Sim racing feels like it's in a really good place and I'm sure it will continue to grow. I've noticed from the reddit more and more people getting involved with the hobby and posting about their sim racing addiction which anyone that has gotten into the hobby can easily relate to. Having fresh faces come into the space I feel brings in new ideas across the different aspects being both hardware and software.

All I want is for Sony and Microsoft to give more dd bases their licensing. It would help the whole community as a whole and pull in a lot more of newer folk to enter into sim racing. As always, whatever your platform, whatever game, happy racing my fellow sim racers.

    • @tamto6328
      @tamto6328 2 місяці тому

As a lifelong player of the GT series since day one, I would still say DD bases are still a niche platform. Until the prices fall below 500-600 for the wheelbase, I don't see the GT fanbase will be switching to them. Fanatech and Logitech pretty much have the high and low end market covered.

    • @ShawnHinck
      @ShawnHinck 2 місяці тому

I don’t think it’s so much a matter of them not giving the licensing so much as other companies really not focusing on their products being licensed. It seems like whenever a company submits products to be licensed they seem to get it, it just takes a while and is a royal Headache and as a result, most companies just don’t wanna do it. It would be nice to see more licensed wheels and DD bases but when you’re dealing with a third-party large company like Sony and Microsoft, it’s really never going to be easy.

Another point you somewhat talked about, but this is probably the first console generation that you can actually Sim race on. You no longer need a 1000 dollar computer and a 1000 dollar wheel and pedal set, you can plug almost any wheel into an Xbox or PS5 and have a lot of fun. The competitive side isn't as big yet, but it will be

As much as l love the modern sims they have all become a little bit more sterile in comparison.

AMS2 was the best thing I found at the end of last year. I have to thank Forza for reigniting my interest in the genre, having fallen out for 5-6 years. Its catastrophic failure pointed me to the absolute magic that is a full direct drive setup and all of the magic contained in just AC, ACC, AMS2, and iRacing.

Good luck with the new channel! I've been doing a big mix of gaming content on my current channel, and it feels like I've never "broken through the algorithm" so far, so I recently made an exploratory motorsports-specific channel to see if sticking with a consistent topic and using only G-rated language helps. Hopefully it works out for both of us.
I'm pretty new to sim racing, and you were one of the first channels I checked out. Got a Logitech G920 a while back, it collected dust for two years and I finally found the time to set it up, and I was floored. I'm 31 and I don't drive, got the wheel to maybe see if cars can click for my sperg brain if I mixed them with video games, and it worked. Assetto Corsa Shutoko Revival Mod laps changed my brain wiring fast, and now I'm over 50 hours into Gran Turismo 7(controller-only, sadly) and I feel like I've been totally car-pilled. Went from zero interest to watching car documentaries and streamers all the time. Upgraded to a Cammus C5 a couple months back and I plan to get the Simagic P1000 pedals with two or three haptic motors and hydraulics on throttle if I get my annual bonus in May. Starting a little racing league, hanging out with friends while they work on their modded cars IRL, built an aluminum cockpit from RigMetal - my hobby time is dramatically changed, and it's all so stimulating!

Endurance racing is in the new golden era and sims, not just racing sims are definitely in their golden era as well. I don’t think people outside of iRacing and people who actually race cars realize just how big of a deal the tempest system is. It’s no longer just race the dry line but slower and more carefully because grip was reduced by 50% like basically every other sim. It should basically change how rain is implemented in anything wise wanting to be referred to as a race sim

What I think about simracing's state is that yes, we're in such good times. It doesn't matter the way you approach simracing games (whether you play for fun, for glory or self-improvement), the way you play (wheel or controller, it should only matter what you can afford and whatever way you enjoy this hobby), even the amount of platforms you can play them (consoles or PC) are as affordable, as diverse and accessible as we've dreamt of for years... if you so did it. To sum up, I also hope that in the years to come, simracing keeps that momentum for as long as possible

Having been sim-racing since before sim-racing was a thing, I'd agree...but...Its always been the golden age of sim-racing. Yes, What we have now is stunning, but so was The RF1 era, The era of GP4 VS F1C, The GTR mods for the ISI platforms, Rally Championship 2000 and the Colin Mcrae games. Hell, even Pit Stop 2, The original Need for Speed, Indy 500...Its been an upwards trajectory, and every era has been golden. Sure, each era has had its disappointments, but you cant have the good without the bad.

Many people are working on and sharing setups and mods. There are a ton of good youtube/twitch channels and streamers.

I think the reason why not so many people race the other classes in ACC is just that they are locked behind some expensive DLCs and not everybody (including myself) is willing to pay that much money for them, although they may be fun. Another reason is that not many people race these classes so you don´t have a reason to buy these DLCs.

