To this day, I still don't understand how Coco expected Crash to find an extra laptop battery in a freaking jungle.

Definitely one of the most interesting childhood mysteries.
The answer is pretty simple actually.... crash was going back to their house to grab a battery. Their own home wasnt far off from the N.sanity Beach. (cortex takes this opportunity to jack crash and warp him)

I always assumed that Coco came about from an experiment before Crash, since when the brainwashing Crash goes wrong, Cortex says, "failure again". Considering that Crash was meant to be a super-intelligent general for Cortex's army, it makes sense that Coco might have been a previous attempt but was rejected due to her kind nature and the unreliability of the Cortex Vortex. As for where Coco was during Crash 1: maybe she was creating her own plan to stop Cortex and just didn't find Crash until the second game.

Jay Ramahi Who got taken first. When it comes down to that Coco is more likely since she got failed as her kindness was to great. Tawna isn’t necessarily as nice as Coco so we don’t know which of the girls it is, but both seem to be smart compared to the other animals.
Sonic games technically have a backstory for their characters, but they are either very badly written or been changed later. Like the whole deal with the Classic and Modern universe.
To be fair, most characters in the Sonic series *do* have a very interesting background, _(E.g. Knuckles, Shadow, Tails, Blaze...)_ but since SEGA of Japan doesn't care about having any form of cohesive narrative, this is entirely wasted.
Man, I surely won't look back when the Sonic franchise moves its bases to the United States.
That's why i find it stupid when people complain about the characterization, lore, world, tones etc.
Because the creators are inconsistent and just write random shit for whatever game they're working on at the time.
Long ago i decided to just not give a damn. Every single little detail in all the games might as well be canon since none of it matters anyway.

I think Coco was always there with Crash, as litter mates (or whatever you call bandicoot babies) until they were separated, and experimented on with being housed in different cages.
Then Crash and Tawna meet for the events of the first game
And then when Coco had a way and enough technology/energy she jumped in to help Crash for the 2nd and 3rd game+ Racing game & spinoffs

But all honestly, I hope Tawna makes a big comeback in the next big game. She has received much love from her debut in both N-Sane Trilogy and CTR with her new look and personality and Tawna needs to be part of the Bandicoot-family.

The Crash Bandicoot series needs more good guys in general and I would love to see Tawna alongside her boyfriend Crash again so I'd be all for her being part of the main crew
disabled account I say nay to that. If Coco gets to keep her look, then I see no reason for Tawna to change. And in case you haven’t noticed yet, Tawna has now a personality of a tough gal in the remake. So yeah, Tawna is fine as she is.
Coco will always hold a special place in my top favorite Sib characters, the Dynamic between Her and Crash will always be special, I would like to see more of that, just them, one on one, screen time.

Now, what that says for Coco’s existence I can’t say; I’m inclined to say she was kidnapped after Crash left and went to save Tawna, but escaped before he accomplished his goal, giving her ample time to work alongside this mysterious new mask friend who insists her brother is okay to build a shelter and try fiddling with this computer she kidnapped from the lab on her way out~

Idk if I really can get with it, cause like, only Japanese spinoffs use that story. Like Crash Boom! Bang! is FAR from canon I think many people would agree. Nothing released in America, from Naughty Dog or otherwise, ever alluded to that until that one Nitro Fueled trailer which was a joke about who she was really with.

Like I said before, it isn't canon, but it certainly makes things fun ;) Someone wanted to fill the gap (a gap that Naughty Dog themselves didn't fill, Activision never filled, and Toys for Bob clearly has no intention of filling) and they filled it with something cute and kind of fun. If you want to get technical, the change was probably made because parents complained about there being a Furry style pixie dreamgirl in a kids game, but nothing wrong with taking some creative liberties with it, especially where no other explanation is provided.
@@Silentgrace11 I guess... I'm just one of those people that I want the creators to be upfront and confirm stuff, even if we have to do some research. Cause fan theories can be pretty toxic sometimes. I'm also a Crash/Tawna person too, so it upsets me that Crash's love interest basically disappeared with no real confirmation as to what happened to her. I was hoping T4B would give us an answer in Crash 4, but they were focused on the wrong Tawna pretty much. But seeing as how positively recieved this one was (and she had hips for DAYS, you can even see she's wearing her old shorts if you look closely during her electrocution death animation), I don't see why they couldn't bring her back in the regular universe.
But then there might be people upset that Tawna/Pinstripe isn't a thing, so... Idk. I just can't see her being a good guy and being WITH a good guy, and then she decides to date a mobster, but that's just me.
I want the trophy girls to have their own back story, like where did they come from? maybe even make a new crash game where each of them are playable.
The Trophy Girls are not exactly canon since CTR is a spin-off game, not part of the Crash Bandicoot-continuity.

