I loved this film, I was taken back to my school days. I had a teacher like Miss Dove her name was Miss Dixon, she was tweed, brogues and twinsets, firm but fair. I have never forgotten her and still remember her reading to us and making us question everything. I was very fortunate to have had a teacher like her.
The nation needs the pure and industrious spirit depicted in this film. So refreshing it is to listen to the clean , well meant and persuasive conversations and the respect that people have for each other.
Such a wonderful movie and message. As much as she loved all the children I still think she was unhappy with the way her life turned out. Having given up true love just so her Fathers name was not thought of badly was a sacrifice that came with a huge price. I will assume she paid back the $11.500 plus so much more. I always find these old movies far better than what we see today! Thank you for sharing the gentile gem.
Having not a partner in your life, it doesn't mean you are lonely and sad !!! Nuns in monasteries are neither lonely nor sad !!! There are just seldom moments you feel like, but those are rare and you can handle them firmly and quickly, sending those feelings back to Satan from where they are coming (exactly like you do with the jealousy, just the same - the old Serpent, SATANA !!!). Miss Dove, in this movie, is the perfect role model for any of us; the way we should do live our life, in view all of us to have a good life. This role (her job + morality) portraits very well the impact each of our life has towards the others ! We are living together, intertwined, whatever we like it or not , or we don't want, we live into towns and families, and we need each other. A life is NOTHING without the other... LIVING is GIVING. 🤗🥰💖😇💕
Wow, I do not have enough words to describe this gem! What a beautiful and touching movie, filled with deep life lessons. What an actress, impeccable performance! I finished with tears!
Equally important is the realization that students come to, throughout their lives, of how grateful they are for the 'educators' that have set standards, developed their character, and did their best to teach them and prepare them for their futures.
Filme que fala de amor , respeito e calorizaçao do ser humano na sociedade. Uma fase da sociedade que era rígida...mas era maravilhosa. Belo filme. Obrigada por postar.
Its a great joy toappreciate one of few secular movies which appreciate people who supported jews learning in special circumstances and in Jews education when whole world thought that they can not fit in any clas. The use of a visit to a Jewish home to take a Jewish meal is in deed an honour. The movie potrays an ordinally jewish boy who overcame many odds to become a celebrity. Mis dove is one person give to serve all pupils from all walk of life. Kudos
I read the story first then saw the movie later. It stayed with me over all these years. I didnt quite get all of it because i was too young but her devotion i understood. 70 years ago......
This reminds me of a teacher I had in primary school. She was sick in hospital, so the students send her letters and drawings. She corrected them, wrote comments and forwarded them back.
At least now we don't smell. Back when, people didnt use deo as much, had fewer showers & those clothes wouldn't wash - you'd brush out the blazer & skirt/trousers, and only wash shirts & underwear. Also, there was no aircon compare to today - so folks sweated in summer. I also love the fashion of the past, especially the sixties, but if we are honest, travelling on a full train today is probably much nicer, even when wear are all wearing track suits all day.. ;)
Because so many people now think it is cute to dress like the lower rungs of society, like those who dress with their underwear showing and those who want everything hanging out. You know what I mean.
Oh geez! I, so had an English teacher in the eighth grade '67. She still wore the same dark wool 1945 service suits, skipping the white lacy collars, black service shoes and hair in a bun. She too would make each student; girls curtsy and boy's bow upon entering her classroom. I don't ever remember the uh sitting on a stool chair or soap wash out. But I do remember the wooden ruler to the back of your hand or a snap of it to the back of your head even. Somehow, I managed to pass though. Probably because I laid low, ahh! free at last, only to get her again in the 11th grade...lol
@@robinmead5826 how fortunate for you that you’ve never had to hear it. Unfortunately I’ve heard it a few times, at church and elsewhere, usually directed as a dig at women who were assumed to be childless by choice. These comments are especially cruel when the woman in question simply couldn’t. Politicians have said it - I don’t think the clips of national news programs were altered without anyone realizing it. But this movie isn’t about that. It’s about the impact a single person can have on future generations, even without the ties of blood.
It does. It lives in the hearts and life of Our God, in Him, the world is full of joy and love and in Him each of us can reflect it to others. Every word we say can either build up or tear down...
They showed the changing years by having a portrait of the current president on the wall of the classroom! And now, a felon who was convicted of 38 counts, lost a sexual harassment civil suit & was indicted for illegally paying off a porn actress to keep quiet before an election, is running (again) for president.
There was a teacher in my area. Very strict no nonsense - but she prayed every day for all her pupils. Many gave their lives to Christ. After she'd retired, when going to church, a voice spoke to her. You're going to meet the man you will marry. They met. 3 months later they married. He'd had the same leading of God that morning as well.
Brings back the good ol days when boys were boys, girls were girls and there was love and respect for teachers and the USA. My heart cries when I see how far America has left God and American ideals. What a wonderful slice of the good ol days. Lovely movie!
3:52 I was wondering whether it's Than Wyenn. I couldn't believe. But I thought to myself I see & hear Than Wyenn so it must be... I guess as a character actor he was used to playing older characters.
Is this really the same actress? After Miss Dove becomes a schoolteacher, she is unrecognizable. If she were a real person, she would still be unrecognizable from when she was a young belle and a few years later as a school ma'am. Maybe because the film didn't utilize much closeups.
"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." (1 John 1:8-10) Even someone like Ms Dove can't stand before a Holy God on her own merit. Just sayin
What a cruel teacher she was! Asking child to wash his mouth with soap was really common, although this is a fictional film. Corporal punishment was legal and often applied!

I think you missed the real point of the movie! There are different paths to a good life!

A very pleasant film. It motivates every teacher to leave a legacy and bring out the best in the students.❤
Equally important is the realization that students come to, throughout their lives, of how grateful they are for the 'educators' that have set standards, developed their character, and did their best to teach them and prepare them for their futures.
Excellent, the value of a good teacher is life changing to society. Thanks for this classic🎉
I loved this movie so much . Never have seen it . I had a teacher like her, she was married but also
three wonderful old maid teachers. Thanks!
The best movie I have watched In a long time. Those are the values that are lost in society now.
I never tire of this movie. It has gentility, character, and humor.👏💐💗🙋
What a wonderful movie. Those were the days, respect ❤ I was in a school like that in the UK.
Those days it was legal and common for children to be whipped by their teachers, have their ears pulled or worse!
The value of mutual respect has been adequately presented.
Thank you.😊
This is my 3rd time seeing this over the yrs. Watching here in Pennsylvania USA 🇺🇸 This is a tear jerker 😢
Although she never married or had children but instead she had thousands kids, loved and respected by entire city.
This was a wonderful "family"movie. Who could look at this and not be touched by its message. Thanks for sharing.
Anyone who has watched this poignant film will ALWAYS remember it; however keep a box of tissues handy. Thank you for sharing.
Very true. ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the warning 😢

LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS FILM
EXCELLENT MOVIE!! MUCH NEEDED CONTENT FOR TODAY!!!!
It is a beautiful movie I will enjoy it over and over again
The classiness of how everyone dressed, from the adults on the street to the kids at school! How did we lose that dignity?
Sad isn't it?

What a wonderful film. ❤ Only yesterday, I saw my first Jennifer Jones film; Cluny Brown with Charles Boyer. I really live this actress.
