I blew my evo x 😥, I was running an access port and when I took it to the dealer (3weeks fresh off the lot lol). Of course I told them I didn't have an access port and I flashed the Ecu 😂. any ways at first I was heated thinking I blew my car due to Running the access port on stage 1. that was not the case, Mitsubishi of Puente Hills sold me the car with in 3 days that some one traded it in for a final additional and never did a full inspection like they claimed. The firmware on my AP is updated to the most recent and according to the Cobb website you have to have v234 tunes to be able to adjust LC and FFS but mine are v231. How do I update my tune files?
You guys do some good work. Keep it up! You both seem to have a good head on your shoulders. I too bought a 2017 WRX Premium off the showroom floor. It was a great feeling. I'm sure you felt the same. Congrats on your purchase and your channel. I'll continue to follow up on you guys.
Hey, Good Video. So the Cobb Stage 2 is only for an Exhaust and CAI? or a Downpipe aswell? Also the Stage 1 and 2 are already preloaded onto the device correct?
@@IraFuse_422 yeah wrx 5-speed and 6-speed are super weak, the gears in sti are like twice larger in width. wrx transmission can do like 300hp but after that you will want to upgrade your gears to sturdier ones

Thanks for the video. Just to clarify if my car is stock and I add stage1 I don't really need to get it protuned? I want the mod more so for everyday driveablity. Apparently it helps with rev hang.
Thats why the company subaru designed that car to be stock out of their factory because is they know it will last when driven normally. If you modify it then it changes the performance but it is not a guarantee it will last.
I got my AP a couple weeks ago. BEST BUY EVER. Been running stage 1 91. stock everything. car's been running really good and definitely a little more powerful. Cobb says I can run the 91 map and use 91 oct or higher when it comes to fuel. does this mean I can run 93 or 94 oct on the 91 map? there's up too 101 octane in my area so I'd like to see if I can play around with it a bit
Jake I would take Cobbs word if they told you you can run higher octanes on the 91 map. But look into finding Cobbs higher octane maps if they offer them, seems to make more sense running the correct octane with the map.
TrackRecord why do you want to run the ets down pipe and not the Cobb since you already have intake exhaust why not the complete system? I've been watching you guys since the beginning pretty much good job by the way and I also learned by your mistakes if that's what you want to call it. I also have a 17 wrx but am just gonna go straight to stage 2 gonna do it one time instead of multiple pro tunes feel it will save me in the end but who knows. Also why have you not upgraded the intercooler yet I have read and heard that's a big problem with these wrx s. And per Subaru these cars can handle twenty psi no problem it's only a problem after that.
I wouldn't recommend ots maps for long term at all. There are many problems that can arise. I only recommend them for starting out with little mods. A custom tune would be the best for a certain car which is better for performance and safety
Krzysztof Kunka A custom tune is always the best way to go. But running the AP for long period of time does no harm. The OTS maps are so conservative that it won't do any harm to the motor at all. Custom Tuning is another ball game and you need to be more careful you don't run more than what the stock internals can handle. But yes a pro tune is the best way to go nonetheless 👍
If I have a cobb access port can I still use the AFR ratios with a protune as like a gauge or would the COBB port flash the protune being put on it and or would the AFR ratios be inaccurate?
So what your saying is that if my mods are just an axelback exhaust and k&n drop ins then I can just buy the OTS tune from whoever and that should be fine?
I want to go to stage 2 on my 2017 WRX. I'll probably get a catted Cobb j-pipe, a Cobb midpipe, a Cobb intake, and a electronic boost controller. Do you know if this will pass the California emission smog test when the time comes or do I put it back to stock before testing? No one really talks about this.
Pitties and a STI anything other than oem cat wont pass smog in California. Intake will pass if smog legal. Boost controller is also fine. But once you mess with the catalytic converter and have an intake that’s not carb legal will not pass.
Piznick64 CVTs will apply the same way, although, Cobb does not recommend going farther than Stage 1, because the transmission cannot handle as much power.
