In this video we show you how to properly perform the shoulder press machine in the gym. This is a great alternative for the traditional barbell and dumbbell press video, especially to keep constant tension on the shoulders. However, we often find this is done improperly, so we hope this video helps you all out.

What better dumbbell shoulders press or machine press?
Where is the free form guide? Can’t find it
Thank you for keeping it short, explaining it well. Soooo much bad info out there getting back into the gym after a long hiatus and lots of these machines aren't user friendly at a glance. Appreciate you 👊
My shoulders started hurting really bad doing the hands forward grip, thank god for this video I thank you just saved me a lengthy injury
PERFECT TIMING, my gym is opening up tomorrow finally !
wow mine has been open for months
Haha me too
Great info thanks for being so descriptive!
Glad you made this video
Just started working out and need to learn proper form.
Nice Content Idea!!!
Thanks for the quick introduction.
Great advice as always!
Thanks 4 the info...I will coincidentally be using this equipment for the first time tomorrow. U were very helpful.
Great! Straight to the point. New subscriber.
Excellent advice. It's definitely helped me.
Cool thanks bro. I did this for the first time last night and wasnt sure where to be holding the grip. Also I don't think I was keeping my head and back all the way against the back rest. Can't wait til I recover and do this exercise again! Glad that I found your channel.
Really happy to have you here Mark, thanks for watching and leaving a comment
@@ColossusFitness can I use this for triceps? I mainly feel it in my triceps 😎👍
You can't, this machine is purely for shoulders and if you're feeling it in your triceps then your form must be faulty@@kingadjust6201
Thanks. Nice tutorial video.
Thank you....this is one I have trouble with
Thanks for the video . helpful
OMG THANKKK U SO MUCHHHHH
Thank you appreciate
Thank you!
Thank you
My left shoulder hurts on the 2nd hand grip you demonstrated but the first hand grip feels fine.
Thank you so much. This kind of learn fast helps me to recall all of my routine exercises in short period of time before going gym and do it correctly . Thanks
As someone who used to lift for high school and just recently got back into it lmao yeah these really help to make sure I don’t look like a fool at the gym
thank you
Following knee replacement surgery, my physical therapist suggested I get a stationary bike to improve my mobility....This mini exercise bike filled the bill.....easy to assemble, durable, easy to store and most importantly provides the function of an exercise bike that doesn't take up any room in your home or office...
this is great watch... not much of talking ... straight to demo which i like most!
Thanks.
Thankyou
what's the major difference between outside and inside handles using? please explain
Thanks legend
Thanks a lot for the advice man, much much help 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Happy to help you out Dimas! Thanks for watching
Do the different grips work different muscles? I do 125 on both neutral grip and pronated grip, but I can do 10 reps with neutral and only around 4 or 5 for the other.
Which is better for muscle building machine or dumbbells
You guys are some of the very few competent ones who actually advice the correct technique and ROM for a shoulder press. So much half reps (machine and free weights) makes my eyeballs pop. And alignement of the joints it's SO important, no one talks about it. I just see a rotator cuff injury coming at 80% of the gym goers.
Wow thanks for the love Bianca!
Thank yoy
Thanks love from Srilanka 🇱🇰🥰
can you do a video on db shoulder press
Does it work all muscle groups of shoulders..
Which are side rear and front delts
To the point, no run around. Thank you.
This machine humbled me today and I’m not okay
Today I got a sprain while doing this. The back support was laid flat by the previous user for chest press and I didn't bother to retract it back and started shoulder press with the back support. 😔 Not allowed to exercise atleast for a week or two
Nice
Awesome thank you!
You're welcome!
I’m glad you uploaded 😁👍🏻
So happy you commented and watched!
is this machine better than dumbells for big rounded shoulders
Thank you so much. I get immense pain in my left shoulder when i do this exercise. I'll try tucking my elbows and changing grip next time. Subscribed!
Try only going down to 90 degrees, should help with the shoulder pain and still give the desired results
I have the exact same issue. What'd you do to help it?
When should you breath in/out?
Should you have a arch in the back ?
I moved my elbows inward to be lined up with my side and I instantly felt the difference
Seat height is not for lower body length...it's for range of motion of the press.
What do you think is the best range?
@@samuelepelisseri late reply, but the wider the range of motion the better.
This dude don't even looks like he works out lol
Range of motion will depend on lower body length..
