  • This ladder platform is perfect for working and painting on steps or hills when trying to reach high places, such as a foyer, and walls. A perfect and safe platform for setting a ladder on when working off of steps or on a slope when painting the exterior/interior of your home.

Great video just made one with new materials, Home Depot $24.00 just hung my light, and primed walls. Worked excellent....Thanks for the video

Thanks for the video. My only suggestion would be to not use MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) for your platform. MDF is great for counter tops, and is very flat and heavy, but has very poor structural strength - It would not take much weight to cause the MDF to crack/collapse. Recommend using 3/4" Plywood instead, which is stronger, and typically less expensive than MDF anyway.

for those of us on regular stairs with riser board, build out three steps or four, stand the ladder to the back to avoid rocking back

Most all stairs have no gaps, so a ladder with an adjustable leg height is needed and probably the best and quickest solution

Yes you are correct. This was an issue for steps that didn't have riser and for a home that didn't have an adjustable ladder.

Came across this here old video while looking for something exactly like this (thought I had just suddenly invented this...), so, it's nice to know there are others out there thinking like me...but here's my problem, though I'll manage to figure it out, my staircase doesn't have the open space between the steps, so now what!? I will design something though...thanks for this video though because it helps with getting my creativity goin'...

Just wish this design was adapted to regular stairs instead of open stairs.

For a home owner works very good , you build and save it, but for a contract it would add up to the job. There's a leg leveler that can be purchased from home depot or so.I used to make my leveler with 2x4 . Drill few 1/4 inch holes in each side of the ladder which wont weak it up. Every time you get a situation like that just screw a piece of 2x4, use it and remove. That's simple.

Good job, well done.Add a board at the top of ladder wider than the studs. That way the ladder want break the sheetrock.

    Great idea!
I suggest some changes because there are issues with the original design.
1 Insert x member between the legs - not a boxframe
2 Install small diagonal brace to prevent platform from tilting away from stairs
3 Install small nails on underside of platform to grip on carpet & prevent the platform base from sliding
4 In an open staircase application, install an L-bracket to grip against the back of the stair to prevent slippage

No gusseting. Sure the load is going straight through the legs, but I would feel a lot better if those support legs were gusseted to the platform. Just a simple right triangle on the sides with some more of that leftover MDF and a little glue to weld it all up. Below, I see wowza1211 suggested plywood. Heck yeah, lighter to carry, lighter on the wallet, and stronger.

Plank, one end resting on upper step, other end on A-frame ladder at base of steps. Works in most cases. But your platform will definitely suit the other 20% of situations.

Only problem is that most stares, at least that I've seen over the years, have risers where you have gaps.

Great idea but I wouldn't trust MDF to hold the ladder.

That second bracing board would be much stronger if it was vertical instead of horizontal.

Make it adjustable for different step heights and ladder base widths, put it on Amazon and I'll buy one.

    Most stairs have risers.

  • @savedby_faith

Ya that's nice but I need one that will reach about ten stairs down. The legs need to be at least 6 feet tall, maybe even to sit on the bottom step, and the platform sitting on the top floor. Something like a 15 foot cat walk. :)