Hi everyone if i have 1 bmw 535 xi ( E60) and my brother brother the 535i xdrive (F10) Can we use the same cobb turning tool or each tool can only works for one car ? Thanks
Okay so hear is my question with some history. I purchased a 2017 STI Base model, drove the car all summer with no mods or issues. Over winter break I installed the NVIDIA N1 CBE, I also purchased the Cobb Access port with Cobb's intake kit (not yet installed). I am not looking to get power gains or anything but wanted more turbo and intake noise. However, I was recommended to get a pro tune for the car and to upgrade the fuel pump/injectors... is the pump and injectors really needed!?
Jdubbs I would say not, especially if you aren’t looking for any power gain. The Cobb accessport will do fine for those mods since that is what it is made for. I ran that set up for months of fairly hard driving and no issues. Anything more than that and I would recommend a protune.
Hey guys! Recent buyer of a 2017 WRX. Just curious what your opinion is on tuning the car vs keeping the warranty. I'm kind of set on waiting the 3 years before going Stage 2 to start. But if you plan to add lots of performance parts over the years I can totally understand that the warranty doesn't matter. But say for a guy like me probably never going past Stage 2 but I want to tune it to do away with the rev hang issue and have a little increase in power, should I even worry that anything would happen to the motor in the first 3 years? (I drive like a normal person. In the middle between high school kid just got his license and driving like a mom.)
windingeagle It's pretty rare for anything to go wrong with your car on stage 2 tune if you aren't doing anything crazy. But it's never a guarantee! Although, I think it's safe to say go for it based on your driving type. Just don't launch it a bunch or hit red line more than you need to!
I have had my subi for about four months now, and im buying a built engine without the heads for 3500 euros the block is ready for 500 hp on pump gas safe and almost 600 on corn.
It's wrong to underestimate the OTS, a lot of development went into them. You really don't need to use COBB's parts, it's just that they are not guaranteeing that the part you interchange will work; their OTS maps are meant for typical intake and exhaust upgrades. And beyond that, ECU custom tuning is important. Aside, with just a Stge 1 map on my WRX, output is more consistent.
I have a 2021 WRX Mods: 1. Drop in air filter from grimmspeed 2. Post MAF hose from grimmspeed I’m currently running stage 1 tune 91 octane v400 from Cobb. My boost before tune even in cold weather was 18.9 psi now my peak boost is 16.8 psi. I do live in Colorado (Denver) at a higher elevation. I talked to a pro tuner he said try HWG map but Cobb is telling me that’s normal for my car. What are your thoughts on the matter?
Thanks for the video. You had mentioned that as you increase mods, you may have to replace other parts so that they can handle the increased power. This makes sense. Can you tell me though, if I got a COBB Stage 2+ power package (tune, intake, and turbo back exhaust) on my '17 WRX, would the other stock parts be able to handle that kind of power without breaking?
If I was to buy my parts and put them on my car would it be safe to drive it 3 hours away for a tune ??? There are no tuning shops anywhere near me and it sucks a lot!
MsWRX it would really depend on what parts are being put on, something more simple would be fine, but something like a full exhaust would be more risky. Some shops will send you a temporary tune to load onto your AccessPort (if you have one) to drive down then they will retune it there.
+MsWRX it depends on the parts you are gonna install your self. Once you starts messing with the down pipe your gonna wanna run at least a stage 2 Cobb tune before driving bc turbos are very fussy and rely on proper air flow. And certain mods increase flow and the computer needs to be able to adjust properly
TrackRecord thanks so much ! I always loved subies I just couldn't afford one until now . I got a 17 wrx back in April and it's my best friend , I just want to make sure I'm not doing nothing that would hurt me in the end. So far your vids have been helping but I will be getting an access port in a few weeks !
I have a 2013 VW GTI. I'm considering working my way up to a stage 2 with a 91aki file because Oregon gas sucks. How reliable is cobb? So far I know that APR and Unitronics are the ones that are recommended to me the most. But, I would like to havw ghe ability to switch files or maps depending on hardware and or gas quality and octang of where I am at. That's why I'm looking imto cobb
+bandgeekforever100 Cobb is pretty reliable. No issues so far on the wrx and with the access port you have the ability to store different maps whether they are OTS or custom.
