I bought Marcus Rashford's Wrecked Rolls Royce wraith from auction and now im going to rebuild it. We managed to get it driving in the last video but now i need to look at the structural damage which is not only expensive it also takes specialist repair. Im going to attempt it myself.

Always nice to see the manufacturer/dealer willing to lend a hand rather than gatekeeping all their helpful knowledge
It’s so hard to do. The hoops I had to jump through when he came to our dealer were immense. The good news is now my whole dealer network is up for it 😅
The coverage mat gets. It's in their best interest tbh ;)
Hi bro!
The engineers are usually happier to help, it's the corporate side that doesn't want to share.

Hey Matt. I'm a BMW Body Technician with 12 years of experience, so I love to watch your videos.
You are not doing bad, but need to remember some steps, like welding spray called Inox in between the joined parts where you have sanded for weld connection, and you have to apply more glue in between the aluminum and steel part to make sure everything is covered and has some spacing between it, since aluminum will corrode way faster than iron.
On the rear quarter panel you have to actually replace it because of the bonded seem in the wheel hole, but you can ( not professional fix and not approved fix ) go over it with a sealer or body glue to make sure it's closed for no rust in the future.
There's some more points but you learn every time you do a car and it's great to follow your development.
Keep up the good work :)

I'm a Body Structures Engineer ( worked on Rang Rover, Defender and jaguars). Original Rivets are SPRs ( self pricing rivet) and can only be fitted with SPR gun which require double sided access. The one you bought are called POP rivets or mono-bolts. If you are using mono-bolts, make sure correct adhesive specs suggested by BMW/Rolles Royce is used. Otherwise it might fail. Front structures performance is is very crucial in high speed crash.
disclaimer: Just a suggestion
BMW use mono-bolts for repairs because you often don't have access to use SPRs. They use SPR at the factory because it's all assembled in order so they have access. Mat is also using the same BMW panel bond here which RR use.
SPR's are in use mostly due to speed not strength, the rivets he installed are probably stronger than the factory aluminum SPR's.
Sure, I also think that Mono bolts can do. Trust me foreal 😊
Interesting info. Thanks for posting. Just wondering whether the structure repaired in the video is little more than a headlight support bracket. The design looks, to me as a layman, to have very little in the way of impact resistance, so not playing any part in structural safety in the event of a frontal collision.
Self-Pierce Riveting (SPR) is a process used to join two or more layers of material without a predrilled or punched hole. Self-piercing rivets are the connecting element for joining aluminium parts, mixed connections, and combined joining and gluing without emissions.
Coming here and hoping you see this Mat. I’m 34, American, never searched a thing about super cars or rebuilds, and some how the UA-cam algorithm showed me one of the McLaren videos. I ended up watching that entire series and have been absolutely hooked since. I’ve binged the Audi Q5 up the the Audi R8 and I’m loving every bit of the content. You have quickly grown to be one of my favorite UA-camrs. And side note, your dad is one of my favorite people that I wish I could meet. Y’all seem like genuinely good people and I love the channel. Never stop doing what you love!
Just a quick shop tip when you are welding in a nice engine bay put a fire blanket over the engine. Those hot sparks will melt little pock marks into hoses and plastic covers if they land on em. Can also be bad if by chance it landed on part of the wire loom and melted through.
Best channel in the car space right now . Keep it up Mat!

One thing i know for fast African panel beaters know there work. 👌🏾 I did know this guy in London and he dont buy body parts to fix nothing and when he done it's even better then the one off the shelves only thing it take time ⌚ 🤦🏾♂️ which i didn't have so i will buy the parts and bring to him for fitting and he didn't like that 😁😁😁..
I have an AVO Mexico which I've had since the late 90's. Was hit by, of all things, a bloody Metro! Old lady pulled out on me and took out the rear quarter (steel Forrest arches). Was devastated as the car had a full metal respray just a few weeks before. Called up a friend who is a panel beater and he arrived with a couple of friends. Truly a science and real magicians! I sat there in amazement watching them work away until they weaved their magic on the rear quarter (very similar damage to your Rolls). Took an afternoon but was astonishing what they managed to do. I have nothing but admiration for their skills. The body shop where I had the car painted took pity on me (think they really liked the car and the colour) and did the touch-in respray for absolutely free! I still have the car to this day. I still rag it around hard as it should be driven. You would never know the damage was there.
The best part of your videos is dad is helping and having a fun repairing cars with his son