Atomic Star Dude, the post-trilogy games follows their own continuity that is completely alienated from the trilogy’s and they do whatever they want without making sense. In other words, there’s no linearity between them.

The way I see it, Tawna may have been the one to convince N.Brio to betray Cortex because she put it in his mind that he was the greater genius. Also, I could see the ending of CB1 having Tawna take Crash to reunite with Coco.

Imagine pre experimented Crash trying to hide Coco somewhere in the jungle from N and his scientists before making an U turn to go and try to rescue Tana only to him getting captured, while Coco watches it happen in the bushes before she gets snatched by one of the scientists.

The flashback tapes from Crash 4 does answer what Coco was doing during Crash 1 lol.
Maybe when Coco escaped, it was around the same time Crash was in the Castle. Also explains why the castle was burning was. They reunite and hug. Then Coco escapes while Crash finds Tawna.

Coco being part of the same kin as Crash before Cortex seems believable. I mean they are not well known enough so it might be that he would want to experiment with rare species. Tawna and the rest may have similar from other regions.
That’s interesting theory I’ve heard Isabella being coco grown up wish naughty dog could had made a prequel to Crash Bandicoot.

It makes sense that Coco was meant to be a replacement to Crash for leading Cortex's army. When Crash is deemed a failure you can see Bandicoot 1.0 on the big screen, that implies that Cortex is prepared to try again with Bandicoot 2.0 aka Coco. I can definitely buy N Brio sabotaging the machine right before it's finished and she's deemed a failure, but she retains all the intelligence the machine gifted her since only the loyalty part of the process was sabotaged. But by then it's time for the boss battle with Cortex so once Crash wins he meets up with Coco sometime later. Since they're both Bandicoots and alone in this new existence as anthro animals, she decides them sticking together for survival would make the most sense. I can imagine Crash shouting "Sister" and Coco giggles and goes along with it. So they're most likely not actual siblings but they treat each other as family and that's good enough for them.
Cortex's immediate response after Crash's escape is to prepare Tawna for the Cortex Vortex, meaning that _she_ was likely meant to replace Crash for leading Cortex's army, not Coco.
That, or Cortex wanted Tawna to be his trophy wife, like that one unused voice clip in Tag Team Racing.
@@ArendAlphaEagle Well considering we don't see any female bosses in Crash like we do bosses like Ripper Roo, Tiny Tiger, etc, the trophy wife thing seems more likely with Cortex based on Tawna's design. Coco's intelligence and knack for technology would easily make her a good commander, just more the Oracle or armchair general type.

@@VtnVivi At first glance it doesn't mean much, but when it comes to science 1.0 always means more experiments down the line improving on the original design. That's how we get Crunch in Wrath of Cortex, he's basically what Crash should've been in Cortex's eyes. Even though the game wasn't as good as the originals imo, I do like Crunch as a character. He evens out the family dynamic of the Bandicoot trio as the big youngest sibling who got involved with a bad crowd but had a change of heart and now strives to be good.
The quote you use to show that Crash and Coco have a mom actually proves the opposite. "...if we had one". I see Coco more as an adopted little sister - since the two of them are fairly unique in that since they are mutants, creatures like themselves aren't found in nature, they naturally want to stick together. Coco, being too young to be Crash's romantic interest, takes a sisterly position relative to him.
Obviously they both have parents, or they wouldn't exist - and they very well could have the same parents - but seeing as their parents weren't mutated, there's no way they could properly "parent" Crash and Coco. The two mutants are effectively orphans.
Barring any future retcon, I still subscribe to the idea that Tawna left Crash for Pinstripe - even though this information didn't come from Naughty Dog themselves, and was only ever stated in Japanese material, it's the only cannon explanation we've ever been given.
I once thought this explanation could be a red herring of sorts - that perhaps Pinstripe or one of his goons kidnapped her and either forged or forced her to write a goodbye letter - but her appearance in Nitro Fueled might make this an impossibility, depending on whether or not the Grand Prix content can be considered cannon, and where in the timeline they occur if they are cannon.
CTRNF is not cannon naughty dog CTR is cannon.
Crash bandicoot and coco bandicoot are both eastern barred bandicoot so they are bro and sis the eastern barred bandicoot is located in Victoria and Tasmania so there mum and dad are probably in Victoria or Tasmania and crash and coco got kidnapped or captured by cortex and cortex took all the animals back to wampa island near Tasmania to make them his slaves then crash and coco and tawna escape and they live on n. sanity beach or wampa island.
Perhaps Crash and Coco felt they were blood siblings? It just so happens they have no recollection of who raised them? One has to wonder, does the Cortex Vortex affect one's memories?
A couple thing to point out, the Evolvo Ray and the Cortex Vortex were destroyed at the end of the first game. The Evolvo Ray mutates them, the Cortex Vortex brain washes them.
Tawna was already mutated by the Ray by the time opening shows her, they were preparing her for the Vortex.

