Gordon Hill and Steve Coppell. Whenever they attacked down their respective wings, you could feel the excitement lift Old Trafford off the ground.
Great players.
I watched every game Gordon Hill played for United, he was adored by United fans, great memories.
The man the game ... Absolutely a legend and yes a family relation one of the best uncles ever .always let his feet do the talking ..all the best uncle. Gordon from your nephew Matt
Nice to be related to him. A very nice man who sent pictures to my young boy during lockdown when I asked for training advice. His name is Matthew.

Yeah another Utd legend ( Steve Coppell ) was good like that too.
“Merlin”, Steve Coppell, Gerry Daly ….. Stuart Pearson ……. What an exciting team we had!!
Loved Gordon Hill to bits. I’ve followed United since 1976 & he was my boyhood hero
Being a lefty myself, Hill was my man. Never forgave Sexton for selling him!
Same as
Gordon Hill is alongside Glenn Hoddle....truly amazing skills.
Im Arsenal but loved watching Gordon play, everytime he got the ball you knew something was goner happen
Gordon Hill. Legend !!!
That Docherty team holds a special place in the hearts of many utd fans who were around in these days . They were such an invigorating hardworking team and Gordon sparkled more than most .Many thaka gordon and all the best .
You're absolutely right, that team was so exciting and brilliant to watch.
The most exciting United side ever. Gordon was a real winger who scored shedloads of goals and, was an expert volleyer.
Our best football. We’ve been spoilt by fergies trophies but Tommy docs sides here was the best football ever. MUFC ♥️🤍🖤 Stretford reds
One of my all time heroes at old Trafford later in life he did the medal presentation night at our local club to the juniors i was, asked cud you pass the trophies to Gordon wow we ended up walking up the road after laffin n joking like good mates unbelievable
As a lover of the English game, I've had many favorites during the years and Gordon Hill is certainly one of them; extremely skillful, great dribbler of the ball and a powerful shot. A classic winger!
My first footballing hero 1976. Halcyon days
Great player for United and a more or less two footed winger. Scored some terrific goals and made many more.😊
Love his cross at 1:28 for Stuart Pearson’s brilliant side foot volley at Ipswich.
my favourite player when i was a kid. not a united fan but they've always been my 2nd favourite team. this guy is a big reason why. also someone gave me a batch of united programmes (circa 66-74) and they were things of beauty.
Gordon was nicknamed Merlin for good reason. Not at OT long enough. Another dim manager we had got rid of him. He was, as in the words of the great George Best a 'bit special'. Great he is still connected to football teaching the young ones. Shame Utd have not had the sense to employ him as a coach.
Legend from that Era
Great Player.
Great post. If you get the chance, have a listen to Gordon Hill on the Man Utd Podcast recorded a few weeks ago. A great winger with such a sweet left foot - a top bloke & a true Old Trafford legend of the 70s...
One of the last great wingers. Left sided too a problem for England for years to come when injury cut his career short. Always remember jack Charlton commentating in an FA Cup final saying what a wonderful player this lad Gordon Hill is.
Love his cross at 1:28 for Stuart Pearson’s side foot volley at Ipswich.Hill and Coppell were brilliant players.Sadly, a knee injury finished his career,as it did to Steve Coppell.
Yes it was Tommy docherty behind it all. He played for Preston with sir Tom Finney. He loved wingers!
What a player, what a team under the Doc!!!
Gates went up, fans were happy - a better watch than the current overhyped circus.
The King of all cockneys 🤣
Tommy docherty behind it all. He played for preston with sir tom finney. Once he got his hands on Manchester united..wingers.
Class player
Unbelievably, his fellow teammates used to take the mickey out of Gordon.
I think it was all banter really. He came with a decent price tag and the moniker merlin from Millwall. He settled in nicely. Lou macari wound everyone up. Ask Mickey Thomas! He was befriended by Sammy mcllroy
Gordon Hill nicknamed MERLIN by Utd fans. 👑
Brilliant
Gordon Hill: My hero. I was a left winger, modelled on the best. Tsk Sexton, useless bugger.
He had a fantactic left foot and i,am Liverpool suporter. IS Gordon still alive
Yes and he trains my boy. Lovely fella
I wonder if he was related to Jimmy Hill?
millwall boy
Hill one side Coppell the other brilliant
Alongside Schmichel, Robson, Cantona and Buchan. Merlin kakes my all time Unites XI every time.
Merlin makes my all time Unites XI every time.
Brilliant tribute video 📹 except for the awful 'Come up & see me' song 🎵 by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. 😢
Myself & quite a few others worked on a factory 🏭 that could only receive a local radio 📻 station & this was one of their few records. 😢
Sorry about the music, I thought it worked😅
Load of crap
What a class player our cockney was! 100 million today! All time, great! And privileged to have seen him most Saturdays! 👏🏼👏🏼
Started watching the game from Oz mid 70's and Gordon Hill was my first footballing hero...adored him.
