G27. Still have it, my son uses it after 6 years of me using it, it's a tank, lol. I moved up to the G923 after I tried using the much vaunted Thrustmaster 300RS, had to send the base back in twice in a year due to the power supplies overheating. Never, ever again. I love that I could mod the G923 with a larger steering wheel for under $50US including the wheel and metal adapter (I don't advise the 3D printed adapters, they aren't strong enough to handle much torque before imploding). I don't see me leaving Logitech any time soon, I like my wheels to last so I don't have to waste money rebuying all the time.

I went from Quickshot Aviator back in the very very old days to Logitech Momo, G25, G27 then to T500RS which I'm still running a decade later with a few mods and its still going strong. In fairness if we were only allowed to have a wheelbase to match our skills I'd be stuck using the lid of a paint can with a stick through the middle of it.

So glad I went from G20 gears to belt driven the G20 had good pedals but high speed wheel vibration did little more than make noise going down the straight you cant feel anything.

@@thedave7760 if I recall the t500 is like the ts xw so it’s not that much of an upgrade from the t300 tbh. I think you’d be better off just saving up for DD wheel since the t300 is like one of the best entry level wheels and if you’ve been using it for a long time then you won’t notice much of an upgrade to a mid tier wheel so it’s best to just save up for something top shelf.

my first budget wheel was a g29 at $199.99 on sale, but one week later I returned it since my budget wheel turned out to be a r5 bundle for $407.96. It got put on clearance the same day I wanted to pick up a r9+cs wheel+srp pedals at microcenter. Someone came to return their r5 bundle for a r9, I decided r5 at that price is best bang for buck I can possibly find. Got the brake performance kit ordered, so glad I didnt get a r9 set which would have cost around $1k after tax AND I would have had to buy a rig for loadcell pedals. Desk gaming on r5 is plenty enough till I can get the space for a dedicated rig.

My first one was the G29. Not a bad wheel but I went through 2 in 30 months. The gears kept stripping out. I think that my case was rare as a lot of my friends that have this wheel have had no problems. I then got a T300. The pedals are crap but the wheel is great. Now don't confuse this with the T300RS as mine came with the 2 pedal set and not the 3 pedal set. I liked the G29 pedals so I got myself a adapter so that I could use them with my T300. That was 10 years ago and I ust had my first problem with the T300. i have lost feed back. But the great thing about Thrust master is that you don't have to replace everything. Got into sim racing again this weekend, after almost 15 years of not owning a racing wheel!
I had a logitech at that time, if I recall correctly. It was noisy, you could feel the gears and the force feedback was so raw and imprecise!
    Other times I guess!
After consuming hours of videos of the new products and technology I made a choice.
Coming from a Seat Ibiza Cupra TDI, which regrettably sold 😢 due to pandemic and other personal matters, I don't have a car since I moved to London.
The Cupra was a quite peppery citycar, with its 160hp and 330nm.
Car aside, as I miss DRIVING and dont want spend money maintaining a car again, I decided to buy something more high quality and higher performance than low tier racing wheels.
I was going for the thrustmaster t gr 2. Although the price is 650£ and it's still a belt driven product with lot of plastic.
Buying separately the base and wheel and load cell pedals would have costed me even more than that.
    Then discovered moza r5 bundle.
After getting educated about DD bases and brands, I decided to pull the trigger!
Went for the r5 and I think compared to 15 years ago this will be an incredible upgrade for me.
Moza paired with Oculus Rift S... ❤
I tried to play with Oculus and keyboard...getting average result practicing, but damn, it's like driving on wheels without tires with keyboard on Dirt Rally!😂
Waiting for the Moza to be delivered this week!

My first wheel was a T150 Pro, which did the job nicely. My only complaint was the button location on the hub, making them mostly useless for games like GTS/GT7, although still usable for ACC for ignition and starter. The T150 is a great bargain and perfect for someone sticking their toe in water of simracing on PS4/5 or PC.
I moved over to a T248 and really like it. Tons of buttons, much better pedals, and overall better FFB than the T150. As a mostly casual simracer, I felt like I could stay on this platform indefinitely. The only thing I've done to upgrade with the T248 was to get the TLCM pedals, just to have the consistency that load cells give you. But it's worth saying that the T248's pedals are very, very good and the spring combinations can give you exactly the resistance you need for consistent braking. That said, the T248 is an overall great platform for the casual simracer. Once you get a feel for the encoders, you'll have nearly limitless control over your car without having to use the clunky on-scree menus of GT7 and ACC while you're trying to drive. It's not as convenient as the TGT in GT7, but it's pretty close and definitely worth it for the price. The only major complaint I really have is that the LED tachometer often flashes for upshift a tick or two before the in-game tach starts flashing for upshift, making it somewhat unreliable for cars that really need to be revved out. But having the LED display is really quite useful if you're trying to line up your wheel with the in-game dash for better immersion.
However, with the announcement of the T818, I'm leaning towards getting it and finally getting into a direct drive. So, that'll bust the $400 budget, but someone will get to buy my T248 for less than retail!

