Entertaining little movie. Although no masterpiece it provides a very enjoyable, often comedic, romp through the back-lots of mid-thirties Hollywood. Also, it contains some fun dance routines including one involving some cleverly constructed masks of movie stars, many who are still well known.
I quite like these little-known movies from the early days of 'talkies'. How lucky we are to be alive at a time when we can, with little effort, share the same pleasures that entertained audiences now long gone. For me, old movies provide the closest thing there is to a time machine.

William Haines was a huge star in the silent era and into the early talkies, playing a boy-next-door leading man with a comical edge. This I believe is his last film after leaving MGM. Haines was openly gay and was on several occasions arrested when "gay clubs" were raided by the police, and was known for his wild parties. MGM of course covered it up as much as possible but Louis B. Mayer finally had enough and fired Haines, although some say Haines wanted to leave anyway knowing the "jig was up" so to speak and he would no longer get leading man roles. But Haines was smart and using his close friendship with Joan Crawford and his many industry connections, he started a very successful and long lasting interior decorating business. He became known as THE decorator to the stars, doing over many of their
    homes.

A stunning work of film art? Far from it. But it was entertaining. It was good to see William Haines in one of his talking pictures.

I find these kinds of films highlight the quality of those that have survived in the public consciousness - e.g. It Happened One Night and the Astaire-Rogers musicals

Interesting that the film's writer, Dore Schary, ended up running, er, ruining, MGM some 20 years later.

So, you take abuse for a long time. Abuse and lying from a man. What a terrible message that at the last second she just excepts this crap. But I did enjoy a lot of the movie!

The guy singing the "Hush Your Fuss" song on the piano is Parker Gibbs I believe. He's credited as Ray Mayer though but his singing voice is unmistakably Parker Gibbs who sang with Ted Weems orchestra during the 30's. Very hard to find info on him sadly. Here is one of the popular songs of the day, "Piccolo Pete" where you can hear his voice. You be the judge. =) ua-cam.com/video/kDaPfJOXr-E/v-deo.html

When that phony, Meyer told Haines to get married. Haines quipped, but I'm already married. Haines & his partner were together for 47 years, upon Haines passing. Haines interior decorating was later known as Hollywood Regency. Just incredible design & that included furniture.

This movie has great character actors , gorgeous Wampas baby stars and stared William Haines the first openly gay movie star and unfortunately he paid the price for it. 1934 was the last year for Wampas Stars none of them became stars like so many in other years did, such as Joan Crawford, Clara Bow , Gingers Rodgers just to name a few
