful record player and music against the blowing of the nose is the Meme Mum essence we’ve all come to know and love hehe. But fr, I’m rly glad you feel cozy and at home, there’s nothing like that warm feeling🙏🙏
As someone who enjoys good quality of audio I'll add that books and bookcases / bookshelves in general make great acoustic treatment in most cases. The mass itself is a huge improvement and if you get creative instead OCD, putting them at different depths etc. it will do great for higher frequencies. That's why I don't throw away books even if they are something like furniture accessories catalogue (700 pages A4, got 3 of them)
Karolyn ~ I have 2 ideas for how to hang pictures on your cement wall without drilling into it: First, there’s a product called Command Hooks by 3M - which are various sized plastic hooks held up by highly adhesive white tape strips. When you want to remove the hook, you pull on a tab attached to the tape, and it stretches and releases from the wall. Replacement tapes are sold so the hooks are reusable. The hook must be affixed for 24 hours before it can bear weight. Second: There are different varieties of 1” wide, clear, double-sided “nano tape” sold under a variety of brand names - a stretchy silicone adhesive product designed for renters to hang framed wall art. It’s about 1.5 mm thick, and comes in a roll of about 3 - 5 meters (or enough to hang 3-4 medium sized pictures. Some versions of this tape are reusable - which is helpful because it’s a bit pricey. Smaller and lighter pictures may only need two strips to adhere to a wall, whereas heavier items will need tape around the entire perimeter of the frame (or double wide strips). I’ve heard this tape is more reliable than Command hooks. I hope this helps!
I also recommended Command hooks in another comment (for a different purpose)! They are extremely versatile, and I love your suggestion of using them for the concrete wall.
Thank you for sharing! I love seeing alternatives to minimalism. Clean and clear is my preference, it felt crowded for me with all the objects everywhere, but it’s a good reminder that lots of things can be cosy, not just messy.
So much beauty and comfort in one small flat. You have done an excellent job making it work for you and reflect your interests and personality. That sconce your dad gave you is wonderful - thanks for lighting the candle to really show it off. Suggestions: a storage bench for the sleeping bag and yoga mat, possibly the style with a shelf about 5ft up where hooks to hold jackets and bags are installed. Then you could hang those gorgeous ice-skates to be decorative and at hand.
On keeping your paintings straight, when I moved into my new house the former owners kept all the nails they used for decoration in the wall, and I’ve found several places where they had small nails tacked to the bottom of a wall hanging for extra support. Theres typically one where it hangs and two more nails on the bottom in a triangle shape and it keeps things pretty sturdy
A thought about making the modern cosmetic products look better without decanting them into new containers - you could maybe put the whole container in a slightly larger open top container (for something like a small pot of face cream, you could put the whole thing in a decorative jar) or keep a few containers in a tray that conceals the labels, or maybe put some decorative stickers from old brands over the ones you don't want to tuck away somewhere.
Your flat feels like a home❤. I think what you’ve done with the place over the past year or so is amazing. You should be proud. Also, I love the Staffordshire Dogs.
It is a lovely flat and you have done a good job transforming it. That polish pillow? All it needs is more stuffing. Get a basket to put you modern makeup in when not using it. We all have a yellow room, lol. It is your craft / work room, it's where the messy stuff happens . Get a screen to hide it.
It is a delight to see! I especially think that the living room area looks just like you've walked into a 1930's apartment. I look forward to seeing the tile put up in your kitchen; that will just add the finishing touch to that room.
I ADORE the ceramic sconce your father gifted you!! The whole flat looks so cozy and lived in. 🥹 Also, a trick I know: a better pillow insert may help your Polish throw pillow look higher quality. 👏🏻👏🏻 Perhaps instead of a full library wall, you could put up a bookshelf or cabinet and some wooden shelves to house storage boxes? Less of a commitment than a full library project, but would give you some storage.
YEsss I am obsessed with polish pottery. Staring at my mugs currently. The prices are probably so inexpensive there compared to USA. One mug brand new can cost 45$. I buy all my beauties second hand. It helps that I live in a VERY polish town.
Tile cutting and installing is not as hard as you might think. I've done three rooms. Find out what sort of cutters you can get locally. There are many types. Watch some UA-cam videos to figure out what you might be able to cope with. There are different designs of machines, and there are also hand held things that just score the tiles so they break with a tap. Go for it. Wear protective gloves and goggles. And if it looks really bad you can take the tiles off and get some more. You can always get some super cheap ones and practice inside a cupboard. It's really not as hard as it looks, I promise.
