If You are fond for filament LED lights here is my advice. Ones exceeding 4 or 6 watts (eg. 10 watts) are no long lasting ones. They are working even shorter than incandescent bulbs. BTW I do hope taht electricity in yur new flat / appartment is in european style not british. For british one you should consult these gentlemens: ua-cam.com/users/RuchOporuElektrykwUK.
hey karolina, i am far to late to tell you! the little niches for the radiators lead to a lot of warmth being wasted because the wall is much thinner in those places, where the air inside is warmest. my sister renovated a house recently and they filled the niches completely with styrofoam and ytong-stones and plastered the whole thing flat, disappearing into the rest of the wall. for your flat it might be a good idea to find some good/efficient insolation material to better insulate those radiotor niches. in your case you would probably prefer to not have those niches to disappear completely in order to keep the vibe. another thing that might come up the future: modern, economic and ecofriendly heating systems run on much lower temperatures. that requires the radiators to be much bigger to heat the same size room. on the upside that makes the air quality and air flow in the room much more agreeable in the heating season (you know, not being cooked alive near the radiators and freezing anywhere else.) the high differences in temperature also cause a lot of often noticeable draft inside, even though windows and doors are well insulated and shut tightly without cracks. because you kept the old radiators, i believe the heating system in the house/flat is still an old one. you might want to look out for any changes coming up (a new system might save a lot of costs and quickly amortized, plus better for our planet). you also might want to have some time upfront to find bigger radiators for the respective rooms that still match the era 😅 you probably get them for free in many cases. be aware that they might need some TLC, getting rust out of them or like stripping old paint and repainting them the preferred color (plus letting that dry before heating again, maybe more modern products are better but it used to take 4 weeks at least that they should stay cold). stripping old layers of paint also increases the efficiency of heating and makes the radiator loom new instead of old and sort of run down. just like it would have in the 30s when the flat was new 😊

I’m an architect in Germany and it makes me so happy when someone, especially a client, wants to respect the original character of an old building. No plastic windows is my mantra!
You'd love the windows in my apartment then lol since it's a historical center, they can hardly be changed (unless custom-made to replicate the style of the OG windows). So double panel it is, but with the OG wooden windows!

