Synthetic ice is an alternative to real ice for people who want to skate at home. This is a great idea for people who want to make an indoor skating surface without having to pay to keep real ice.
Synthetic ice is great for basements and garages. You can also use Synthetic ice in warm climates and build an outdoor hockey rink
In the video I talk about what it feels like to skate on synthetic ice, how to maintain it and the price.

Synthetic ice is so damn expensive.
I know why can't it be cheaper?
I honestly was expecting it to be more expensive than it is. A couple grand for something that is this easy to install and maintain AND will last 10-15 years is fairly cheap. If you put real ice down, the electric bill from the refrigeration needed to keep it frozen year round would be insane.
TheCoolwhipped true
TheCoolwhipped Don’t forget too, he hinted at sharpening your skates after every use. I’m sure that eventually adds up as well. It seems to make sense just to buy a skate sharpening machine to go along with the synthetic ice. That is for people who’d use it every day.
@@TheCoolwhipped i live where it is cold enough to have the rink 9 out of the 12 months for me its not worth it.
3:30 the reason you came here maybe
Largely good reviews, so I will add some critique. First, I am very disappointed that there is no mention anywhere from Hockeyshot that it dulls your skates 10x faster than ice. That significantly increases the cost of use over 10 years, and should be factored in. Additionally it is pretty inconvenient to have to sharpen your skates a couple of times a week, or daily if you're a heavy user. Plus the cost of mileage driving to the pro shop, or the cost of buying your own skate sharpening equpiment, neither of which are being factored into the cost of ownership. "
The product MUST be installed on a grippy sub-floor or mat. It can not be installed directly onto concrete or hardwood, as the whole sheet will slide along the floor with any sudden movement. This may not be an issue with extremely large surfaces, but mine is 30 tiles or 70 sq ft and the whole sheet shifts 6-12 inches with any start or stop. There is no mention of this on the product, which is not only annoying and adds to the cost of installation, but is a safety issue I'm surprised went completely under the radar. Someone is going to get hurt trying to skate and having the whole thing shift underneath them.
Third, the product comes with zero documentation, installation instructions, usage guide, or anything. You can get some info online, and maybe I'm old school that way but there should really be a guide with this product given its peculiarities and requirements.
Well actualy mine is on a concrete slab on my back yard and it hasnt move yet but it is only 12 by 24 feet
@@paradox_rot8660 smooth or textured concrete?
Not to mention the plastics and microplastics that are actually going to landfill or into the ocean
Great points.

If you use a hard surface floor clearner (I use a hoover floormate.. about 100 bucks) with warm water, it really cleans most of the grit, grime, and sand off the surface and will prolong skating time until your baldes go completely dull.
here I am in my garage with my Lamborghini and my synthetic ice...
marpa knowledge.
Aydon Natomagan hahaha few people got that... glad you did :-)
lol i got that
How to 🏒
marpa by looking at your videos I am not really convinced well I dint look at them only the thumbnail
Not to mention it's great for goalies too, just get a net and enough tiles to make a crease and you're good
Do goalie pads slide on it? Thinking about buying
Mom my mom said I can't get it. It is to expensive so I will ask santa
Nice
Hahaha he dosent know yet
@@mysticedge4 know what 🤫
The moment when you realize the goal costs more than the synthetic ice lol
andy Green Lol
As soon as you said 3500 I was out. I'll stick to the homemade ODR
Yeah I think it's more for those in areas where that's not viable
$3500 is cheap compared to what you're getting..
@@keenano8731 what does that even mean?
It means exactly what I said. $3500 for a garage rink of synthetic isn't alot of money.
@@keenano8731 Yeah that's a lot of money for most people, That isn't even big.
Thank you! This was a great review
The polar bears are going to love this
I’ve never ice skated in my life but I’m watching this and really find it fascinating
Don't be too impressed it's really retarded
@@darkhelmet4279 then why are you here?
I haven’t been skating much, but would like to regularly! It’s really fun, you should try it out sometime!
@@darkhelmet4279 Lol
Thank thank you! Super super video and super explanation!!
Hey Jeremy I was about to get synthetic ice because if you search it online it says it is 12 dollars per panel is that right of is it way more
sclogse1
Great camera and shooting. No one has mentioned that when you think the surface is worn out, just turn it over.
Can oil or wax be used as a lubricant for a more sufficient glide?
have you ever heard of the agility blades, the blades for synthetic ice
For people looking to buy these but dont like the part where you need to constanly sharpen skates, i suggest buying and extra pair of blade specifically for the synthetic ice.
I heard the SHARKBLADES from green hockey are the best option. I bought them and it feels almost like skating on real ice. And the best part is that you don't have to sharpen the rollers because they stay sharp.
I have another question, well, 2.
First, can you add lubricant to make even more slick?
Secondly, the kids asked me this, can you paint the lines on it?
Thanks again.