You know, funny enough, I would like to add the fact, that Coco has a similar line in Crash: Mind over Mutant, when attacked by Crash (again), she said:
~ "I'll tell Mom! (Whispers to self) Who is she anyway?"

I always felt that Megumi was another failed experiment too, since she’s nice and sweet and she represented Cortex and N. Gin in the original CTR. (Also she’s wearing a lab coat with orange-redish eyes)
Maybe Tawna took Crash to Coco post end of Crash 1 with that bird they're riding on. It's very possible Coco and Tawna escaped together.
This is why I belive a reboot/retelling would be nice to the Crash franchise. But only for the story, to be consistent. It's not the 90's anymore, where story wasn't important that much, but a quick small lore, which makes you pick up the game and play it. On the other hand: the Crash games has plotholes, that needs explonation - but I wish this covered in the games itself, NOT outside of it via interviews with the devs, or like Star Wars: releasing tons of books, comics ect. because the new trilogy quiet lacks of storytelling - sadly.
Crash I'd really look forward to re-imaginings happening after Warped, I mean why not?
my personal head canon: Coco was there with Crash and Tawna. While Crash escaped, she was still in the castle, being trained to be Crash replacement. Instead she teamed up with Tawna and cause some havoc in the castle while crash was on his way back to save them. When Crash finally arrived, the two pretty much where free already and the castle about to blow up, all three escaping, with Crash and Tawna on a giant vulture (secret ending in crash 1). But Cortex survived, shot at them with Crash landing on a giant zepelin, having one last fight with Cortex (regular ending of crash 1).

I always ran with the thought that The evolution ray thingy came first and that they batched up a bunch of animals to be anthropomorphic a head of time and that Crash was just the first to be put in the vortex, and that Tawna was in the room being held because she was next to go in with possibly other Anthro-animals in the room as well that we didn't see. Possibly Including Coco. In the ps1 version Tawna is just standing there, and in the remake she goes in fighting, but for the most part in the first cutscene I don't see anything that says "I am of higher intelligence" from her as she could be just performing the actions of a scared animal that realized it could punch stuff. This thought follows that after Crashes escape Cortex started ramming all his pre-batched Anthro-animals into the cortex vortex and the ones deemed "Successful enough for the job" got used as bosses like Ripper Roo and Pinstripe. Tawna and Coco (And maybe the flag girls?) where all failures to comply and put in holding somewhere, but Tawna now being smarter, was able to escape to find Crash. Or possibly just let out to be used as bait to capture Crash?
Another potential theory is that after Crash goes into the vortex the screen pops up saying "Bandicoot 1.0 REJECT" Tawna, Coco, and the flag girls may have gone in the Vortex first and came out as whatever the definition of 'Failure' is to Cortex, possibly making them a "Bandicoot 00" line of prototypes and may be the "Past Failures" that the scientists where talking about? And despite being hyper intelligent now Coco just didn't have access to the tools to escape, or maybe she didn't realize yet how tech-savy she had become because she didn't have time to tinker with any tech to find her calling?
I'd really like to know what it means to be a failure to Cortex.
Very interesting way to put it!!!! Bandicoot 1.0 could very well be the 1st Bandicoot tested, throughout Crash 1 I'd like to imagine the trophy girls, Tawna and Coco were next. Thanks to their smarter nature, they escape, well Crash ends up rescuing Tawna in the end. Here's a fun theory about past failures, what if the NEW canon aka N.Sane and onward including Nitro-Fueled, has characters that were past failures? I can't help but wonder, ALL these characters were basic animals originally, a whole bunch could've been a result of Cortex's experiments.