Im running the stage 1+ on my gti, haven't got a downpipe yet so I don't know how the stage 2 tune performs. I haven't had any issues with it so far and i've been tuned for over 10k miles, granted my clutch did slip a bit but that's because of a shitty stock clutch and all the extra power.
Miguel Eguigure I believe the Cobb access port does come with a base tune that doesn’t require any mods. This will mainly just smooth out the power and and give you a bit better of a driving experience. Any power gains will come with the mods.
The merc with a mouth no you don't need it, but if you want to have a tune on your car to get the most out of your mods, then make sure you take it to a pro tuner.
is there a tune to just get rid of rev hang and have smoother overall power? want a 2018 wrx but the rev hang is almost a deal breaker for any new car. ruins the fun in shifting.
William Jefferson Clinton you'll never truly get rid of rev hang unless you get an older car with a cable operated throttle body however the stage 1 ots map does a fairly good job. The power band is smoothed out as well and the car keeps pushing passed 5000 rpm unlike the stock map where it dies off. Also you lose that bit of a kick right when the turbo spools when you go stage 1
I have a 2017 STI and I was confused about all this too. I wanted to run a Perrin Intake, with a Tomei cat back Exhaust and a Cobb accessport, but I didn't know what map to download or if this would run correctly. Please help me out, thank you!
As long as the Intake, and exhaust have all the same dimensions/pieces as Cobb's you should be good with the Stage 1 Tune. Running a Catback isn't "supposed" to need a tune, but anything that may affect the cars performance, its a good idea to get it tuned. That being said, Cobb doesn't have an OTS tune for just a catback, so for now, run the stage 1 tune (as long as the Perrin Intake is similar to Cobbs intake) and you should be good to go. But look into either going full turboback and going Stage 2, or go to a pro tuner and get a custom map built.
WRX Fan if you are using their intake, then go with the Stage 1 + Big SF, but as Cobb says, if the intake you go with isn't compatible, then you will have to get a custom map built.
Have you or anyone in here ran the Cobb ots stage 1 without the intake? I'm buying one next week and want some thoughts before. I know protune is recommended but I'm stacking up all the parts and doing it at once. Hmu. Thanks
Cesar Arreola I know Cobb provides a Stage 1 tune that does not have the Big SF intake built into it. It's just the bare bones tune that will change how your car drives but just uses the info from the stock intake. I would assume it's very similar to the Stage 1 + Big SF tune.
I bought a Mishimoto intake and was planning to run it with the regular ots stage 1 tune. However, I stumbled upon this post from COBB which seems like a better option. What do you guys think? Would I be better off with this tune instead? Thanks in advance! cobbtuning.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204584414-USDM-ADM-2015-2016-17-WRX-Aftermarket-Intake-Maps-Mishimoto-ETS-
Yeah we would recommend going with one of these maps instead, the map will be more closely fitted to what you need with the different intake. Just make sure you download the right map!
Great sense of humor but for anybody who doesn't want a preschool explanation of what an engine map is.. its essentially a set of parameters that your engine is designed to operate within based off the data received from sensors placed throughout the car such as your MAF sensor, MAP sensor, oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor, and so on..you can change those parameters by remapping your engines ecu to to achieve different performance goals and to accommodate for any modifications made to the engine
You buy a 30000$ + car and decide to put some nice mods on there but cheap out and run an OTS tune as your main tune, no sympathy from me if your shit blows up.
CrazyForCooCooPuffs Yup! Car has run incredible for the past 3 months and 5000 miles on this tune, absolutely no issues. It's now scheduled to be pro tuned on the dyno adding the full turbo-back soon. Thanks for the concern though!
As long as you have a protune planned its fine running the OTS, I'm talking more about the people who cheap out and only run OTS. I got a protune scheduled in 2 weeks at a cobb shop =D. Full catless, tgv deletes, egr deletes, intake and boost controller. Make sure you have a grimmspeed boost controller. My tuner said he wont touch my car w/o one. I dont even push my car hard, never go above 4500 rpm. I just hate the oem tune and the OTS tunes so might as well get some mods if im going pro tune right?, gonna get tuned for 16 psi and no more. It scares me that people are running 20 psi, the FA rods are weak.