@@racdude01 it was more about the buttons. The T248 button layout and the encoders are really useful. If you're making lots of adjustments throughout a race, having those encoders is almost a cheat code. Also, the T248 is just a better wheel overall than the T150. Getting one on sale and selling the T150 only put me out about $100, so it was a no-brainer.

My first setup was a Logitech Driving Force GT I scored for $20, and T3PA pedals with USB adapter for $100, and a wheel stand for $65. This was super cheap at the time as the g920/G29 had just released so the deals you can find now didn't exist for even the g27. Later on I added an eBay 7+R shifter for $70 and some 3d printed doo dads to use the built in sequential shifter as a handbrake and full size paddle shifters. My friend still races with me on that exact setup today and it's running beautifully. Good ole 2007 tech holding up amazingly today. I still use it when I go to his house too and I honestly like the stronger torque and detail a lot more than the G29/920 despite not spinning as smoothly. I use a Thrustmaster TX full cockpit 50" TV setup now it's great. I'll be upgrading to DD soon once compatibility gets to be more universal. The t150 had discrete positions and it always came between me and immersion, since no car steers like this, but the ffb was solid and quite silent! The g29 on the other hand feels more life-like due to the leather, has more buttons, but man is the ffb loud. It’s like nailing stuff to walls 😂 ah, also, the g29 has a habbit to slightly squeak near center position (happened to me with 2 already) and the ffb seems to have a genuine dead-zone in the center, I’d approximate the first 5 degrees on each direction. £170 for a brand new G29 in a sale here. I’m sure there are far better wheels out there, and even the T150 I used for a few months before it died was more powerful in the feedback, but it’s comfortable, smooth, the pedals are surprisingly competent and the flappy paddle shifters are pleasantly solid.
It’s definitely an ideal starting point, given how many of these get sold to people who decide after a few weeks that they can’t handle a massive setup taking space, it’s too much hassle to set up, or get bored of Gran Turismo. If it’s still getting heavy use in a year or two I might invest in a DD or whatever, but that’s too much of a risk as a way back in to the hobby.

First wheel I got was a G923, and I really disliked how loud it was. It rattled like crazy, and the FFB wasn't the best. And a little over half a year later it just stopped working entirely, which happened after a day of playing FH5. It worked fine the day before, and the next day it just wouldn't calibrate, and none of my inputs registered. I don't know if I just got a bad example, or I pushed it too hard when playing FH5.
So I brought it back to the retailer, and they gave me a paper that gave me 3 choices: Replace my broken G923 with a new one, replace it with a similar product, or have my money returned. Since I had been eyeing the T300RS GT, I decided to have my money returned so I could buy that wheel instead (the retailer I bought my G923 from didn't offer them). I have no regrets with my purchase, as this one just feels so much nicer to drive with. If there's 1 thing I definitely miss, it's the Logitech's load cell brake pedal. Back then I did not appreciate just how useful it is to have a heavier brake pedal as it made it easier to not brake too hard. Sure, the mod that came with the pedals does help, but it takes some getting used to.
Overall, if you have like a 400 euro budget, I definitely recommend the T300RS (or TX for Xbox), as it's such a good system for the price, and works well as a long-term option due to (aftermarket) mods.

As a PC gamer, I went for the TMX because I don't like the look of the blue rubber grips on the T150.
That said its 900° rotation, as opposed to the 1080° of the T150, but that's not as significant as you'll rarely use it at its full lock, the software has different degree of soft lock you can apply, and it is a fantastic value proposition, the force feedback is a lot stronger than you'd expect, keeping in mind that setting it too high will wear it out sooner and oversaturates the feedback making it muddy. Set it anywhere between 60-80% of power through the software, and you'll definitely enjoy it.
Do wear some gloves as the rubber grips can react to sweat and become snotty/decompose.

I recently got the Logitech G29 for playing GT7 on PS5 to replace an old Logitech wheel that was going on near two decades but was not compatible anymore. I looked to get the Thrustmaster T300RS GT but they are out of stock most places (discontinued?) and those that had them where charging double the retail for it, so that was a no go. For now I figure the G29 is good enough while I improve my skills and then down the road I could possibly justify a direct-drive wheel with load-cell pedals..

