sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know of a method to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Jay Andres thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Omg seriously I didn't realise your hair could vary so much! I have slight waves to loose coiled curls! Like you 2a to 3a/b I also heat curl/straighten.
I’m still kind of confused as to what my hair type is because if I put a styler in it and diffuse it is curly but if I just let in air dry without anything in it then it’s wavy🤧
Me too. My hair is barely wavy (2a) when I don't use stylers but if I do it gets wavier and almost curly in some areas. Also the type of styler I use and my styling method can cause my curl type to be more or less curly
Same for me! My stylist explained for my fine, low porosity hair using product & heat tightens up the curls (similar to how detergent & heat shrinks a wool sweater). When I air dry, I end up with a no volume, barely wavy, frizzy mess. She said water itself can weigh down my fine, low porosity hair as it dries. I've tried adding light weight products then air drying. But w/o heat the products don't seem to penetrate my hair as well. And product left on top adds to the final mess...weighed down, stretched, frizzy, stringy waves I put up in a bun by mid morning! 😲
Me too! I have thick course hair and 2a waves, however putting stylers in it helps to bring it to 2b-2c curls along with diffusing. It’s also nice to not depend on stylers and to let your hair breath. It helps to keep you sane while you start the CGM Journey. If you keep trying different products for your hair type, you will find a product that will allow your hair to curl just a little bit more without having to diffuse.
Chiming in to represent wavies with no root curl! The first 3-4 inches of my hair is 2a-2b, after which it likes to twist into loose 3a (with the occasional 3b) spirals. You give great tips, and it's so nice to know I'm not alone in my weird, inconsistent hair pattern. I'm gonna try to follow your advice about products to suit hair texture and porosity, instead of chasing the elusive 'perfect curl'.
Thank you for this. I'm mostly 2a 2b without any root curl no matter what I do and yet on one side of my head the last 3 or so inches twist loosely to 3a as well. I've always wondered why my hair was so "wonky" and if maybe my hair was just weird or damaged but it definitely helps to know that I'm not the only one.
my hair is 2b/2c, but at the top it is always straight no matter how much i scrunch and put product in. i think maybe the top is just weighed down by the rest of my hair bc i have really long hair but idk
@@alyssav6099 Same here. I think that for me it's a length, weight, density, and texture issue. My hair is almost waist length, so it's heavy and I have a lot of it and it's coarse-ish. I've never really been able to get any kind of curl formation anywhere above like nose level.
Most of my hair is roughly 3a, but I have ONE section underneath behind my ear that's a 3b ringlet. It's nice that it's there, but I wish it would have a meeting with the rest of my hair to join the 3b club.
Same I have got 3c hair on the closest part of the neck, then it goes to a 3b and on the highest part of my head is 3a... and on the front of my head I have 2c but most of my head is 3a
It's so funny you're talking about this today. I'm coming out of transition and when I first started I was 2a-3a pieces on my head. Now I have a solid 3b pattern with 2c, 3a and 3c pieces in different places so I've had to change all my products to accommodate. I never thought my hair was THIS curly. It's amazing.
This video helps a lot, Thank you I have been somewhat saddened by my hair because it wasn’t poofy and curly all over my hair and it’s rather straight on top with ringlets down at the bottom. Nobody believes me when I say it’s natural! So glad it’s normal
I have a whole bunch of different curls but in general it is between 2a-3a but like you said depending on the day it can go from basically straight to sort of "spiraly". I have way tighter curls underneath in the back but really straight on the top of my head, its a struggle y'all. I love my hair though!
6-ish weeks into my experiment, I'm mostly 2b/c with some 3a/b ringlets, after an initial big chop of heat-damaged hair. I was super-excited this week because I was *finally* able to do a Day 2 refresh without completely re-wetting my hair. Twice! :) I can't describe how happy I was to arrive at work without wet-rat/poodle hair! To me, CGM means celebrating the small victories (that 1 perfect curl!) and persisting for the bigger one: healthy hair that makes the most of my natural curl pattern(s). Courtney, your videos (and others!) are helping me keep my focus on not just the results, but also the journey. 🧡
Courtney! I know this was posted 9 months ago, but I have just viewed it today... and thank you so very much! Thank you from the bottom of my heart and my best ‘2c’ curl days. This video has helped so much in clarification and validation and hope! Like yours, my hair can be straight to almost 3a given weather, diet, stress, product, etc. I’m so grateful because for awhile I thought I was going curly crazy and close to giving up. New subscriber here! 👍👍
The right side of my hair is wavy 2b, and the left side is curly 3a/b... I thought there was something wrong with my curl pattern now this made things more clear
Holy cow! This is hands down the best explanation of understanding your curl pattern and what to do for it. I too got stuck in that race to get the best "curl" pattern and forgoing taking care of my waves. I all but gave up on my quest to go with my natural wavy-curly hair. It was just easier to just ignore it and use a straitening iron or curling iron to fix it. Now years, and I mean like 10 YEARS later I find your videos and my faith and quest in embracing my natural wavy-curly hair has been renewed! Thanks for this great video! I really enjoy and appreciate your content.