You and pavel barber are like brothers. He is the stick handling god and you are the agility god
have you used the dryland tiles as well that they offer? looking to set up a small space for our kids to use to practice shooting and stick handling not necesarily for skating. do those work well from stickhandling ect.
Planning on installing this outside in Southern California. Even if I keep it covered and sweep before every use, I'm concerned that the dust and dirt it picks up will dull my skates very fast. Any experience or thoughts?
Can you drive on this stuff????
Would love in my garage but not if I can not park in there
My friend got the synthetic ice from hockeyshot at Christmas last year he said it is much too slow to skate on yet great for stock handling and skating. Also he said it dulls his skates way too quickly.
should build slots into the boards for target practice, that way you can take that big "net" out
can these be left outside year round (through winter or do you need to move it inside)
My buddy just got his son some synthetic ice. Paid $2700 for 12 X 20 feet. Awesome quality. My kid was having tons of fun skating on it.
Is the wear on the sheet and the blades much lower for children?
@@GewelReal Probably cause you're gonna have less weight which means less friction.
If outside, can you put water on it for the winter?
How much was your hockey stick and tape??????????
Ironic that I bought a Sparx home skare sharpener with the objective to create an indoor skating surface during the lockdowns. My kids just finished their first season of ice hockey and I used the Sparx several times a week for the entire family of skates (tallied 60 pairs of sharpening for included grinder ring). Now I'm gonna invest in synthetic ice tiles and use the Sparx for my first intended purpose 😊
Does synthetic ice disintegrate quicker in warm weather?
What skates are those and do u have a review on them
What are the issues with putting synthetic ice outside in backyard area under a maple tree ?
Does anyone know.. can you just leave a rink of these tiles setup outside in all elements?
Do you think this would work with roller skates too?
Can i set this up in my driveway and be able to park the cars while not in use?
I was reading about Japans synthetic rinks made of resin. Idk how that would be on the skates. But resin is pretty durable. Idk if this has any resin in it or not.
you're awesome man
If you got this would you also want to have a at home skate sharper? Think of the money ur save with these two things in 10-15 years!
+coke439home I think he halready has one.
If you buy to blades then you skate on there then you put the other pair in and then you can go on the ice right after
Is this made from delrin?
Whats the best synthetic ice for goaliee
I might get this, but only for stick handling
How do goalies move on it? Like for practicing butterfly slides from left to right etc? I'm thinking about getting 8x8 foot area to work on my lateral movements.
I heard the SHARKBLADES from green hockey are the best option. I bought them and it feels almost like skating on real ice. And the best part is that you don't have to sharpen the rollers because they stay sharp. And they also make blades especially for goalies!
You should do a review of agility blades
Have you broke your leg in hockey? I broke mine on December 20th 2014 and I'm 12. And how long did it take for yours to heal? Mine is 6-8 weeks.
when those 6-8 weeks are over, you're going to have to 'learn to walk again', your muscles are going to be weak and you'll have to build up strength again for about 2-4 weeks, sucks big time...
thanks dude
what type of camera are you using?
I Wonder how the stopping is?
1:00 don't mind the bloody knuckles.... you should see the other guys face... =) Brent
awesome review btw.. and sharing! --Brent
Haha I didn't realize that's:')
+Uppercornerhockey what about the face i saw the knuckles tho lol
it is just saying... i just hope Jeremy won!
how did you get money for those and how long did it take
So the skates get dull in 1 hour ???
I wonder if they ever tried using plastic type blades on the skate with this. Or would it be too slick???
Plastic on plastic would preserve the surface longer but the friction from your plastic skate blade would be toast so fast.
“It’s self-lubricating, what that means is that it’s…self-lubricating.” 😂 just messin, great review
Dose it feel like ice
How does it self lubricant?
I'm just starting any tips
Hey Jeremy, would you recommend this to goalies for practicing while a player is taking shots on you?
I see no one answered this question. The answer is no/yes. If you are an experienced goalie with strong legs, then yes you will benefit drastically from this. If your a weak skater or new, then no, the additional resistance will make it very difficult for you to be agile.
Horrible if you actually play on actual ice. You want to practice on the exact same surface that you play on
How much dose it kaust
WHAT TYPE OF BOOTS WERE YOU WEARING?
hey, you said the plastic was self lubricating, can you elaborate a bit more on that? You also mentioned with other synthetic ice brands you need to sweep the shavings more often? i was watching your skates and you seemed to be kicking up quite a bit of shavings when you are making your stops.
It has an additive that doesn't require lubrication, it's already added to the plastic. You still need to sweep it, you don't need to add lubrication as you do with other synthetic ice
have you checked out synthetic ice solutions ice? i have a 24 x 16 from them and i dont need to lubricate or hardly ever sweep it.i think it would be more accurate if you said most, instead of others as a basic generalization of other products on the market.
why not use a mekanikal flor cleaner
Bought a pair of steel wheel skates to avoid the excess sharpening of the regular skates. Use the basement synthetic ice almost daily now. Glides almost like a real skate on ice, and less plastic shavings.
What kind of "steel wheel skates" do you use (link)?
They are from Agility Blades
agilityblades.com/
zack maxx Thx. There is no price info grrr. You bought new skates or just holders? Also, you need to sharpen Agility Blades too. In promo video they said 10 times longer so in reality, I guess, It is probably after 5 hours? Can you confirm this? And what is price for sharpening this steal weals?
Can you estimate how many hours of skating between sharpening? 1, 2, 4, ?
+SCOTT MCKILLOP 1 maybe more if it's really clean. The more dust or grit on the surface the more it will dull your skates
+Michael Byrne Sharpening your skates that often will make you also have to buy replacement blades sooner.
+Austin Williams , U can buy a Magic Stick, there are perfekt for training on synthetic Ice. We do the same at our starhockey academy ;)
20-30 minutes
The stick handling part made me so dizzy oh my god
How Many tiles
You should use agility blades
I've got a question, when I'm practicing in my driveway on a shooting pad, I go bar down every time easily, but when I go on the ice, it's a lot harder to
Why does this happen?
+Reilly Brennan ice is a lot less resistant than a shooting pad, as well as ice being more difficult to get a "hold" on the puck due to the blade of your stick slipping across the ice, therefore disabling you to flex the stick properly.
@@reillybrennan6548 when you perform the shooting motion for a high shot, the blade pushes against the puck and then the puck rides up on the blade so you can get under it. When the puck is on a grippier surface, when the blade pushes against the puck it does not move forward as quickly, so it rides up your blade more easily. On a more slippery surface, when your blade pushes against the puck it slides forward more quickly, so it does not ride up your blade as much. You may notice a different as well when shooting on fresh ice vs snowy ice at the end of a game. You can overcome this by increasing shot quickness and power, which increases the speed difference between your blade and the puck.
The roomba I robot is new Zamboni for synthetic ice
I have a couple of commercial buildings with lots of open concrete. I have thought about getting something in a 40x60 but it would not be permanent. Is it practical to lay out just for the weekends and pick up on Sunday night?
+Boxhawk No it's not practical. It took me a good two hours to set up my 12x24 foot area. You have to bang pretty hard with a rubber mallet to get the joints to go together, so I was a sweaty mess by the time I finished. Not something I'm looking forward to doing again any time soon