@@neffyg35 After we lost our 1st home we'd been working on for 7 years, I'd planned on renting for the rest of my life, but it was driving my partner crazy that our rent was higher than a mortgage is, but I loved knowing if a roof, the central air, anything expensive took a crap, it wasn't my responsibility to have 1000's of dollars on hand to fix it!!
@@Kree.B. Lucky. At the last apartment I had, they would charge us if they had to come back a second time, and they always did the bare minimum the first time so things always broke a second time. My washer (which we had to pay $100 a month for) was broken 3 out of the 6 months I lived there, the linoleum peeled up and cut my foot but we couldn't say anything because they had already 'fixed' it and they said that if they came back they would charge us to replace the whole floor, and my dishwasher was broken the last 2 months we stayed there.
I am SO GLAD and I cannot stress this enough, to finally see someone renovate a flat beautifully. You weren't trying to modernize it, you embraced its vintage look and I think it's something that too few people do. You always see people sanding and repainting magical old furniture when it could be just renovated a little and it's plain sad. So thank you so much, I really love this journey and your flat looks amazing
That parquet is divine. I love it so much, it feels like you've really struck the balance with keeping the awesome old vibe but also making it fresh, clean and livable. Can't wait for the next video!!!
I loved the flooring too... and I'm honestly surprised it's called parquet in english as well. I thought we only used that in protuguese because of french influence on building styles
As an architect and interior designer, I find your videos about the flat so interesting! First works, especially in an old interior, are long lasting and pracically invisible. But very important. That's totally normal 👍 Good luck with further works!
Neighbors to the rescue! I'm from Latvia and when renovating we were looking for quite specific light cables with braided exterior (?). Long story short - there's an Estonian brand called Juheko which makes not only cable but also porcelain outlets and light switches. I'm sure they'd find a way to ship to Poland (if you ever need to switch those plastic outlets)
I know this is a long shot, but if anyone ever thinks of putting together a document of affordable brands making good quality products for home renovation/furniture/decor which are available in Eastern Europe, I’d be thrilled to share it widely. I feel there’s a serious gap in these markets - possibly because there is not much demand: people either don’t have the money or the education about what is good quality and style, or both. The supply side is also problematic (at least that’s the case in Romania): due to massive emigration and low pay, it’s difficult to find good carpenters, handymen etc. Recommendations like yours are a goldmine!
@@mariap8728 same in Hungary :) I love your idea of a list with nice manufactureres in Eastern Europe! I would very much need it at my job (another architect here)
@bnkab I’m just a passionate bystander, so there’s too little in it for me to start/maintain something like that. But I could add to a reddit list, for instance. I think there are some people covering bits and pieces, but in artsy interviews etc - nothing condensed and practical. For instance, such a list should in my opinion list B2C and B2B price ranges and examples e.g. a lamp costs this much for a private customer and this much for a company.
Omg my mom had an old lamp refurbished and it got a new cord with that braided wrap around it. It's beautiful. Such quality! These details really do make a difference.
@@mariap8728 please, please, please. im trying to restore my PRL-botched 1928 dwelling to its former glory and not knowing where to get historical repro stuff to fit into my eastern budget is a pain.
We’re in the process of building a house and my standard response if someone asks how it’s going is to shrug and say “goes great when someone shows up”
THANK YOU for being honest about how time consuming and financially draining renovation of old properties can be!! I've seen too many channels make it look like "neato presto" new place magically appears and people don't realize that's just filming magic lol. Buyers definitely need to consider the money and time when thinking of purchasing a complete renovation or even a fixer upper.
@@twinnish Can confirm: the 24 new windows, custom builds, for my 1930s vintage house took a year, and there are still two windows to go. This is twice as long as normal, so maybe I'm doing a bit better. The company is doing their best, but they've told me the most random things are intermittently out of stock: locks for the sashes, the slide mechanisms for same, etc.
Hi, I've been watching your channel for several years from South Korea. As a person passionate about vintage things, your channel has been a fascinating source for me! Moreover, I have also enjoyed your videos about Poland, including the one about Maria Skłodowska-Curie. Keep up the excellent work, and I hope you will start a new, even more, successful phase of life in the new flat. Cheers!
0:32 i am so glad you take time to blurr your windows so as to not dox yourself! be safe be safe be safe everyone! i always get worried for creators when they show anything outside their windows! anyone with time on their hands could start piecing together clues to find where you are or worse they may already live near you and then think it is ok to come visit you to "run into you" outside your home. it seems crazy to think about, but please practice safe internet skills like Karolina and keep your surroundings covered! EDIT: 10:00 YES yES YES 100% people are creeps!
Well-said, it's scary how some small detail such as tree or a building outside your window can be used to to track you down, heck even things as trivial as the reflection on your glasses, people are scary, stay safe everyone.
Why would that be so bad? Having fans comes with being famous. If you don’t want to meet your fans who live nearby, don’t choose to have a huge UA-cam channel.
As a retired woodworker in the US, I'm very impressed with what you have done. I saw the saw walk through video and worried that you'd lost your mind. Well done for seeing what the place could be and just what it was.
We recently got window clings for our house and it made a HUGE difference! They don't need adhesive, just water and static. But our home feels more private and elegant now. I think it might be nice for your windows, so you don't need to blur them out in every frame. There's floral, geometric, stained glass look, etc
I just did that for a big window by my kitchen table. I picked a blue/ green stained glass pattern window cling. It looks colorful, and most importantly, blocks out a less than nice view.
Our bedroom is in a half-basement where the windows face right into the neighbor's yard. I. Love. My. Window Clings. We can still get light into the room without sacrificing privacy or letting neighbors/their children peer into our home.
@@mezzb Where do you get them? I was looking for some prismatic film a while ago for reasons I can't entirely remember. Possibly to change how a lampshade throws light.