I usually don't leave comments on UA-cam videos, but I just had to this time. I really enjoy watching your videos! Although I'm not familiar with car mechanics, I love problem-solving. Mat, you have an incredible talent for pinpointing issues and figuring out how to fix them.
Pro tip Matt- get a welding blanket and throw it over the engine bay while you weld, keeps those sparks from doing nasty things to the exposed plastics, and from possible fire.

Was gonna say same thing.. watching the splatter hitting the plastic engine parts was making me wince! 😮
Mat, the sensor in the grill is a night vision camera & the spirit of ecstasy cover should have x4 small springs fitted underneath it 👍🏻
I was gonna comment the exact same thing lol. One can even see the ACC in the bottom part of the bumper where BMW puts it. So it can only be a night vision or thermal camera as BMW also put those cameras in the grille.

❤ once again such a thrilling episode, to see Margret (Maximus) Mansory come to life and be rebuilt. What an amazing team around you. Great to see Freddie taking time out from the wiring loom. Keep it coming can’t wait for the next instalment of Maximus Mansory. “Are you not entertained”!
The most amazing inspirational person I have never had the pleasure to meet. Matt is the best.
Mat, some friendly tips for you with body work:
Don't use a belt sander to grind out spot welds, this removes material from the adjoining panel that you want to keep. Always drill spotwelds with a spotweld drill bit.
Always cover glass with at least some thick cardboard, fire blankets are best, but cardboard is the cheaper option. This prevents any sparks from burning the glass, you'll be surprised how far those welding/grinding sparks fly, and quickly make small burn marks.
Anyways, great videos!
i commented on the spot weld drill bit earlier, but it's a diy store tool inventory it seems...
22:42 maximus
You are absolutely right, but to be fair, his main use of the sander was to undo the welds on the wrecked brace, and then he used it to grind down his new welds. I was surprised to see him using a smallish regular drill bit to tackle spot welds too.
Let's have a little shout out of appreciation for Marcus Rashford and his car guys for passing on the parts, they didn't have to and it's a proper cool gesture. Another appreciation shout for the Rolls Royce tech, passing on simple yet essential information to help out. Superb. Great progress, can't wait to see this finished and 'Rolling' on the roads!

He'd sulk off when he is asked to do some work.
He would pull a hamstring trying Mat's new stronger brake pedal.
Sell it back to him for a mil
Long time subscriber. You can use a all direction spray straw for the cavity wax. The factory has a process to get wax into the panels.
Pressure bleeding is absolutely the best way to get the air out with ebrake systems.
Pro Tip from a Euro tech, you can pressurize the brake system by pumping the pedal up, and crack the hardlines at ABS module block, the air will escpae from behind the flare fittings and it will resolve the airlock issue at the Module. You can do this at the master cylinder or any other air lock point with a joint.
Good tip if you swap an abs module but you’ll still need to bleed at the calipers after!
does this also work for honda fit hybrid?

I’m completely invested in this series.
Me too, knowing absolutely nothing about cars. Mat presents so well, I would argue way better than mainstream TV and their offerings.
Me too. I literally look forward to new videos particularly on this Mansory Rolls Royce
Matt, when you weld, can you talk about what equipment and settings you are using? It would be helpful for us amateur welders out here...
So when I used to work on cars I worked at a salvage yard and we would cut the whole quarter panel off of the damaged car with a saws all and a torch, then we would take the quarter panel off a donor car and weld it onto the salvaged car easy fix and works amazing. You can not tell the difference after it’s painted.