I have a tall wicker basket, probably made for laundry, but I use it to store my sports related equipment, yoga mat, skate shoes ect. It helps disguise my ugly sport stuff.
Such a beautiful home! I absolutely love all the color and wallpaper choices! It just looks so cozy and warm. Also, just a tip for the crooked pictures. Command velcro strips! I put them on the bottom edges of my frames, level them first, then just press them into place. The command adhesive won't damage the walls, and they hold great! They make all different sizes. The pictures are still hung, but you're just anchoring the bottom of the frame to the wall. I hope that helps! ❤ Also, Ikea bookshelves and decorative moldings on the edges to make them look more substantial.
Thanks for the update! It's really lovely and has an old-timey, cozy feel. Re: hanging pics on concrete: if the surface is smooth enough, see if you can get 3M picture velcro. You'll need to have a general idea what you plan to hang because the number of strips needed varies by weight. I've even had success using it for my cat's window perch where I can't drill into the window sill. Highly recommend.
Regarding the yellow room, I am actually in a very similar situation! I have a room in my home I am very unhappy with and want to change, but I am also in a place in my life where I see a lot of change happening in the next couple of years, so I don't see a lot of sense in investing a lot of time and money to something I'll just have to leave. What I have decided on, is to do a middle-ground update where the pressing things that bother me will be resolved and I won't have to spend a lot of time and money on it. For your yellow room, what I would suggest is maybe thrifting or buying a nice closet/wardrobe or chest that can be tucked in the empty wall. That way all the bits that are floating can have a space, but you aren't committing to a full library build.
Showed my Hubby the Turntable Cabinate at the intro - him: I want that flat. greetings from Toronto ON Canada. We don't trust sunny days past October; when the Sun's really bright the air is really cold. 😎☕💋
Such a beautiful space. Thank you for taking us on this journey! (I'm also incredibly grateful that the journey is not yet finished because I love this series so much.)
Your flat looks amazing! So cozy! It looks like every piece was carefully curated over years of living & traveling. I ❤ that. My house is the same. Everything in my home was thrifted, purchased at a vintage store or obtained while traveling. To me, it’s the only way to decorate. Kudos!
Karolina it looks *fabulous*. It reminds me (and this is a good thing) of my grandmother, and the way she’d decorate her spaces. Maybe that’s part of the cozy feeling, because I can see it too, and that’s just through a screen. The only complaint I’d have is that the bed is too small, but I think that’s my American showing 😂 And there’s nothing wrong with having a junk room. Everybody has junk space, in one form or another. You could maybe put a small armoire in there, to put your skates and sleeping bag and other seasonal stuff in that you don’t use much, and then go ahead with some shelves, but use them to store craft things. Like, a pile for the stuff you want to frame, a section for fabrics and whatnot for whatever dress you may be working on currently, the ongoing curtain project could have a space, etc. You can sprinkle books on there too. Sewing machine could have a home there. Lots of stuff you can do with shelves, it doesn’t just have to be a library, and it would give you a unified, safe place to keep projects while they’re sitting idle. Just a thought! But I love it, you’ve done a fantastic job. It’s just details now!
Christine McConnell has a tutorial on her Patreon about using transferring your cosmetics into beautiful antique bottles and containers. ❤ I love your flat. It's become a beautiful little home.
I just realized I’ve been watching you renovate since before we bought our own place. That makes me feel SO MUCH better about how slowly ours is coming together! We’ve been living here for a year and still have two rooms that are largely unusable and no rooms that are actually “finished.” There are about 100 projects half-completed everywhere… we haven’t even managed to put the baseboards back in most of the rooms after refurbishing the floors.
To get the hanging pictures in the yellow room to stay straight, get some clear silicone bumpers - they're stick-on raised silicone dots that you can put on the back bottom corners of your paintings, that will keep them from shifting.
Definitely add shelving with pull out storage and a cupboard where the pile of stuff is near the chair in the yellow room for a temporary fix until you get your customised library wall. Hang the ice skates and tennis racket in the hall way near the snow boots on the other side of the small table on a wooden rack you can hang your bag on also. Try putting small round table on top of your sideboard to display pretty ginger jar
Every home needs a "messy space" and it's usually an office, Karolina xD Don't worry, you're doing amazing, the flat looks fabulous! And I wouldn't let "maybe I'll move" stop you from arranging shelving for your books! You can go for a movable piece that can come with you if you ever DO go :)
Your flat is beautiful! Your balance of renovation and modern appliances is perfect. From what I know, traditionally hung pictures were on chains so the weight of the chain would keep the pictures vertical.