Your choices for finishes are perfect! I love your aesthetic. Bradbury & Bradbury has lines of reproduction wallpaper from the 1920s - 1940s you might be interested in. Can't wait to see the finished apartment.
So, about tiles; I recently discovered that there is a German manufacturer for art nouveau tile reproductions. Are they around 25 Euro for a single tile? Yes. Do I want them in my future? Also yes. I think I will need to evaluate my job and partner choices with these tiles in mind. That being said; I definitely need an in depth analysis of your tiles and why you did choose them specifically. that would be amazing, at least in my opinion. The wooden floor also looks amazing! Good luck with the rest of the flat!
Renovating an apartment is an art of compromise, if you dream about tiles, maybe you can save on something else? Also: a lot depends on what surface you need them on, because a few decorative tiles above the countertop in the kitchen are still a reasonable expense, the entire bathroom can be a crazy sum though
@@MaraMara89 Hahah luckily (or maybe sadly) I am not yet in the position of buying and apartment or house to renovate... even though for the time frame, these Tiles would very neatly fit into my parents house (build 1905/06). The - serious - efforts of buying a home still have like ... three years to four years to cook for me, which is hopefully the time frame it takes for me to secure my "forever job". This type of tile absolutely would be a highlight for the kitchen, or a single wall in the bathroom for me, a whole bathroom would be crazy, yeah! From the actual real-life applications I have seen (mainly in Berlin) the usual place where you would find tiles that nice would be the hallway or stairwell. That would also be a crazy big area to cover. I also really like 70s Tiles, Maybe I should start to keep an eye out for a home that just has genuine ones xD they are much easier to find!
My parents bought a house that was built in 1959. It had jade green tile, edged in black, around the bathtub area. A similar design, and idea, to what you have planned for your bathroom, as well. I love those tiles and the vintage look they provide. Can't wait to see how your beautiful flat is coming together !
I`m from Ukraine and I really like your content. I am also grateful for the fact that you are helping my people in such difficult times. Thank you so much!
I am so excited for you and your flat. Between your impeccable taste and love and appreciation for vintage/historical features, it's going to be incredible. Please film a faux/sarcastic AD tour when it's all finished
When my parents bought their old farmhouse, my grandmother broke down crying when she saw the state of it bc it looked so bad. Remoddeling is always rough but also so rewarding, when the vision one saw in it comes through.
It's so excited to see how your flat is coming along! Also, you probably weren't going for this but your hair is GORGEOUS 70s chic. You look *amazing*. I have pictures of my mom with the exact same hairstyle from the late 70s. Also, I'm obsessed with your itty bitty teeny weenie sink. Literally the cutest thing ever.
I wanted to know if she had to deal with splashout with the tall faucet or if it worked out ok. I love this process video too. I have to wait a real. Long. Time. For reno projects since I have to save up and do them myself. So had to learn to appreciate the original look a lot of times. It taught me to be careful with my changes though. This video is teaching me to dream a little bigger maybe though.
Can’t wait to see the Meme Flat take shape! Maybe once it is finished you could take stills where we can see the windows but a convenient island vista covering up where you live with photoshop!
"Well, hello there kitty" and "Kitty, can you not?" made me laugh. As someone who has always had a cat (or two), I understand the cat's "willingness to help." 😊 The new place is looking AMAZING, by the way!!!
HOLY CRAP! I literally JUST finished rewatching the first flat video because we hadn't gotten an update in a while, so I figured the best I could do was try to give you more ad revenue to fund the renovation. When I saw the notification, I genuinely thought UA-cam was telling me to watch the first video again 😂. I'm so excited!!!
This place is going to be a real time machine when it's finished. Like entering a new 1920s urban apartment before going to a decadent party and drinking absinthe, and I absolutely love it!!!
I never knew I was a fan of remodelation until I started watching this mini-series & then had to look up home remodeling videos because it just made me too invested. Maaan, it seems like too much work for me, but living in a place were every detail is fit to your taste must be so soothing.
WOW - so pleased for you..really I am. It brings back happy memories of us renovating our post war derelect. It took over a decade of living in various stages of lock up- but totally worth it. You have vision and prepared to compromise AND do hard work. You will NEVER regret what youve done! So so happy for you.
It's going to be gorgeous. I had a 1929 house and now have a 1939 house and I can appreciate both the trouble with renovation (asbestos!) and the joy of original fixtures (curved art deco cabinets!) you're going through.