YES! my wavy hair can be 2A or 2C based on my haircut, products, humidity, dew point, wind, how I slept, if I have allergies... okay, maybe those last few were a stretch.
Although I had seen the curl chart floating around the internet, this was the first time I had heard an explanation of what each curl type actually is. I have 2c/3a hair with a few 3b pieces so I treat mine as curly. It is very long/coarse/high porosity with a few highlights thrown into the mix. I use a modified cgm including diffusing and highlights (through the top sections) 2 or 3 times a year. I only do a few fine higlights in my already blonde hair to blend in the white hairs I am getting at 48. I've been using this modified cgm for nearly a year and my hair health has improved a lot. My hair can take a lot of moisture/butters/creams as it is dry, so often go for products more typically used for coily hair. This works for treatment products, but styling products for curly hair give me more definition. I don't really pick products by curl type, but by ingredient and texture. I live in Scotland where it rains a LOT so I don't use glycerin heavy stylers, as they go frizzy more easily in this weather. I get much better hold and definition glycerin free, but glycerin works great on my skin in products. The length and weight of my hair can pull the curl looser over the days after washing also. To be honest my hairs curl pattern can look different day by day. Best wishes.
* long post sorry. Just been feeling discouraged. Thank you thank you thank you for this video. I have been researching nonstop (almost obsessively) to gain as much knowledge as I can about my daughter's wave/curl. I have straight as can be hair so this is all new to me and its definitely been overwhelming. I was told in a fb group that she is not curly but a level 2 wavy(no lettering) because her curl didn't go to the root. Well that's true with her top section of hair (right now). But if you pull that up, there are perfect ringlets to her scalp. And she has all the sizes in between. So its been confusing as to how I needed to treat her hair. She is only 7 and I will admit I have not done a great job so far with her hair health, not bad but not great. (100% needs more conditioning/moisture and stopped dry brushing).I have completely changed how I handle her hair now and it's been amazing and getting better and better. It's literally only been a week and there are sections bending that never have before. Thank you for reassuring me that wavy/curly hair can fall into a range and not just one neat little number and letter. I feel more like I can do this. And then be able to teach my daughter how to eventually take over with confidence.
Thank you for this video! My hair is a sampler of waves/curls 🤪 The bottom layer has beautiful clumpy curls, 3a/3b, that do their own thing no matter what. My top layer is different on each side; the right side has nice 2b/2c waves; the left side has 2a/2b waves that can sometimes be talked into being 2c. Normal and fun but sometimes annoying 🙄
Thank you for making this video. I have learned the hard way that curl type really has nothing to do with how I need to determine what to do for my hair. My curls are so "atypical" that they range from 2a to 4b, I have all kinds of textures on the same head, and my hair does not fit nicely into any one type of category, except maybe low-density, and possibly mostly low-porosity. I have mostly coarse, 3a-type curls, but interspersed throughout are finer hairs and even a few kinkier hairs (they are very thick and flat and wrinkly strands, similar to a ribbon that has severe wrinkles). If my hair gets long enough, those 3a curls spiral into 3b curls. My edges (around my forehead) have fine hairs that do not grow nearly as long as the rest of my hair and are curl-type "frizz", and the hairs at the nape of my neck are very fine 3c and do not grow long either. I have been on the curly-girl journey since 2007, and still have yet to find what works really well for my hair. I am often discouraged and just pull it back. I've donated my hair twice out of frustration. I don't use much heat, nor do I color or bleach it...it seems very healthy, which is good, but doesn't look "nice", because of all the frizz. Even my frizz is "atypical" in that it is not affected by humidity (or doesn't seem to be, at least). So, I'm still figuring out my hair... But my point is, thank you for pointing out that some or even most people don't fall neatly into any one type of curl/texture/porosity/density category. Had someone pointed this out to me years ago, I might have been easier on my hair and myself. Now, I just try to accept my hair as it is the best that I can. I am really enjoying your videos, and I think I will hit that subscribe button after watching this one! :)
I started my curly hair journey seriously at the end of 2019. My hair is wavy/getting curlier and when I started , my hair looked pretty similar to the pictures you've shown of your hair when you barely started. You inspire me and I hope my hair evolves to look anywhere near how fabulous yours looks 😍😍 I'm learning so much from you !!! Lol
Sooo true about the subjectiveness! Starting out I thought my hair was solidly 2A. Now it can seem like 2A-3A locks of hair depending on the day, which part of my hair, etc.