Omg we have the same Rostfrei silverware!!! My Oma had them for years and I grew up using them at her house, but then she gave them to me when she moved to a different home several years ago, and I love them so much ❤ ( 12:16 )
I love your yellow room. We painted our library that same color, and it's the coziest place in the house. ❤️ To me, "cozy" is the goal, and also the biggest compliment you can receive about your home. Your whole flat is just beautiful, you've done a great job!
We have nearly opposite design taste - I usually go for a goth-inspired dark industrial look with art deco flourishes, but even with those differences in taste, your flat looks absolutely gorgeous! You have a real knack for putting together items that I wouldn't would expect to go together and making them look cohesive and attractive. Love the update!
Also, I'm not sure if you can get these in Poland, but you can get picture hanging Velcro strips that are safe to use on painted walls (for putting up pictures on the pink wall).
I love your flat! Thanks for keeping it real because it really makes me feel better about similar spaces in my house that are in a constant state of flux.😊
Looks good - your flat could be used as a prop in a Poirot episode. - You might have talked about it in an earlier video but I'm curious why you have such a fascination for the 30's ?
Wait is there a crafting/sewing room? Did I miss it? Otherwise the yellow room *needs* to be your sewing, craft, hobby space. You absolutely need to give yourself a mental and physical space to create. You already started making the coat in there, I’m also planning to make myself a winter coat, and my craft space is as wide open as I can make it so I can lay out those huge panels on the floor. I have a nice open shelving unit for all my fabric/supplies. Get yourself a tall skinny cabinet in the corner with *some* interior shelving with boxes on each shelf, a large empty section for random things like your yoga mat, extra random household things with no home. It’ll be your misc. section for things you don’t know where else to put them, and when you need something that “doesn’t have a home” you know where it is.
The flat looks so lovely! I have been in my house for about 25 years and there are things about it I absolutely detest and have since I moved in but life got in the way of tackling them. Seeing how nicely you have done up your place gives me inspiration to look at those areas again and think about what can be changed. You have done a beautiful job and I think you are wise to sit with the yellow room until what to do becomes clearer for you.

I was thinking just that. My exercise equipment is in a steamer trunk I was gifted when I got married over 22 years ago.
Most steamer trunks aren't strong enough to sit on.

BTW one of the real historical characters featured in Gąsiorowski's Napoleonic trilogy is Joanna Żubr (Żubrowa) a seriously badass woman soldier.
How are you so smart
FYI, you can rent a tile cutter at every Castorama! There should be some workshops and creative spaces in Kraków where you can learn how to use it. I know FabLab on Królewska street teaches woodworking tools, maybe they also have other cutting machines, or know who does?
IKEA book cases with the addition of trim would give you the built in bookcase look without the cost
Yes, Julieandcamilla on UA-cam did this if looking for an example (I'm sure many many others have too!)
Lone fox made one too😅 in his 20s home
We faked built-ins with two IKEA bookcases with the back boards painted to match the wall.
It looks like a home, a lived in space, and not some pristine museum of perfect order. I love it!
i’m always looking forward to your house renovation updates!! your house looks so cozy and warm!
Design rule : everything looks better in odd numbers. So have 3 cushions for the couch or 5, not 4!
It's no surprise you feel at home...the flat is coming along so beautifully.
Bottled water, not soda!
The bottle idea is great!
I remember when I was in school blue tak was actually blue!
You're so adorable! "I have books all over the house but don't worry, I'm definitely *NOT* reading them." 😂❤
Your flat is lovely! And for your yoga mat, perhaps keep watch for a vintage umbrella holder so it's both functional and beautiful? And rather than a built-in library wall, perhaps some vintage bookcases would serve the same purpose -and- you can take them with you.
Thanks! recover your health, stay warm & enjoy your cozy flat❤❤
Thank you!
I bought a house built in 1929/1930 and your flat has inspired me! I can't wait to fill it with antiques and bring it back to its former glory.
i love love love love seeing you happy, karolina! i'm finally in my first real home (i'm 60, so it's been a long time coming!).
you can re-wrap the gift box with pretty fabric and ribbon to dress it up for putting the plate stand on. :)
11:40 You need to attach a line to the top-right corner of the frame, an equally long line to the top-left corner of the frame, and then tie the ends of these lines together. Then you tie that part with the long line coming from the ceiling.
