- Hey guys, today we have a long awaited video. Checking and adjusting the valve clearances on this 2005 Renault Clio 1.2 16v.
This procedure should work for all D4F engines. - Авто та транспорт
My clio 3 has same engine. I like watching your videos, I became much more knowledgeable than the mechanics here in Turkey😂.
This is the best car fixing tutorials here on youtube. Thank to you I managed to adjust valves in my Twingo 2 (same engine). I first used the values from the Renault manual, that were to tight. Car did misfire after reasembly. Watching Your move helped a lot. Thank You for a high quality content and greetings from Poland. The car is less noisy when cold started and I also have cleaned a lot of mayonnaise from the rocker cover. My wife uses it in poor conditions for 2, 3km commutes so the engine is cold all the time thats where this cones from probably.
It really a high quality content. Great job mate, carry on what you are doing. 👍👍👍
Nice, i will use clio 3 mm clearance for my Proton Savvy (D4F 1.2 16v 722), hello from malaysia.
Thank you so much for the great explanation, the engine in my grand modus works like new
Great Job!!
Thank you for posting this video. Just a question: the order of adjysting the valves is the same to any other car with 4 cylinder engines?
Good job 👍👍👍
Thanks for this, this is the same engine fitted to dacia.
When you slide the crevice meter with the middle value, then move the valve pusher up and down, if you feel the slack, you know that you still need to tighten the valve pusher. Then try to insert the fracture meter with the middle value, if it does not enter, put in a slit meter with low value, and move the pusher up and down. If there is a felt slack, then setting the slack on the valves is correct. Do not regulate the slack with a slit inserted because you are arranging it, tightening the pusher you knead its thickness.
Gdy wsuniesz szczelinomierz z środkową wartością, to poruszaj popychaczem zaworu w górę i w dół, jeśli wyczujesz luz to wiesz że jeszcze trzeba dokręcić popychacz zaworu. Następnie spróbuj włożyć szczelinomierz z środkową wartością , jeśli nie wejdzie, to włóż szczelinomierz z niską wartością, i poruszaj popychaczem w górę i w dół.
4:20 min. Hi, nice video again :) im suprised how many different values are in the table. which of them are the right ones for Dacia Logan MCV2 1.2, y:2016(D4F)? Thanks much
Hi there mate, just done on my 2005 Clio Mk2 face-lift with identical engine, however it now sounds way worse, I did intake to 0.15 and exhaust 0.24 decent drag. I'm not convinced these are right settings as before they were at 1.0 and 2.0 and only slightly ticky
Thanks a lot....🙂
Ďakujeme.
You are very welcome!
Thank you /merci boucoup

Hi, can you put the links to the manual you found?
Hello IV got a clio diesel 2009. Is it hydraulic??
I have Clio Storia 1,2 8V 2009, 135000km, recently a drove a car to the mechanic for preventive valve clearance adjustment. When I don't use a car longer then 3-4 days I hear clicking sound from cylinder head when started cold, after 2-3 minutes when engine warms up clicking sound disappear. I did not heard that before valve adjustment, I changed the oil recently and top up to the max. Should I readjust valves or this is normal when engine is not started for a period of 3-4days.
Sounds like they may have been set a little loose. When the engine gets up to temp the clearances are decreasing and eliminating the noise. If it was me I'd go in and check the clearances myself. Remember to do it with the engine cold and to get the 8v engine clearances.
Thanks.
I have a question I have a clio mk3 with the same engine with 170k kilometers. The engine never had a valve adjust in her life. Will I feel any noticeable diffrence
Very difficult to say I'm afraid. I would recommend doing it if you can hear valve noise or if you need to take the rocker cover off anyway.
Hi there I have on white wire of my ignition coil cut ,do you have picture on where all the 4 wires go
Do you mean the plug from the wiring loom to the coil pack has a cut wire?
Hi from Moldova! Same engine,camshaft with groove,i make 35 inlet and 45 exhaust😊 5.2l on 100km if driving 70km/h. Clio 4,2015
Hello I have a Clio 3 d4f 740 camshaft with groove what value to use ?
The values on the table for the Clio 3 that say with groove.
Ok cool I will use the 28 inlet and 38 exhaust because that's is in between the two values. Thanks in advance
When rotating the engine, is it very bad to go a tiny bit backwards (counterclockwise) if one overshoots the correct point?
It's not good practice, the main reason is that you can jump a tooth on the timing belt potentially.
Thanks!
You are welcome and thankyou for the support.
Is it unusual to have the cylinders numbered in this order, with number 1 closest to the flywheel/transmission and 4 closest to timing belt? The general wisdom online seems to be that it’s usually numbered the other way around, with timing belt side being the “front” of the engine and cylinder numbering starting from there. Is this is a Renault thing, to have it backwards? Or maybe I’m just confused and my lack of mechanical experience is showing.
It is unusual, Renault do it as do some other manufactures. You just have to always know your cylinder order when doing things like this.
I was unsure about the slit/groove and it helped to be fully sure where i needed to look - my engine has the groove.. As i had a good amount of leaks from the valve cover i might as well check the clearance. Wanted to go for the angle method , but ill have a go at the exhaust method too after watching..
Is this relevant for thr D4FT?
Yes however the removal of the rocker cover is different.
How many km you think this engine could last? Mine has 175k
Well the Clio in this video is at 131k miles so around 210k kilometres.
The engines are a very good design and have been in use for over two decades, practically bulletproof. Just keep it well serviced. I'm hoping for at least 200k miles.
@@SocketsAndSideburns waiting for part 4 so next week gonna do It thanks to you
@@SocketsAndSideburns Is part 4 still going to be released?
Sure is. Had some delays but hoping to get it up tomorrow.
@@SocketsAndSideburns ok Thank you
D4F turbo? Identical
The clearances and setting them is the same procedure as in this video but getting to the rockers is obviously different.
@@SocketsAndSideburns I meant valve opening measurements. Are the valves adjusted in the same way on the turbo engine?
Good job,,but,,many talk,,only same isue
PLEASE tell me you have the values for a 740 engine😢.
Those would be the Clio 3 values.
@@SocketsAndSideburns figured that out after. Worked 3 days on that car. Clutch replaced, starter replaced, some tie rods, half a day only to clean the rocker cover. Yours was looking great. Mine had yellow mayo on every square inch of it. And a thick layer too. Car runs great now. Its like a got a brand new one