I know what you mean. What got me into the curly girl method was when my hair grew back from telogen effluvium (caused by an allergic reaction), it came back wayyyy curlier than I’ve ever had. It didn’t stay that way, and I went back to my wavy hair. Well low and behold I have a ton of different hairs from 2a to 3a. Hair feels so much healthier and cleaner after finding the CGM. I ❤️ it
Mine are finicky. Usually I have these beautiful curls around my face, but the rest of my hair is probably a 2a or a 1a. I don’t have a diffuser, so it may be different if I use one.
I don’t normally comment on UA-camrs videos but I just wanted to say I thank you. I don’t know if you will even see this comment or read it. I have been not using heat tools on my hair for about 6 or 7 years only once in a blue moon. But my problem is I was still using sulfates and silicones not thinking anything of it. My hair didn’t look terribly bad but all I did was wash than conditioned then got out and put some more conditioner to control frizz. Not Realizing silicones was my problem. It’s only been exactly one month since stopped using that one conditioner I’ve been using for years(curl perfection Pantene) and I see such a difference. I know it will be a while tell it’s how it’s supposed to be but you give me such good advise and so much in-site on my hair. Really simplifying what porosity is. The balancing between protein and moisture. We have similar hair type. Thin high porosity and loves protein. Your really inspirational. thank you!!!!❤️
What you said about curls being different in different parts of your head just CHANGED MY LIFE! On the right hand side of my hair is mostly 2A with a bit of 2B here and there - I can't make it curly NO MATTER WHAT I DO. But on my lift hand side most of it's 2C, with bits of 3A and a couple 2B pieces. I thought I was doing something wrong. I would blame the length/thickness of my hair, the fact I part my hair on my right side, my diffusing technique, how I sleep - I couldn't figure it out, why my hair gets so curly on one side but is comparatively flat on the other side. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Just started my cg journey, however, I've been using sulfate free shampoo before I started haha. I wanted something gentler and saw that sulfates can be very drying and decided to try sulfate free. Its made my hair less dry that's for sure! It's still frizzy though... To actually start the cgm I decided to buy some styler products since till recently I've only been using a smoothing oil by shea moisture. Helped with the frizz and poofiness... I bought some mousse for wavy hair since that's what I see when I wash my hair. My husband had some decent gel which I've been using too, for extra hold. I found that my hair is still frizzy depending on the day, but also wavy! The first time I styled my hair I was honestly surprised to see those "S" waves. I had an idea that my hair might be wavy since my dad's is curly, but I always thought my hair was dry and poofy but straight. It was straight when I was little too, so I never put much thought into it when growing up. Anyway, I found your channel and love how informative it is! You do product reviews and sometimes more technical videos like the protein/moisture balance video. I really appreciate what you're doing! And love learning about wavy/curly hair needs!
I really like your videos! We have a similar hair type and you're the first one explaining techniques in a way that helps me. Could you maybe do a video about gel? I would be particularly interested in how to find out if I use too little or too much. Also, proper application and distribution through hair without disrupting the clumps. UGH.
You are my absolute FAVORITE! I love watching your videos; you always give so much great info, while SHOWING us what works best for your hair... Our curl patterns are super similar, but our porosity's are different... But I do love to see what certain products do for your curl pattern!
I love your hair! There really is a lot of complexity to the Curly Girl Method. Some products make my hair have zero curl, and other products do a good job of enhancing the curl, but technique matters too. I have a long way to go. I will schedule a curl coaching session!! Thanks for being you!