Maybe also that tacky stuff museums use to keep objects in place on the corners?
MY RENOVATING FASHIONISTA POLISH QUEEN 👩🏻👸🏻
Well, the weather conspired to make lighting your flat look VERY cozy! I love the little decorative vignettes and the various gallery areas!
omg. that record player is stunning
What about a vintage armoire to store things like the sleeping bag, ice skates, and yoga mat?
I was thinking the same thing!
Karolina Żebrowska - time traveller and pillow smuggler extraordinaire 🕵
Under bed rolling storage! Lifesaver!
it's where my unused winter/summer clothes go off season and always indicates the changes in said seasons.
I had just been watching a video about an Italian car that was being restored. And then I read the title of your video: “Renovating my 1930s Fiat” 😊
😂
If you keep the bathtub shelf conditioned with something like mineral oil, it might hold up better. If it’s varnished, you can also strip and apply new varnish or strip it and keep it oiled instead. Or maybe it’s not worth it for that kind of item. Idk if that’s helpful, but mentioning it just in case! 😅
Teak oil.
Linseed oil is better. It keeps the wood moisturized and it's a natural plant based products
I use a mixture of beeswax and something. I also use it for my wooden cutting bord.
Here in the USA, there's a product called Command Hooks and Adhesive that you can use to hang pictures on walls that you don't want to or can't damage. There may be something similar available in Poland. You wouldn't have to drill the concrete if they'll work! 🙂
Command is made by 3M so should be available worldwide! It may be under a different name in different countries so it helps to look for the 3M label.
That's why I don't throw away books even if they are something like furniture accessories catalogue (700 pages A4, got 3 of them)
As a painter, there are so many cute spaces in this flat that would make for a lovely still life. So happy to get an update on this!
Fabric on the floor is an aesthetic choice of a creative 😍
Karolyn ~ I have 2 ideas for how to hang pictures on your cement wall without drilling into it:
First, there’s a product called Command Hooks by 3M - which are various sized plastic hooks held up by highly adhesive white tape strips.
@ Thank you for the kind compliment! 😍
Great suggestion! Here in the US we call those pieces of furniture a hall tree (they usually sit near the entrance door, in a hallway).
I read 1930s FIAT and was excited to see.
I enjoyed the video notwithstanding.
i think bookshelves make a room more cosy than anything but your solution works too haha
i commented that before u mentioned the bookshelf wall plans omg that would slay fr
Also, a trick I know: a better pillow insert may help your Polish throw pillow look higher quality. 👏🏻👏🏻
Perhaps instead of a full library wall, you could put up a bookshelf or cabinet and some wooden shelves to house storage boxes? Less of a commitment than a full library project, but would give you some storage.
You could even add some quilt batting or other stuffing to the existing pillow
There are little silicone circles you can stick on the corners of your pictures so they don't move around on the walls when someone walks by
I hope are better or feel better soon! Your flat is so beautiful!
They’re amazing!
I love everything you’ve done with your place and it’s very generous of you to share your journey on the way to a perfect home ❤
So sweet, I love your flat updates so much. Go you, for doing exactly what you wanted!! It is absolutely beautiful ❤
Your flat has come such a long way. I love what you've done
Also, make a video of you framing and hanging pictures if that might help you get it done.
The only complaint I’d have is that the bed is too small, but I think that’s my American showing 😂
And there’s nothing wrong with having a junk room.
Your home is a reflection of your personality, a perfect balance between elegance and originality.
Girl make the changes for you! Don’t hold back for hypotheticals ❤
Christine McConnell has a tutorial on her Patreon about using transferring your cosmetics into beautiful antique bottles and containers. ❤
I love your flat. It's become a beautiful little home.
Wow, more than three seashells, how extravagant.
those three shells reminded me of Demolition Man.
I love your home! You are the only person I know who smuggles cushions!💕
I'm wondering why she would need to smuggle them into Poland? Are they not allowed?
Import tax reasons, maybe, if they're very expensive.
The flat is from the 30s so she themed a lot of the decor around that 😊
You should be proud! It's a lovely space that anyone would feel privileged to be able to enjoy ❤
FINLAND for holidays 😄👌❤️ I love your flat it's beautiful!
16:17 you did amazing!!! And finished so much! There’s always more to do. Don’t be hard on yourself.
