Songbird is a beautiful song !!Christine wrote, sang and played the keyboard. If you haven’t heard this song, you need to treat yourself to a sweet love song
Stevie Nicks has that iconic haunting cigarettes and whisky soaked voice, but Christy McVie's voice is beautiful and soaring. Her voice and songwriting lift you up, even when she's singing about love and heartbreak. Fleetwood Mac is great because much like the Eagles, everyone brings in their own unique musical talents and voices! BTW Rome, congrats on reaching 100K subscribers!
I agree it sounds like a synth. But with today's technology, it could be another instrument (guitar) with some sound effects box. I've even heard a guitar with a glass slide that sounds like that!
Great description. I pretty much ignored them for decades and then, in 2003, a girl I worked with was always playing their music at work and I got hooked on it. She burned me a disk and I haven't looked back since. I think I own all their stuff now! Once you get started, you just want to keep digging! A freakin' soap opera in real life but such great music!
Agree with the "rabbit hole" comment. With three great lead vocalists and insane musicianship on a variety of instruments, they have a huge variety of great sounds. I've been lucky enough to see them live (I'm old)...they sound even better in person (clean sound) and are all great entertainers. These comments come from a heavy metal fan.
I agree with you. I love their music and their concerts are wonderful. It would be nice if they could all get along again, although Lindsey Buckingham said all of them had reached out to him when he had a recent health scare, so maybe it's just professional strains and not personal.
Christine McVie is not only one of 3 lead singers for the group, and the lead singer on this one, she is also the keyboard player. She plays a variety of electric piano's and synthesizers as well as the regular piano. She is a very talented woman who unfortunately often gets overlooked. Almost any song where she sings lead is great.
My fave of all the double album Tusk. LB really did a lot of experimentation. LB structured most of her songs the her producers like Jimmy Iovine. He knew the right musicians. Waddy Whatell beginning of Edge of 17 for instance
I went to see Fleetwood Mac in 2013, hoping to hear this song live. Only to find out Christine didn't rejoin the group until a year later. I was so heartbroken. This is my all time favorite song by Fleetwood Mac.❤❤❤
I LOVE this entire album: Big Love, Everywhere, and Mystified are all just amazing. There is just SO much Fleetwood Mac, and so much variety, that it's hard to think of it all at once.
If you like this one you'd probably also like "Hold Me" by Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey Buckingham did alot of the production and got those ethereal sounds on the 80s songs. Lindsey's production on the Stevie song "Gypsy" takes that song from good to great. FM had eras of different sounds, the 70s when Stevie and Lindsey were new to the band, the Tusk era, of which I'm not so much into personally but some people like it, and the 80s Mirage & Tango in the Night albums were really enjoyable. Little Lies was on Tango in the Night.
The song came out in 1987 while most of what you heard from Fleetwood Mac is 1970's or early 80's. It has been awhile since you reacted to Prince. I would love to have a day where a hot babe in a "Raspberry Beret" picked me up in a "Little Red Corvette" and we partied like it's "1999". All titles of some awesome songs of Prince from the 1980's.
Rock and roll hall of fame tribute to George Harrison “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” Prince’s guitar solo is so fricking STELLAR. one of the best I’ve seen and I watched LB for 30-40 years. Check prince out..his moves are outRAGEOUS!
As much as you love Fleetwood Mac I can't believe you haven't reacted to 'Dreams' yet! Not their flashiest song but the most special to my heart for sure. Give it a listen, Stevie Nick's never disappoints.
Finally showing love for Christy the other lady in Fleetwood Mac she's an excellent song writer and performer 😚✌️♥️ "you make loving fun " another great song by her ♥️
Finally! Someone is listening to the great Christi McVie! She had a lot of huge hits that were as big as Stevie's and Lindsey's. You should check them all out...Love her voice too! The sound comes from a couple of wheels on the side of a synth that you can program to do what you want. This one is changing octaves. You can have them change the sound from one instrument to another or whatever creation you can imagine. I also have a joy stick on my Korg Wavestations that does similar things as the 2 wheels.
It's a great song, and I'm so glad you finally got to a Christine McVie song! Her stuff is my favorite. Many people have suggested her other songs, but I would recommend Songbird, You Make Loving Fun, Hold Me and Over My Head.
Oh, the sound that you were asking about in the intro was created using a Fairlight CMI synthesizer programmed by Lindsey Buckingham. It was a pretty snazzy piece of equipment in the mid 1980's.
I'm pretty sure the 'instrument' used in the intro to Little Lies is the Fairlight CMI. It's a sampler/synth and many bands in the 80's used a version of it. Of note, Yes used it on Owner of a Lonely Heart.
Check out the big brain on Jim Gates! I think you’re 100% correct. She had DanGarfield do a bunch of programming and he backed them live. He invented MIDI.
I have been loving this song for the last 35 years, so glad you have finally found this beautiful harmony =) btw, synthisizer is the instrument.... which was prevalent in the 70's music
This song is THE SOUND of late 80s , at least in Europe. It is hard for me to imagine that anyone didn't hear in at one or another point on radio. But I am a child of 80s-90s so...