As for the plastic light switches, if you really hate them you can switch them out a few at a time. If you do it over several years it won't hurt your pocket book as much. Beautiful floor.
Maybe look to see if you can get a toilet with a sink on top of the tank that runs into the tank. I saw these in Japan. Perfect for tiny space. Maybe you could have a wooden lid made for the toilet tank that could hold that tiny sink. Your flat is looking to light and open! Just beautiful! And the choice for tile and design for the tub/bath room is So classy!
The fact you are simultaneously helping people from a War torn country and renovating increases my respect for you Karolina. Edit: Also vibin at the fact that you and Bernadette Banner have such such great homes warms my heart
I almost feel relief for the building that you were the one who moved into it. Like, there are so few people who would pour in so much love and work and authenticity that this place deserves, and you and this flat are so lucky to have found each other!
I renovated my home in 2019 located 60km outside of Sydney CBD, Australia. It was built in 1949 and I kept as much original, and period appropriate, as I could. I love seeing you do the same. There’s not enough of us. Long live beautiful old buildings❣️ Can’t wait to see the next update 💝
This series is so perfectly timed for me. We're building a triplex right now and I have never ever in my life dealt with so many decisions I am unprepared for. Also floored by how much like...lightswitches... are
I have a childhood friend who bought a triplex with her partner shortly after their marriage, and after 2 years of renovations and 10 years of renting two of the units out, she told me that those little details raise the property value IMMENSELY. We love to live in homes that feel at least a little luxurious, but full-blown home renovations like this are SO EXPENSIVE! Switches are small things, and can always be changed once your financial situation levels out a bit more after all the major things are handled. Good luck with your renovations! ❤️
Any building or remodeling project takes longer and more money than people usually bargain for. Your home is coming along beautifully. Thanks for sharing the journey with us. :)
As a non-architect nor interior designer, but someone DEEPLY interested in the subject, especially for historical buildings, I totally understand your wishes and your frustrations when it comes to renovation. Just believe in the final result and keep motivated! It's looking beautiful already!
Interior design w Twoim wydaniu to będzie coś!
If you need any help renovating and remodeling, I can give you some solicited advice. My mom and dad got their degrees in interior design and architecture, respectively. After their divorce when I was five, they both began their own licensed renovation and remodeling companies. My dad's was focused on larger projects, like fixing whole houses. Contractor stuff. My mom's was focused on smaller projects, like business lobbies and murals. I remember she once created a giant mural on the ceiling of a local small business. That business? A pizza place. The mural design? Wolves howling at the moon. I don't know why the owner chose that. I just know they were giddy when they saw it after she finished. She was his version of Michaelangelo. They carried me along with them a lot to a number of job sites, carried home some project pieces to work on in the garage (one night leaving my dad with one less finger than is usual because as it turns out, sleepiness and electric saws for stone cutting don't mix well) and lent me illustrated and expository books, catalogs, and sample-books of styles, uses, materials, costs, sourcing, etc. I kind of grew up in the shit. The Great Recession and its real estate crisis hit them hard and they never fully recovered. After I became an adult, I spent less time with them, but I've learned some new things on my own. I'm now estranged from my family now, so I may be less help than I would hope.
Girl, you are such an inspiration to me! I love the 1930s in every way, from clothing to architecture and seeing the process you have gone through is just wonderful. I love that you're sticking to your guns and trying to stay true to the original model of the apartment! Seriously soooo inspiring. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us!
@ 6:32 i tried not to stop the video just for this but YOUR HAIR IS SO GORGEOUS LIKE THAT OH MY GOD (you're always gorgeous but omg its like we dont see your hair Down like that very often i dont think and its so beautifulllll)
Thank you for respecting and preserving the 1930's history of the flat. Your renovation looks amazing and I'm looking forward to seeing how you will decorate!
I have been BEYOND excited to see updates, I've watched the first vid a bunch of times. Can't wait to have a whole Remodeling With Karolina playlist haha. It looks so good already!
There is always a moment in renovating, where it’s like nothing happens and then boom - we did so much work. Keep up, it’s going to be great at the end.
Oh my goodness, all of this progress is really exciting! The tile, and those wood floors...it all looks gorgeous. Also, I fully squealed "it's so cute!!" when you revealed the Tiny Sink.
wow it's so interesting to see this and the specific character of an older Polish apartment.... so freaking cool. Those tiles and the flooring are absolutely gorgeous. And how satisfying when much of the heavy work sort of snapped from slow and rough to looking tidy and more finished! Really excited to see more of the process so thank you so much for sharing!
