So yeah, he is qualified to compete, but he also had to shoot against Korea in his first match.
He did not qualify in international competitions, each Olympic cycle there are some spots that are given to countries that do not have the means to allow people to train and compete, within archery these spots are given to individuals from low income countries, the athletes are given the opportunity to train and practice at the world archery excellence centre for multiple years with the coach who is based there. I know this as I have trained with them previously
true but also false. when you come from a very poor country and less populated country you have better chances of becoming an olympic athlete in a event that costs money to do. then in bigger richer ones. take archery. making the olympic team is easier for him because a lot less people would have archery as a hobby/sport or funds to have it as a hobby/sport. the pool of people is a lot less. take usa as an example. third largest population. first world nation. people do every thing as a hobby or main sport. the pool of potential athletes is huge. hell even i have a bow and go to a range a few times a year for fun. a richer and bigger population countries will just have a bigger pool of people that do whatever hobby or sport it is. accessibility is huge. you probably arent going to have large pools of swimming athletes when you are located in a desert nowhere near a body of water. so again the lesser the number of potential athletes means greater chance at becoming one.
Everyone is hung up on getting a medal, but you are there to represent your country, you become a star in your country, you are on a world stage, where billions of people can watch you. That’s a privilege that your hardwork and dedication has given you, so enjoy it and be grateful as this man is.

Qualifying for Olympic level archery is amazing. My teacher at camp when I was young was the New York State champion. I could shoot pretty well at 50 yards. He shot twice as far, 100 meters. He stood on the other end of the parking lot and shot from the edge of the lot, over the cars, under the sun shield, and into the bulls eye. I couldn't even hit the target at that distance, much less get a qualifying score to be allowed to attend the Olympics. You can't go just by being the best in your country. Everyone in the field had to qualify for the Olympics in international competition over the last year. Also take into account the target distance is 70 meters, and it looks like he scored 8-9-10 in the first round, which is pretty damn good.
Congratulations brother, you've accomplished far more than the majority of people on the planet by being part of the Olympics.
true but also false. when you come from a very poor country and less populated country you have better chances of becoming an olympic athlete in a event that costs money to do. then in bigger richer ones. take archery. making the olympic team is easier for him because a lot less people would have archery as a hobby/sport or funds to have it as a hobby/sport. the pool of people is a lot less. take usa as an example. third largest population. first world nation. people do every thing as a hobby or main sport. the pool of potential athletes is huge. hell even i have a bow and go to a range a few times a year for fun. a richer and bigger population countries will just have a bigger pool of people that do whatever hobby or sport it is. accessibility is huge. you probably arent going to have large pools of swimming athletes when you are located in a desert nowhere near a body of water. so again the lesser the number of potential athletes means greater chance at becoming one.

The spirit of competition lives through this man.
BRAVO!

How many times can you say you've competed in the Olympics?
@@mikembleywell MIKE I think you’re missing the point lol
Other countries have HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people who compete each year to see if they go to the Olympics so The likelihood is dramatically less.
Chad is poor, Chad has no programs, Chad has no world presence. Other than being a charity case for donations from more wealthy countries.
If I put together a bobsledding team in Chad… we’d go to the Olympics . Even if we’re terrible… like this guy…. Why? because we’d be the only bobsledding team in the country just like he is one of like a few dozen people in Chad with a compound bow.

I love seeing these. Another one I remember was an Equatoguinean swimmer who basically couldn’t swim, yet competed, and actually won a swimming race. There’s also the Jamaican bobsled team, which I remember watching the movie several times in school lol
It’s amazing to see people compete at an event as massive and serious as the olympics when they otherwise “aren’t supposed to”. While they might not be the best of the best in terms of skill, they’re the top athletes in terms of determination.
Even if you don’t do well in the Olympics you’re still considered an Olympian for going and that’s something most people can’t say about themselves

Congratulations, well done.
He definitely represented his country, that is for sure.
Much love, from Ireland! You ALSO need to get a good enough score.
Not sure if swimming and archery are different in requirements - but search the black swimmer. Where they had to have a lifeguard for his 100m freestyle
@@mlguy8376 Every sport has their own requirements and at times they have been too relaxed in certain sports. Eddie the Eagle got a feature film made out of the fact that the dude had no business going off an Olympic ski jump hill.
Well this guy made it to the Olympics qualified just by volunteering for the event😅
Olympic archery is 70 meters which is doable what is incredible is the CONSISTENCY. When I did archery I could consistently HIT the target at 70m but doing a consistent 30 plus rounds only in the yellow/first red is pure insanity.
@@matteoceleste4406 70? I thought it was 100. I think at my prime I could have trained for 70 meters. I was decent at 50 yards. I would never have made the Olympics or even a state championship like my teacher, but with practice I could have hit the target. At 100, I couldn't reach it with my moderate 35 pound bow. I would have needed to train with a heavier one.
