What I've read is that the band originally thought that the curse would stop once they finished the album, but things got so bad that Omar had enough, took the board (which I've also read being called a spirit board) out to the dessert, snapped it in half over his knee, and buried it. Cedric and Omar agreed to never disclose the location of the remains of the board. As far as I know, the curse ended then.
@@PillClinton Of course it was bigger than his knee, did you mean it was longer than his arm span so he couldn't have held it and smashed it over his knee? Just how big do you think it was?
God damn, this was a VERY interesting interpretation of the story. I think this one might be my favorite one so far that I’ve heard. I’m really glad that someone on UA-cam finally decided to share their own vision of TBIG’s narrative. Good shit.
I did a video essay explaining the alleged curse revolving around the album a few years ago, and it was a very fun video to write about. You did a great job explaining the album and its story! Great work!!
I am super skeptical when it comes to these sorts of things, I don't believe at all that they were cursed or speaking to demons, but I think it's a cool story regardless and even cooler that they took this weird experience and turned it into an album. While I love The Mars Volta, this is an album that never fully clicked for me, I am not sure what it is about it either, maybe one of these days it will suddenly land on my ear the right way. Either way I loved your breakdown of the story, I always appreciate the work you do in these videos!
After all these years Bedlam is their best LP in my opinion. I completely wore out Deloused and Frances the Mute is way too indulgent with the interludes.
I enjoyed the interpretation! I revisited this album after reading a book that reminded me of the album. If you’re into horror, the book is Piñata by Leopoldo Gout 👍🏽
These mars volta album story explanations are wonderful. I would be very interested to know the story behind Octohedron. It was the first album I got into by TMV.
If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure that the new self-titled album is also technically a concept album, it's specifically about Cedric dealing with Scientology.
I just discovered the story about this album and its nuts xD I don't really believe in this type of stuff, but when someone really believes in spirits and such they might really think something it's haunting them when everything is in their heads. I think Cedric has a family that practises Santeria, for what I saw in another videos, and they also included some rythms inside the album for ending the curse. They just had some bad luck I guess, some people believe it's marketing... Thanks a lot for sharing, I was very curious about the background of this album since I love these kind of stories, I am a big Mars Volta fan. I also love Coheed, glad to see the merch behind you! Cheers :D Sorry if I made mistakes btw, English isn't my mother language.
@@JJMetalhead It might be true, but who knows XD, they were Cuban from what I read, so they were some uncle/aunt or cousin side family... things get blurry haha. They seem to be pretty spiritual anyway so it might make sense.
Aparently after recording was done. They hope goliaths hunger could be satisfied by making the album the vessel for new souls. Thats why they made the vinyl version as a spirit board when gully opened, and the extra 7 inch is a planchet called Mr. Nuggs.
Coheed and TMV?! Now i know I'm with kindred spirits..Have you been able to see them on the new tour yet? I saw them in Chicago in October and I'm debating between Cleveland and Cincy this fall
Yo i been trying to piece together what the album been talking about since it came out. Frances and deloused had some sort of clarity. This always a huge puzzle that i loved to try to crack. The music is peak volta. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated
Lol welcome to my life. I look at genius lyrics probably every other day. I have an obsession with finding out the "truth" or "inspiration" behind lyrics.
These guys said all that around this album just to paint a picture, I don't believe everything they claimed happened at the time really happened at all, perhaps there are some small parts that are true, yes, but truely exaggerated them on purpose
Wait. Assuming this is what really happened and wasn't imbelished by Cedric, the Tourniquet Man was a real person and the murder of his entire cult really happened. So who is the Tourniquet Man, is this an event that really happened in Agadez?
I believe much of the lyrics for Tourniquet man an other tracks on the album were inspired by Jim Jones and the Jonestown massacre. I could be wrong but that’s my take on it.
When you read about Cedric’s conflicts with Scientology, the cult aspects of The Bedlam in Goliath take on a new meaning
One of the greatest bands af all time.

Oh. Well maybe the curse stopped after finishing the album or tour in support of the album.
Seems like it wouldn't be easy to snap over a knee
@@gretre4560 Wish we had it on video, sounds epic. He had just had it with that thing.
The board is bigger than omars knee. Did he get a running start?
@@PillClinton Of course it was bigger than his knee, did you mean it was longer than his arm span so he couldn't have held it and smashed it over his knee? Just how big do you think it was?
I think this is their best record. It has had the most staying power for me, and as a front to back listening experience it holds up best

@@adainitymusic5013 I do love horror novels! I’ll have to check that one out. Thank you for the recommendation:)

I think you just made me want to look in to TMV. Never gave them much of a chance, but this sounds pretty damn rad.
They are sort of an acquired taste for some people, but I hope you give them a try!
The refrain in Goliath “Never heard a man speak like this man before…” is a reference to a song a woman wrote about Charles Manson.
Fascinating! I had thought that particular line was about Jim Jones, but this is better.
It’s also from the bible
I didn’t know Bedlam was a concept album. I only thought Deloused and Frances the Mute were.

I did not know that! Thank you for sharing. Call me superstitious, but I would be hesitant to have the vinyl in my house.
Gravity's Union
Suffering
Old Flames

I saw them last September! It was a mind blowing experience!
God this album rules so hard, Goliath is such a monster track.
Epic break down, but can we get unleash the archers?
Which UTA albums would you like me to cover?

This video exceeded my expectations which were already high due to your previous mars volta vids. Hell yeah from me
Glad I could help, thank you for watching!!
Yay!
A lot of the albums you cover have me constantly going to genius to figure out what the lyrics mean lmao