If you want to do something creative for your bathroom vanity (I know you do!), you could try to find an old wood dresser or cabinet that fits your space, and drill a hole in the top to put a vessel sink on top of it. It would look like a wash basin / bowl which might work well with the older style you're designing for.
Unfortunately it is NOT a good idea. It will work ok if you have large and very well ventilated bathroom. And have "people" doing cleaning and maintenance.... Otherwise wooden dresser will warp first and start to crack... And be a very good breading ground for all the things you don't want. For a small bathroom like this it's much better/sane idea to go on with standard bathroom cabinets because of the materials, prices and standard sizes. You wallet will thank you today and when you decide to update it.
@@SimFoxSim I've seen it done well, and doing one myself. You can seal it with epoxy or just a layer of paint quite well. It's no worse than fibreboard.
I love those green walls! And it's great that you've kept as many of the original features as possible. I can't wait to see the chandelier installed! 💎
The doorbell is so cool. I remember when we redid our kitchen we found a piece of the old 1939 art deco linoleum under the fridge and I couldn't figure out why anyone would replace that with the hideous vinyl that was there when we moved in. My biggest recommendation on decorating is to go slow. You've had loads of time to think about it, but until you actually live in the space for a bit, it can be difficult to know what you really want/need. I agree that wall next to the door should be jadite green (the color you used as a matte in the video would be perfect). Looks like a beautiful sunny flat. I hope you are happy there many years!
I have a request. When you get your windows done, I would love to see how they look. Maybe hang a sheet on the outside of the window to protect from "creeps" seeing where you live? Thanks, love the content as usual.
I am going through renovations currently too. I'm at the finishing line (hahahaha...) but those vids still fill me with anxiety, dread and impending doom. Good luck with everything!
Those bathroom tiles look so nice. With renovation, all the base work takes a lot of time when it is done perfectly and it really looks like nothing is happening but ones you reach the point when you are making the visible work all goes ahead pretty fast. I hope you find the bathroom cabinet/make it from scratch that fits fine. Looking forward to the next reveal video.
Aww so nice to see progress. I can't wait to see the decorating part! Just looking at your tiling for the bathroom and the few bits you showed, I am sure it will look absolutely stunning
I didn't know that I needed the image of Karolina "swimming" on her new parquet floors in my head. But when I think of joy and contentment, I will use that as a reference GIF.
When I saw the tiny sink for the toilet room, I'm hoping you use it on top of the toilet tank to reuse sink water for flushing. It's more common in Japan, and a really cool easy way to save water! Not vintage of course but I love the idea and wish I saw it more often everywhere!
I love ALL your choices! I cannot wait to see it all completed. And, see if your contractor can modify one of the cabinets that you already bought, to make the sink work. It would save a lot of time and headaches as you already have the material!
I am really no archtiect or designer or at least a diy girl. But I LOVE your videos and the feeling you transport to me through the screen. For me its kinda inspiration to dream, be creative and believe in good work pay out and good things do happen also today.
The flat looks beautiful! Your choice of tiles is also impeccable - classy and timeless, but not boring! Also renovations always take very long for the "visible" changes to start happening.
I’ve been loving the flat series! but I absolutely adore your hairstyle in the red outfit you wore at the end of the video. so if you ever had time I would love a tutorial on that look! It was such an iconic outfit for the era.
I'm so glad for you. I recently bought and 1867 flat, and my father and I are the ones who are renovating it. And is so frustrating being so slow. I'm glad to see you bought a Roca bath or WC. One of the factories where they are produced is like 30 minutes away my hometown 😊 Here, for going to the loo we say "excuse me, I'm going to visit Mr. Roca" 🤣
Great job with rather restoring that flat instead of doing out of it generic flat. 💜 My friend from Prague has bought flat in panelák or how you call it in Poland "wielka płyta", that was built in early 60s (G57 series = Gotwaldov 1957), it still has original doors, wooden windows , floor and storage cabinet in entry hall. I actually loved as it looks more like "active museum of socialistic architecture"
We have like three weeks to do all the work with new flat, because there is no time. So watching slow remodeling videos now really helps with simple breathing. Green walls are so beautiful!
I have been following your remodel. When you first bought the flat, I admit I could NOT see the vision. But now! I am so excited for you. It's coming together sooooo nicely!