Which directly correlates to lower body length. So…
I don’t get it why can’t I do this excercise it’s hard for me to push with my left hand
Great advice, thanks man
Thanks for watching Ayush
@@ColossusFitness helped me out in today's workout, always found these hard to do
Would you shrug at the top to complete the movement? I always heard rippetoe sayin that
shrug is for traps which more back related
thanks
You're welcome!
Yes this is how u supposed to do this press u also need to curl your spine to put less stress on the back
yes. this is good video. Thanks ~ . valuable info.
Do you push your arms all the way up… to the point where they are fully extended or no?
This might be a little late but you don’t go all the way up, you pull just before your arms are fully extended
I used this machine for the first time yesterday. Should I be trying to keep my lower back pressed against the seat? It seems to want to arch in or is that because i'm lifting too heavy?
If you can't lift it without arching your back it's definitely too heavy. Could also mean the handles are too low for you if you are arching at the bottom. Quality matters more than weight. My right shoulder is messed up, but I'm stronger than ever from controlling every rep with care
Would this exercise replace or be the same as the military press? I find military press puts pressure on my lower back, thanks for any info!
No shoulder exercise is gonna be as good as military press, so probs drop the weight down and really work on the form for it
@@user-yh3vc8gh8k is the shoulder press machine good for triceps?
How many for a set and how many sets should I do for this one? Between the sets how long should I rest up?
Just hit like 3 sets of 10 1-2 mins rest
@@hhhhhss6955 thank youuu
❤
Do i need to retract my shoulders while doing it?
No
Why
I'm not an expert... But I've always felt that shoulder machines arent the best option... I feel that dumbbells are safer
the shoulder press machine at my gym really hurts my shoulder. I swear the grip on it is just too far back, poor design. When I use Dumbbells, I feel great.
I only use neutral grip, the other grip feels like it's putting my shoulders in an awkward position.
Great job listening to your body Jay
Same. Neutral grip for me. The other grip makes my shoulders feel very weird. You should also try Arnold presses with these. Kills my shoulder muscles with no joint pain
Hey, I bought the lens from you :)
is this effecting height please.reply fast i really need help
No it doesn't
I've been trying this for a week. First, I thought I couldn't do it because it's just beginning, but I can't press my left side at all. I don't think it's because I'm a beginner. Only the first 10 reps and my left shoulder is done. Can any bro guide me here ??
Same here.
@funs8582 dude, I talked to my trainer for this. This is about training for a long time. Train your shoulders with lightweight dumbells but more reps than usual. If one of them is weaker, train it more than usual. Give yourself a month before trying on a machine. Do shoulders on a bench first for a month.
@@shivammadeafilm Thanks for the advice. I’ll try that and in a few months try and remember to comment again.
It is quite interesting though, with everything else I feel like I’m progressing quite well, but shoulder press feels more imbalanced than anything!
@funs8582 I know, it's kinda embarrassing sometimes when a guy is waiting for you to finish set and looking at you fail at it. But now that I'm doing 5 kg dumbells on bench till failure, I think it will go away after a while..!! Best luck !!
@@funs8582 what happened bro, any progress ?
Aren't your elbows too low?
Word of advice, never go all the way up. You will loose all your tention from the shoulders on every rep.
😍 cute
but none of these work the rear delt??
So do a rear delt exercise then🙄 afterwards , 4 x sets press, 4 sets side laterals, 4 sets rear laterals & four sets of shrugs, a full shoulder workout, you only need one pressing exercise as when you train chest your working your front delts when bench pressing, I don't understand people doing 3 different pressing exercises for shoulders 🤔
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me -Philippians 4:13❤
First
Does shoulder press work my shoulders?
Or triceps 2
Nah works your rectal muscles
@@stinglakabee2082 i was wondering why i could shit after using it... thanks for the clarification👍
No
Yep you weren't joking that these can fuck up your shoulders LOL. I had to sit out for 3 months after injuring my left shoulder on this machine. Guys learn from my mistake and be careful with any overhead pressing.
To avoid any shoulder injuries, use the front grip. Any overhead pressing when your shoulders are to the side will fuck it up.
accidentaly worked out my back :(
I always skip shoulder day😐
Not anymore
🔥🔥
@@ColossusFitness is this for triceps? I felt it more in my triceps 😎👍
I hate this mach