I have one in my house
what do you do for a living
Look at his bio
Is a 12x16 a good size for me to practice being a goalie? Also do I need boards? And lastly, does the synthetic ice ruin goalie pads? Thanks.
Jake DeBella Why would it ruin the Pads?
I was thinking that cause I'm a goalid
Roller dly
slick hands
So basically when you buy synthetic ice get an at home blade sharpener and maybe a second pair of skates just for it with changeable blades
To add on to what I said it wasn't hockey shot brand I believe
Cool it’s always winter with synthetic ice
What is the most cost effective way to sharpen your skates considering you said you have to sharpen your skates after each time. Sorry, noob here.
Oh and great job on the video, was looking for a video like this. It's the kind of information you don't get from promo videos.
Christopher Bishop The most cost effective would be to buy a skate sharpening machine and then do them yourself.
The Hockey Movement Theres a company named sidelines, I think, they sell something called the magic stick. Its handheld, and really simple to use. I think you should buy it and do a review of it. Its like, 20 dollars. sales.sidelines.ca/product/00/BMAST/SIDELINES-MAGIC-STICK thats the link.
+Dan Ho Those things are terrible for skates if you use them more then 2 or 3 times a year. The way that skates are sharpened the blades are made to look like an upside down "U" shape. That gives you the edge. I you use one of those stick sharpeners it shapes your blade like a right side up "V" Making it much more difficult to sharpen your blades the proper way in the future.
a very good idea, but it is expensive in Russia (((
Howv many tilrls are in one box
Irwin Lati he said in the beginning
Not a hockey player but couldn't one just use inline roller skates to practice? Why use synthetic ice?
Also: with thermoelectric cooler units as cheap as they are it wouldn't be very difficult to build a real ice rink. TEC units freeze water pretty quickly.
think someone would be better off just using a pair of crappy skates solely for the synthetic rink?
It would be awesome to train with you
5:11 I hate that drill! It is so hard!
i have this in my basement i love it
hey Jeremy if you did the worst video in the I would still like it and also subscribed
I have 2 sets of blades so would I be able to go on longer because all I have to do is pop the trigger and the blades come out then I put the new ones in.
How do I make one in Florida
It won't melt so just order
It
how mulch is it
Dylan Ramsay 3500
because you have to sharpen your skates every time your skate blade will get to thin and you will have to replace it.
Can you do a review on the Super Shooter 2 please?
Oh, alright... thanks :D

Do you know if figure skaters can use this type of ice with figure skates?
Obviously yes....

Big news for those that skate on synthetic ice. The Mel's Rink Foundation has developed the V GAP Blade. A new blade for skating on synthetic ice.
There Is No Comparison Between Traditional Full Length Skate Blades And The V GAP Blade, when Skating On ANY Synthetic Ice Surface.
The V GAP Blade Is 100% BETTER! Better Glide. Better Turning. Better Control. Better Experience. Actually Feels Like Skating On Ice.
The V GAP Blade is a game changer for the synthetic ice industry. You can see the blade in action, read more about how the blade works, on the website.