First works, especially in an old interior, are long lasting and pracically invisible. But very important. That's totally normal 👍
Good luck with further works!

I just moved into a 1960s flat I started renovating in January.
Darling, I feel every second of this.
Especially the “not much happened” part
We just redid our kitchen and gosh, if this isn't true, nothing is. It feels like we've spent more time waiting for inspections than actual work.
We’re in the process of building a house and my standard response if someone asks how it’s going is to shrug and say “goes great when someone shows up”
yes - same. I finally felt that I am not alone in my pain.
Renovating an apartment since last September. It has been 14 months :(
I renovated a SHED! And took more than a YEAR!
Totally, I love how real Karolina is. She even showed the gross worm corpses!
@@SchlichteToven That's why i really like her as a UA-camr
Cheers!
It's Maria Skłodowska-Curie. She purposefully used her polish surname and was patriotic, respect her wishes.
@@langustajableczna Thanks for informing me about that. I will edit my comment accordingly!
Oh, THAT's why?? Geez Louise. I was so sad to not see the new windows... I never thought about that. Gross. This is why we can't have nice things.

But I guess she wants to be able to see through the window...just not to show the view/location on UA-cam
I just did that for a big window by my kitchen table. I picked a blue/ green stained glass pattern window cling. It looks colorful, and most importantly, blocks out a less than nice view.
I LOVE my window clings!!! I have some in a pattern that are faux leaded glass and they've been so great.
I worked hard to find old bakelite switches...going to salvage yards and renovating them. Losads of time and patience. 5 years later...they brought them out NEW!!!! So some have been replaced by new ones, and i heard the company that makes them is also planning USB charging ports in them too. But i wont hold my breath. Karolina: my grandpa still doesn’t have a bathroom sink cuz he’s like, the bathtub is fine for that
Also Karolina: I don’t need a bathroom sink I can just wash my hands in the tub
Your choices for finishes are perfect! I love your aesthetic. Bradbury & Bradbury has lines of reproduction wallpaper from the 1920s - 1940s you might be interested in. Can't wait to see the finished apartment.
I really like that you made a pattern with the tiles, would love to see more of it. Curious to see how you finish it :)
I also really like 70s Tiles, Maybe I should start to keep an eye out for a home that just has genuine ones xD they are much easier to find!
oh my god i checked this manufacturer and they are INSANE

It's so excited to see how your flat is coming along! Also, you probably weren't going for this but your hair is GORGEOUS 70s chic. You look *amazing*.

I never knew I was a fan of remodelation until I started watching this mini-series & then had to look up home remodeling videos because it just made me too invested. Maaan, it seems like too much work for me, but living in a place were every detail is fit to your taste must be so soothing.
I watched the "Potter house" series by curiosity Inc here on UA-cam about also a 1930s house (as far as I remember) and it was addictive!
Yasss aasbestos
Edit:
Also vibin at the fact that you and Bernadette Banner have such such great homes warms my heart

Renovation is always so satisfying but so HARD. That living/dining room FLOOR THO 😍😍😍😍
The renovation is amazing, and as an architekt, I can tell - you've made a super job.Thank you so much for helping ukrainian refugees 🇵🇱❤️🇺🇦
Since you couldn’t show the windows bc of privacy reasons, I just imagined them in my head and I have to say, they look great!

5:26 here. right there. your hairstyle is EVERYTHING
It's no worse than fibreboard.

this looks like quality work!, so refreshing after i watched way to many US reno's, good luck with the fun part!
This series is brilliant! So heartwarming to see someone actually preserving a piece of history to live in. ♥️
My heart skipped a beat when I saw your beautiful herringbone parquet flooring! best floor ever!
YES HERRINGBONE WOOD FLOORS! I love that style so much. 1000% putting them in my dream home someday. For sure. Love them in your apartment!
I’ve been so excited for part 2!

Currently renovating a 1859 flat, half of which was lastly renovated before the second WW and the other part during the Eighties. I feel ya.
