I was a roofer for 15 years so I have used something similar for ladders on hillsides and stairs. One thing I would add to your design is a lip or a bracket that would stop the feet from sliding. Also if you are going to use this outside without a wall to stop it from moving I would add something to anchor it to the ground. The higher up you climb the more the ladder will want to slide.

I have a simple solution to that ( if carpet only): drill 2-3 sturdy screws through the horizontal board and let them poke or bottom about 1/4 inch. It'll provide a slip grip.

I made a similar step when decorating a hallway. For added security, I screwed it to the staircase stringer and like some other comments put a lip on the downhill side to prevent lateral slippage, rock solid.

great video! i dont have any carpentry or wood working skills but i managed to build one of my own wood platforms, and put the ladder on top of it to reach a light fixture in the hallway. the key is to put the platform on the opposite side of the wall that you plan on climbing. really appreciate you posting this video

Great, simple, and easy to make solution. I just bought a triple ladder with a "stair function" (ie. it can fold out into an offset A frame shape), to paint our stairwell. it doesn't get me anywhere near high enough; and it's incredibly dangerous too! I'm taking it back to the shop; and I'm going to make one of these instead! Thanks so much.

Hire a long ladder and get someone to hold the bottom. Also, make sure you don’t suffer from vertigo. Alternatively, get some scaffolding erected or hire a mini tower, if you are not tight for💰

Hmmm??!!!! I really don't like those drywall screws for structural stuff as they are too brittle and will snap under load. Us wood screws and glue for that stair extension and apply a non-slip surface like a scrap of carper glued to the top and rubber feet on the bottom so that it does not slip on the stairs.

Not hating, I would suggest using thick planks of 2x8, 2x10, or 2x12 boards, then use thicker deck screws or 12d or 16d nails. Your angle brace needs to be thicker as well. Half inch or 5/8 plywood. No particle board. Then you could paint the finished product and add some sand into the paint for traction control. I say all of this because everything I build, I have to bullet proof for the idiots/moron employees. They can tear up steel ball bearings!