I'm so thankful that you have this channel! This is a pretty old video but I'm just discovering my hair type and what exactly to use 😬, I tried a couple products so far and wasn't exactly what I was looking for and it didn't do anything to my hair! (I think that they were meant for way curlier hair types) I tried it a few different ways before trying a new one. But I have very similar hair to yours! If I just wash with no styler it goes nearly straight when brushed and looks very dry and it's super disappointing 🥺 I've watched your Curly Girl 101 video and it's so helpful! I will soon start my 30 day sulfate-silicone free journey 💙
Here's a giggle for you! I'm 2a,2b,2c,3a curly girl. I didn't realize manufacturers actually had suggested products for specific curl pattern.🤦 I've been using the right stuff by accident! 😊 Thank you for the information!
Courtney where have you been all my life! This video is so helpful and I'm feeling so much better about my wavy/curl journey now. Lately I've been feeling like I'm missing something from my routine and this video has given me some areas to look into but also a better way to find out what is best for my hair. Thank you!!!!
My hair is 2a/2b but when you said waves/curls can be tighter on one side than the other, i felt that. Lately after getting haircuts I've noticed that one side is longer than the other but this is because they cut it wet and straight, not when my hair is wavy! I started the CGM this week and boy your videos have helped me so much I've never had such great hair days until now at 24 years old! My hair used to be straight when i was younger but it got wavier as i grew. Although the hair at my nape is still straightish but because i have short hair, i think it'll change once i grow it out. Thanks for being so helpful!
When I went for my DevaCut the stylist described my pattern as Botticelli curls. She described pulling an old timey phone cord out of pattern. The result is my curl type! Lol
Absolutely love your hairstyle in this video 😍 Could you maybe do a tutorial on how to create such a tight bun (like do you use gel or hairspray?) and the cute loose curls on the sides? :) Or a video including several updos for curlies? Enjoying your videos a LOT!! So so informative! Keep up the good work 😊👌
Courtney :) Can you try a wash-day with the Kristin Ess New Curl Line at Target? It has 6 products; Shampoo, Conditioner, Curl Defining Jelly, Co-Wash, Hydrating Curl Repair Mask, Leave-in. Aside from her Curl Line, I am also interested in her Clarifying Cleanser & Volumizing Mousse. Her Products are Sulfate, Silicone, Paraben Free and Vegan
I’m so glad you labeled the two curls you have hanging out!! I was wondering what those would be classified as because they look like my curls, which I had been calling a 2b-2c curl type!
When my hair is product free, it's dry. frizzy, straight, no volume. When there's products, strands by my ears are 2a. As my hair gets longer, the extra length makes clumps want to meet each other. Strands passed my shoulders are 3a.
I don't think the curl pattern is important as far as how products work. Porosity and protein sensitivity and all that are definitely more important. The Kinky Curly products are my holy grails and the Mielle Pomegranate and Honey Leave-in says on the bottle it's for type 4 hair and my hair is probably 2b/c at best, but it loves it. I DO however think the pattern is important if you are wanting a specific look or haircut and although searching for your curl pattern can yield differing results, I still end up finding similar hair to mine among the ones shown. Obviously, everyone's hair is still going to be slightly different, but the way the hair falls is what I look at when it comes to the curl pattern.
But in order for us to start the curly girl method we need to know what products to use, and in order for us to know what product to use, we need to know our curl pattern.
@@jalisa424 no... the poster above is right. You need to know your hair’s porosity, density and elasticity levels in order to pick the right products. Curl pattern comes after.
Very helpful, thanks! I've been working to find & enhance my curls, for the 1st time IN MY LIFE. Lately I felt like my curly journey hit a plateau. Your explanation about protein really helped. And I appreciated when you said changing weather effects curls from day to day. I think Winter weather and protein needs count for some of my plateau...not to mention that I'm still a curly newbie 😌 💝
You r right! I have a fine, medium to high porosity, low density hair...Recently, i bought a botanical shampoo. condition, and a styling cream that works on fine high porosity hair (the product says "for all hair types" but, i get the recommendation by some fine high porosity hair girl) , i bought a gel too....i just cant believe! My hair looks curlier now! Totally agree with you
Hi Courtney! I need a tutorial 😆 They say in the Internet that to define one’s hair type one need to have a product free and zero-manipulated hair but I need to towel it somehow and to set in order at least by raking through… So I am confused here 😅😅
Sometimes my hair feels fine, other times I think its coarse and I also cant determine if my hair is high or low porosity! I want to do a hair analysis to find out. All I know is that my protein/moisture balance is super important.
