The closing track on that album, All Things Will Pass, is my favorite of all the Newpeth tracks from the last 12 years. The production on that album is overwhelmingly perfect.

One of these days! Haha. It's an incredible wealth of music and I'm just thankful to be fully appreciating it, one song at a time!

That solo just takes me to another world! So beautiful, great video man

I prefer the Swedish version of this record. Michael wrote the album in Swedish as well. This song hits so much harder in his native tongue.

I suppose I should make it a point to check out the other version!

Freddie akkesson the guitarist is an amazing player,he flies under the radar but he deserves a lot of accolades.
He is also responsible for the guitar work on the last two ghost releases.

So talented, but such a team player. Every note is perfect for the song, not his own ego. He seems to be a cool guy, too.

Amazing, amazing sound. Some of the very best guitar work, no doubt.

I love this song. It is different but it's so beautiful and that guitar solo is in my opinion one of the best if not THE best solo in any Opeth song. I remember reading that Mikael told Fredrik (lead guitarist) to play the most emotional solo possible. I agree with the sentiment that this song isn't as dark as most other Opeth songs. Great reaction.

Solo was so good, for sure. This gives me some ideas for some non-Opeth songs you would enjoy!
I love shredding as much as the next guy, but it's a whole other class of musician that can shine emotion so clearly through their guitar.

A brilliant track which is almost an uplifting ballad, but as always with Opeth there is that unease lurking not far away. Another Opeth song which sounds uplifting and uneasy at the same time is Faith in Others from Pale Communion. A full album reaction to Hand Cannot Erase would be good too. I was lucky to see Steven Wilson on this tour in the UK where they played the album in its entirety. Looking forward to The Grand Conjuration, as far away from this one as you can get. Great reaction again. Thank you.

It's just amazing to me how they can create such a sound, you know? It's hard enough to make happy music that's interesting, let alone happy music that with something darker lurking underneath...
Tom MacDonald's "Dirty Money" (and a giveaway of signed copies of my book!) tomorrow, Grand Conjuration on Wednesday!

Funnily enough, as you say that it sounds happy, but it feels like something is wrong in the song's background, the album's title actually means "Venom in the tail" which means that in Opeth's music, there's always that hidden darkness, there never is a truly blissful happy, major musical passage, you can always expect a twist somewhere.
You should take a look at the songs from the Damnation album. Some beautiful songs there, but the atmosphere just captures that bleak emptiness and that twisted je ne sais quois that really differentiates Opeth from other bands.
I love this song. And your journey reacting to them is fascinating, keep it up! 👍🤘

Thank you! The song definitely threw me for a loop. Damnation sounds like a fun album!

I loved this song from the get go cause Mikael's vocals make my heart melt. 😊
Like bryanmack, my favorite from this album is All Things Will Pass, but unlike bryan, they'll always be 'Opeth' to me. 😉

Steven Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt has done an album together as you might know. Recommend the video of Storm Corrosion - Drag ropes. Also Ihsahn (leprous) has a great song featuring Mikael Åkerfeldt called Unhealer. Great Opeth reactions so far :)

I had no idea there was so much overlap between Ihsahn and Leprous until right this moment when I looked it up. Wow!!!

Great reaction as always, Out of curiosity, do you listen to the tracks again after your reactions? Personally, almost every Opeh tracks took a couple listens for me to truly appreciate.

I try to go back to them, yes! It's a little tricky to integrate them into my library while avoiding the rest of the album though, so it's usually just revisiting on UA-cam while I work.
