    In relation to the post below. I keep reading to set crankshaft 90 degrees off tdc in this position the pistons are all half way down and cannot interfere with valves you can then move the camshaft to tdc without the valves touching anything is this correct? Some say clockwise some say counterclockwise.??

    Hello, excellent videos great technical detail. I could use your help if possible. I have a clio 3 1.2 16v i see my alternator and belt are different but i have aircon. My car was sat for 2 weeks at christmas i tried to start it and it just died straight away. After days of diagnosis i am told the timing belt broke. I know there is a possibility valves may be damaged etc. But after alot of thinking i have ordered a timing belt kit and am going to chance fitting it. Ive searched and searched to try and find out how to set timing on crankshaft and camshaft when a belt has broken but seem to get different answers and its very unclear. Could you please give me some advice on setting the timing when there is no timing belt on.....Thanks.

    I cleaned mine without taking if off, just to see how dirty it was initially as it was dark. The fault code on the OBD reader disappeared though 🤔 but it’s still experiencing stalling after idling. So I’m confident this is my issue that is causing engine stalling. 🤞 Also, thanks for the video.

    Hi! Great video! My Clio is having dificulties to start at the first start of the day (it starts very slow until it fires up) but If I turn the key to ignition twice before starting it will start normal! I cleaned this as you showed but it's the same. What do you think? Fuel pump?

      Thankyou for the support. The clutch is not slipping yet, if it does I will make a video for changing it. If I have time at the end of the summer I may just do it then anyway but unless it slips it won't be before then I'm afraid.

    Just bought a Clio which seem to lack compression. So head may have to come off in order to change valves etc. Problem probably due to previous owner doing a sloppy cam belt swap... Anyhow; excellent and very educative vid. A great help 💪🛠️👍

It shudders much less since I put in coolant and burped it properly.(I realised it was empty and it had the temperature sign).I am wondering if I will need to clean the pcv valve, car is on 92000 Kms.

    This is a brilliant video. I have a question though. I used a diagnostic scanner on my scenic 3 and it says the active fault is 'Rear right-hand caliper actuator Short circuit to earth'. I have ordered the part you have linked from amazon, if I replace it is it likely to resolve the issue? or do I need to look at trying something else?

      It can vary massively parts can be bought for a little over £100 but a garage may charge much more. Labour rates could be £50 - £100 an hour. Typically I would say you could expect to be quoted £350 - £550.

    Yes, a really good explanation. I found that the battery should be placed up against the front of the box, otherwise the angled plastic piece won't drop into position behind the battery. Thanks a lot.

    I've got one of these fun little cars that I probably won't be insuring again next year. It's got the common problem these get with the drain holes getting blocked in bulkhead skuttle and it flows into the passenger side footwell to an almost comical degree. My question is I'm thinking about just drilling a small hole probably just behind the passenger seat in the footwell. Do you remember if there's anything critical underneath like fuel lines, brake cables that run under that side?

    Do not rely on mechanics for 1.2 D4F engines, they do not break down easily, maintenance is easy, even ladies can do it, all parts are visible. The biggest problem is the accumulation of creamy oil in the crankcase ventilation hose. The hose should be disassembled and cleaned with brake spray once every 15 days. Absolute Pressure Sensor MAP should be cleaned with pad spray every 15 days. Unfortunately, the spark plugs fail early in this engine. They should be cleaned occasionally and the nails adjusted. Elf 5w30 or Shell 5w30 oil should be used, and 0w30 oil should be used in very cold climates. If there is a catalytic converter malfunction, it will be fixed if you follow what I wrote. The throttle body should be cleaned with lining spray from time to time. If the catalytic convector malfunction is not resolved, adding Liqui Molly 7110 additive to gasoline will help. 1.2 D4F engines will be damaged by using them at low speeds. An average of 2,500 rpm is good. Sometimes using half an hour at 3,000-3500 rpm will automatically clean the exhaust system. Unfortunately, spark plug cables are insufficient, so if you use a quality performance spark plug cable suitable for the engine, there is a 5-10 horsepower increase in the vehicle's power. There are 2 oxygen sensors. If the idle problem persists, these parts should also be cleaned. I achieved a stable idling speed of 500 rpm in my vehicle, and it climbs steep hills easily in 4th gear. What I like most is that it can take off very quickly while skidding, reaching the power to shift to 4th gear in 5 seconds. The air filter should definitely be changed before 5,000 km. It gets dirty quickly, which is very important for performance.

    It is very difficult to remove the rocker cover on 1.2 D4F engines, the reason is that the 2 bolts are in a difficult place, right behind the dynamo and can be accessed with a special socket wrench. If not tightened well, the rocker cover gasket will leak oil. Oil leakage from the top cover gasket is a chronic problem in 1.2 D4F engines. Cold water is not used when cleaning this cover. It would be great if the cover is cleaned from the inside and the entire engine from the outside with a steam machine priced at 200 USD. As a 1.2 user, I have repair experience. In addition, spark plug nail adjustment is very important. It should be adjusted to 7 centimeters for low fuel consumption and 8.5 centimeters for a powerful engine, for this a setting knife is used. After the engine has cooled down, the spark plugs should be cleaned with an oil remover cleaner and adjusted every 5,000 km. It breaks down without it.