I recently started to treat my hair for being high porosity and the results are great so I figured out how I have high porosity hair by looking at how my hair reacts to protein, how fast my hair gets wet, if my hair strands are rough and bumpy when I run my finger down my strands, if my hair starts to dry very fast to the point that some strands above my head become frizzy as if they weren't soaking wet a sec ago, and the biggest one is that when I colored my hair the hairdresser was shocked at how fast my hair soaked up the products. I hope this helps because it's mainly about how well does your hair takes in products and absorbs it.
Well Courtney, you might not know it, but now I'm on quarantine and can't see anyone you have become my new best friend ;) I miss people so much! But I've decided to redeem this time and try to get my natural hair back! I actually got on here to deal with my 3 daughters' curly hair and your videos inspired me to work on my own hair too! Your videos have been very encouraging and SUPER informative for someone starting out! I've had 6 kids in 10 years and I LOVE the control "blowfrying" gives me (like, I haven't let my hair air dry in a decade). I actually really like my current routine (blow dry and use a straightener to curl the ends), but you've inspired me to pursue healthy hair. I'm one week in and I'm surprised at how much my hair still waves/curls! The ends tend to go straight though, I think I'm going to have to chop it at some point. Anyway, thank you for the videos, keep 'em coming!
Oh my goodness! This is so exciting! You do give up any semblance of control over your hair when you start doing the CGM. But it’s also deeply freeing in a way, because you finally except your hair as it is instead of trying to change it. You’ve got this! Make sure to give yourself Grace every single day you do this. Also remember that this is fun! LOL! Even when it feels like it’s no fun at all, it does get better I promise!
Yes! It's more than just a hair journey! You said in a video how it also became about you being enough as you are, and that really resonated. Thank you for your enthusiasm! Alright, now I'm gunna make some coffee and watch some of your refresh videos ;)
I have so many different patterns on my head. Like, seriously. The majority of my hair is 2c but I have straight bits and then 3b strands, not necessarily sections. And then I look at my hair closely and some of my hairs are super fine and then I have super coarse hair! Wish I could go get my hair analyzed. I’m just experimenting and seeing what my hair likes... still haven’t found my “holy grail” products yet...
Yeah...I totally take time to figure things out. I didn't find my holy grails until about a year into this. And even then they still change some as I continually try new things!
I'm still having a hard time understanding porosity? I know my hair is baby fine, super soft, has both waves and curls. I "think" medium density. I am just starting to embrace understanding my hair and still feel confused🤦♀️. I love your videos though...so upbeat and fun.
I def have a combination hair pattern it loves to be pin set and stays quite well but I tried plopping on wash days an my hair is def beginning to behave
My hair ranges between 2b-2c and the occasional 3a but I have to refresh most days bc it tends to fall flat the next day and only then has a few waves, and I have tried plopping but my hair is rather short and it tends to flatten at the roots when I do it 😂 I had my hair cut short (a bit more than a pixie cut) about 7 months ago and it was 3a all over but now that it's growing out, it's different and I suppose that's probably because my waves/curls are becoming weighted down but I might get a pixie cut, after it grows out to my shoulders. I love your videos btw! Your vids have helped me a lot and you bring so much positivity and helpfulness! :)
I just found your channel and love your videos. I am interested in trying to reclaim my hair health. I went to naturallycurly.com and took their hair quiz. They classified my hair as high porosity because it has been dyed. (My hair is naturally grey at this point. At one point I highlighted too, but no longer do that because of damage.) But when I did the water test, it came up as low porosity. Otherwise it is wavy, fine and dense. Any advice on how I should approach this?
Still searching for my routine. 2b to 3a curl patterns on fine low porosity hair is maddening. Then you have those wild hair pieces that go 3c. Currently experimenting with using different products on different sections. Ugh...
Yeah...its a whole lot of experimentation. Or at least that is what it took for me to figure out what my hair liked and didn't like. I leaned on sample sizes hardddd during this experimenting phase. LOL! Like the 2oz travel sizes. That way I didn't have to commit to the full size bottle of product!
