    even as a utd fan love watching your channel DW, this game i was at and there is so much about this, all the players on the picture, wanted to play for their respective club, crowd actually cheering and chanting through the game and this vid with no commentary and most importantly no stupid hi techno funk music playing is fantastic, what a pity they don't give us the option to mute commentary but keep the crowd sound. keep up the good work DW

    I well recall a massive cheer at Goodison when the score from this game was read out just after we'd dispatched Newcastle. United's late goal and us winning proved to be a pivotal day in Everton eventually winning the title that year.

      there was a huge cheer in the Liverpool end at this game in the late second half and we incorrectly thought Newcastle had scored and we started singing we were gonna win the league

    Similarities to the current Utd side- raising their game to beat their much better neighbours city. Just like the 80s Liverpool miles ahead but couldn’t beat Utd , weird

    First time I went to Man Utd Liverpool and late goals were unusual in those days as opposed to now when plenty are scored post the 85th minute. I recall standing on the Stretford End for an hour before kick off baiting the Liverpool fans and for around 20 minutes afterwards. Great day!

    This must have been taken off our club video only the 2nd one we did. I remember the first one for the 85/86 season, buying it at the club shop and the bloody music at the start!!

      Athelstan Edwardson I always felt that the 92/93 and 93/94 seasons were the last ones that still felt like proper football. Mainly because the last of the terraces didn’t go until the end of the 93/94 season.

    From the Times report "United, led by the courageous if over-zealous Whiteside, enjoyed a higher
    percentage of the early possession"....in other words "playing for any other team - Whiteside would be sent off every week".....

      It's a cracking goal as well. To be fair to him, he did three other decent things: his overhead kick v Wednesday in Oct 1986; his twenty yarder v Cov City three weeks after that; and his great pass that put Strachan through for his equaliser at Anfield the year after this match. To think we could have had Lineker instead...

    When there was a atmosphere at OT before sky and those glazers

    • @randyborstol2491
      @randyborstol2491 Рік тому

      I agree generally but the atmosphere at this game was dire at times. It was a weird game as Man Utd had nothing to play for and we were hanging onto a title ambition by a flimsy thread. I still am baffled by our tactics to this day. I don't know if we actually played for a draw or hoped to contain Man U and then try and sneak a goal almost like a European away game. It almost worked I suppose if Walsh scored, but the overall lack of drive amongst Liverpool (supposedly going for a title) in this game saw some dogs abuse amongst our support. I reckon this was the game Kenny realized he needed a new forward line. I always thought Walshy was hard done by. He did not play great here but he looked the one player who had a bit about him. He was not any worse than Whelan, Johnston or Rush who were awful. Walshy like Beardsley I think was harshly treated by Kenny who probably had unreasonable expectations for the number 7 shirt. The full game is elsewhere on YT.

    Great upload. Don't know how Walsh missed that chance second half! Liverpool were absolutely and very strangely (by their standards) rubbish away from home that year, Everton won the league quite comfortably in the end.

      The poor sensitive souls that inhabit twitter are like Bond villains: they can't tolerate any sort of failure. They'd be so busy tweeting their displeasure, they'd forget to actually know anything about football.
      Got to admit, your poor form at the end of that season amazed me. Dalglish fixed it more than effectively, unfortunately.

    • @DaveWallerLFC
      @DaveWallerLFC  7 років тому +2

      The poor form was at least partly due to a long injury list. No Lawrenson, Nicol, Beglin, MacDonald, Molby by this stage, with Grobbelaar out after this game. There may have been other reasons too, but that can't have helped.
      Ferguson presumably wouldn't have lasted until 1993 with the current social media impatience, so if it prevents a repeat of that era it's not all bad!

    • @scherben8870
      @scherben8870 7 років тому +2

      :) There's a sobering thought [about Fergie].
      Injuries would have knocked you off your stride. Big Ron had used the injuries excuse for us the year before, neglecting to mention he'd signed a pile of shit as replacements.
      Liverpool's rebound from this season is something I'd sooner forget ;)

      I forgot about the handbag to 'Mae' West. Always a red one, I believe?
      Aye, Big Ron's long leather coat and comb over looked very suave. Him and Charlie Nicholas would have been a great pairing.

      This channel is mostly games from 85/86 - 90/91 and I've uploaded highlights of every Liverpool-Utd game from that period. If I get round to doing other seasons, I'll obviously include any games that are available.
      Times change, sometimes in good ways and sometimes bad. If you could have the passion of the 80s without the violence and sick celebration of death that would be better than the watered-down atmosphere created by lots of tourists at both clubs who don't have the depth of emotional engagement. The fact that some of the sick songs are still there seems hard to justify.

    • @DaveWallerLFC
      @DaveWallerLFC  5 років тому +1

      Just read that the paper was sold to Murdoch in 87 so maybe he decided to cancel, or maybe they only wanted the publicity as a short-term boost for a new paper, or maybe they were outbid by Barclays. So, in answer to your question, no I don't know!