CrazyForCooCooPuffs yea that's true, and this is the same setup I will be running with the cat less pipe and am going to be getting the deletes as well as the boat controller. Really pumped for it!

The power band is smoothed out as well and the car keeps pushing passed 5000 rpm unlike the stock map where it dies off. Also you lose that bit of a kick right when the turbo spools when you go stage 1
William Jefferson Clinton the accessport gets rid of rev hang
can i get a cobb black forest gateau??
cake haha I didn't expect that haha
if you go Protune instead of OTS maps, will you still need an AP? thanks!
Von Manzano nope but you can still use it later on if you want or to monitor extra gauges on it.
TrackRecord thanks! :)
I've been reading the comments and was wondering if I can run stage 1 ots 91 map with complete stock everything for about 3 years without issues?
Gary Park yep you should be good to go! The basic stage 1 Tune doesn’t require any mods. And then just reflash before you give the car back!
But look into either going full turboback and going Stage 2, or go to a pro tuner and get a custom map built.
now when you say stage 1 tune, do you mean stage 1 big SF intake, or do you mean stage 1, stock intake, stock exhaust? TrackRecord
WRX Fan I mean stage 1+ as in tomei cat back and Perrin intake
WRX Fan if you are using their intake, then go with the Stage 1 + Big SF, but as Cobb says, if the intake you go with isn't compatible, then you will have to get a custom map built.
***** does cobb tuning AP support the AEM intake on a 2015 wrx?
So the down pipe has to be from Cobb if you want stage 2 ots?
seam tesh nope! Cobb will tell you you can run any down pipe with the same dimensions on their stage 2 map as long as it has a single high flow cat.
TrackRecord that cleared it up a bit thanks! I'm hopefully getting a wrx for graduation just 5 more months 🙏
How do you set launch control on the cobb accessport
Austin Gragg and after I do that It should say launch control right?
Austin Gragg v3
Austin Gragg I got it like a month ago... how do I update?
Can you go straight from stock to stage 2?
chris mitchell yep! You don't have to go in any order.
if you overwrite the stock map, what happens if you unmarry it?
It saves the stock map and will reflash it back to the car when you unmarry it.
thank you!
Mmm cake
Have you or anyone in here ran the Cobb ots stage 1 without the intake? I'm buying one next week and want some thoughts before. I know protune is recommended but I'm stacking up all the parts and doing it at once. Hmu. Thanks
Cesar Arreola I know Cobb provides a Stage 1 tune that does not have the Big SF intake built into it. It's just the bare bones tune that will change how your car drives but just uses the info from the stock intake. I would assume it's very similar to the Stage 1 + Big SF tune.
A map is like baking a cake....
Comment: You dont have to use cobb's custom maps. There are other reputable e-tune companies out there.
Do I have to get it or can I just take it to a shop
You don't need it to get a dyno tune, it's just less permanent. It's easier to go back to stock settings (or another tune) when you need to.
how do you not have more subs
vroom vroom motherfuckers
I bought a Mishimoto intake and was planning to run it with the regular ots stage 1 tune. However, I stumbled upon this post from COBB which seems like a better option. What do you guys think? Would I be better off with this tune instead? Thanks in advance!

Yeah we would recommend going with one of these maps instead, the map will be more closely fitted to what you need with the different intake. Just make sure you download the right map!
TrackRecord thank you! I didn't know they existed until a few days ago.
Ngl. Your description of what a map is was dumb asf. But great video. Lol
That was a weird analogy...
Hit the thumbs down when you started talking about cake.
Kevin Schmevin 🎂🎂🎂🎂 😎
Kevin Schmevin Lol seriously..stopped watching as soon as he said it
Davey Jones my apologies guys, next time it will be pie!
Kevin Schmevin same here Brodie
Bloody generic car video music.
