Painting High Stairwell - Homemade Platform

- Chaz shows you how to build a painting platform for your extension ladder to use in a stairwell. You can't set a ladder on uneven stairs and buying a commercial grade platform online can be expensive, build your own for under $20 and do it yourself.

This is so sketchy looking! I’ve been working as a contractor for years but this is the sketchiest setup I’ve seen for a stairwell yet. you would have been a million times safer if you wouldn’t have involved the ropes and harness. The platform is fine if you only have a straight ladder but your best bet is to get an adjustable step ladder like a Little Giant. For a small project like this you could even return it when your done to get your money back, but I’d recommend keeping it as it’s more useful to the average homeowner than an extension ladder. Stay safe
It worked out and hopefully never have to use again because I’m never repainting this house before I drop dead. Thanks for watching!
great job Chaz .. I see they are selling this tool now .!
Like the idea
It worked like a champ. Many people on here hating the idea so it’s not for everyone, use at your own risk ⚠️. If you’re steady and build it correctly it’ll get the job done.
I built that platform a year ago and worked like a charm. Since there was a long way down the stairs to the next wall I took a long rope and tied it to a door hinge up top after I put a three inch screw into the center home into the framing. At that point the ladder could not slide towards the low side.
Very happy to find this video!
Glad you survived the paint job, thanks for watching!
Wow, creative but sketchy. Much safer to not be tied off to the top of the ladder, tho. Love the videos,
Hi! As a lady who cleans her own guttering and other things, thanks for your help.
Remember to measure twice and cut once! Be careful and good luck with your project.
People who don’t want to use any safety hate this guy
I know right?! My ladder is tied off tight in opposite directions so it can’t move an inch, if I happen to fall I’m strapped in AND I’m wearing a freakin helmet! I guess the complainers prefer to just plummet to the floor and compound fracture everything. Thanks for watching and the comment!
I need to make that platform and make it wider and more adjustable 😊 not all steps are the same height, thanks for sharing the video.
Good luck!
@@ProjectswithChaz Get a few pieces of boards and level it up accordingly. You dont have to nail it.
U da bomb!
Thanks for watching, now don’t fall off your ladder!
Man you just got to get good at cutting in with a brush on a pole, and just be patient for that little 10-foot section
Never thought of that! Great idea, I’ll have to skip coffee that day if I ever try your technique. Thanks for viewing.
Hooking yourself on a ladder is more dangerous, if you fall you will pull the ladder on top of you.
That’s why I have the ladder tied off in each direction so that it wouldn’t fall if I fell, luckily I didn’t have to test my safety protocols all ended well.
@@ProjectswithChaz I don't know it's very heavy ladder, maybe you trust your safety precautions too much.
Really wtf did he think would happen if he fell... the banisters definitely aren't gonna hold a 200 lb gorrilla.. so the ladder and banisters would fall on top of him
@@druj5424 Stair banisters hold at a minimum 200lbs and breaking my fall vs a dead drop is preferable to me, if you like your odds plummeting 20ft without a break in your fall good luck with that and your wheelchair. Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectswithChaz by the look of things you're over 200lbs. Plus the ladder.. not to mention the force of that weight falling and jerking. It would have been ugly. I get not wanting to admit when you do something dumb.. but pretending this is safe is crazy
Thank you for that that is what i was thinking the other day when a friend called me to help her out and paint a vaulted ceiling going up the stairs so the first thing i did is looked it up on youtube and God bless you you came up and save me and it worked great and made me like like a hero thank you i give you the credit
Glad that I could help! If you haven't already please subscribe to my channel and maybe you can utilize another one of my crazy project tutorials in the future. Thanks, Chaz
Absolutely insane…….. pls do not replicate too dangerous
It’s sturdy as $h#t and you can buy something almost identical on Amazon for $200. The people can decide for themselves, thanks for watching!
omg thats a bit extreme wi the helmet on yer heed you must no be good on ladder for you to be tied everywhere
Safety first! If an accident did occur I wanted the best odds of not plummeting to the floor resulting in me eating from a straw for the rest of my life. Thanks for watching! 😀
Watch out, you don’t have stability if the angle of the ladder is decreased.
Hello James, I think the angle across the width of stairs was sufficient for our ceiling height, a higher ceiling might be an issue as you suggest, thanks for the comment.
I agree with James that the ladder is prone to falling backwards when you are on it. I'd drive a support into the wall in front of the ladder so that you can tie off to that and dispense with all the other tie offs. When you are done, patching that hole would be light work. An eye bolt driven into a stud behind the drywall would be good.
Pretty dumb and unsafe
How?
You can actually buy on Amazon ($100+) what I just built for $10 meant specifically for painting stairwells.
Very smart and sturdy.
I'm in the UK and yes something similar on amazon here for near £100 pounds!
So Thankyou this vid is just what I was looking for before hiring someone to paint my stairwell.
👍👍👍
Lol
