RIP Mantan, thank you for all the years of making us laugh. The girl reminded me a heck of a lot like Lois Lane, Perry White was in there, she mentioned the name Clark and Superman also.
Thank you so very much for putting the great comedian Mantan Moreland’s rare movies on UA-cam. I’m 73, and I’ve never seen him in anything other than a few “Charlie Chan” movies and “King of the Zombies.” He’s an American icon.
I have been a fan of Mantan Moreland for decades. I am 64 years old and discovered his movies when I was very young. I just now discovered your channel. I am not Black but I'm not blind. I know great talent when I see and hear it.
The best channel on UA-cam!!!! We subscribers support you, keep up the stellar work. Our children and grandchildren can see all of our wonderful actors because of you!! Blessings! 💯🙏🏽
@@simonwarner1397 yes…that’s where I discovered him….loved the predictive conversation routine he does with the other black gentleman …whose name escapes me….
I love all his films. He's a great character actor and comes up with all sorts of hilarious lines and sometimes it's just the comedic looks he gives. We need more actors of his calibre. I also wish that the TV film channels would screen some of his films. The station Talking Pictures screens the odd Charlie Chan film- sometimes with him in it. I'd love to get a box set of his films and just enjoy them
Clever little thriller if you enjoyed it check out The Sphinx 1933 starring Lionel Atwill unfortunately there is no Mantan Moreland to supply comic relief but it it is still a good thriller. Thanks for posting.
Did not realize this movies a remake of The Sphinx (1933). Who knew they were already making remakes in the early 1940's??? Edit. Well they did of course make remakes of all the silent pictures. But The Sphinx from 1933 is a talking picture.
I love Mantan Moreland! He was a fantastic comedian, but capable of dramatic too. I discovered him on the old Charlie Chan movies 🍿. I’m so glad he’s remembered for the fantastic actor and person that he was ❤. He always got 3rd billing, but he deserved 1st. Check out William Best too. Bob Hope said he’d rather work with Best than any other actor. Moreland and Best were two of the finest actors of the early 20th century.
Mantan Moreland was a genius of entertainment, timing, presentation and visual expression. Without technical special effects. That's a true actor and can not be taught.
Hi Reelblack , i friggin love Manton Moreland a great comedian who split from his partner Ben and never really got the great movies with great punchlines, i dont think he got out of poverty row and Monogram , but so many of us love him. I see him turn up as a taxi driver in this and the other always great Thank you.
I loved that piano part had my heart racing oooooh, I loved the fact that they kept searching the piano too....... 😂😂I'm 34 yrs old watching these I've never seen em🤣
The phone bit is a hoot . I saw a film once where the guy got fustrated and dropped the phone into a fishbowl , bubbles started comeing from the earpiece and when the bubbles hit the surface they popped and the woman's voice was still riseing hell. So funny . 😊😅😂
Moreland has a bit more screen time in this than in most Charlie Chan movies, so this one's a real treat. And though built on an illogical premise, the film's great. Suspenseful, fast paced and has really wonderful characters. And the comedic touches are done really deftly which in that era is not all that common.
@JONATHAN SUTCLIFFEgood day Jonathan you might not understand my meaning about the name or word boy. It was derogatory towards black men during the slave days up until the 60s and civil rights movement. I hope you understand now😉👍
@@edfitz3765 Mr. Hamilton resembled and sounded like Clark Kent's boss from "The Adventures of Superman". After the movie I researched on Wikipedia. That was the final confirmation. I used to watch that series as a child. "Look up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. No it's SUPERMAN!"
Mantan Moreland was in a lot of movies, got paid well, and lived very well. He was funny, intelligent and was one who got jobs in movies in a time that a black man had problems in that area, but not him.
Mantan Moreland never disappoints me I love ❤️ it when his eyes pop out but there is another who falls under the radar, Warren Hymer, his facial mannerisms everything about him, hilarious it’s too bad he died so young 😪
I like these older movies they are more respectful compared to now a day movies.. I really like Mantan Moreland's acting in all the movies I seen so far of him in . 😎👍🏼😎👍🏼
This is a real case of the good ol boys protecting each other..... Protecting the guilty in the face of overwhelming evidence. Real life right here frfr
A B-Picture from Poverty Row has a good plot and good acting personas. Critics nay call the whole thing "childish" but I liked it. Simplistic but entertaining.
My man say, "I'm supposed to send a man to the electric chair today. Is this where I does it?" Uh-uh no sir 💀🤣 You sending him to the electric chair today, baby? Is that what you doing? 🤣🤣🤣
I'm so happy to see an upload tonight... Along with the good news the strikes are being removed, the people came together to save our precious #ReelBlack Library 💎 AND 2k AWAY TO #1MILLIONSUBS💕🎉🎆 If possible can we get a live stream party?😜 Maybe pushing my luck lol🤞🏾🙏🏾🤓
Moreland's role in this one wasn't too big, but it was a good mystery anyway. Of course, the eager prosecutor was a little too eager to go to court before he had solid evidence.

This comment brought back fond memories of Saturday TV watching with my Dad💝
The topper films were great
He's also in Revenge of the Zombies.
April 3rd 2021 I put in the comment section that reelblack would reach 1M before the end of the year - Let's go!

My new favorite channel is back !!!!!!! I was hurt to find out they were messing with this legendary channel
I LOVE ANYTHING starring Mantan Moreland and Dick Purcell !!!
Yeah he also teamed up with Frankie Darro another great actor. When you look 👀 back Mantan made a lot of films 😉
What an excellent wee movie...cheers 🏴

Mantan Moreland is the real talent here. Monogram used him in a lot of movies, so they must have known it, too.

I like that the two police detectives in the early part of the movie referred to Moreland’s character as a “man”and not a “boy.”
I agree calling a black man a boy is demeaning and derogative. Unfortunately that was part of our history 😉 lol

@JONATHAN SUTCLIFFE let’s not bicker 👌 we’re brothers across the big pond although there is some scot in me😊
When Mantan is looking at the mug shot book , he refers to High Pockets , a black man, as not a bad boy . Then comments on 14 years being a long time.
As a black man I agree!
These movies are really good, wish I would have discovered them sooner 😊😁
Mantan Moreland was a great comedic actor. The actor who played Harris also played Perry White in the old Superman tv series.
And did you catch the Superman reference early on?

Great film, acting, plot, ect. Love it.
Dick Purcell and Joan Woodbury were with Mantan Moreland in “King of the Zombies,” too.
Mantan Moreland was in a lot of movies, got paid well, and lived very well. He was funny, intelligent and was one who got jobs in movies in a time that a black man had problems in that area, but not him.
The sad part is there are cases that have been deflected from important men and accredited to innocent people who are still in jail

YES. He always is !!!
Mantan Moreland looks more like Martin lol
@JONATHAN SUTCLIFFE ...if you are talking about Joan Wood- but, see her in "I KILLED THAT MAN". She and Iris Adrian are at their best.