    If you clean with a wire brush, the layer inside the hose will peel off, lose its lubricity and cause more oil to accumulate. Crankcase Ventilation Hose should be cleaned with Brake Spray. In summer, cleaning once every 15 days is sufficient. In cold weather in winter, cleaning may be required every 3·4 days. - In minus cold weather, oil vapor will freeze immediately. If the crankcase ventilation is not good, the internal pressure of the engine will increase, oil will leak from the engine gasket, and since the vehicle rev counter will be irregular, both fuel consumption increases and engine power decreases, the engine runs noisy. For this reason, even if it is ignored, it is a very critically important part.

    Hi, first off amazing video, never seen one with so much detail and knowledge. I wanted to ask a question, if it's OK with you, about the symptoms of the failing or failed PCV/rocker cover internal system? I've got the same issues like mayonnaise in the PCV pipes, the leak from the rocker cover etc, but I also have the added issue of what sounds like tappets/rockers, rather loud and makes it sound like a PD130 diesel 😅. I was just wondering if this was the same case with your clio maybe or what else it could be, as a friend's garage said it is the cambelt tensioner, however my clio is only on 62k. Thank you for the great video, and in advance for any help.

      Hello and thank you for the comment. Mayo in the pipes is not uncommon and neither is the oil leak. As you can see in my video on the PCV system there is isn't really anything to fail just simply block up over time. As for the oil leak you will have to decide how severe it is. The tappets are generally a soft ticking rather than a harsh noise, I would be amazed if they were needing adjustment that badly at 62k. How old is the Clio? The timing belt tensioners can and do break down. I have a video on changing the timing belts on these. You also can actually remove the middle timing belt cover to see the tensioner and may be able to more easily listen to it while manually turning over the engine.

      @SocketsAndSideburns thank you for the reply, and apologies for the delayed response. As it turns out, the cambelt has gone, so thank you for the suggestion. I think its common on 10 plate clios. Unfortunately it's an extremely expensive repair, as there is a high possibility that it has bent valves too, at the minimum, however I was lucky when it went as I was pulling off of my driveway. I'd do it myself, but I just don't have the time. Many thanks again for the troubleshooting and help.

    Gonna being doing this soon on my mk3, regarding the head gasket tho. No overheating and visible smoke is only when it’s cold, however I do seem to be losing coolant over a couple of months at a time. Dipstick has no signs of mayo, is there any other reason for a coolant loss ie thermostat or water pump. No signs of leaks that I can see either

      Other than leaks, mixing, or burning it, there isn't anywhere else for coolant to be going on these as they don't have an oil cooler. Leakage over a couple of months is something I've personally had on a few cars. Such a leak is so small it's incredibly difficult to find. You could try pressure testing the system. I certainly wouldn't change a head gasket over it though.

    Can you kindly help me🙏: I’m dealing with a frustrating issue with this car. It starts up easily, but as soon as I press the accelerator, it shuts off immediately and won’t start again for at least two hours. Even if I don’t press the accelerator, it shuts down after idling for about two minutes, and I still have to wait two hours before it will start again. Even when connected to a scanner, I can’t detect any faults.

      This is interesting. Will it idle or does it eventually stall at idle even if you don't press the accelerator pedal? My guess from what you have said would be a fuel delivery problem, perhaps a blockage or kink in the fuel line.

      @SocketsAndSideburns it starts up very well and stalls after 2 minutes and I forgot the idling is very rough with high rpms I even replaced the Air Throttle body with a new one and scanned it and today it gave the the Code DF123 Throttle potentiometer Circuit Track 1 and DF124 circuit track 2 and DF125 Pedal potentiometer Circuit Track 1

      What you should do now is look at the live data from the accelerator pedal and the throttle position to check they are both responding and plausible.

    Witch button should I press so the radio not is turning off. I was trying to press som buttons but when I went back to press again the radio was off. Was buying a clio mk2 and the wait time is 99 minutes. 😫

    First of all, sorry for my English, I will try to explain myself as best as possible. I have done the procedure as you explain, my question is the following: The order of my coils differs from yours, is there any problem in trying to change the order to see if that is the error? Or can I cause a breakdown if I start the engine with the coils in the wrong order?

    I've noticed a new brake problem on mine , the brake reservoir leans forward so the exit pipe is dry at the back even though the fluids fairly full - do you have that problem? ..... Edit: Ah, seen your air filter video!!

      Yesss! It is a very poor design. I do try to remember to point it out in every video I do on the brakes on these so people are aware as I'm sure it must catch people out.
