A film publicity man uses his skills to make this fiancée, June, the most famous movie star in the world. But June begins to believe that he may be more invested in her success than in romance.
Entertaining little movie. Although no masterpiece it provides a very enjoyable, often comedic, romp through the back-lots of mid-thirties Hollywood. Also, it contains some fun dance routines including one involving some cleverly constructed masks of movie stars, many who are still well known.
I quite like these little-known movies from the early days of 'talkies'. How lucky we are to be alive at a time when we can, with little effort, share the same pleasures that entertained audiences now long gone. For me, old movies provide the closest thing there is to a time machine.
I agree 100% Thank you for your comments .
Well said and I agree
I concur.
William Haines was a huge star in the silent era and into the early talkies, playing a boy-next-door leading man with a comical edge. This I believe is his last film after leaving MGM. Haines was openly gay and was on several occasions arrested when "gay clubs" were raided by the police, and was known for his wild parties. MGM of course covered it up as much as possible but Louis B. Mayer finally had enough and fired Haines, although some say Haines wanted to leave anyway knowing the "jig was up" so to speak and he would no longer get leading man roles. But Haines was smart and using his close friendship with Joan Crawford and his many industry connections, he started a very successful and long lasting interior decorating business. He became known as THE decorator to the stars, doing over many of their
homes.
A stunning work of film art? Far from it. But it was entertaining. It was good to see William Haines in one of his talking pictures.
I find these kinds of films highlight the quality of those that have survived in the public consciousness - e.g. It Happened One Night and the Astaire-Rogers musicals
Interesting that the film's writer, Dore Schary, ended up running, er, ruining, MGM some 20 years later.
baby Stars -They look quite grown up to me....at least with William Haines around it was safe backstage.
Lol😉
Good one.
*Beginner Stars* should say probably ...
No you're looking at it like someone is a baby doctor. The doctor isn't a baby! They weren't saying the stars were babies... When they said Baby Stars they meant "starlets"!
So, you take abuse for a long time. Abuse and lying from a man. What a terrible message that at the last second she just excepts this crap. But I did enjoy a lot of the movie!
good characters in this story, thank you for this movie.
Yikes! William Haines can't act, at least not here. No wonder his career tanked with the talkies. Sorry for the negativity.
💖💐 I love the way everyone accepts each other for who they really are. 💎🏆
The guy singing the "Hush Your Fuss" song on the piano is Parker Gibbs I believe. He's credited as Ray Mayer though but his singing voice is unmistakably Parker Gibbs who sang with Ted Weems orchestra during the 30's. Very hard to find info on him sadly. Here is one of the popular songs of the day, "Piccolo Pete" where you can hear his voice. You be the judge. =) ua-cam.com/video/kDaPfJOXr-E/v-deo.html
It's gone! Been taken off!
terrific film, great costumes...an era long gone.
03:24 - "Will Rogers,... Wallace Beery,... Mary Pickford, Paul Muni, and Mussolini. They sure are a nice bunch of telegrams."
May you and your family, love ones, and beautiful views know and understand the mysteries of the kingdom 👑 Amen💎May you all have enlightened 🌉 love the move 🍿great movie 🎥 20 Stars you never disappoint 🔥 Amazing
When that phony, Meyer told Haines to get married. Haines quipped, but I'm already married. Haines & his partner were together for 47 years, upon Haines passing. Haines interior decorating was later known as Hollywood Regency. Just incredible design & that included furniture.
She very pretty love classic movie films! 💗
Nice movie. Thanks!
they can live again y ressurrection. john5.28,29
Beautiful
i have never seen a William Haines movie until now.
So have I
va va va voom!
Great movie thanks for posting
That scene with the men coming out in papier mache' masks of famous actors/comedians of the time - weird! I don'tknow anyone that can name those famous "faces'".
I can. I agree, that was a creepy scene, especially when the girls held the masks above their heads.
This movie has great character actors , gorgeous Wampas baby stars and stared William Haines the first openly gay movie star and unfortunately he paid the price for it. 1934 was the last year for Wampas Stars none of them became stars like so many in other years did, such as Joan Crawford, Clara Bow , Gingers Rodgers just to name a few
young beautiful and white
Creme de la creme. That's what has created Civilization.
It's the 1930s.
Goes together :)
There’s always a racist that is only concerned with skin color.
only white is beautiful
What's with the flashing thing on the side?
If it's banned just take it down, don't make it unwatchable.
Was one of my favorite pizza flicks.
Love the phony Laurel & Hardy dance routine...

Good Times !!!
She's a star an hasn't made a movie🤔lol✌️
No PLASTIC faces.¥
Why did all the male vocalists from that era sound like they'd been castrated with a dull knife. Uff Dah. Hey, guys, sound off like you have a pair!
never heared of any of those young women...not surprisingly.
Not that bad a film. But I can do without the likes of William Gaines. Thunnuvva biththth.
A good movie
"⭐Stars arent born they're made"
This as in most of these era movies featured guys that all use the same uneducated toughguy patter in their dialogue.
Looks like a "Cancel Culture" Training film! Loved it!
scadalous
And their marriage lasted 6 months...
I absolutely love watching old movies.....if they have good sound. Couldn't finish.
Homoerotic sub text?50:35.
If it's 'homoerotic', William Haines won't be far away.
@@leelarson107 Are you say Mr.Haines was that way?
Young and beautiful ... my dippled crack. Nothing but OLD people in this.
Safe to say that they are all dead now.....
William Haines croaked from lung cancer in 1973. A lot of men felt much safer after that. The women were never in danger.
Absolutely terrible. What a waste of my time. A glorification of a shallow and meaningless industry. There is no redeeming quality in this film whatever. Pure junk.
Flu x
You must be sick....
“A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, ‘You are mad; you are not like us.’” -St. Anthony the Great
Notable for one thing--one of William Haines' last pictures after being dumped by MGM for refusing to conceal his homosexuality behind a sham marriage. Louie B. had him blacklisted. "You'll never work in this town again!"
You must be a million laughs at parties.
@@robertdoherty2001 interesting! This is great. Corney but great. Archaeologists will look at this and say "Wow!"
All you folks who think there's ANYTHING good about this film....should see a few more films. What a WASTE of the great Franklyn Pangborn.
