Great upload Dave. This was my first time at Anfield and on the Kop too. What an atmosphere. League was almost won by Everton at this stage but Rush got the record this day

Would have been interesting too, to see how far Everton would have got in the European Cup had English teams not been barred

There could have been a first meeting in the competition between the two in the 86/87 campaign as well... Imagine that! Liverpool entering as English Champions, and Everton as European Holders from previous season, as that Everton team in my book, would have done well in it. But we will never know unfortunately.

Tremendous match, and what a peach of a pass from Steve McMahon on 11 minutes,Molby silky as ever. The pace of the game was incredible, unrelenting. Great days

In my opinion this particular Merseyside Derby match is most probably the most important that has ever happened. A league title at stake and had Everton won at Anfield, barring four huge Everton defeats and three huge Liverpool wins then the league championship would have been won at Anfield, which would have hurt Liverpool even more.
Kevin Sheedy and Steve McMahon was brilliant that day for Everton and Liverpool respectively. Jan Molby controlling the midfield. Neville Southall a bit below par conceding two goals that he would otherwise normally had saved. There have probably been other Merseyside Derbies with more quality but not in importance and anxiety amongst both supporters. This is even more important than the 1986 FA Cup Final for me.

My brother got married this Day. What a game of FOOTBALL and 4 very good goals. First goal WAY OUT ON ITS OWN .SHEEDYS FREE KICK SPOILT BY HIS PRIZE ASS ANTICS GIVING THE FINGERS. RUSH EQUALLED DIXIE DEANS RECORD BUT CAME BACK IN 1989 SEASON RIGHT UP TO LATE 90S TO OBLITERATE IT..YNWA

Never mind all this Jurgen Klopp nonsense. Bloody Salah, Firminho, Allison and Van Dijk...
Give me Craig Johnston, Gary Ablett, Nigel Spackman and Mike Hooper every single time!
And the hair was better then, too!

Its great how Kevin Sheedy and Gary Ablett share their respective names with legendary Australan Rules footballers.

Is there an archive of old Liverpool matches available somewhere? I'd love to watch through a couple of seasons of old matches during the summer.

Not as such. The playlists on this channel have highlights of a lot of games from 85/86 to 90/91: ua-cam.com/users/davewallerfsmailplaylists If you're looking for full matches there are some on youtube but you can get more on DVD from the following sites: oldfootballdvds.weebly.com/ www.freewebs.com/footballontap/ and footydvd.co.uk/

I always wonder if there is any available in an archive somewhere of Liverpool v Ipswich from August 1985 when both sets of fans chanted for the opposition, one of the funniest things I experienced on the Kop, Liverpool fans booing Liverpool and cheering Ipswich with Ipswich fans booing Ipswich and cheering Liverpool and apart from the first of five Liverpool goals that day Liverpool fans didn't cheer when Liverpool scored but Ipswich fans jumped for joy and celebrated when Liverpool scored.
Sadly that season (1985/86) was blighted by a tv strike so the first half of the season was untelevised but First Division games were televised on the continent at that time which means that unless games were destroyed then somewhere in Europe there must be an archive of English games from that period, finding them is a completely different matter though isn't it.

@Wirral Nomad - although games were recorded for broadcast abroad it was probably only 1 or 2 matches a week, not every game. I think the footage that was recorded is mostly available, so I think it is (sadly) very unlikely that the Ipswich game you mention was recorded. So it will probably only have been enjoyed by those of you lucky enough to be there.