Yes the live version from the dance for sure! On the Fleetwood Mac UA-cam channel they have it titled (Official Music Video) though. It's great though Stevie and Lindsey are singing it to each other by the end of the song lol
Stevie Nicks is absolutely timeless. She has been my favorite female artist since I was in middle school. SOOOOO many of her songs wild make great reaction videos!!
Fleetwood mac is a deep rabbit hole! So many great songs...landslide, rhiannon,Rhianna, silver springs, you make lovin fun, gypsy the list goes on and on! Enjoy!
Yes! I've been waiting for you to stumble on to the not so secret secret that is Fleetwood Mac... they have/had 3 ultra talented singers who could take the lead. Nicks and Buckingham get most of the love and attention but Christie McVie is a monster talent in her own right.
Lots of synthesizer keyboard use in the 80's as bands explored the endless combination of sounds not reproducible with conventional instruments. This album, "Tango in the Night" was a departure for them. "Big Lies" is another song off the album you'll definitely love.
Christine McVie (nee Perfect) is the lead vocal on this tune. A great song from an amazing band. Here's one that might just blow your mind. The song "Black Magic Woman" that everyone knows as a Santana song was written by Peter Green and originally recorded by Fleetwood Mac in 1968. That is a side of Fleetwood Mac that you might find fun to explore. ua-cam.com/video/hRu7Pt42x6Y/v-deo.html
This was huge when I was a kid on Vh1 UK. But when i look back at that era and catalogue it seemed to be overshadowed by "Everywhere" but "Little Lies" was the most shown video when I was flicking through all the music channels.
Little Lies came off the album Tango in the Night from 1987. Mac kind of fell off a bit from the mainstream as the band faced some internal strife and Stevie's successful solo launch. Stevie was dealing with drug issues and was not a main contributor on the record as she battled cocaine addiction. Tango was a huge success that kind of led to a minor resurgence in popularity. Christine McVey really was a huge contributor on this Other hits on Tango were Big Love, Everywhere, and Seven Wonders... It's a phenomenal album
Dude this man is a massive liar, there is no way he doesn't know this! My 3 year old niece knows this and first heard it on radio not me playing it around the house.
This is my earliest memory of a Fleetwood Mac song, I’m in my 30s, and the Tango in The Night album was the first FM album my parents brought on CD rather than vinyl - so it was on in the car a lot 🤣 If you want a completely differently Fleetwood Mac song, you need to check out Songbird
This was probably my first Fleetwood Mac song, too. I like it so much I have three copies of their Greatest Hits album. 🤣 (I bought the third copy by mistake, though).
One aspect of "Little Lies" that I like a lot is how the background vocals complement the lead vocals so well while remaining distinctly their own throughout. Jump straight to "Over My Head", "Say You Love Me", or "You Make Loving Fun" for more great Fleetwood Mac songs sung by Christine McVie.
One of the most underrated artists in all of music is Christine McVie. That sexy voice, her songwriting and her musical talents are outstanding. On top of all that, she's absolutely beautiful. Just great!
I was introduced to Fleetwood Mac by my mom they were her favorite use to dance and sing with my mom when I was a little girl have always loved them and anytime I miss her I turn them on. Rip momma.
In the late 70s I was taking ballet classes in North Hollywood and Stevie Nicks showed up and took a few classes. This was right around the time that Rumors was released and they were my favorite band. I saw them in concert several times in LA. Stevie used to do a wardrobe change every two songs- sometimes even more. I was in awe of both her and Christine McVie. They had so many great songs.
The reason their music is so varied is because they had three talented lead songwriters: Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham. Each brought their own style. Kept their music fresh for a long time.
Synthesizer music opens the song up. Love the way the dreamy vocals are layered over. This band has tons of talent. All of their music is great. Please do "Over My Head", it always transports me to that special place. Loved your reaction and vibe.
Christine McVie Singing this one was Stevie Nicks doing background was pure magic. Fleetwood Mac had going on with the musicians and two singers that are absolutely phenomenal. And don’t forget Lindsey Buckingham was also one of their singers. You can’t go wrong with Fleetwood Mac.
Christine McVie has an incredible voice and we were rarely honored to hear it!!! 💜🤟🎶🎼🎵 Sounds like an electric keyboard.....looks like it in the live version (2015).
The instrument is a synthesizer, which is an electronic keyboard. In 1981, there was a technological advance called MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) that suddenly made synthesizers much cheaper, more portable and more versatile. That's why so much 80's music is so keyboard-driven; it led to an explosion of synths that altered the sound of the decade.
Next Fleetwood Mac song should be SILVER SPRINGS!!!!! Intense with the backstory. Hauntingly beautiful considering the lyrics are literally the truth of Stevie and Lindsey, like all their songs but in particular I dig this one!
I love listening to this song, this song always take me in to my own world when I listen to the melody of this song, and the way you move your head is exactly what I do when I'm listening to this song
That is the amazing Christy McVie on lead vocals! What a voice!