So... my hair is really long. It’s past my shoulder blades. It’s also fine, and has natural silver highlights coming through about to the shoulder length. When I hang it upside down and squish to condish, and squish in styling products, I get nice curl clumps, and a nice 2b-2c wave. After it hangs down my back for a while, though... the clumps all go away and I’m back to swavy in most places. I actually have no problem with it being mostly straight if I finger comb it while drying and if I don’t put any product in it. It’s in good shape; I’ve been using Briogio for maybe 2 years, so it’s very healthy and shiny. It may just be too fine and long to hold tighter waves? (When I was younger, I could hold them at this length without taking good care of them... ah, youth.). Any ideas?
Niki Beal I personally found that Brielle Giles was too heavy for my fine hair. I also find that when I use a hard hold gel and diffuse my curl pattern is tighter versus when I use light hold products and air dry. This is part of the fun of wavy hair, the versatility!
I have alot of 3a/b with a lil bit of 2c. My bottom/right side layers lack the curl pattern of the rest of my hair. Mid back length. Frizzy. I do not like my hair in clumps. I'm open to any suggestion! Please! Thank you 😊
I have literally depending where in my head, how its cut, weather, you name it so I get so mad at it all because my rooottt does NOTTTT curl. wtf do I call ittttt AND HOOWWW DO I MAKE IT EVEN
My hair looks like Asian straight but some points seems to be 2A, but around my bang it’s 3C. I don’t know if I can start CGM and all my hair could be wavy/curly. I really don’t like straight hair on me..
I'm sure I've low porosity hair. But the moisture I use don't penetrate my hair. Only if I use heat, styler or curl iron, it's get smooth, shiny and soft. But air dry my hair: it's frizzy , dry and maybe 2b type. I doe the cg method for 7 weeks. No heat, using cg priducts and it's really horrible. Don't look goed but also don't feel goed! I want defined hair when it's air dried. Now I got one big frizzy mass on my head! How long wil it takes to get better? I choose al products without protein, except my shampoo contains protein, but still no moisture gets in to my hair?
So the bottom half of my hair is 3a but the top goes between 2b-2c with pieces at the middle top of my head being 2a.. maybe from color damage? I don’t know but when I try to do my hair it never looks as good dry as it does wet and idk what I’m doing wrong. Been trying cg off and on for 3 ish years now. The bowl method is the only time I’ve gotten pretty good results but it takes so so long to do. Anyone have any advice?
My hair science guru. Any thoughts on the use of chelating agents? So many recommended products have disodium EDTA. IS IT CG says to use sparingly. No more than once a month.
Hair porosity and density is wayyyyyyyyyyy more important than curl pattern. The porosity is going to tell you how much moisture (and protein) your hair needs and how easily it will enter (and leave) your hair. Density will determine how thick of a product your hair can withstand. Some oils just will not work well for low density hair.
My hair is pretty wavy at the bottom but at the top it’s straight with frizz… I don’t have any layers in my hair it’s just a straight cut, should I change this? Please answer I’m so confused 😩
I used to have the same issue when I first started to wear my hair curly- my hair just needed time to adjust. It also had to do with how much of a good job I did to distribute the products all throughout my hair! Now I make sure my hair has enough water and I brush my hair after I apply products and it helps me resolve this
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT! I have a curlier side of my head than the other and thought it was strange but now I know it’s completely fine! Thank you
sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know of a method to get back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost the password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Aaron Bryan instablaster ;)
@Jay Andres thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out atm.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Jay Andres It worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much, you really help me out !
@Aaron Bryan happy to help xD
Omg seriously I didn't realise your hair could vary so much! I have slight waves to loose coiled curls! Like you 2a to 3a/b I also heat curl/straighten.
Seriously! Just like the rest of us, it unique in and unto itself!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one with almost straight hair on the underneath
I’m still kind of confused as to what my hair type is because if I put a styler in it and diffuse it is curly but if I just let in air dry without anything in it then it’s wavy🤧
Me too Magoo! You are not alone! 😁
I’m like a 2b or 2c
Chiming in to represent wavies with no root curl! The first 3-4 inches of my hair is 2a-2b, after which it likes to twist into loose 3a (with the occasional 3b) spirals.
You give great tips, and it's so nice to know I'm not alone in my weird, inconsistent hair pattern. I'm gonna try to follow your advice about products to suit hair texture and porosity, instead of chasing the elusive 'perfect curl'.
OMG! You are so sweet!