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about this. Yes, we have a good variety of sim's these days, but the same could be said for mid to late 2000's. Back then you had F1 Challenge for F1, GTR2 for GT's, Race 07 for touring cars, NR2003 for NASCAR and rFactor for pretty much anything you might have wanted, and that's only when it comes to PC. And the big thing for pretty much all these sim's was that you could pretty easily mod all of them (which is not really something you could say about modern sim's). Yes, the situation got a little worse in the early - mid 2010's when all those sim's where starting to get outdated and there wasn't anything really new on the horizon (rFactor 2 got it's beta in 2012, AC started it's early access in 2013 and obviously both took quite a while to develop), but even then those older games were stil used quite a bit.
As for the hardware, yes, we have all these new DD's and what not, and they are getting cheaper and cheaper (which is good), but overall, the barrier of entry when it comes to sim racing gear has risen quite a bit. Just 12 years ago I managed to buy Logitech DFGT for less then 100$, and it was a really good wheel for that price point. Anything entry level these days will cost you double that. And with the cost of living these days even this could be too much for some people.
Are we being spoiled these days? Absolutely. But I wouldn't call this the golden age of simracing, cause 15 years ago the situation wasn't really that bad either. It's just that the simracing got a lot more popular these days, and everyone is trying to cash in on it.

The biggest improvement I’d like to see is a more seamless UI and setup process on PC, similar to console titles or the steam deck.
I can plug my Fanatec wheel into the PS5 and everything is logically mapped and it just works. Same for the VR, you can even take it off mid race and everything just works.
Reducing the amount of friction on PC would collectively saves hundreds of hours for all players.

SimRacing is the only genre that get better over the years but keep the foundation and feel of older SimRacing games like GTR2, GT Legends etc. Because SimRacing games are for enthusiast and Nerds. Gaming was ones a hobby for nerds. Games where build for nerds. 30 years ago you get a strange look when you say you are into videogames or "worst" Pc-Gaming. But then gaming grows into the mainstream and many AAA games today are build for a mainstream audiance. But not SimRacing. SimRacing was, is and will always be something only enthusiast and Nerds can enjoy and love.
And thats the reason why you don´t have to look back as a SimRacer to find a game you enjoy and love more than modern games. Because you can play modern games made for nerds.

Sim racing has definitely gotten a lot better over the years, and we've been having a decent streak, but I would absolutely argue we are far from a "Golden Age". The barrier of entry is still a little bit too high, progression based modes as well as dedicated single player content has been seriously lacking as of late which acts as an entry point for a lot of racers, online play has been a mess with a lot of these games and with some of these being so heavily tied to online servers means we will eventually lose access to a lot of these games we've paid for and poured money into, and mod support for these games are either overly complicated at best and completely absent at worst. For a lot of these games, there is no future for them when they lose support, and the underlying issues they have are too vast to ignore. Sure there is a lot good with these games, especially with how well they support the more hardcore audience, but I would never call this a "golden age", that is not what this is. Maybe with AC2 and future releases we will see a lot of these issues being resolved, maybe even through community support, but until then simracing is simply in a good place with active growth. No more, no less.

I would have to disagree on this one. There is no sim racing game that has everything needed to simulate a perfect racing weekend. For example many games are missing rain, rarely any game has a safety car or pit crew, a lot of them don't have any track evolution, there is no good f1 sim racing game, a lot of them have a very basic damage model, there isn't any sim with a comprehensive single player experience... and the list goes on.
While I do enjoy sim racing with the current gen of sim racing games, it is not realistic to call this golden age. But I also don't believe that older games are better than the current gen. I think the best is yet to come.

We have 1 sim with actual worthwhile multiplayer racing. 1. How is that the golden age. I went through the shit process of getting ranked in LFM for ACC. Know how many people signed up to the races last night ? 4 people in one race. Zero in all others.
We have iracing. That’s it. That you can load up and get into races that work with actual people in them and actual progression.

Simracing isnt just multiplayer, nor having no multiplayer makes it a bad sim. LFM has no population issues. unless you are talking US-AU times. During European times it has multiple splits, enduro racing has multiple splits, and this is a free service.
All other sims have been creating competitive services as well free of charge.
A few years ago there was iracing and thats it. Spoiled for choice now.

@@randomcallsign Well I just completely disagree. RF2 has one race in beginner and that’s once an hour. Good luck getting rating up. AMS2 has zero MP. Le Mans is a complete mess so far. This is what I mean. All of those are facts. It’s ok to say yeah there is just about nothing with serious competitive MP. And to act like that’s not important is insane lol. No one on earth races on tracks against no one. That isn’t what racing is. I don’t get why people have to constantly convince themselves otherwise. And what I said about LFM is a fact. I’m sure you can go look for yourself. If it’s 4 people at 7pm on a Saturday in the USA it’s as dead as dead can get.

LFM has 130 teams signed up for the ACC enduro race alone that is happening right now. The next sprint race has 80. Everyone is waiting for nords as well.
On AC front, mazda cup has 45. The twice weekly green hell generally go up to 210 which is the max of the service.
It maybe because sportscar racing isnt that popular in the US. I always have someone to race with in this free service in the hours that I play, generally EU mornings which is not even primetime.

A year ago you made a video saying sim racing was stagnant and not growing due to the high entry cost and the non-user friendly games. I'm glad things are looking better now.
I've seen a lot of new sim racing streamers over the past year including females as well.

We need better single player sim racing games. F1 isnt a sim but the only game that has a "good" career mode.

It is a golden age... if you like GT3. If you don't.. it's the dark ages. Almost all of the major relevant titles are a decade old...the ones that aren't...are GT3.
It is indeed a hardware golden age though. There is top quality gear available out there that we could only dream of 10 years ago. I mean Moza just released a freakin truck wheel. Crazy. But the lack of quality software makes me not want to invest in any new gear at all.