Crash 4 explained some of her origins offhandely on the Video tape recording leveles: Coco was still in captivity on Cortex's castle after Crash escaped at the beginning of Crash 1, she escaped later by herself when Crash stormed the place later on to save Tawna.
One of the best charater additions and removals in my opinion.
If there was a crash bandicoot movie or a television series I would like to see crash and coco bandicoot to leave wumpa island and set sails to new adventures and to see old friends and maybe crash would reunite with tawna.
Based on their heights in N Sane Trilogy, we can assume that Crash is either near her age, extremely short(or Coco is extremely tall) and or her hair makes her seem this way. She had to have gone through all that computer stuff due to something most would’ve just ignored: her hair.
Notice how Tawna has straight hair that goes down and isn’t really styled, but Coco puts her hair in a ponytail. In games that focus on the main series(so no racing games) she is the only female who does this and adding females from racing games, she is the only one who wasn’t an adult. Because the rest of the girls were older teens/adults while Coco is more around 12-15.
I had no problem with Tawna Bandicoot. I always thought she and Crash were a cute couple.

My head cannon. There is different types of evo rays. Battle and brain. Crash, and the commandos got the battle type. Coco got the brain type. For support. When dr. Cortex try to combine the two was when the first game happen. He used bandicoots because there quite easy to replace.
With her In Nitro Fueled and for possible Future Crash Game,s hopefully they'll treat her right this time. I wanna know Tawna proper and better unlike the way they removed her and maybe give her some new character development outside of Girl Power all the time.

I created my own headcanon regarding the cortex experiments, so I like the idea of crunch bandicoot been the "original" super bandicoot soldier and the trophy girls were for emotional support fo the Super Soldiers, you know made just to please the super soldiers. So crash & coco was the Fail for Cortex for some reason as the same for the other experiments, like the beef head koala kong, the unstable ripper roo, the highly intelligent but not strong pinstripe potoroo.
The way I see it, coco and crashs mom wasnt exposed to the evolvo-ray and is probably dead from natural causes.
I think if Coco WAS in one of the crates, Crash very well might have had that "brotherly instinct" but he also didnt "escape" so much as he accidentally the window, was knocked out cold, and came to a few islands away.
I would think coco was given the cortex vortex much later as we have visual progression with the animals put underneath it: Ripper Roo is probably smarter then Crash, but also completely insane. Pinstripe is probably the smartest of the first games cortex minions, but hes also got a personality from gangster films. Coco could have been after Pinstripe, when they fixed some of those issues from Crash.

Time Part 2 Grand Prix along with Baby Neo Cortex and Baby N. Tropy. And besides, we've only got the original classic story mode of Crash Team Racing in Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled as the adventure mode. 🙂

I don't know, there is so much characters introduced later in the series that have nothing to do with Cortex and looks like simple habitants from the planet (Pasadena, Farmer Ernest, Viscount Devil, NPCs from Mind over mutant), with makes me think Crash's world is like the Dragon Ball world with there is normal looking people and anthropomorphic people living together.

They can dive more into Nina’s backstory. Because Cortex repleaces her hands with mechanical ones so she no longer plays with animals, it could have some trauma on how she sees her uncle and most likley traumatized her emotionaly. Perhaps Nina has potential to be portrayed as sympethatic character
We can learn more of Cortex’s history at Madame Amberly’s School with N. Brio and N. Gin. Especaly Brio for all emotional and physical abuse he recived from Cortex

And Crunch's origins are pretty well known in the community. He was created initially as a super-weapon to defeat Crash, but was freed from Cortex's control and joined the Bandicoots.

In the japanese version of crash 2 cortex strikes back it says that tawna was the one who broke up with crash and left him with pinstripe.
Brio did mention "past failures" in the Crash 1 intro, so that implied Coco possibly having escaped on her own or maybe resisted the cortex vortex, but the narrative implies that Crash/Tawna were the only ones there ("prepare the female bandicoot" not "the other/remaining female bandicoot"). it really is canonical conundrum. If she was still there it wouldn't make much sense for Crash to leave her, and if she already escaped, she probably should have ran into Crash when he escaped (the Coco that appears in N.Sane is time traveling).
I think escaping before the game and just not reuniting with Crash for whatever reason until the second game probably makes most sense though.