I've never really been able to get any kind of curl formation anywhere above like nose level.
ok same but i honestly cant imagine myself with uniform curls that start at the root
Most of my hair is roughly 3a, but I have ONE section underneath behind my ear that's a 3b ringlet. It's nice that it's there, but I wish it would have a meeting with the rest of my hair to join the 3b club.
LOL. I love the way you put that!
Me too 😂😂
I have the exact same hair!!!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I did too, it was precious!
Bridget Ann was your hair REAALLY damaged when u began?
@@iikittydr8503 Oh yeah. I had a horrible reaction so L'Oreal haircare and my hair was fried and even started to thin.
I'm so happy for you. Keep it up/
This video helps a lot, Thank you
I have been somewhat saddened by my hair because it wasn’t poofy and curly all over my hair and it’s rather straight on top with ringlets down at the bottom.
Just stay at it!
I'm glad it helped!
Wow, you are so sweet! Thank you!
YES! my wavy hair can be 2A or 2C based on my haircut, products, humidity, dew point, wind, how I slept, if I have allergies... okay, maybe those last few were a stretch.
Thank you, and best wishes to you too!
Where did you get the hair analysis done?
Lol
This is such a gorgeous look on you!
You're so sweet!
I agree!!
I have 2c and 3a mostly 3a curls and it’s the beginning of my curly girl journey. Excited to see what it will look like in a year
Just remember it's process and keep with it!
Sooo true about the subjectiveness! Starting out I thought my hair was solidly 2A. Now it can seem like 2A-3A locks of hair depending on the day, which part of my hair, etc.
Oh and the left side of my head is almost always much looser than my right side. There are days it's barely 2A on the left and 2C/3A on the right!
Before starting the CGM my hair was wavy/curly underneath and the top was more straightish and now it’s the opposite 🤔
Yeah, diffusing makes a huge HUGE difference for me. It is definitely worth a shot!
This was a great video. Now let's talk about your eye makeup I LOVE IT!!!!!
Hehe! You are so sweet! Thank yoU!!!
Swavy Curly Courtney ....and it is.....??
What eyeshadow are you rocking Courtney....I love peachy tones. Is it sold at Ulta??
I really like your videos! We have a similar hair type and you're the first one explaining techniques in a way that helps me. Could you maybe do a video about gel? I would be particularly interested in how to find out if I use too little or too much. Also, proper application and distribution through hair without disrupting the clumps. UGH.
You are my absolute FAVORITE!
I love watching your videos; you always give so much great info, while SHOWING us what works best for your hair...
Our curl patterns are super similar, but our porosity's are different...
But I do love to see what certain products do for your curl pattern!
Aweeee. You are so sweet. Thank you!❤
I love your hair! There really is a lot of complexity to the Curly Girl Method. Some products make my hair have zero curl, and other products do a good job of enhancing the curl, but technique matters too. I have a long way to go. I will schedule a curl coaching session!! Thanks for being you!
You're so sweet! I look forward to it!❤
You are so good at explaining things! Thank you!!
If I just wash with no styler it goes nearly straight when brushed and looks very dry and it's super disappointing 🥺
I've watched your Curly Girl 101 video and it's so helpful!
Oh my, that is funny!
Courtney where have you been all my life! This video is so helpful and I'm feeling so much better about my wavy/curl journey now. Lately I've been feeling like I'm missing something from my routine and this video has given me some areas to look into but also a better way to find out what is best for my hair. Thank you!!!!
I’m the opposite, I get spirals underneath!😂
Melissa Andrews same!
Me too
Me too! And right by my ears 😊
Same
Melissa Andrews same
I have different curls plus one side curlier than the other. Plus, straight in places and underneath. You so right!!!
Wow! You definitely😍 have a cocktail of curls!
So at first when you paused to talk about “S Waves” my first reaction was “ugh this WiFi sucks!” But never mind. Lol! 😁
Great video!
Daniel Castañeda Buahaha thanks Daniel!!!
This is the video I’ve been waiting for my whole curl life.❤️
My hair is 2a/2b but when you said waves/curls can be tighter on one side than the other, i felt that.
You ar very welcome. Thanks so much for sweet words!❤
I should add that I am guessing the Clarifying Cleanser is the only product that might have Sulfates
I’m so glad you labeled the two curls you have hanging out!! I was wondering what those would be classified as because they look like my curls, which I had been calling a 2b-2c curl type!
