    My mom had 2 pieces of advice for anything I made that others were going to see. First was "it can't be seen from a galloping horse" meaning most people look at things in passing, so they're not going to look close and see your mistakes. Second was "if they're looking for your mistakes, they don't like you." I think that one is obvious. A third, for free "finished is better than perfect" because at least it's done, but it was never going to be perfect.
    I think your makeover looks great, little flaws and all ❤

    peak 70s-90s design was to have two or three different shades of the same color in a room. the shade of each wall was determined by how the light hit the room, and as a result everything looked the same color in the end. it was considered very high design!

    • @AlexaFaie
      @AlexaFaie Місяць тому +31

      Exactly! They didn't really do wooden frames for that section, it was leaded strips to hold the panes together and the lead lines got super drippy & messy. So weirdly the roughness actually works in its favour here in making them look more realistic. If they had been perfectly straight then they'd have looked more like the mock tudor houses that they make fun of in L.A. Story (dunno if you've seen the film, but its a classic.)

Hang up some stained wood planks for shelving and fill it up with a bunch of the cool looking bottles and jars, go nuts with candles and more of those fake plants, hang up magical looking sketches and diagrams around the space... Omg the medicinal properties of this video as I’m battling the plague in bed are absolutely ✨🙌🏽magical🙌🏽✨
    My husband and I are doing a barn conversion for our first home and we want to go pretty primitive with the decor. The main colour I picked out is called Castle and it looks just like this. I planned on washing it on and weathering it too lol. Your process and getting to visualise it…. Absolute chef’s kiss 🤌🏽✨ you’re a gem, m’lady. My fever addled brain thanks you.

    Hoi Rachel, I thought of a handy dandy tip if your not happy with the window lattice. If you go to any garden centre (or on amazon/ online) you can get a collapsible plant/ garden lattice. Just have to paint it and stick it in your window and voila ❤❤❤

    When you said, "Some day, eventually, it'll be where I want it," I actually laughed out loud. It will NEVER reach that point, because your brain will keep adding new things that it wants, or ways it could be just a liiiiiittle better... but that's okay, it's part of why we love you!🥰❤ (Not to mention, aren't all of us artsy-craftsy people like that? Nothing is ever *really* done, lol.)

    in my childhood lamp store there was a small room for lampshades. that was the treasure. so I wandered around, amazed by all the lights, and then, the secret room! in which I could be NOT PERCIEVED! Oh, such enjoyment. I am to this day, quite obsessed with lamps and there shades.

    Your barn is looking great! I love doing random renovations/home DIYs. I’m currently teaching myself how to make stained glass because I’m building a built-in in an existing empty niche in my living room and decided it also needs art deco style stained glass doors that match the original finish elements around the house, it brings me so much joy!

    It looks SO GOOD! (Also, if you ever decide to redo the window "leading", try looking into expandable trellis panels. They're usually made out of willow, and are hinged at the points of the diamonds so that you can expand them to fit the necessary space.)

    OK, _WHY_ the pause for the RAIN, you may ask.
    Likely because here in southern New England, _we hadn't had any for about 100 days and it really began to worry everyone._
    That rain, though not lasting long enough, was _SO WELCOME...!!_
    Rachel, you do so much WORK, and it's always wonderful to watch and so much _FUN!!_ THANK YOU!

    Rachel doesn't know how often she saved me. I am a taurus and my brain functions really similar to hers and hearing her say "I am a taurus. If I don't surround myself with whimsy, I WILL die." was so kathartic to me because I feel exactly the same and people often don't get that.
    Last week I cried for three whole days because someone told me AGAIN that my flat is too full of things, too weird, that I have too much stuff and do too much. It stirred up some nasty wounds from my childhood. Coming here and hearing "Imma do more, sorry not sorry" from Rachel is for me that bear hug she spoke of, that we all want and need.

(Even if you only mentally tell them that, haha) You keep doing you! If it isn’t hurting you or others, it’s really not a big deal like some people will make it out to be! ❤️

    The barrel cabinet is great! It might be possible to air it out by taking it outside and leaving the doors open for a couple of days, but it's already installed, so, never mind that. Also, considering the porous nature of wood, the smell might be permanent. The whole barn looks fun, whimsical and cozy, just as intended! I've seen lamps like that snail before; very sweet.

  • @craisins95

  • @mahtra.2372
    @mahtra.2372 Місяць тому

    If you want to story something in the trunks: place them agains a wall. Screw shelf brackets into the wall, so that you have about 1/2 inch space between then trunks. You can either place the trunks directly on the shelf brackets or make the wooden boards just as long as the trunk.
    That way, if you want to get something out of a lower trunk, you can just pull that one out, while the others stay in place and the optics of stacked trunks remains.

    The thing about us aesthetic, crafty, chaos people is that we have to live somewhere a while and build up the space over time. This barn is a perfect example of that!