So I got my first sim wheel a week ago. Used off of Facebook. Logitech g920 with the shifter and a stand for 150. Had issues "out of the box" aka wasnt as plug and play for me as many said it is. I had to do much trouble shooting and solving software issues with GHub. Certain games just felt like dog water like Asseto corsa (fixed this issue with an LUT) other games with less customizability like FH5 I still experience annoyances like the (jitters) caused by there "driving force" gimmick. Its an amazing wheel and for the price i got it at its hard to not recommend if found for a good deal and on a bundle assuming all is functional. Now my only gripes i have found can be attributed to the gear driven mechanism. I knew what i was getting into for the most part but things like drifting. When transitioning you need to heavily assist the counter steer of the wheel. The FFB will do a decwnt job at the start. But any transition will be too fast for the gear driven mechanism to keep up. Things like a belt driven or DD wheel dont seem to have this issue as there input seems a bit more fluid and free moving. So if I can suggest anything. Try to find a t300 ,rs, gt ect. As far as I can tell the t300 is the best budget mid range wheel you can buy. At around 400 new thats about the same price as a g923 with better performance. So my next wheel will be a thrustmaster t300 I believe. Maybe in the next few months i will list my current logitech set on FB at a "SUPER" discount from what I payed "150". As I felt kinda bummed at first as I thought the wheel may have been broken due to the jittering that I had to manually fix through software for certain games. So we shall see. Cheers for the video great insight!

In North America you can get the PXN V10 for $280 USD pretty much anywhere now. Much MUCH better than the original $360 price tag and an incredible value for PC racing. Console support is still hit or miss sometimes. I use one as a spare wheel for guests along with my g920 as another spare. I prefer the PXN as an overall bundle. Pedals and shifter feel better than logitech, yes logi pedals are stiffer, but it's a completely un-natural feeling brake pedal. That rubber block is trash and without it it's a similar weight to a fully stiffened PXN brake pedal. Wheelbase only feels ever so slightly worse and is around the same size maybe a quarter inch smaller in diameter than the Logi setup.

If you talk about Moza R5 (5 Nm) you cannot forget Fanatec CSL serie which has two cheaper options (at least in Europe): 5 and 8 Nm base wheel (400 and 500 $ or €) and Cammus (300 $ or €). For serious sim racers these three options are hard to beat alternatives to Thrustmaster T300 GT version (400 $ or €) mentioned in the video. A second hand G29 or G923 is 150-200 euros, which is a big compromise, as it is half the price for the new cheapest Fanatec ecosystem mentioned here. If the price of a used Logitech does not drop, I personally bet on the CSL from the Bavarian manufacturer.

I did not buy it to race though.I got it to play ETS2 and worked like a glove. I had some 2 weeks or so dugg into seting up the wheel for AC when realised that I was faster with the keyboard. I do not know, but I bet it has to do a lot with how *mobile* the pedals are, even if put to the wall. Some 2 years later I jumped onto a Thrustmaster TS-PC 488 Edition (~500EUR +-25), but had to search a bit for the pedals & hifter kit. It came about 60% of the wheel's price. Logitech has kept the same architecture on its steering wheel since its creation .... without really trying to improve the product, despite the fact that its community has continued to grow.
Initially, sim racing had not reached such proportions.
People played for the most part occasionally, without thinking of going elsewhere to see if the grass is better there.
But the mentalities have changed and the products too... now people really want to play, but with hardware offering more pleasure and feeling.
So they inform themselves here and there and discover new products and for many, it's a shock....
Not that a belt-based thrusmater is the grale, but the difference between the two is already all too apparent...difference even more pronounced, between "some" belt-driven flywheels and direct drive.
Now many put thrustmaster, in the same bag as logitech...
Take a t300 two weeks (the first day is already a surprise lol) then do the same with a DD ... you will understand.

I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about the entry level wheels. Personally I’ve used the thrustmaster tmx, ts xw, and t300rs out of the three of course the ts xw is the best but at that price point your probably better off saving up for a DD wheel. The t300 imo is the best entry level wheel it felt miles better than the tmx and not much different from the ts xw for about the same price except the ts xw is only the base while the t300rs you can get the bundle, pedals, and steering wheel for the same price. If your not sure about sim racing but wanna try it out definitely go for a t300 bundle, but if it’s something you know you’ll enjoy because you love cars or racing then it’s definitely worth saving up a little for like a Logitech DD pro bundle or some other DD wheel.
