Lindsey's picking style of playing allows him to create the sound of two guitars playing. His thumb picks one tune and his fingers are picking another. His song Big Love really showcases that style as well. Legend.
What you’re hearing at 1:50 is Lindsey Buckingham on guitar. He’s lightly muting the strings with his palm so the notes come out short and choppy rather than ringing out. The outro solo at the end is him too. His roots were in bluegrass music, so he draws influence from the banjo and fingerpicking styles. If you listen to it it does have that banjo vibe, except he’s doing it on electric guitar. He’s one of my favorite guitarists and criminally overlooked.
Christine McVie is one of the most talented members of Fleetwood Mac. Almost all of the song she wrote with them became #1 hits. Song Bird will take your breath away. Please listen to the live version on "The Dance album" Just her and the piano and the boys in the band being memorized by her.
Because Fleetwood Mac is really 5 brilliant musicians, you will always hear something different, in each LP. Because this band is so old, they have evolved in many different ways. The best way to listen to 70's albums is by the album because each album was musically designed to have a theme or to be a kind of sonic story. When you listen to Fleetwood Mac is like taking a musical adventure they created for you to listen to. If you listen to "Rumors" all the way through, you will hear each member of the bands created songs and songs created by them together. If you have time, you should do a marathon so to listen to the whole album, one side at a time. Then you will get the idea the band/album is trying to express. Music then was more than a single like it is now. They wanted radio play, but their goal was to sell the album, not just a song. When you listened to a whole album, you finished with feeling like you took a trip..... Fleetwood Mac has always been famous for their albums; even in the 60's and before Buckingham and Nick joined. Another piece of magic is Christie McVie. She was great before she joined the band and married the bass player. She was Christie Perfect back then, singing blues mostly.