She said 3A but to me they look more like 2c
Just keep at it, and I'm so glad you found this helpful
You r right! I have a fine, medium to high porosity, low density hair...Recently, i bought a botanical shampoo. condition, and a styling cream that works on fine high porosity hair (the product says "for all hair types" but, i get the recommendation by some fine high porosity hair girl) , i bought a gel too....i just cant believe! My hair looks curlier now! Totally agree with you
Thank you!
Really informative vid as always. LOVE your eye-makeup and brows!!! 🔥
Best explanation of curl types! Ty! Tara,OKC
Love your baby spirals!! Awesome info!!
😃 Your too sweet!
The nape of my neck is ringlets and the rest is 2b 2c.
Hi, thanks for the video, I started in January, in Belgium we don't have a lot of products so I use what I can find. Your videos are helping.
I'm so glad they are helping!
What an awesome video...helped me understand a lot more..Thank you & subscribed!
Yay, I'm so glad!
How often can I use the repair me curl junkie protein treatment? Is that only a once a month treatment?
One of my favorite videos of yours! Super helpful!
You are too kind! I am so glad you found it so helpful.
Thank you, Courtney. The chart, numbers, letters were wrecking my hair world. I’m more relaxed now😂😂
LOL thanks!
I'm still confused about porosity, but thanks for the info
Thank you❤ I have 2a/b/c
Thank you! This video was so helpful!
You are so helpful! Thank you Courtney for all your content!
Wow you are so sweet! Thank you!😃
i have some bug ringlets, mostly inthe front and top layers, inbetween is an s shaped wave and the nape of my neck barely has any texture at all.....
COURTNEY!! YOU HAD TO UPLOAD WHILE I WAS MAKING FLAXSEED GEL FROM YOUR TUTORIAL!? NOW I’M NOT EARLY
😆
OMG YES SCIENTIFIC HAIR TEST RESULTS COMING 😍 I can't wait!
Yes, It is exciting!
Fantastic advice as usual! Thank you!
Thank you!❤
So the bottom half of my hair is 3a but the top goes between 2b-2c with pieces at the middle top of my head being 2a.. maybe from color damage? I don’t know but when I try to do my hair it never looks as good dry as it does wet and idk what I’m doing wrong. Been trying cg off and on for 3 ish years now. The bowl method is the only time I’ve gotten pretty good results but it takes so so long to do. Anyone have any advice?
From what I've been seeing, my hair has a combo of 2b, 2c and even 3a.
Same!!
Cute hair and makeup!
OMG! You are so sweet! Thank you! 😃
Why would you ever straighten your hair to immediately curl it after? That sounds really counter predictive. I mean you heat it when you curl it?
My hair science guru. Any thoughts on the use of chelating agents? So many recommended products have disodium EDTA. IS IT CG says to use sparingly. No more than once a month.
Hair porosity and density is wayyyyyyyyyyy more important than curl pattern. The porosity is going to tell you how much moisture (and protein) your hair needs and how easily it will enter (and leave) your hair. Density will determine how thick of a product your hair can withstand. Some oils just will not work well for low density hair.
Yassssssss! THANK YOU!!! :) Have a great Friday!
Thank you so much! You are so sweet. I really appreciate you! *hugs*
I have anywhere from 2a on top to 4b underneath
Does hair porosity change?

Thank you so much. You are so sweet!😊
I’d like to see a curl expert. Anyone know of one in Los Angeles? I can’t figure out my hair type. I have a combo of too many.
My hair is pretty wavy at the bottom but at the top it’s straight with frizz… I don’t have any layers in my hair it’s just a straight cut, should I change this? Please answer I’m so confused 😩
Hanna keep your eyes peeled as I am editing my latest hair cut video! It should answer your questions about what hair cut works best for my wavy hair.
I used to have the same issue when I first started to wear my hair curly- my hair just needed time to adjust. It also had to do with how much of a good job I did to distribute the products all throughout my hair! Now I make sure my hair has enough water and I brush my hair after I apply products and it helps me resolve this
I have fine hair with a few random course hairs lol.
2b or not 2b?
Buahahahhahahabahahahhahahahahahhahahahahaha dang. I wish I had thought of that!
i have 2b waves all the way to baby 3b spirals on my head this is just
on a totally different subject. Your eye look super.
You are my curly girl mom.