Christine McVie's voice is like a crystal clear mountain stream.
I completely forgot about this song... haven't heard it in decades. So good to hear again! Amazing!!
The sound is a synthesizer. Christine plays it while singing lead.
Yes, many synths have a control for "Portamento", which is whether there's a pitch slide between notes.
Yep very big in the 80's sound
actually it's Lindsey buckingham playing lead guitar put through effects. The man is a GENIUS.
I agree it sounds like a synth. But with today's technology, it could be another instrument (guitar) with some sound effects box. I've even heard a guitar with a glass slide that sounds like that!
This sound that they produce kind of has this etheric Far Eastern feel to it. Genius.
Fleetwood Mac is a rabbit hole. Everything they’ve done is amazing.
Great description. I pretty much ignored them for decades and then, in 2003, a girl I worked with was always playing their music at work and I got hooked on it. She burned me a disk and I haven't looked back since. I think I own all their stuff now! Once you get started, you just want to keep digging! A freakin' soap opera in real life but such great music!

don't forget "Everywhere"...that was great too
She is or was quite a looker too.
Absolutely This song reminds me of where they were.. mostly just Christine, John and Mick.
Yes Christine also had a good single “Got a hold on me”
To be fair, Stevie was the only lead vocalist of the group that didn't really do anything other than sing.
I vote for Fleetwood Mac Tusk. Great song.
I was going to come here and say Tusk, Rhiannon is another good song.

"Songbird" by Christy McVie is beautiful also
This is one of my favorites. Rumors was my 'go-to' album growing up.
Songbird is THE breath of fresh air needed on Rumours. And it’s stunning. Christine is the best.
I walked down the aisle to that when I married my second husband 😍
Yes! Songbird is also a beautiful song with Christine as the lead. Highly recommend.
Christine not Christy.
Check out other Fleetwood Mac songs with Christy McVie on lead vocals like:
Over My Head
You Make Lovin Fun

Hold On
They are all amazing!!

Over My Head is amazing! ☮️💜
Why (from Mystery to Me) is one of my favorite Christine McVie songs.
And Songbird. So beautiful
Should react to "You Make Loving Fun" . Christine sings on that one too.Awesome song. I'm more of a Stevie fan but Christine had some gems too.
Another amazing song by Christine McVeigh ❤️. She will be missed.
"Over My Head" is another that Christine sang lead on.
Such a great song.

My top 3 albums by Fleetwood Mac are
1)Mirage