Easiest explanation would be that Tawana was head of the female units and Coco was meant to be the organizer of the units. Therefore either hidden away by her or cortex
Crash being part of the male units. I doubt cortex the male and female subjects together.
There can be many interpretations of how coco came to be and when... time travel is easiest method, but also uncreative and rather...should i say, uninspired...
What i like to believe is that, yes... Coco was the very FIRST bandicoot that was experimented on.
After first failure... Crash Bandicoot was a 2nd attempt at the bandicoot experiment.
As for Tawna, i say she WAS meant to be 2nd bandicoot experiment, but N.Brio insisted to try "male" bandicoot first.
So, basically, the Tawna was hit with Evolvo-Ray before crash, but crash was chosen to go first into the cortex vortex thanks to N.brio.
Coco was simply unaffected by cortex vortex and deemed as failed experiment, but both doctors thought, it would be a waste to discard a creation at this stage. They decided to cage her, so she doesnt escape and perhaps figure out a way to make use out of her. (Given she aint a vicious type, they could encapsulate her easily.)
I imagine using her computer genius to help with making inventions perhaps... like a rank that's higher than a lab assistant. More like a Lab captain of sorts or something... But i guess Brio wanted Tawna to be instead, i suppose...
Crash also turned out to be unaffected by the cortex vortex... and my little explanation that i made out of nowhere would be simply... "WILLPOWER".
Remember how Dingodile despite being Cortex's troops and followers he seems to have a mind of his own?!
Cause his willpower is insanely strong!
To those who dont remember... When Aku Aku brainwashed Dingodile in Crash Bash, it changed his personality and voice.
He... didnt... felt like "dingodile" no more.
And same goes for CNK and N.trance hypnotising him.
I believe somewhere there was stated that N.trance had to brainwash him SO HARD, that it made Dingodile cross his eyes, cause he felt that he could lose control of him at any time.
So i suppose, both crash and coco had very strong willpower, at least for this cortex vortex.
I presume, that might not have been the case of crystal powered cortex vortex sized station laserbeam. Who knows.
In conclusion, i dont think both Coco and Crash are same blood, just same species happen to end up in cortex lab as a simple mutation experiment. Once Crash got to castle before evil doctors proceeded with Tawna... Orange Marsupial confronts Brio and Cortex and sets castle on fire in the process of his antics.
In this entire turmoil, all animals that HAVENT been experimented on, have been freed by this whole commotion, allowing Coco to escape from her prison.
Evil Dr. Neo Cortex is defeated, and Crash rescues Tawna.
WHy does Tawna leave crash?!
Well..... my imagination tells me that after when she gained the beauty and intelligence thanks to evolvo-ray and what Dr. Nitrus Brio was talking about to her, she wanted to become a movie star.
She simply didnt want a dull life with crash doing same thing over and over.... she was... ambitious.
Thus, they part ways... Crash... heartbroken, sits on the log in the N.sanity jungle near the beach and whimpers...
Meanwhile Coco, after when she escaped from the castle, our female bandicoot found crash in the jungle... she followed crash's sounds of his sorrowful moans.
She decides to accompany him so Crash doesnt feel lonely, essentially making him forget the pain of his broken heart.
And thus both decided to help one another from now on and stick together.
PS. Actually now that i think about it.... this sort of remind of me Smurfette story a bit....

Coco did not exist. Then, at one point, she existed. Some say she was created in a lab, by 2 mad doctors. Some say she was plunked into existence by the Creator himself. And some say Coco created herself, as she is the avatar of the Creator (she is literally God).

My understanding from Tawna's reintroduction in CB4 was that Tawna simply left to live a better life after the liberation of the island.
i wish that activison/toys for bob/etc whoever works on the newer game or even if the Official Crash 4 gets dlc, that they actually include where Coco was in CB1 and what happened to tawna after that. It would be nice. Seeing Tawna after years made me so hapyp especially with her redesign but i just think we need to know more.
I always wondered why Tawna wasn't in the N Sane Trilogy but was in It's About Time.
I'm one of the people that doesn't believe she ever really was with Pinstripe, because you see only Japanese spinoffs used that story. Like are we really gonna say Crash Boom! Bang! is canon?
Nothing conclusive was ever released over here that Tawna truly did leave Crash, Universal just had them drop the character with no explanation. I was hoping Toys4Bob would clear that up, but they were focused on the wrong Tawna. 🙄

Crash 4 has a nice line where Crash and Coco “lose touch” with Tawna.
But also Vivi, you might not be surprised by this, but way back when in 2005 when sly 3 came out, I declared that as my second favourite video game series of all time at that point, after kingdom hearts, because nothing was ever gonna top it. I don’t know what it was about sly cooper at that time, but I just kept replaying all the missions over and over again, as well as the challenges, cause you couldn’t do that with the second game band of thieves and the first game didn’t really have a lot of variety in gameplay either. You get what I mean overall?
